- Romana (9/5): - Das moderne Zirbenholzzimmer Über eine Woche hinweg hätte das Frühstück abwechslungsreicher sein können. Teilweise war das Obst und Gemüse knapp und eigenwillig angerichtet.

- Lynne (10/5): An exceptional property in a glorious location. Auf wiedersehen. - The guesthouse is in the old town and an easy walk to the railway station. I enjoyed the traditional Bavarian hospitality and surroundings. My room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. The excellent buffet breakfast. The property is close to many walking and hiking tracks. Good recommendations for restaurants and local activities. Nothing really

Cost room with excellent en-suite shower room.
Nice breakfast provided too. Room was a little dark, but who goes to Mittenwald to sit in a hotel room!

Family run with excellent breakfast. Stayed here several times would recommend this accommodation.Good choice of rooms many with balcony with views of nearby mountains. - Hanin (10/5): Exceptional - The view from our room was amazing. Also, the style of the hotel was charming and The stay was really comfortable beyond expectation. And the lady of the place was really nice and bright.
- Jim (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Relaxing stay in a wonderful area for walking and enjoying the outdoors. - Recently modernised room with a great view. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Nothing - everything was as it should be
- William (10/5): Exceptional - The room was comfortable, very nicely expanded by the balcony with view. Two other points stand out. One was the quality of the dinner and breakfast, both of which were absolutely superb, beyond expectations. The second was the memorable hosts: kind, helpful, gracious. They left us with wonderful memories, so important when travelling. Thank you most sincerely. nada
- Nancy (10/5): We enjoy our stay and we would stay there again. - Great location with a beautiful view. Very helpful and accommodating hosts.
- Peter (10/5): Friendly Alpine guesthouse - An authentic alpine guest house, with plenty of space and good breakfast. Amazing Mountain view from our balcony. And the proprietor was very helpful and it’s well located (albeit Mittenwald is tiny!). Very little. A door between the bedroom and living room would have provided slightly more privacy.
- Gothwal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christina (10/5): Good value for the money and Bavarian hospitality at its best - There were many choices for the typical German breakfast, hearty breads, yogurt, muesli, jam, hard boiled eggs, etc. The breakfast room was very tastefully decorated as was the room that we stayed in. All of the staff that we met were very friendly and professional and spoke English with us when our limited German failed us. The room we stayed in appeared to be newly renovated, including the bathroom, and it was decorated with stunning photos from the area. The kitchenette came with a mini bar and all the utensils, glasses and plates that we needed for our stay. The view from the balcony faced the beautiful Karwendel mountains, had it been warm enough, we would have spent enjoying the view from the balcony. The property is located in a quiet neighborhood just a five minute walk from the train station and very close to the main street of Mittenwald. My travel companion and I would not hesitate to stay at this property again. We were pleasantly surprised with this property, it has the charming Bavarian guesthouse feel but with a modern touch and excellent service. Can't think of anything that I did not like about my stay.
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leandro (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place and city! I really liked the time spent there!!
- David (10/5): Great place to stay in Mittenwald - The gasthaus is located near the center of town just a few minutes walk to the shops and restaurants. The accommodation offers rooms with balcony with chairs to sit and relax when not exploring the surroundings. I good German breakfast is provided with cake and coffee in the afternoon. The owner as available should you need anything. A perfect place to stay in Mittenwald. Nothing
- Darshan (9/5): Superb - Very central location, within 200m from bahnhof.
Check in time is 12:00
- BoardingPass772354 (10/5): A touch of Bavaria - Gastehaus Sonnenheim Hotel is within easy walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and a handy ATM. The room was good size with gorgeous German woodwork throughout. Of course the views of the Alps were spectacular! A simple but filling breakfast was included. My only disappointment was that I came to Germany dressed for a "snow fix" and I did not see a flake!
- pleione73 (8/5): A very pleasant Gastehuas...not a hotel. - My wife and I stayed here whilst on a walking holiday in the area.
The Gastehaus is situated very close to the town centre and offers a comfortable, if basic, range of options.
Our room was a little cramped and oddly had the toilet and shower in one small room and the sink in the main bedroom - not a major inconvenience but a little odd I felt.
The rooms are clean and well looked after.
This Gastehaus does not do evening meals and so a trip into Mittenwald is needed.
The breakfast is simple but filling.
- edways (10/5): Clean and Comfortable - Initially we chose this guest house due to the location close to the train station. We were very pleased with our stay. We got a top floor room with twin beds. It was more like an apartment having a bedroom area, living area with table, bathroom, and private balcony. The typical German breakfast was very good. It was an easy walk to everything in town. We would definitely stay here again.
- PennyS1657 (10/5): Immaculate, a Bavarian Charmer, great location - Sitting on our balcony vieiwing the snow capped alps and watching the local townspeople ride the bikes through town. Occasional some gentleman would ride by with the traditional Bavarian attire. Felt like we were on an amazing movie set. We drove to a nearby wilderness area for a hike; hardly anyone on the trails. The hotel was authentic in every intricate wood trim, carved chair or wardrobe. Good breakfast and lovely host. HIGHLY recommend it.
- SrijnanSanyal (10/5): Cosy, friendly, central - A clean and cosy hotel. Maria, the owner possibly, was friendly and accommodative. We reached 15 min before time and wanred to leave our luggage after checking out. She obliged both the times. We took an attic room for two. It was clean, quiet and came with a balcony overlooking the mountain in front. Attached toilet was clean and not cramped. Carry your own toiletries, as what supplied may not be adequate. Breakfast, mostly cold, but came with tea/ coffee and boiled egg, was reasonable.
- Onlily (4/5): Nothing of we expected. - Nothing of what we expected after so many good comments at this site . This hotel is central located in a silent area. We had a very big room and to our surprise there was a kitchen cabinet in our room, what we didn’t like. The bathroom has a bath tube with limited height, making it difficult to take a shower standing up, due to the inclined ceiling.
Also a towel gave me a bad impression because the moment I was going to use it I found hairs on it.
I’m nothing against pets, but I think in a breakfast room of a hotel is not the place for 2 big dogs and a cat that threw up on the floor where the self service tables were with the food. Also the cat was disturbing us where we were taking our breakfast. The owner apologized but this does not solve our point.
For sure we will not return!!!
- G6022RVjessicaf (10/5): Charming hotel in cute German town - This was by far our favorite hotel and location during our 2 week trip in Europe. The hotel was a quick walk from the train stop, and the staff was very friendly. We stayed for 3 nights in a comfortable double room that had a cute balcony and sitting area. Great views, free wifi and breakfast.
We loved walking to the old town and also walked over to the Leutaschklamm / Geisterklamm. Definitely worth the 3 Euros to walk in the gorge to the waterfall. Being close to the train station was great for day trips to Innsbruck, Garmishch, etc.
- KatieJo28 (8/5): Charming! - This was an adorable hotel. Exactly what you would expect for a charming alpine villa. The room had a small sitting area and a balcony. The location is excellent - just a short walk to the "downtown" area. Breakfast was a little smaller than other places we stayed - coffee, a meat and cheese tray, basket of bread and a soft boiled egg served at your table and then a small side table with some juice and delicious coffee cake. Not a lot of variety but very tasty and well prepared.
- HolsR4us (10/5): Lovely hotel - We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We had a top floor rooms with a private bathroom and sitting area plus balcony. The room was beautiful, quiet and very clean. Breakfast was included in the price and plentiful. Parking was available.
Would stay again as right in the centre of Mittenwald which is a lovely place.
- josanpu (8/5): Lovely, Quiet, Friendly, Helpful - I stayed in December and found it to be a comfortable place. I was ill at the time, and they were helpful. The price was fair, the breakfast fine, and the room was cosy. I would not hesitate to return.
- wendys001 (10/5): Gorgeous village, gorgeous views out our window!! - Lovely guesthouse, beautiful village, we had stunning views out our window! Central location, we enjoyed a stroll through town the evening we arrived as well as the next day. Gracious hostess. Comfortable beds (2 twin beds). Small sitting area in our room. Free wi-fi. We only spent one night here, and would love to come back and spend more time. The town is beautiful - the buildings are painted with frescoes, and a stream runs through the middle of the town. The views of the alps were spectacular!
- TravelTiel (10/5): Stunning place to visit during the Christmas month - This review is a bit late but a family of 2 visited Mittenwald for a few days during the winter. Spectacular view of the mountains from every window (including the bathroom!!). We got a room with comfortable double beds with a private balcony. We stayed warm very well. Good wifi, crisp bed sheets, homely atmosphere, everything was up to my standard of cleanliness. The place was absolutely stunning. We hired a car and visited Ludwig's castles and had dinners at the nearby restaurants. The owner was very friendly indeed as well as her German shepherd. Our German breakfast of coffee, rye bread, cheeses and hams were a nice addition as well. We were sad to leave. Honestly, Gästehaus Sonnenheim is better than any 4 star hotel I've been to. It was exactly what I wanted, very family friendly and definitely worth our money.
- ruchishrestha (10/5): Amazing views from the rooms facing the mountains - We travelled there as a family of 4, MIL and GIL in one room, and partner and I in the other. Both rooms had great views, and rooms were very cosy and clean. Great location, just a few hundred meters from the train station.
- Cxherrer (8/5): Great stay - We had two rooms in this lovely place. We loved the experience of a small, cozy place. The only thing I would change is the two story stair we had to climb with heavy luggage. The town is absolutely delightful and we will definitely go back there.
- SD_Josh (10/5): Great place to stay in Mittenwald... - My wife and I spent 3 nights here in mid-July. The location, steps from the information center, was perfect for heading into the village each evening for dinner. Frau Kuffler demonstrated the epitome of German hospitality. Our room was clean, the bed was firm, and the breakfast was just what we needed before a day spent hiking in the surrounding mountains...exactly the experience we were hoping for by staying in Mittenwald.
- muchoviajar (10/5): Great Stay/Terrific Gastehaus/Terrific Town - My wife and I stayed six nights at the Sonnenheim on a 24 day trip to Europe. Had I known how special the inn and town were, we would have stayed longer. The resident dog, Attila, is an Old World German Shepard with long hair and a thick coat. Frau Kuffler, our hostess, said when we saw the two of them in town "immer mit mir" or "always with me". She speaks enough English to deal with guests, but appreciates it if you know a few words of German. Breakfast is good and the coffee is excellent.
We stayed in a room with balcony on two sides, one overlooking the Rathaus and town, the other with a view of the Karwendel mountain. A trip up the cable car to the Karwendel provides spectacular views of the Alps (try to go on a clear day).
Walking through the small town is delightful. The pictures painted on many of the houses and buildings are as much as 200 years old. Restaurants are also plentiful and good. The Gasthaus Romerschanz restaurant is reviewed separately.
Mittenwald is also a good base for exploring. We took a day trip to two of Ludwig's castles, Linderhof and Neuschwanstein, as well as the town of Oberammergau and spent a little less than three hours driving. In the other direction, you can ride part of the Alpenstrasse (the part just above Berchtesgarten is most beautiful in my opinion).
In summary, get there as soon as you can and stay as long as you are able.
- ErnestS59 (10/5): Enchanting Spot - This is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast in a magical Bavarkan village very near the Austrian border. It is surrounded by breathtaking Alpine views in all directions. Our twin room was a little small, but very comfortable, with en-suite bathroom. Both the room and the bath were very clean and the bath towels were large (2 meters long) and soft. The breakfast, served by frau Kuffler (Maria) was a very nice German breakfast with both hard and soft boiled eggs, toast, rolls, a selection of jams and jellies, cheese and ham, with very good coffee. The WiFi connection showed a 6 MPS download speed as measured on bandwidthplace.com and supported streaming video nicely.
- RWQ42 (10/5): A very pleasant stay - This was our first time staying in a Bed and Breakfast, and we were thrilled with the quality of the room and the breakfast. The host is really nice, and she makes an amazing breakfast. The room was large, comfy bed, nice amenities, all spotlessly clean. And Mittenwald is a great town!
- 353sandyb (10/5): Very nice hotel in a great town - We stayed 3 nights here and found it a terrific inn. Our room was very comfortable with a terrific view of the surrounding mountains. The inn keeper was very nice and helpful. She even allowed us to use her washer and dryer! Breakfast was very good. I loved the resident dog! There is lots to do in this beautiful part of Germany and Mittenwald is a great town to use for a hotel. Highly recommend this inn
