- Arias Urones (1/5): Not what you expect at all - its good because it's very close to the beach. They take a very long time on the breakfast (50 minutes for a plate with some eggs and toast). It says there is Wi-Fi and most of the time it doesn't work at all or there is one line and you can't even work on your computer. The bathroom and the rooms are like shown. Our air conditioning stopped working and after we complained about it, and they couldn't change our room or fix our air conditioning, they didn't give us any discount or give us a refund for that night.
- Tatiana (10/5): -
- Carlos (10/5): - El buen trato del personal. Nada que decir. Todo estuvo increíble.
- Chris (2/5): Terrible stay no sleep at all - Owner was friendly Only a few rooms were booked and I talked with them and no one at all got any sleep because there steel door pounded in the wind all night long!!!!!!! Is sounds like someone was hitting a steel door with a sledge hammer non stop! Also strange shower and no hot water at all! The room was supposed to have 2 beds and it did not. Also was supposed to have a fridge, no fridge either! And then to top it off we had to wait for ever to have cars moved so we could get our car out and leave!!!! They could pay me and I would not stay there again!!

-Clean The lady who helped us check in was not friendly at all. It would be nice if she greeted guests first before starting the check-in process. I guess greeting people isn’t easy for her, because the first thing she did was ask for our passports with an annoyed face. It made me wonder if I should apologize for paying for a room and staying at their place. Luckily, the other staff were much nicer.
The toilet seat is broken. I suggest either fixing it or removing it completely.
- Diana (7/5): Alles in allem gut!

- Wanda (10/5): I liked it. - Location Nothing really
- Grieve (7/5): Good - Ac large room and friendly staff It’s nothing fancy and the doors are really creaky!
It’s a port town so expect some bustle
- Sam (8/5): convenient and comfortable stay for 1 night - big and bright room.
friendly staff.
shower wasn't the best but usable.
- Eti (8/5): Very good - Worth the pricing very minimalistic It’s a place just to sleep nothing more then that the rooms have a bad shelves and ac
Bathrooms and showers were shared
- Anonymous (8/5): Good value for money, clean, great location, coffee incl. - Grat location, room in the inner yard, A/C, private bathroom, clean, coffee included, restaurant in the front of the building, parking in the yard. Friendly staff. Walking distance to anywhere. A bit noisy A/C split units. Very dirty beach (unfortunately).
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional - The place was as it is in the photos super clean and the owner is very nice person tried to help us with the parking. You can pay only cash . The place to park is tricky as all streets in Cr but managable
- Alanna (1/5): Expensive and dirty. - Our room was very wet and moldy. We did not feel clean in the room, and it was very smelly of mold. We were worried for our lungs.
- Milos (5/5): Passable - Rooms are clean and comfy, but the access via dirty garage with iron gate is strange.
Restaurant and the stuff is welcoming and nice. The rooms, however, are located in another building. Puntarenas is not interesting and the beaches are full of trash.
The whole location is only a transit point to me. Not worth a separate visit.
- Stephanie (4/5): Will never know how it was to stay here, water main burst. - It was not near any main roads and building itself was all concrete, so it was very quiet. Walking at night didn't feel safe, roads were very quiet and far from main district.
Many homeless people asking for money everywhere. The water main blew and we could stay at the propert. Staff recommended another hotel by the same company however, it was more expensive & located far from the main district.(
- Bogumila (9/5): Superb - The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and bright, and the bathroom was nice and clean.there also was available parking for us. The room was big and almost empty, with only one little night table, and one big chair, and the bed standing in the middle, with a big mirror in the corner.
My advice would be adding hangers, or some furniture ,where you can put your clothes ,and at least another chair.
Very bright light over the head, nothing around the bed, not comfortable.
- Rg (1/5): Loud Hospital - Sorry to say nothing much! Very overpriced for just 2 beds in an austere empty room with no private toilet. It was like a hospital! & No common space.
The curtains were very thin & the bright hallway light shined right through them. Noise traveled with a terrible loud echo, so we got zero sleep & left the next day.
- Paige (10/5): Lovely and peaceful. Safe & homey - The owners were the nicest I have ever met while travelling. So welcoming and helpful. We locked ourselves out of our room and they helped us- and we made dinner with them. 10/10 would stay again Loved everything
- Gordon (6/5): Value for money good, safe, spartan. - Location, relative cleanliness, safety. Air conditioner leaking in the room, on the floor. No place to hang clothes as they r drying.
- Peter (7/5): Good - Friendly staff, clean, close to busstation. Restaurant linked to the accommodation was good Room was big but empty
- Anthony (9/5): Superb -
- Emilie (3/5): Poor - Breakfast was good, the lady at the restaurant reception nice. This hostel looks like a garage. There is a car parked inside the first floor. The showers were broken, i was the only guest in the hostel, creepy. No real window in the room.
- Cortés (10/5): Exceptional - Seems new so everything looks clean and beautiful. The kitchen has many implements, super complete.
- Candice (8/5): Very good - The staff was very nice, the location too is perfect.
- Callum (5/5): Passable - Just buy some doormats especially for when it rains
- Mc (9/5): Good price, comfortable n clean beds. - Good deal, good location, very comfortable bed and pillows; clean room with AC. Hallways lights were left on during all night (window's room to the hallway with no blackout curtains)
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aisling (8/5): Perfect pit stop in Puntarenas - The staff was super duper kind and friendly. They parked our car inside the restaurant as there were a lot of cars for secure parking. They filled out bottles of water up and put in lots of ice the next morning when we were leaving. They were very warm and communicative. The beds could have been a little comfier. Otherwise pretty good!
- Tomas (7/5): Good - The staff was very helpful and kind, let us do a last minute booking because of weather.
Good bed, that's all we needed anyway. The room is a bit too economy (hollow), not even a trash can.
- Phil (6/5): All fine, thank you. The comments made above refer to things that werent ideal. - Friendly helpful staff. Big room to myself. Secure. Good location. Maintenance upkeep not 100%.
WIFI turned off at ngt?.
V noisy neighbors/ builders yard??
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francisco (1/5): Bad -
- Cascante (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (9/5): Superb - It was very comfortable and clean.
- Terri (7/5): Good - Very simple accommodations but a great location and the secure parking is a plus.
The staff was very helpful.
The beds were fine and AC was a BIG plus in the hot humid weather.
Having the restaurant right there is a great advantage. Pretty cramped bathroom and no hot water (but the water temp is not at all cold).
Overall just fine for a couple of nights.
- Matics (9/5): Superb -
- Roberto (9/5): Surprisingly positive! - The property has all the essentials of a hotel without the price of a hotel. The place is within walking distance from the beach. We booked a tour within the property to go to Isla Tortuga, which was very good value for the price. The staff from Puntarenas Bed & Coffee are very customer oriented, helpful and friendly! N/A
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Elisa (6/5): Pleasant - The room was big and the shared bathroom pretty clean
- Ines (10/5): This place is excellent if you want convenience and affordability. The staff is the best asset. Koka was an amazong host - Great location and safe parking
- Jessica (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - It’s clean, staff is friendly, good for one or two nights. Puntarenas is a terrible place to stay in general.
- Vanessa (10/5): Clean, comfortable, and affordable rooms and kind staff. Stay there! - Excellent location, friendly staff, fast check-in, clean rooms with care. Extras like comfortable pillows, and quiet AC for the best price around. Eat at the restaurant too the food is great and the service is excellent. Everything was excellent.
- Wyrough (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andres (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margareth (7/5): good for a very brief night over close to the ferry - good location , very clean we didn’t have the address, and get information about the reception not being in the hostel a couple of hours before arriving . unfortunately we had no wifi so close to arrive and really struggled to find the place . also, parking is a bit complicated as we need to be careful no one parks behind us . finally , the lovely lady who shown the room ( from the reception located in a restaurant hundreds meters away ) asked for tips just to show us where was our room… I thought it à was not really appropriated regarding the struggle it is to find the place
- Dorota (7/5): It’s ok for a one night stay when you are just passing by through the city. - Location was pretty much by the seaside, although the room itself is located more in a garage than a building. There was not a single outside window, only a one with a view on a corridor (inside the building) which was pretty loud every time someone was passing by. No hot water in the bathroom.
- María (5/5): Passable -
- Roberta (1/5): I can only thank the good Lord that we had booked this place just for one night! - cheap The entrance is through a garage door after which you find yourself through a driveway full of cockroaches with the rooms accommodated in what is similar to individual storage units. The entire place gave us the feeling of being in a prison, however, funnily enough, the room door did not lock! The bathroom is not closed off from floor to ceiling, so basically we could hear each other attending to our daily needs.
- Leszek (9/5): very good price - Too dim light in the room, only 1 small window
- Sander (7/5): Good -
- Laetitia (8/5): Very good - "Bed & coffee" but the breakfast (or coffee) is not included
The day, we can't use our car with them system
The night, isn't quite
- Alessia (1/5): To avoid - Close to the beach. Reasonable price. Staff at the reception was not very welcoming. The room is terrible, looks like a cheap motel, not true to the pictures. Towels were dirty and we got them changed, but not even an apology. I would not recommend.
- Lana (6/5): Could have been better - Good location, close to busstation(s) and promenade, clean room with daily service. The rooms are very noisy, no towels provided, no garbage bin in the room and the shared toilets where very dirty. It’s also not suitable for a solo traveller. It is more a motel than a hostel.
- Jennifer (7/5): pleasant, centrical and enjoyable - centrical, good food in the restaurant a bit basic the room but it was enough for our needs
- Michelle (10/5): Would stay here everytime! Excellent staff, comfortable, and safe. Felt very local~ - Loved the happy atmosphere, close proximity to bus station, grocery, beach, and port.
- Tyler (8/5): Very good -
- Christian (4/5): Only recommended if you have a low budget and for one night - Well placed and good price for a sleepover The rooms are a bit on another place, some things are renovated (but only on the outside), very very basic and nothing for more than just to sleep one night and go again
The breakfast stuff was very unfriendly
- Valerie (7/5): Good -
- Guilhermecx (7/5): Good - Very big room and clean. Puntarenas in general...,
- Diego (9/5): Superb -
- Magdalena (10/5): Excellent! -
- Andrea (5/5): the room is a jail cell. no out door windows, just concrete walls, tile floors bed and a shower. not a good glue for the - the location in puntarenas the room felt like a jail cell. breakfast should have been included for the price we paid
- Iqbal (1/5): Bad - Nothing At All !!! 1. The booking advertised name , Coffee by Aldea , was non existent anywhere on or near establishment.
The actual name is Pura Vida restaurant, which was of great inconvenience.
2. On arrival , the confusion and over 45 min delay in resolving the matter , was annoying.
This was exacerbated by difference in advertised price and price they charged me. Some apprx 12 k US dollar difference. I had to pay cash in dollars because the card machine, for some reason did not generate a pin no , and therefore couldn't process transaction.. Never experienced this ever before, anywhere in the world. Added to all , none of the 3 staff spoke not a word of English .
3. The room was in another building away from restaurant/ reception area . The building, like the room , tatty and unattractive..
4. The town Puntarenas , and beach very untidy and dirty. It was my 1st town stay on arrival in CR. Thank God all that followed was very different , all that followed was the real Costa Rica.
- Danuta (9/5): Superb -
- Daniela (1/5): Bad - A/C Bed and one chair, I had to put my clothes on the floor, not even one hock, no night table...nothing...
- Anita (5/5): Passable -
- Olga (5/5): Passable - The location is great, the beach is around the corner. The whole room smelled like chlorine or the cleanser they use.
- Eugenia (7/5): A restful night - - large double room
- enough shelves, storage space, good equipment
- comfortable bed
- friendly, accommodating staff - the entrance door and the only window led to a kind of garage, so no fresh air came into the room. There was only one air conditioner.
- the bathroom turned out a bit small
- Franziska (6/5): Pleasant - It was clean, you have a shower and a bed. Wifi was great. Everything is clean, but it just feels empty. There is a big room with a bed thats it. Doesnt feel roomy or nice. Maybe a carpet or some plants.
