- Jaime (8/5): - La ubicación excelente, el personal era encantador. La cama era muy incómoda.
- Xavier (8/5): - Eenvoudig huisje op een goede locatie. 3 slaapkamers, ideaal voor een gezelschap van vrienden of familie. Betaling in cash.
- Helga (8/5): -
- Danilo (10/5): Peace and Nature ! - Good A/C, very good hot water, clean, owner is friendly!
Is near to all place ( super market, national park) , just take a few minutes.
I love hammocks, Oscar help me with the tours, is very nice !
Pura vida !!
- Sakura (6/5): Mediocre, had different expectations reading the reviews but reality was different. - We had different expectations probably reading the reviews but our room was very small, the common areas weren’t as great as we thought. For instance the kitchen was okay but not very well equipped: no drying towels for the dishes etc. Cutlery and bowls/plates and knifes were dirty. In the room there was barely space to store your stuff.
Good things were that the location was fine. Staff was friendly but not exceptional like we’ve seen in other hotels.
Overall it was ok but I wouldn’t book again.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Milan (9/5): Perfect - Everything was absolutely perfect – beautiful accommodation and a lovely place, with a tree full of toucans just a short distance from the garden. 🙂 The owner arranged an amazing early morning river tour for us, which I can highly recommend – an incredible experience! The only thing was the trash bin in the bathroom wasn’t emptied, but that’s just a minor detail.
- Salvatore (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barry (9/5): Superb -
- Victor (9/5): Great Value for Money - Friednly helpful Host, picked us up at the boat and helped us organize a turtle tour. Rooms, Porch and Kitchen were good. Very quiet place A few minutes walk from the main road but only a problem at midday with luggage due to the sticky heat.
- Jochen (4/5): You get what you pay for. - Well placed (but others are also well placed; the village is not big at all). Friendly staff. You have a kitchen. Good bathroom, hot water. Great communication upfront. Everything "works". Room very hot. Old, humid, smelling air condition (loosing water). Horrible matraces. Cheapest equipment (curtain holders, curtains)...some windows are fenced, others not, a window frame was loose...
- Esther (7/5): Helpful tour booking. Poor check-in. - Nice to have A/c. Warm shower. Oscar, the host, booked tours for us. We never met him - just arranged tours via WhatsApp on the day. Both the night walk & turtle tour arranged through Oscar were good. Oscar also booked a non-specified time boat ticket on the day of arrival from La Pavona for a good price. This made the process easier as we were able to tell the touts at the car park that we were already sorted for a boat. Hard to find - directions would have been useful. Just under a 10 min walk from the quay. No sign outside to identify the property. No-one at the quay had heard of the accommodation. After walking around in the heat trying to find it, a local man we met thankfully knew of the place & took us there.
Owner was not there when we arrived and not responding to WhatsApp messages. Waited 15 minutes then asked the neighbour who kindly contacted the owner’s wife, Karen, who then came to check us in 5 mins later.
Room small. Strange electronic buzzing noise/alarm ringing for a couple of hours early one morning was annoying.
- George (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (9/5): Nothing was too much trouble for Oscar and Karen, whether arranging tours or laundry. -
- Abe (10/5): Amazing! - Visiting Tortuguero was a big highlight of our trip in Costa Rica, thanks to the amazing help of Karin and Oscar. They have helped us book every tour, and because of them we ended up with the best guides and even private tours for standard prizes.
Apart from the tours and the clean room/house, especially the hospitality of Karin and Oscar Made our stay in Tortuguero so special. No where else in Costa Rica we have felt so welcomed! They came to pick us up from the boats, walked with us to the tours to make sure we found our way, and they were always availble to help us arrange things, or for just chitchat and a laugh. If you are looking for a wonderful stay in Tortuguero, definitely book here!!
- Kappelhof (9/5): Friendly host and very fine accomodation - Oscar is a very good host. Helpful for all questions. Good advice for excursions and the boat back to Pavona. The accomodation was spacy and the patio fine. Good kitchen. All very clean. -
- Mihai (8/5): Very true and wonderful natural experience stay! - Super friendly and helpful hosts, both Karen and Oscar! They helped us with directions to get there, saved us time with booking boats to/from Embarcadero, then helped us with booking canoe and night tours with a great guide in the area!
Their house has a sweet back-side garden with lots of plants and quite often visited by various animals coming by everyday when we spent time in the hammocks during afternoons.
The small room gave us everything we needed, including the very needed air-conditioner to cover the humidity during nights.
Overall a true authentic experience, like their location name! If you’re into true local experiences, this one is for you for sure! Maybe water pressure could have been better, but this might be a general case of the whole Tortuguero.
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Nancy (10/5): A peaceful, comfortable stay near the edge of Tortuguero National Park, private from the main downtown, but within easy - The hosts, Oscar and Karen, were superbly welcoming and friendly. Our favourite stay in all of Costa Rica! Quiet clean rooms with comfortable beds, individual A/C in our room, private bathroom and good shower. Safe and private. Well-equipped kitchen and a delightful covered patio to relax. We spotted a variety of birds, iguana, and a far off monkey from there. Easy walk to stores, restaurants, the boat dock, and the Tortuguero National Park. Oscar has his on boat with a quiet trolling motor, and he gave us an early morning boat tour of the National Park canals. He’s wonderful guide at spotting wildlife- many birds, spider monkeys, caiman, lizards. Nothing
- Nathalie (9/5): Superb -
- Carles (9/5): Superb -
- Ewan (8/5): Natural Experience House - Loved the location, with good facilities for what we needed. Oscar and Karen were great hosts! Gave us a lot of information prior to our stay and we're really helpful when answering any questions we had.
- Rosario (7/5): Good -
- Vogt (9/5): Superb - Nice hosts. If you have questions, they are very helpful.
The rooms are clean and the kitchen as well. Not really negative but it would have been good to know that the room must be paid in cash.
- Alexandra (8/5): Great house, clean, AC and a nice garden. - We had a complete house, with a great garden with hammocks. The host reacted real quick on question and came to pick is up by the boat. He and his wife were great hosts! He alsoarranged our tours for us for a Good price.
- Catherine (6/5): Pleasant - A/C was good. Water was hot in shower. The decor is very dated and not well executed.
- Liz (8/5): Very good -
- Mathieu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stewart (10/5): Great wildlife wake up calls - Oscar and Karen great hosts, available to help and offer advise and book tours. Great location amongst wildlife, great to sit in garden to relax , eat , drink and listen and see wildlife. Great morning wake up calls from wildlife..howler monkeys, raccoons, and numerous bird songs. Memory foam bed, but that's a personal thing.
- Itai (9/5): Nice stay - Good location. The host, Oscar, is very nice. We had someone waiting for us in La Pavona and a guide that took us from the dock to the apartment in the village and gave us explanations about the place and things to do on our visit. We had 2 rooms. One was very small and a bit stuffy. The bigger one was with common toilet.
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Francis (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandra (10/5): Lovely hotel - We had a wonderful stay in Tortuguero! The host is lovely and the outdoor area was perfect. It’s in a great location and the hotel works with a local tour operator who met us from our boat and sorted all our tours, it was perfect! There could have been extra pillows as they were quite hard!
- Alba (8/5): Friendly hosts and comfortable - Friendly hosts. Relatively comfy bed. Good air con. Shower good. As described. Good shared kitchen facilities.
Close to main street and national park entrance. Lock on room door was broken when we arrived, but hosts fixed it the same afternoon, but would be even better if this had been checked before.
On more of a side street Vs some of other accomodations so dark at night but overall Tortuguero is quite small and safe.
Helpful tip - we stayed 4 nights which was nice and relaxed but you could easily do pretty much everything in Tortuguero in a 2 night stay if you pack it all in eg boat tour am, hiking tour pm and night tour in 1 day then anything else like beech and seeing the hill (great views) the first day after arrival.
- Marisa (10/5): Cute little appartment with very helpful owner Oscar - very helpful owner - he helped us organizing our trip and booked tour and bus tickets for us.
spacious room
shared but very clean bathroom
personal pick up from the dock
- Clive (6/5): Pleasant -
- Teresa (9/5): Superb - Our stay was very comfortable. We liked having a kitchen available, especially in the morning. Oscar and family were very helpful in orienting us and helping us with activities. We appreciated that the location was close to the national park and not in the crowded part of town.
- Essi (10/5): Cute small guesthouse! - Small (only 3 rooms) and very clean place. Lot of space to hang/store your stuff. There is a nice lobby, kitchen with dishes and coffee, small backyard with hammocks. Our room had window with a glass and air conditioning, super!! We were let in to the room before check in -time. Location is good and staff comes to meet you in the pier, just let them know your schedules in advance. -
- Marie (9/5): Great value for money - We liked that it was just out of the centre but only a 5 min walk away. The place is spotlessly clean and has everything you need. Room a bit small but we knew that and there was a kitchen and outside seating front and back. we saw a hummingbird in the back. great value for money nothing
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ellen (10/5): Great stay at Natural Experience House! - Oscar is a great and super friendly host. At check in we even got a pipa fria. The room was clean and offered everything we needed during our stay. The bed was comfortable. Within a short walk you are at the marina, supermarket, entrance to the national park and beach. it was all perfect
- Llnda (9/5): Very welcoming - Everything was nice. The hotel is not easy to find because streets in Tortuguero don't have names and the hotel doesn't have a sign outside, but a guy was waiting for us at the port and showed us the way. Karen welcomed us with a fresh coconut that was delicious. The hotel looks more an Airbnb with rooms with private bathroom, a well furnished kitchenette with the essential to make your own coffee, and an indoor and outdoor shared relax area. Rooms have a/c and are very clean. The hotel is very closed to the main street and to the entrance to Tortuguero National Park. Oscar was very friendly and helpful. Just a minor thing: the drainage of the shower did not work very well
- Jasmin (10/5): Felt like home - This place felt like home. The owners were lovely and helped when I needed it. It was a very homely place and extremely clean. The space out the back of the property was great for eating breakfast. The Wi-Fi was good. The bathroom was nice and big and spacious too. I was picked up from the dock so I would know where I was going. Improvement point is maybe the room could do with some hooks on the back of the door for a rain jacket but that is so minor. I would highly recommend this place for anyone to stay. If you are solo travelling I would take into account location. The property isn’t far from town (3 minutes) but as a solo traveller I did have to walk back in the dark by myself. Absolutely fine if you are a couple or friends travelling. However I didn’t feel massively unsafe, just a little wary of my surroundings.
- Markus (10/5): Very nice place to stay - The place is a little off of the city center, so it's quiet and chill. Anyways, there's a supermarket just around the corner and everything in Tortuguero is walkable in 10 minutes anyways. The national park entrance is just around the corner as well.
The owners, Oscar and Karin are so welcoming. They even prepared a coconut for me to drink at my arrival.
The room was very clean and spacious, with a good working brand new aircon and a lot of space to put your clothes. The common arena in the backyard is very cozy.
- Nicole (8/5): Family trip with two little kids - We had a wonderful stay at Natural Experience House! Oscar and his family are super friendly and nice. Our accomodation was super clean and offered everything you need. Tortuguero is a nice village especially for backpackers.
