No recomiendo a Carlos “caribe”
- agnieszka (10/5): - Exceptionally friendly and caring owner! Always smiling and making sure we are ok. Nothing is a trouble! Her breakfast and homemade lemonade/juice are absolutely delicious. Perfect location, comfy beds, strong fans to keep you cool in the night. Highly recommend.

- Iwona (10/5): Recommend - The hosts were like close family, very helpful, caring, really wonderful. I felt very welcomed.
The room is clean, everything well organized.
- Erik (8/5): Very good - The reviews are extremely positive. That's why I chose this hotel. The owners are lovely people. But it's all pretty basic. Bright white fluorescent light in the room. On the toilet you have to turn a quarter turn because it's placed too close to the wall. I wish the owners a lot of visitors. but don't give a 10 but an 8
- Sarah (10/5): Best place to stay in town ! - We had a wonderful time there, i even extended my stay. Mathilda was wonderful, welcoming us with fresh limonade everyday, making good breakfast & trying to chat with us with Google translate 😂 ! Location is perfect, in a very quiet street, 5min walk from the center.
- Jay (10/5): This place is not just a hostel. - This place is not just a hostel.
Your Mom is waiting. If you go there, you will realize that I had a Colombian Mom.
I can't forget how she looked at my back endlessly at the doorway when I left.
- Solene (10/5): Inoubliable - Matilde is a pure soul, she will do everything to help you and make you feel at home.
The breakfast is absolutely delicious, the rooms are spacious and clean.
The 1 day tour was amazing, we also did horse riding in the desert which I highly recommend.
Don’t hesitate and come to Arambulo hostel !!!
I will miss Matilde so much. Muchas gracias❤️ Tout était parfait !!!
- Ainsley (10/5): I miss this place already. - It was an absolute pleasure to stay here. Matilde is the most welcoming, friendly and helpful host I have ever come across, an absolute diamond. Nothing is too much for her, she makes an amazing breakfast and ensures you always have everything you need. If you’re thirsty, she gives your lemonade, if you’re hot she will bring you a fan and she is great to converse with, even with my basic Spanish. I cannot speak highly enough of her. The hostel has such a homely feel and has everything needed to enjoy your time in the tatacoa desert. I could not possibly think of anything bad to say about this property or Matilde. Yes it does get hot in the room but with fans and Matildes endless supply of lemonade, this really isn’t an issue.
- Alan (10/5): Great value stay - Matilde is a fantastic host! She was so sweet and cared for our every need. Nice breakfast too, accommodating for vegans. Helped us to plan our activities and transport. The rooms are basic but have everything you need. It got hot at night but we had two fans which kept us cool. Location is close to town, less than 10 minutes to the main square. Right next to a popular brewery. Good WiFi. Overall great value, would recommend. Matilde made the stay what it was. No free use of the kitchen.
- Kelly (10/5): Great stay with friendly and hospitable family - Very friendly hosts that help you organise things. They offered me cold lemonade multiple times, very welcome in the heat, other food was also offered multiple times. Breakfast was freshly prepared each morning to your wish. Mattresses are soft, two ventilators in the bedroom, private bathroom is small but functional . The only thing that could add value that I can think of is mosquitoe nets over the bed. I suffered a lot of bites as it was rainy season (and yes, I used repellent).
- Rosalia (10/5): Exceptional - Senora Matilda takes care of you like she is your mother! It was really such a relaxing stay because of her. She would always greet me with a lemonade and a smile. Her breakfast was delicious and so generous, you will not go hungry when staying there, haha! The room was clean and cozy, I found the bed to be super comfortable and slept really really well. I would love to stay there again.
- Dimitrios (9/5): Best hotel owner i met in my life. - The owner is very hospitable. Its like youre her grandchild and she dotes on you. She is very sweet and helpful with everything. The rooms can become very hot
- Niklas (10/5): The owner and especially Mathilde were super friendly and they helped where they could. The Breakfast was more than I wi -
- Deduleasa (10/5): Great stay - Wonderful stay. The staff were helpful in everything - they helped me arrange the tour for the Tatacoa, and even a return bus to Neiva when I left Villavieja. Value for money amazing, very comfortable bed and my own bathroom. The traditional breakfast was delicious and large, and water, lemonade and coffee always available. A genuine experience
- Lohan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Loisehr (9/5): Superb - The host is great! very helpful
- Thomas (8/5): Very good - The rooms are not luxurious but have all that’s needed and are clean. The owners are extremely welcoming, and happy to help out with whatever, from activities to transportation. Plus, they were very happy to know more and exchange with me, which made my stay even more worthy.
Highly recommended is the desert tour, and through them you can book one directly with a guide, and shape it together according to what you want. I managed to see parts of the desert that are not normally included in the std tours.
- Andres (9/5): Superb - The owners are just wonderful, and very helpful
- Mousa (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are a lovely couple, that is ready to help with any problems you might have. They helped me in organising transportation and tours, and were very attentive to food-wishes. There is filtered water for free.
- Vlad (8/5): Amazing stay with locals - We stayed with the most lovely host, who looked after us all the time, prepared us the most amazing lemonade to cool down in the heat and the best and most filling breakfast. The hostal was well located and easy to find ( we walked on foot from the ferry for 15 mins), and it was close to the main street where you can buy water and food. The room was relatively basic, but we were ok with this. And without Aircon it gets very hot, but we were offered multiple fans to keep the air moving.
- Romy (10/5): If your planning a visit to Villavieja then this is for sure the place to stay. - The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The area is easily accessible and most of all, the hosts, especially Matilde are an absolute treasure on earth. She was attentive and caring from the moment we arrived til the moment we left, had delicious lemonade prepared for us everytime we arrived at the hostal and made us a wonderful breakfast each morning. She organised our tour through the Tatacoa desert and even our bus ride back to Neiva. She was always ready to offer assistance for anything we could have needed. You never saw her without a welcoming smile on her face and we are forever grateful for the generousity she showed us. Each review about the amazing host is exactly spot on but its hard to describe the type of kindness that you will find at Hostal Arambulo with words, so the best advice i can give you, is to just stay there and find out yourself.
We came for Tatacoa desert but were equally amazed by our host.
Thank you so much Edgar and Matilde for showing us a very rare type of kindness, it was an honour for us to stay in your home and a part of our trip that we will never forget. I hope to see you again someday ❤️
Tu alma es de oro y tu corazón la esmeralda más bella de Colombia.
- Sophie (10/5): Home away from home - Matilde was the kindest most generous person I have met we loved staying at arambulo it was a home away from home. I couldn’t recommend it more.
- El (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Nikola (10/5): Exceptional - Very quiet and comfortable stay. The staff is very helpful and sweet. Breakfast is delicious and sufficient. I would definitely come back.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - The owners are super nice and incredibly helpful! Great breakfast and homemade lemonade. It can get really hot. There are fans inside the room but they don't help that much.
- Leah (10/5): Exceptional - The host is extremely friendly and helpful. The location in the town is good. Within 5 minutes you are on the plaza. The room was spacious. The bathroom was a little bit small, but perfectly fine. And everything was very clean. Breakfast was good and you could have it whenever you wanted. I really recommend this place! Note, the host doesn't speak English, but everything worked out fine with the help of Google Translate. Nothing!
- Sophie (10/5): Super! - The hosts were super nice. They were happy to prepare breakfast at whatever time. When she noticed I was up earlier then my partner and sitting outside the room in the rocking chair, she kindly brought me coffee. It is a nice small scale hotel and the garden is great for some relaxation.
- Marije (9/5): Perfect - the host was really sweet and helpfull. breakfast was amazing and big. Room was perfect and even the fan had a silent mode. Matras was perfect!
Be aware then when you arrive after a long travelday she will sit you down to talk albout tours and transport. She is not pushy though i don't speak spanish so communication was a bit difficult. There were a lot of questions haha
- Maike (10/5): Exceptional - Marta and her family are really welcoming and caring. Was a great stay there.
- Annelies (10/5): Best guesthouse in Villavieja - Mati is a lovely host, she is beyond lovely and takes care of you like your very own Colombian mother. She is present at the guesthouse all day and every time you arrive back there from an activity she is there wanting to give you coffee or lemonade. She also arranged a cheap tuktuk for us to go to the desert and arranged the jeep back to Neiva to pick us up at her guesthouse.
Her breakfasts are also tasty and we can't thank her and her husband enough for making us feel like a part of the family We liked everything but if we can say one thing that could need improvement, it's the small bathroom.
- Blaine (8/5): Nice place to stay! - This was a lovely place to stay. Very quiet. Our hosts were lovely and breakfast was great. They helped organize our day trip which we enjoyed. The room is very hot, the two fans did help a little.
- Josh (10/5): The best place to stay in Villavieja - Simple but clean and comfortable room, with 2 fans to help with the heat. Great breakfast, lemonade and tour recommendations. But the main thing is the kindness of Mati, she is a wonderful person who looked after us as though we were family ❤️ We were sad to leave but hopefully we can return some day!
- Alexandra (10/5): Feels like home - The host made us feeling like home. She is extremely welcoming, prepares amazing breakfast, coffee and house-made lemonade in-between. I can definitely recommend the offered tour to the Tatacoa desert. They also organized a collectivo back to neiva for us.
- Elisabeth (10/5): Friendly host and cozy room - Everything was perfect!
We particularly appreciated the kindness of the owner 😊! She also helped us organize a tour which was very good. Nothing
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - The host is very sympathetic and helpful. She arranged a trip with a motorbike into the dessert and provided recommendations. Even though we left very early in the morning she prepared a lovely breakfast.
- Felix (10/5): Exceptional - Matilda is a wonderful host
- Laura (10/5): Most amazing place on our trip! - First off the staff: amazing!!! We arrived quite late but got still welcomed with a freshly made lemonade (which was so delicious!) and she even got up at 4:30 in the morning to prepare us breakfast because we wanted to see the sunrise. You will immediately feel at home there and the rooms are clean and big enough and you geg a very nice back yard and pick ups right at the house. I would defenetly recommend this place if you want to see the tatacoa desert.
- Franziska (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was so lovely
They went above and beyond to make me feel at home
Everytime I came back they waited with lemonade or something
They even got up at 4am to make me breakfast
Can really recommend !!! If you are travelling alone and want to meet people then this is not the place to be as it’s just 4 dorms
The location on google maps is also wrong but people in town know Arambulo and will just show you the way !
- Malte (10/5): best Hosting in Tatacoa - Mathilde was an outstanding host. She prepares an awesome breakfast, lemonade or coffee at anytime. The rooms have enough space and everything was clean.
- Jill (9/5): Superb - The staff were just so accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble.
I liked the unusual shower.
The bar was awesome with very cheap cocktails! And the food wS excellent 👌
Great WiFi. No TV but you are so busy in San Agustin that you don't want or need it and trust me - I like my TV. The only minor thing was that I like my mattress a little softer but I e slept on way worse. But the pillows were wonderful!
- George (10/5): The place to stay in Villavieja - We had a fantastic time at Hostal Arambulo.
Matilde was a brilliant host. Always on hand to offer assistance & provided a great breakfast as well as ice cold lemonade on arrival/return to the property.
The room was very comfortable- with two very good fans and a comfy bed.
This is the place to stay when visiting Villavieja.
Thank you Matilde and thank you for putting up with our very basic Spanish!
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - The woman was really nice & helpful!
- Allan (7/5): Good - Very generous portions Rooms were very hot. They had two fans and no A/C. It was a little uncomfortable. IMHO
- Dora (10/5): Great! - All reviews I read were true. Amazing hosts, cold juice, and I really appreciated their help in organizing my tour. In addition, coffee was brought to my room in the morning. Such a great service.
Thank you! -
- Anonymous (10/5): Welcoming family!!! Will help you with anything you need. Breakfast was exceptional, no need to eat until dinner. -
- Oliver (10/5): Unfortunately, my partner was sick for the entirety of our stay after contracting a stomach bug from an overland hike ne - The host was the best person we’ve ever met! Nothing !
- Șerban (10/5): Exceptional - I rarely consider that I must give a 10 and write a few words on top of that. Our experience was perfect. The host was extremely kind, very patient with our spanish speaking, always attentive, making us feel more than welcomed. She arranged everything for us, including transport at 4 o'clock in the morning the day we left. I would definitely recommend the moto-taxi drive to the desert in the morning and to the observatory in the evening, they are superb experiences by themselves.
- Wieske (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly people, a cold drink everytime we returned hot and sweaty back to the hostel. Good breakfast. Comfortabel room. Came with us to the road to stop the bus.
- Evelin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - This is really good value for money. The beds are actually very comfy. It gets hot in the day but there are 2 fans in the room and it cools down at night. The breakfast is lovely- coffee, fruit and eggs. And the lady who runs the hostal is so lovely and goes above and beyond. definitely recommend a stay! It’s only about 15 mins in a tuk tuk to the red desert. about 30 mins to the grey desert.
- Barbora (9/5): Superb -
- Tomáš (10/5): Basic clean room with very very very kind owners - Basic clean room with private bathroom. Delicious breakfast and big portions. The host is very nice and kind family. They welcomed us with ice tea and gave us ice tea every time we came from tour. They managed us guide to Tatacoa desert for very good price. We went on New Year’s Day to Neiva and because there was no Colectivo running that day, they spent many hours to get us affordable transfer to the city. We would definitely stay again!
- Paleomylites (10/5): lovely host, delicious tamale! - Matilde is a wonderful host, very helpful. She made us delicious tamales and assisted in organising tours of the Tatacoa desert and with our travel to Neiva, she was very kind and giggly, and patient with us as we weren’t very good at speaking Spanish. thank you very much!
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
- Juliette (10/5): Exceptional - The owner is an incredible lady who went out of her way to make sure I and all the other guests were comfortable. She was always offering us coffee or lemonade, arranged a tour of the desert at a very good price, and also called ahead so that the bus back to Neiva picked us from the hotel.
The hotel itself is simple but comfortable, the rooms are clean and bathrooms look new. It has a nice outdoor space to relax in. Just note that there is no hot water, but it’s very hot in Villavieja so not needed at all.
- Merle (10/5): The best place to stay in Villavieja - Everything but top of the list was the staff. They were all so kind and helpful. I arrived late after a long day of travelling and the owner made me dinner! so incredible. location is perfect too. I cannot recommend staying here enough. nothing!
- Marleen (7/5): Good - Very nice host and great breakfast. Location in a quiet street and very new, modern bathrooms The doors are not closing completely which means that lots of big insects are coming in at night
- Fabrizio (10/5): Exceptional - Incredibly hospitable. Definitely deserve your custom. Nothing.
- Oriana (10/5): The best Hostel in Villavieja - The owners are really nice, they help always when you need something, they are looking always that everything is fine. They give you good advices where to go and what to do. Everything was very clean and the breakfast was really good.
I recommend you to stay here, Both owners will treat you good, you will feel very comfortable. If you want to go to the desert villavieja is the best place youre fast there and villavieja is a very nice town and the people are all siper friendly. And this Hostel ist near to almost everything.
- Rhodri (10/5): Wonderful! Super accommodating staff, like staying at your nans house. - incredibly friendly staff with a spotless room and great facilities! For what you pay it’s been the best sleeping experience so far. can’t speak highly enough of all the people working there :) It’s basic in terms of being a great room with breakfast but nothing in terms of entertainment aside from a tv with Netflix in each room. Great place to stay the night though and plenty of shade and chairs to read your book in the days.
- Lena (7/5): Good -
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional - Staying here felt like staying with the kindest family. Mathilda, the owner, always greets you with a smile and offers a glass of lemonade or coffee. We shared many nice moments, conversations and she helped me organize a fantastic tour in the desert, as well as the bus back to Neiva. 100% recommended.
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional - It is a lovely place,lovely hosts
- Carl (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andreas (9/5): Superb - Such a loveable and caring hosting! Mathilde and Edgar gave us such a warm welcome after a long journey in the bus. They also organized a guide for us (Carlos) and we got a second fan. Moreover, the breakfast is 'muy rico'.
Communication before our stay was possible in english but its better to be able to speak a little bit of spanish when you arrive. -
- Leon (10/5): Very recommendable! Ultimate hospitality! - Great location, very friendly with everything you need. Large and delicious breakfast, always coffee and lemonade if you like to and just the best possible attention!
