Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): -
- Luz R (10/5): - The owners of this property are the sweetest people. They made sure we were comfortable and welcomed us so kindly. The breakfast was so good. There was a rooftop patio that had beautiful views of the town and the Amazon river.
- Elisa (10/5): Fourth time is a charm! - Fourth time staying here we love Don Israel the owner. Delicious breakfast!
- Yanchen (10/5): - We feel very welcomed by the host, I like specially the host's sister Mercedes so much, she is always so warm hearted, she guided us hiking to see parrots and monkeys, also cooked lunch for us before we leave. I also recommend the guide Neider who works together with the hotel, he is very nice and offers varies day tour with good price. The balcony and yard of this apartment are so lovely, I enjoyed the time sitting there on the hammoks. Some descriptions are not correct. The normal room is small, it's written 20 square meter on booking but actually it's only around 10. Also the bathroom is different from picture. The one on picture is only availabe in Queen deluxe room. So we upgraded room but with additional cost.
- Manuel (9/5): -
- Christian (10/5): - Sehr gute Lage, tolles Personal und wunderbare Unterkunft.
- Lydia (10/5): Felt like home! - Our stay in Maiku Amazonas was wonderful. Israël, the owner, made sure to help us book the boat from Leticia to Puerto Nariño, was waiting for us at the port, helped us with our luggage and gave us a very nice tour in the village.
This hotel is an absolute gem, clean, big, with beautiful spots to hang out and admire wonderful views surrounded by nature.
Also won’t forget a very delicious breakfast and coffee, always ready on time!!
If you want to feel like home I strongly recommend this amazing accommodation!!
Thanks again for everything Israel, I hope we have the change to visit you again some time !!
- Valentina (10/5): - Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo, struttura molto semplice.
- Rocio (9/5): Superb -
- Laurenh75 (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous garden out front. Neider came and met us at the port when we arrived. We did the caminata nocturna, the sloth tour, and the lake tour. They were incredible and Neider spoke very clear Spanish and we understood everything though it's not our first language. Nada
- Ryan (8/5): Beautiful small hostel with great common areas - A really nice small hostel with beautiful plants and cool architecture. You feel like you are in nature. The hammocks/swinging chairs on the roof hangout spot is great, for the view and for relaxing without distraction. The shared bathroom was large and clean. Everything worked. The beds had mosquito netting and the dorm has good lockers. The staff were always helpful and responsive. A quiet place day and night- excellent to relax, sleep. And still close to everything in Puerto Nariño. The included breakfast is fairly basic. After 1-2 days you'll want something different.
The 4-bed dorm room is small. There are 2 fans on the wall and they work well but with four people on a hot day this room would get hot.
For some reason there were a large number of baby cockroaches in the room. This didn't cause any problem, just sort of gross. The place was kept very clean so I don't know where they were coming from.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - I loved my time here. The facilities were excellent, the host was super nice and helpful, and we spend a lot of time watching the view of the river from the terrace.
- Neeley (10/5): Amazing Amazona views - Awesome view of the Amazon from the top balcony! Very comfortable beds and, great breakfast, and on the edge of town with parrots and monkeys occasionally visiting. Israel was a lovely host. We extended and doubled our days here it was so comfortable. There's even a cold/hot potable water dispenser! Kitchen is very basic. One burner. But, it has everything you need to make some pasta or a pot of soup.
.
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalie (10/5): Beautiful place and beautiful people - Beautiful decoration
Artsy , cozy
Nather managing property is brilliant guy, he took us on various tours and we all had great time. Wildlife around is beautiful. Everything
- Sara (9/5): I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Maiku to friends or family visiting. The staff, especially Neider, were so lovely an - The property is in a great location, an easy walk from the pier, but quite quiet, backing on to trees (I saw two monkeys jumping through the branches just before breakfast this morning). It has a wonderful lush entrance and it really is almost built like a treehouse.
There is a lovely open communal area that it’s nice to hang out in- if you have to wait out a downpour. It helps that the staff and other guests were so friendly. The shower in the bunk room bathroom didn’t work well. But I still got clean, and I should have said something about it.
- Alois (9/5): Lovely hostel in Puerto Narino - Great hostel. Friendly hosts. We had a great time and learned a lot about the area, its culture and wildlife with Neider, the hotel guide. Nice view from the terrace.
- Ivonne (9/5): Superb - The hammocks are the best. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They make vegetarian breakfast if you request it. During mango harvest there are always mangoes to eat
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were really friendly and took us on tours into the jungle and down the river to see some wildlife and indigenous communities. The hostel itself is a great place to relax and switch off. The top terrace has a great view over the river, and we even saw monkeys running along the wire just in front of the terrace!
- Moritz (9/5): Superb -
- Aistė (10/5): Amazing place in Amazonias - Everything was great. Staff was super friendly, rooms were simple but clean, there are plenty of common spaces to chill out, location was perfect. Of course, you have to understand that this place is in the middle of Amazonias. This means that you can meet all kinds of bugs, reptiles or even monkeys in the trees but that’s what makes your stay here unique.
- Fabio (8/5): Friendly and kind hosts made it worrhy - Good for Puerto Nariño possibilities There was some construction work in progress affecting dinning room’s view
- Paul (10/5): Comfortable. Tranquil. - Beautiful property. The beds are very comfortable. The location is great. Most importantly the family that run it are amazing. I would highly recommend. Neider the owners son, is an amazing tour guide and I would really recommend booking an excursion with him.
- Elisa (10/5): Comfort, privacy and delicious breakfast! - I can’t begin to express how comfortable this hotel was! Owned by a sweet local couple, the breakfast was delicious and never the same. The sheets were clean and the room spotless. We had two fans in the room which was helpful. The room is not made of wood which made a different in keeping the mosquitos out. The upstairs deck had a breathtaking view. Loved all the hammocks! We will return! You have to walk a bit up a hill to get there but nothing too crazy. It was my morning exercise. Worth it for this lovely place.
- Owen (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was absolutely excellent. The owner was absolutely lovely and very friendly. They also recommended Alex the guide who took me out to lake Tarapoto, the sloth island, an excellent night walk and to a local village all for an excellent price. Even with him only speaking Spanish and my grasp of the language being very little, we still had excellent conversation and he was great company. Would highly recommend this Refugio Maiku Puerto Nariño as a place from which to launch your Amazon adventures.
- Dragan (10/5): Perfect as a base to explore the Amazonian forest around, lovely staff, can help organise activities - Very nice lodge in Puerto Narino, we were staying in a double room with, comfortable bed, there are two very efficient fans and a mosquito net around the bed (we were there during a dry season so not many mosquitoes). Breakfast, simple but nice, served at a little terrace, and a small kitchen is also available. There is a nice balcony with a view to the river to chill. The staff can help you organise activities in the Amazon with their guide Alex, who took us to a nice trip to a village across the river in Peru, to see the sloths and visit a community. They have a wide range of activities, recommend informing yourself a few days before and making a plan, but you can also find something on the spot. Be advised that there are domestic animals in the gardens around so you will likely wake up early with the sound of roosters - but that is part of the experience!
- Hannah (9/5): Lovely staff - The staff here are really kind and helpful. They booked our boat tickets for us, did a clothes wash and put us in touch with a wonderful guide Alex who we'd highly recommend.
The balcony has a beautiful view and there are nice communal spaces to hang out. Beds were comfortable and clean and the dorm room had lockers. The included breakfast was nice- eggs, bread, fruit & plantain. Only 2 of the 4 beds in the dorm had mosquito nets & plug sockets.
- Orpwood (10/5): Excellent! - I had such a lovely stay, the host was so kind and attentive! The hostel was a good location with excellent facilities. Loved the rooftop terrace / mirador! I also had a tour with Alex (+57 311 2890707) through the hostel. We went to lake tarapoto and the tour was amazing with lots of information! Would recommend :) Nothing
- Donatienne (10/5): Exceptional - Had an amazing stay. The place is really nice and has terrific views on the Amazon river.
Señor Israel was an amazing host.
He also put me in contact with a great guide, Alex, who took very good care of us and made us discover many wonders of the area.
Highly recommend both the accommodation and the activities and excusions with Alex !
- Kaja (10/5): Nice, relaxing place, definitely a recommendation! - we had a really nice stay ! clean rooms and a very lovely and welcoming owner :) special shout out to our tour guide alex, thanks for showing us around and being so nice !
- Cazaurang (8/5): Different - Nature Room space
- Simone (8/5): Great experience in Puerto Narinho - Great location, cute place with a terraço with river view. Clean room and great breakfast wi-fi works!
- Aljaz (10/5): Great stay in town - This was a very pleasant stay. Good location in town, 5-10min walk to restaurants, stores and the port. The terrace was my favorite place, incredible view on the Amazon river, great place to relax and chill. Wi-Fi was surprisingly good, Claro has a great coverage in town too so data works great. Israel and his sister Mercedes were very nice to me, Naider arranged my tours with local guides (Diego was superb) at reasonable local price, tours were fantastic,
- Allison (10/5): Exceptional - Such an amazing hostel, like living in a tree house in the jungle. Needed more fans in the rooms. Puerto Nariño is SO HOT AND HUMID, having one mounted fan in the dorm room was not enough.
- Georg (9/5): A great and cheap place to stay for a few nights with a small but nice breakfast. I would recommend to stay there and wo - Very friendly owners, quiet part of Puerto Nariño, very friendly and helpful owners, nice breakfast and generally a very nice setting. Mattress was quite soft.
- Lukasz (10/5): Perfect stay - Very frendly owner. They bought for us tickets for boat to make sure that we have the spot. Very good breakfast. Spectacular view from the terrace. Due to poor ventilation in the room in the morning temperature in the room was higher that outside.
- Yvette (10/5): Most friendly and warm welcome in a tranquil little hotel in the middle of the jungle. - Breakfast was so tasty and made for when we needed/desired. The location was perfect, just outside of the main streets on the hill over looking the town and river. The mirador was amazing and a Greta place to chill. The hosts were so so Lovley and welcoming. Beds super comfy with a good fan and mosquito net. Very clean and well facilitated. Nothing!
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Cookson (9/5): Superb - Has fan And mosquito net for bed, light breakfast, view from top, small kitchen, private bathroom in private rooms, drinking water, can cook or heat up water, wifi ok Wifi not strong on top view terrace
- George (6/5): Pleasant - Missing AC
- Felipe (9/5): Superb -
- Quinten (8/5): Very good - Great location within a couple of minutes of the city centre. Very kind owner who looks after his visitors and makes sure they have a good time. Nice green garden around the property. Great mosquito net Room and especially bathrooms are very basic
- Valentina (8/5): Very good - The owner is really nice, and it's very easy to organize excursions from the hotel since they work in close collaboration with an excellent local guide (I only remember the nickname: Maraka). We got there in the morning, and we were able to organize an excursion in the afternoon the same day, and another one the following morning at a very affordable price. There's a beautiful roof terrace with hammocks, where you can relax while looking at the Amazon River.
- Zoe (8/5): Very good - The owner is very nice and prepares good breakfast. Really nice mirador where you can see the river and quiet surroundings
- Virginie (10/5): Good quality for price . - Great location downtown
Many plants and birds everywhere
Mosquito nets for the beds.
2nd floor has some hammock chairs and beds for a great sunset view.
Friendly staff.
Good basic breakfast.
They have excursions. Shower could have more pressure, it’s just a trickle of water.
Few insect in the room, but, it’s the jungle all around !
No wifi. We had to go downtown at the free wifi spot. Maybe it was just temporary.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place to relax after a hard day on the Amazon. Great common areas. Friendly staff. We did a few trips through the hotel and they were very good. Would recommend. Not perfect but you are in the middle of the Anazon rainforest so all not valid.
If you have any doubts about going to Puerto Narino then just go.
- Aoife (10/5): Absolutely loved staying here, and if I am ever in Puerto Nariño, I would stay here again! - Beautiful, clean, safe and comfortable!
- Ma100000 (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was really good (egg sandwich with tomato)
Amazing view and comfy rooftop
A small kitchen with plates etc (no stove or anything like that tho)
Free coffee and tea available There was no problem, but in the shared rooms a tint locker would be nice
- Sarah (10/5): Garden of Eden in the Amazon - Excellent breakfast, excellent location on the top of the hill. The hotel has a roof top level with hammocks and a great view of the river. The owner could not have been more friendly and accommodating. The whole place was truly a garden of Eden. We were offered cacao beans to suck on and he explained the process of making chocolate. Because I am a beekeeper, he gave us a tour of his hives with stingless, native to the amazon honey bees. We could not have been more pleased with everything. And Puerto Narino is so beautiful - with it's clean sidewalks and NO motor vehicles. A big contrast from Leticia where we started our trip. The walk to the hotel is up a big hill! But it's not that long and there are plenty of places to rest on your way up with every street intersection decorated with a different and very cool sculpture. And, of course, going back to the harbor was an easy walk downhill.
- Regan (9/5): Superb - I had such a nice stay at Refugio Maiku! Israel was such a kind and helpful host. He met us at the ferry when we arrived, showed us to the hostel and told us everything we needed to know about our stay and booking activities. The hostel was cozy and the upstairs hammock hangout area was awesome with a great view. The little garden in the front was lovely and the included breakfast was decent and filling enough for the morning. The tour guide that organizes the activity for the hostel was so awesome and full of energy and was very good at spotting animals. The neighbors were a little noisy but I didn't mind it. Overall was a great stay and would recommend this spot in Puerto Nariño!
- Jherek (10/5): Exceptional - We liked the owner and the guy who came to meet us at the dock. They were super friendly and kind. The room was comfortable and spacious and it was nice to have a big bathroom. We also like the communal balcony overlooking the town and the river Amazon. We wish we could have stayed longer. Nothing
- Marco (8/5): Very good -
- Gerard (8/5): Great location, friendly staff, fantastic views - A wonderful setting, great views from the balcony over the Amazon. Very friendly hosts.
The bedroom was nice with an attached ensuite shower room. The hosts provided free tea and coffee all day and fresh fruit in the morning
- David (1/5): Bad - I strongly suggest that you do not Stay here, stay at Maloka Napü 50 meters around the corner. The room had one screened window that does not shut, people would smoke outside the window and cigarette smoke came into the room, nothing I could do. With only one window the room was noticeably hotter inside than out. I lost two days stay of money to move and it was easily worth it. Maloka Napü had free breakfast, a great garden area and the room was better in every way for the same price. Larger, better fan(important), better bathroom and higher ceiling. We arrived a day early and he did let us stay. Oops. I already covered most of it. I was surprised the breakfast cost extra. The bathroom door needs rapair and the bar to hang your towel was not attached in any way and fell easily.
- Karla (9/5): Amazing view and beautiful house in the Amazonas - Wonderful view from the top floor.
Friendly hosts. Free water, coffee and we received some fruits from their garden ☺️
Room was small, but clean and cozy.
Happy Latin music from the neighbors was at least liked by one of us 😋 You have to pay to use the kitchen.
The neighbors played loud music, but this was maybe a special occasion.
- Karl (7/5): Nice balcony and view - This was a basic hotel with a great open balcony and chilling out place. It had a great view of the Amazon. There was delicious fruit provided in the morning. They might not be able to help this problem but two neighbors across played loud music often and at one point until 4am. Very disturbing. Just FYI no hot water in the shower but this is standard in the region.
- Kirsten (9/5): Wonderful stay in Puerto Nariño - The accomodation is just a few minutes away from the small harbour in a quiet lane. Israel, the host is super friendly and always willing to help. The room is spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. Outside you will have a wonderful terrace where you can chill and have coffee and fruits for breakfast. Nothing more we could have asked for.
Our guide Neider was a gem and even if our Spanish is just basic, we managed to get along very well. All good for us and better than expected!
- Michael (10/5): We enjoyed of place and jungle tour. - When we arrived to Puerto Narino we were welcomed by a local guide (Neider) that our host (Israel) invited for us, so we were managed from the beginning of our jungle tour. The place was perfect concerning Amazonas environment. There is no WiFi (no one has WiFi in Puerto Narino) but we had Claro sim card, so had connection. Morning coffee , fruits, water are free. Highly recommended place.
- Tomer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marta (10/5): The best place to stay in Puerto Nariño! - I loved everything! I had a beautiful private room with super comfortable bed. I probably didn’t make the best use of it, as I was spending most of my time on the terrace. The place is located at the edge of town, far away from the music and activities in the centre, but still very close to walk. The outdoor space is just stunning. Hosts are amazing people, very kind and helpful. There’s always a bowl of fruit waiting for me for breakfast:)
The place was never packed with people, there were only random travellers, so it felt very private and quiet- and this is exactly what you need in the middle of Amazonas!
- Sharon (9/5): Adorable Hotel! - What an adorable little place!! Rustic and cute. The hotel is full of character, the terraces are filled with flowers, cacao trees in the garden, hanging chairs in the common area and a lovely view across the river. It's just so peaceful. Everyone who works there is absolutely lovely, they really went above and beyond - sitting and helping me with my Spanish, bringing me fresh cacao from the garden. I had a medical problem while I was there and as soon as I told them they took me to the hospital, explained things to the doctor etc. Would highly recommend, and Puerto Narino itself is one of the highlights of my trip. I felt like the shower mat might need replacing! Everything else was perfect 🙂
- Joel (8/5): Very good -
- Ana (9/5): Superb - Quiet place, good location, really nice staff Could do with a bit more cleaning in the bathroom
- Jamie (10/5): An incredible location, probably the best place to stay in Puerto Narino. - A beautiful location in Puerto Narino with an incredible view over the Amazon
- Monica (7/5): Good -
