Guest Reviews
- Matthew (8/5): Very good - A great sized room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom as well as heating which was essential for a winter stay. There was even a shared kitchen with a microwave and fridge. The location was great, being on a road with plenty of shops and great public transport, with the train station only a few minutes walk away and the trams making easy access to the city. The room was excellent value for money and I will definitely stay here again next time I come to Melbourne The kitchen didn't have an oven or stovetop. The lounge chair in the bedroom was old and the pillows on the bed were hard
- Udaya (8/5): Very good - Location is close to metro station and has tram right outside the facility, restaurants near by. The building is very old, so are the rooms. There are no sufficient sockets in the room, there was one socket literally in the skirting for the floor, so you have to put anything that you charge on the floor. The bathroom was about 2feet higher than the room with only one step and its very dangerous to get down and very hard to go up or down for older people and people with knee and back issues.
- Lilith (9/5): Superb -
- Brian (8/5): Perfect place to stay. - For out side it look ok, but it is very clean and very comfortable at the same time. It was everything well organised for what I needed.
It was everything clean this it was very important for me.
- Geoff (7/5): Good - Heater wasn't great
- Lilith (8/5): Very good -
- Mohanan (8/5): Very good -
- Wajahat (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Zachary (10/5): Exceptional - - Very good value for money. Room was clean and amenities were sufficient for a two night stay
- Location is a bit far out from the city but close to multiple public transport options, and many restaurants and supermarkets nearby The entrance is through a rear lane way which can be troublesome for some people, though not an issue for me. The area is well lit at night. Property is only accessible by stairs (not an issue for me)
- Mohanan (8/5): Very good -
- Emanuel (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place, comfortable and good price.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Vern (8/5): Very good -
- Noel (9/5): Superb - Ease of access to nearby locations, seamless checki-n, and checkout process and friendly staff. I think I should have opened the window, there is an odour which I think is from the bathroom exhaust and felt a bit air congested as I slept through the night. But for the price, the place was just perfect.
- Tamzin (9/5): Great value and functional, we would stay again. - Great location, close to trams and trains. Functional set up, tired and dated but clean and everything worked well, overall we were very happy with our stay. It was really difficult to get in touch with the hosts, the key safe was in need of a service, was difficult to lock and at one point we couldn't get back in and needed to massage the dial in order for it to connect.
- Allan (7/5): The location was very convenient - The location was very convenient — just a short walk to the train station, and the tram stop was right outside our room. Coles supermarket and plenty of food and beverage options were also nearby, which made everything super accessible. The Wi-Fi also had a very strong signal, which was a big plus. What I didn’t like was having to carry our heavy luggage up the stairs to our room. It would have been more convenient if there were assistance available. Also, the step into the bathroom is quite high and could be dangerous if you're not careful.
- Allan (8/5): The stay was generally pleasant, but there were a couple of inconveniences. - The location was very convenient — just a short walk to the train station, and the tram stop was right outside our room. - Raymond (6/5): A little bit noisy with the tram driving pass even after midnight -
- Zhisheng (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoff (7/5): Good - Budget room.
With own bathroom.
All I needed and location perfect
- Leona (6/5): Good location, free parking, kitchen needs updating! - Good location, free parking, depending on the day, quite cheap (I had 2 Separate stays at different prices). Very communicative owner and easy self checkin. I had an issue with my room and it was dealt with efficiently. Own bathroom. The kitchen facilities are really lacking. Needs to be updated. No cooker to speak of just a plug in
Induction cook top.
- Meike (9/5): Great value for money - everything what you need, close to supermarket and tram station The bed was with feathers
- Leona (5/5): its ok, clean enough but dont expect to be able to cook for yourself. also noisy with trams. - location was fine. room was big and had own bathroom barely any cooking facilities which I think is a basic requirement of a hostel.
- Sarah (7/5): Good - Clear check in instructions, large room Slsteps up to entrance and room. Lot of noise from the trams.
- Grant (7/5): Good -
- Tony (7/5): Good -
- Paton (2/5): Very poor - I did not end up not staying at this accommodation as I didn't feel safe.
- Cecilia (3/5): Book here only if you are desperate for a cheap and horrible place - It's handy for going to the city (still a big trip but the tram is just around the corner).
It's cheap.
Good water pressure in the bathroom. The place doesn't look like the pictures at all.
The carpets are old and stained.
They haven't cleaned under the beds for long time (extremely dirty).
Old and uncomfortable mattress.
The wall paint is cracking.
There is not reception, they just leave you the keys. It's more than a bad Airbnb than a backpacker place.
The place at the kitchen, when you supposed to put your goods, has the door broken.
Check in it's at 3 pm.
- Federico (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (5/5): it was ok - there was no breakfast , but the room was ok there was no kettle/cup/utensils/tv, the steps up to the shower /toilet are dangerous having no hand rails or anything to hold onto to climb up or get down
- Luise (8/5): nice, comfortable and private accommodation - I quite liked having my own room with a bathroom attached! The room was comfortable and great size and had all the amenities I needed, as well as a kitchen with all appliances down the hall. There is also a big supermarket right next to the property which was very useful as well. The only thing that might be hard for short-time travellers is the distance to the city as it does take about 30 minutes to get into the center but there is a metro and tram close by which makes it easy to travel around.
- Mark (10/5): Great overnighter - Great location. No noise. Comfortable. Hard bed but still slept like a baby. Nothing....
- Leona (8/5): Very good -
- Faye (8/5): Excellent time - The vibe A bigger bin
- Hayden (9/5): Amazing but cheap place - The room was amazing perfect for what i needed, bed was comfy and a spacious shower Bed was a little bit noisy when moving around and light from the street lights shined in on your pillow but still amazing
- Georgia (5/5): You get what you pay for - Cheap accommodation compared to others in Melbourne. Clean bedroom/ en suite. Great if you plan to be out most of the day and just need a place to sleep. Our fault but when we read backpackers we thought it was a hostel so be aware it is not. Very far out of the centre, takes 45mins average to get to most tourist places by tram. Kitchen is not clean, under the sink especially. Complicated plug in hob making it almost impossible to cook a meal. Strange entrance down the back of a shopping centre and small alleyway to get in, I’m travelling in a couple and was 100% ok but not sure how I’d feel as a female solo traveler.
- Francesco (5/5): Passable -
- Ruby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wajahat (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (8/5): Very cosy, very clean and surprisingly spacious room! Perfect quiet location but close to the cbd! - We were very happy with how spacious, clean and cozy the room is!! We like the location away from the busy CBD but also not too far, the train station and tram stops are all walking distance:)
We liked the little fridge, our own private bathroom, the bath towels and soap included and also the very comfortable bed!! When we had an issue on how to check in, we called the property and were answered straightaway and given instructions which we absolutely appreciate!!
Thank you so much, we had such a beautiful stay 🤗 Can’t think of one, perhaps maybe a little bit of renovation could help! Like the tap in the kitchen needs to be attached properly.
- Sergio (10/5): Lovely hotel - The property is very clean, comfortable bed, full bathroom.
Lovely view to a fig tree from the window.
Easy check in and check out, the owner/manage have everything very well organized.
Certainly i will back.
Thanks
- Francesco (4/5): Disappointing -
- 22 (7/5): Good - The room was comfortable and met the price. The bathroom was really clean and good as well. Bed was squeaky, and there were a lot of rubbish swept under the bed. Cleanliness wise, I would say a 6/10. I think they could have done better.
- Ainraf (9/5): A good one - Its a good place to stay and very spacious The location a bit far from city but just alright
- Kayla (7/5): Good -
- Alistair (7/5): Good -
- Amy (10/5): Exceeds expectations - Very clean and comfortable, checking in was easy and not requiring face to face, wifi was included for free and plenty of restaurants were just next door
Highly recommend
- Nick (7/5): Good -
- Wojciech (6/5): Pleasant - The location of the apartment is very convenient, close to the train station, shops, and restaurants. property requires some refreshing and better cleanliness. Clumps of dust found in the room and bathroom do not make the stay appealing.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Geoff (7/5): Good -
- Liam (6/5): Excursion in Malvern in November 24 - Room 2, I had:
Very basic but expected that as I have been here once over a year ago. Clean and tidy. No tv, but I don't watch tv anyway 😯. Bed was ok, but needed more pillows as they were very small soft like.
Room has window to outside, from a useless corner which has your cloak hanger stationed there. Good to keep your clothes exposed to the outside air, and consequently also provide for the room⛹️
Shower is great. Bathroom is clean and tidy.
So near to Malvern Central shopping, just right behind the building 🦸
Quite, no disturbance at all from other residents
Very basic kitchen set up but still adequate if you wanted to do some cooking of course. Shared fridge/freezer. It has a cooking stove and a small dining table. Pillows far too soft and should have two for each person
- Jessica (5/5): Had all the key necessities, and it was good value. - The location was convenient to the public tram and trains. It was also close to some great breakfast and dinner restaurants.
All the basics were there. One of the best value private rooms in a hostel.
It was great to have asses to a fridge, microwave, and jug. As well as heat pump in the room. It was really hard to find the key.
Online only interactions. Would have been really welcoming to have someone there for an hour a check in and out to help direct. Or maybe some sinage on the entry door to reassure that you have arrived at the correct location. As it is down an alleyway and kinda a second Ally way off that.
The carpet wasn't the cleanest. Everything else was clean.
The bed was on the hard side, but it is expected to make some compromise at the price.
- Jane (8/5): Affordable accommodation - Clean and tidy and affordable If I had to be picky, bed was a bit hard, air con wasn't very cold and the fan in the bathroom was very dirty, so much so the fan wasn't really working properly.
- Conor (9/5): Would book here again - Great value for money
- Ellie (6/5): Pleasant - Good communication from host Very loud
- Barton (7/5): Good -
- Guy (9/5): Great location nice size room n t door to a shopp centre - Breakfast was not included but that didn’t worry me great location There was no TV but I managed without it
- Kate (1/5): Not great..... - Nothing. Dodge alley way to enter the place and bad lighting to get in. Horrible stairs to lug my luggage up to the front door. Then the place was old and run down, nothing what I expected. Even old shoe were left in the room from someone before me.I felt unsafe as I was a woman travelling alone so I left after 20mins being there. Tried to contact staff to explain why I left and a refund but no contact from them.
- Hana (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location near the train. Clean room, excellent agreement with the accommodation, comfortable check in and check out. thank you very much for a pleasant stay with you.
- Kylie (8/5): Very good -
- Stewart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoff (7/5): Good -
- Angelina (8/5): Very good -
- Anya (7/5): Was a great place to stay whilst on a budget - Ideal location, easy check in and check out and room was very spacious The bed was extremely squeaky, I had messaged owner and had no response or any offer to help.
Extractor fan in bathroom was very loud
- Robert (8/5): Great location, excellent room, like the way you collect your key. - Didn’t have breakfast. Had an early appointment at Cabrini . Premises only an 8 minute walk to hospital. Great location. Would be nice to have a cup of tea or coffee. With a kettle and a fridge in the room this would be possible
- Okawa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gibson (8/5): Very good -
- Alondra (9/5): Really Good - The guest Nick was super attentive to our needs, the bed was very comfortable and the room was very spacious for 2 people.
- Callum (4/5): Disappointing - Great location close to Malvern shopping centre and Malvern train station. Plenty of restaurants along Glenferrie Rd to explore as well making it a great base to explore from. Went to use the kitchen and noticed mice droppings under the sink and where the hobs are stored. The overall cleanliness isn't great and I don't think the main hallways were cleaned once during the week we were there.
- Lucas (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (8/5): Very good - Big room , nice location and clean. Nice and warm duvet The room was very cold. The heating didn't work as I expected
- Elizabeth (8/5): Overall a comfortable stay within an excellent budget. Would definitely recommend. - The location was excellent for our needs. It was clean, presentable and comfortable. A small fridge was provided which was excellent. The split system air-conditioning did not seem to work on warm. It expelled air but cool air. The key safe was very hard to open to retrieve the key. There was no direct phone number or contact with admin.
- Dhanush (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lan (7/5): Good value for money. Good location. Decent accommodation. - It's our second stay at Malvern backpacker in our trip, but in a different room. The double room is clean and has a more modern look.
The location is great location, as it's quite near to city centre, and yet quiet and easy to get around. Lots of amenities nearby. It'd be better to fix the door entrance lock, which was tricky to unlock, although it was our second time here, so we were able to get in easier.
- Muhammad (8/5): Very good - I like the location. Am nothing everything was good.
- Eugènia (6/5): Not bad - Price and parking. Room and bathroom are comfortable Building is old
- Hugo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing staff and location! Very clean. I'll choose it again! Nothing
- Mark (10/5): The shower was absolutely brilliant room was clean tidy - It was quite comfortable very good location near shopping complex close to public transport Not that it mattered but not having a kettle but they have a really good kitchen area And no TV in the room but having said that didn’t need it didn’t miss it
- Wilson (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lan (7/5): Value for money. Clean. Comfortable. - Great location, as it's quite near to city centre, yet quiet and easy to get around. Lots of amenities nearby. The neighborhood is quiet, and the noise from trams passing by occasionally actually didn't bother me at all.
The accommodation is really clean, although its interior looks a bit old, and that makes the place looks a bit less clean.
The owner also helped send out clear instructions for getting to the place, and place to park, which was very helpful It'd be better to fix the door entrance lock, which was tricky to unlock. We arrived late at night, and had to contact the owner to confirm that we got the right keys.
- Fedor (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - Very convenient location and not expensive. Stains on the floor and a dirty door in the toilet. It's very dark in the room.
- Robert (8/5): Affordable, close to Cabrini, clean comfortable room and shower. Will stay again - Didn’t have breakfast but I checked the amenities out and they looked great. I thought the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and spacious
- King (9/5): Value for money. -
- Barton (7/5): Good - Locality was great. Price was also great. Parking was handy. Staff were helpful, and check-in instructions are easy to follow. The WiFi was pretty useless, but I didn't spend much time in the room anyway.
- Dominic (9/5): Superb -
- Elisabeth (9/5): Close to the train station, also close to the shopping centre, The bed was very comfortable. - Clean and comfortable. Nothing
- Ryan (9/5): Superb - Good value stay, bathroom was good. -
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good - Quiet, just for rest.
Warm en confortable Don't have an equipped kitchen. We had to ask for a liquid dishwasher, paper toilet, etc.
- Kangfan (7/5): Good -
- Garry (9/5): Superb - Location, quiet, comfortable Room 6 the step up and down to the bathroom was a stretch may be a bit dangerous
- Katrin-anna (9/5): Superb - Very easy to communicate with staff. Very easy access to local shops, restaurants etc. Train and tram access short walking distance. The mattress was much harder than we are used to, but it was comfortable enough
- Yan (9/5): Superb - perfect place Old sofa
- Köhler (6/5): Pleasant - It is in a convenient place next to a small shopping center and shopping street. There a loads of nice cafes around. Also the room was bigger than we exected. It wasn't super clean and we had to wait for the response of the owner to finally get into the property as he forgot to send it to us before. Especially on a holiday where you don't have too much time it is pretty annoying....
- Ritika (6/5): Pleasant -
- Henry (9/5): Superb -
- Josephine (7/5): Good - Very good communication with the personnel.
The room was perfect if you only need a nice place to sleep. The connection to the city center was good as well.
- Gerda (5/5): Only for the worst case scenario - Location. Good WiFi. Hot water. Towels are given. Kitchen is tiny, no plates or equipment, dirty, curtains falling apart.
Room had a squeaky bed. To the point where it was hard to sleep with another person in it.
Sketchy entrance.
Towels were smelly.
