Guest Reviews
- Marcela (10/5): -
- Camilla Bruna (10/5): Everything was perfect! The cuisine was delicious, the organized tours were amazing, the place and people more than welc -
MUCHAS GRACIAS!

L'accueil. La sortie baleine... Ras
- Vanda (9/5): We love Playa Huina and the Refugio Mr Jerry. Just wished we had gone for longer! - A fantastic location - it was a wonderful experience to live simply, on the beach, in a charming small community. Adrian was very helpful in explaining how to get to the landing stage from the airport to catch a boat. He is a great cook and produced delicious meals. The Refugio has plenty of space for relaxing with numerous hammocks. We liked the ethos of saving water and being careful about rubbish. Nothing.
- Matthew (10/5): Gorgeous location and incredible staff - Gorgeous location and you were looked after the whole time. It felt like paradise and the staff were incredible and so accommodating. Highly recommend
- Janina (10/5): muchas gracias ❤️ - Adrian and Lina were lovely hosts. We fehlt Like being Home and just had a very great time. We recommend the Jungle hike with Adrian, which was nice but exhausting. he Had a great knowledge about the plants and animals around us. Our room was comfy and Clean and we were able to Here the sea. the food was excellent. we Hope to come Back one day ❤️
- Melissa (6/5): Pleasant - We enjoyed the food and location. I never received a notification or email of how to arrive to the hostel. I had to message and ask what I was supposed to do. The female administrator seemed bothered and never thanked us for coming or welcomed us with a smile. She immediately greeted my son and I with a list of "rules" that they have, instead of allowing us to feel welcomed. There is nothing wrong with rules but knowing how and when to present them is crucial. I had mentioned to the owners that I was leaving the following morning and needed a boat back to the Bahia. I was told that they would help me find a boat in the morning. It had been raining all night and morning, and I had everything ready at 7am waiting for the owner's assistance which never happened. I frantically walked up and down the beach for an hour in the rain, asking the locals and anyone I saw, including other hotels for some assistance. I noticed that there was a boat that left during that time directly next to the hostel, but I was on the other side of the beach. If I had been offered the support promised that would have been a viable option for me. I finally when back at 8am picked up my son and in the rain left with all of our belongings and still no administrators were seen. I was able to find a boat at 8:30 but made it late to the airport after doors were closed for the flight. This location is a REMOTE beach and helping guests ARRIVE and LEAVE should be a priority. No matter the situation rain or shine, there should be boats available at a cost and information provided daily for those that need to leave this location. The excuse that "boats are not included in the reservation" is irresponsible to the guests who travel to a remote beach to visit this location.
Also, was never told that the airport at the Bahia requires that you arrive TWO hours before, as if you were traveling internationally. This is CRUCIAL information that should be provided to guests to assist in the experience.
- Zuzanna (6/5): Nice place but it’s almost impossible to find transport and food. - One of the better facilities on Huina with spacious bathrooms. The room was very poorly ventilated and there was no line to hang clothes to dry anywhere in the hostel so our room got smelly after only one night.
Staff were inattentive and unhelpful with everything from organising transport to food to medicine and there aren’t any options to get those things without their help unless you’re coming with a large group.
- Heiko (10/5): Paradise on earth - Cant recommend this place enough! The tranquility and remoteness is unmatched. In front of the hostel is the beach, behind it is the jungle. You feel like youre the only tourists here and everyone is most welcoming! It still feels like a dream looking back.
It would be hard to find a more peaceful place in paradise, Ive tried in a lot of countries, but this one takes the cake!
I hope to return some time in my life Nothing
- Claudia (10/5): Paradise - The place is absolutely wonderful. An isolated paradise with few tourists and wonderful nature around. The place is well kept and clean. The mood is nice, staff is friendly, and the food is very good! The tours to see the whales, playa de los deseos and the jungle at night were very good! The tour to see Utría is very expensive and it’s just a walk of 40 min-1 hour, not worth it.
- Mousa (9/5): Superb - This is the perfect beach hostel from looks to location to amenities, hosts are very accommodating and have helpful recommendations Chickens of the hostel and the surrounding areas were a bit loud early in the morning
- Sara (10/5): Amazing experience! - It was an amazing experience, full immersion in the nature. You can only reach this gem by boat.
Waking up with the sound of the waves.
Fresh fish every meal.
We did various tours organised by the staff.
Adrian and Lina are wonderful, always ready to help and share their knowledge with us.
They organised for us the whale tour, we saw the whales and the dolphins as well, it was breathtaking.
There are 3 dogs and a beautiful cat in the hostal, super sweet.
- Francesca (9/5): Superb -
- Diana (9/5): Thank you for the whole experience I will keep it in my memory forever - The owner was so friendly and helpful
- Bes (10/5): Magico:) - an incredible place to enjoy everything around and relax.
- Matej (10/5): It is a journey to get there but worth it. - The beach is beautiful. During the weekend, there are local people celebrating life, during the week it is rather calm with the mighty ocean at your doorstep. Amazing food (if you eat fish)! The hike to Playa de los Deseos is worth the effort, huge, empty beach about 45 minutes walking through the jungle. If the electricity works, the internet is also pretty good. The locals burn plastic trash at the beach - but that's something outside of our control.
- Sara (10/5): A hidden gem of Colombia that shouldn’t be missed - The energy of the place as soon as you land on the beach infront of the hostel attracts you and you soon wish you could stay there longer than planned. Very clean facilities, very comfortable and homey place. Staff with big heart and in you can feel they put alot of love and effort in the hostel. Loved the tiny details that made the place feel like home. Delicious food and chef using fresh ingredients every day (fish in a million ways). Lots of hikes and activities to do around. Thanks Adrian and the team for this beautiful experience:) Nothing I didnt like
- Joe (9/5): Superb - Amazing location, accessible by boat from the town. Loved sitting in the hammocks and reading then going for a swim in the sea. The food was great, loved the fish at lunch. They also arranged a whale watching trip for us and we saw several humpbacks jumping - it was amazing!
- Lauren (5/5): Disappointing. The owner seemed to be struggling to be in the mood for guests although I liked him. - The space was clean and my private room was nicely decorated. The food was good and as varied as it could be given the isolated location. The owner was not able to coordinate with other hotel owners to coordinate activities. As I was not a part of a larger group, the tours would have been too expensive. We were a 20 minute boat ride from Bahía Solano but there were houses all around us on Playa Nuihi. I left 2 days early due to the lack of things to do.
- Cook (8/5): Very good - Adrian was a good host and the food was good. The hotel was located on the beach. At times, very loud music from nearby houses.
- Hatidzhe (10/5): Amazing place to relax. Would recommend! - Great location & view. Friendly hosts, delicious meals.
- Florian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pauline (9/5): Superb - The location of the hostel in front of the beach, the cleanness of the place, the services offered by the hostel, and the family environment created by Adrian and Lina.
Great hostel. Not much :) people just have to consider that there is a boat to take from the airport to the hostel to get there.
- Hugo (10/5): The best spot in Colombia - My favourite place in Colombia. The hostel is perfectly situated on a beautiful beach and run by Adrian and Lina who are very kind and always on hand to help. They offer trips to see the waterfalls, turtles and, most importantly, to go whale watching. The dorms are clean, comfortable and well presented. I'd recommend Mr Jerry to anyone wanting a glimpse of paradise.
- Cindy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - It’s a cosy and sociable hostel where it’s easy to meet other people.
We liked the communal dinners and the communal areas are lovely to hang out in.
The staff was very helpful in getting our activities booked while the internet was out in the entire area.
The beach is stunning as well and there’s great snorkeling. - The location was a bad pick for us: we were really looking for peace and quiet and were unaware playa Huina is the party beach for locals during the weekend: this meaning there was loud music all of the time. (Supposed to be a lot better during the week)
- We had a hard time sleeping in our room. The walls don’t reach the ceiling so lights anywhere are visible. The wooden floor moves quite a bit if anyone moves around. The bed was rather small for two people so our bodies kept touching the mousquito net and we were eaten alive.
- Michal (10/5): I could easily seeing myself living there - That place is a little piece of heaven on earth. My favourite spot in the whole-month worth travelling in Colombia so far! I cannot pick on anything.
- Niels (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed three nights and it was an amazing experience! The location is very remote and only accessable by boat. The owner organized that we were picked up from the airport. He is very nice and will ensure that your stay is great. The hostel is directly on the beach and is a great place to relax a couple of days. A lot of activiteit are organized if you don't feel like relaxing. The whale watching tour we did was incredible! There aren't really other restaurants so you eat 3 times a day at the hostel. They have their own cook and the food was really nice. Fresh fish for lunch and diner. Hoping I will get the chance te be back one day. Definitively recommend staying here!
- Katharina (10/5): Exceptional - Adrián is an amazing host and we had a wonderful time staying at Mr Jerry. It's a very nice hostal, with a lot of love to details, delicious food, very relaxed and amazing to spend a few days and unwind. Will come back!
- Aron (8/5): A beautiful and relaxing stay - Beautiful location and very friendly staff.
- Dana (4/5): Awesome location, very tired owners - The location of this place is absolutely fantastic as it's right on the beach, the food is also really really good. Not even sure where to start really, the owners act like they are miserable, burnt out and hate their job and in some passive aggressive way make you feel guilty for being on holiday. There's no actual glass on the windows so you have zero control over the elements, but I guess that's not even half as bad as the fact that they gatekeep the water so every time you have to shower you need to ask permission and then wait till someone actually switches on the pump. If they've happened to go to sleep (after 9pm) then good luck taking a shower, or washing your hands, or flushing a toilet for that matter unless you're willing to scoop water out of a barrel with a plastic cup - way better options in the area, do your research.
- Linus (3/5): Not enjoyable stay - The food was good and the beach is nice. We did not have the best time at Mr. Jerry Hostal. When arriving in Bahía solano we were kind of surprised that we had to find our way to the port and search for a boat that would transport us to the Huína beach. It seems kind of logical that the beach is only reachable by boat, but a tiny hint before would have been nice. When we arrived at the hostel, nobody knew who we are or which one would be our room, so we had to wait for 1 hour untill Mr. Jerry arrived. When we asked him about the lack of moskito-nets in the rooms ( which are promised on Booking) he told us that this is a healthy village and therefore there is no need for mosquito nets?
The food was quite delicious. Although, the portions are quite small. If you ask for more rice or bread because you are still hungry you get as an answer that the food is portioned and there is nothing more (We are still searching for the logic in same portion sizes for everyone regardless their age, gender or weight). The food is quite expensive (20’000 for Breakfast and 30’000 for both lunch and dinner). As the meals consist mostly of fish, rice and patacones, this seems rather expensive (in the village nearby you can get exactly the same for half the price). If you do not eat fish or are vegetarian, it will be quite difficult for you at this place. In the village there are not really other options to eat, therefore, you are really dependent on them cooking for you.
There are a couple of activities you can book. These are super expensive (we are travelling since 5 weeks in Colombia and never was anything that expensive). You can accompany Mr. Jerry fishing for 5 hours (300’000 p.P.) and then pay again for eating the fish you fished yourself, which we found quite strange. As well the other activities come in prices of 150’000+ for half a day. If you do not book any tours, there isn’t really a lot to do in Huína so there is the danger of getting bored quite fast.
The nights sadly are quite loud.
- Robert (10/5): a unique experience that I enjoyed immensely - it’s amazing, very much recommend.
- Silviobernegger (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly staff, serving great food from their own kitchen, they have a really good chef. The owner made the best out of my trip and gave me many recommendations and did also a whale watching tour. I felt personally appreciated to be there. There was no market place, therefore you have to pay a bigger amount for drinks and food. Was not too expensive but when you want to prepare some own food it is gonna be expensive.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - one of the nicest beach in the area nothinh
- Lina (10/5): Excelent! - Love the location and the staff! I recommend.
- Nnaranjoguevara (7/5): Good -
- James (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful beach. Wonderful whale watching trip. Nice food. Our room had a sea view. The rooms don't have windows. Sometimes other guests were making noise drinking or listening to music until 11pm when we went outside and asked them to turn it down. Also one night the next door property had very loud music until 10/10:30pm. Obviously this wasnt the fault of Mr Jerry hostal.
- Peter (5/5): Passable - Location
Whale watching Felt like even asking for a drink was a chore for the owner
Lack of water for showers, considering its the 3rd rainiest place in the world
Noise
