- Samuel (10/5): The dream way to start any trip to Japan. - Literal perfection. Like step backing in time. That I couldn’t stay longer because we had to keep travelling.
- Ayse Damla (8/5): Social hub that is cozy, homely and down to earth. - This is a hostel that doubles as a social hub, and that’s a good thing. Everything is communal, which creates a cozy, homely, and down-to-earth atmosphere. For solo travelers, it’s a great place to make meaningful connections, whether in the resting area or the lounge, where you can choose to eat together with other travelers. You can even get a warm, freshly made breakfast for a small fee, and there are washing machines available as well for a small fee. The hosts were very social, welcoming, and helpful. By the way, the place is genuinely beautiful, just like in the photos.
In terms of location, it’s situated in an area surrounded by sentōs (Japanese bathhouses), which is perfect for anyone wanting to experience that side of Japanese culture. If that’s not your thing, there are also private shower stalls available inside the hostel (for those who are wondering). It’s honestly hard to find anything negative to say. The only thing to keep in mind is that you are sharing a room with other travelers, so everyone has to be considerate of each other. For example, if you come back around 10 PM (which I personally think is still a reasonable time), some people may already be asleep. So if you need to grab something from your luggage, it can be difficult not to make any noise. It’s best to prepare the things you’ll need in advance.

- Benjamin (10/5): A traditional Japanese house with a 5-star service. - Being nested in a traditional neighborhood close to Iriya station as well as the over 100 year old building. The service by Kotaro and Arisa was outstanding.

- MelKath (10/5): - Simply love this place. It was my second time staying there and I'm definitely going to return. It's an old, cozy Japanese town house, centrally located in the middle of Tokyo. There are not many rooms so that it is usually really quiet, clean and the people are really nice. -/-

- Sara (10/5): - Everything :)

- Sritama (7/5): - It was affordable. The neighbourhood was nice. The beds were quite comfortable and big for a bunk bed. I was happy with the beds. The bathroom and the shower were clean everytime I used them. I think I underestimated the impact of my journey. I had a long flight of 14 hours to Japan. And then I reached this hostel. I haf to carry my suitcase two floors up. And then I had a upper bunk bed. So I was very tired. The bathroom and the shower were downstairs. Only when I was leaving the hostel I realised there was an attached bathroom next to my room, which I was not made aware of.
- Stella (10/5): My best hostel experience amongst many I've stayed in across many countries. - The property is beautiful, the location is accessible for transit and food, the staff were lovely, the privacy curtains around each bed were great, the amount of storage provided for each bed in addition to secure locker were great, the electrical outlet access was perfect, the shared areas were clean and well set up. It was all great, so there was nothing to change.

- Rocky (7/5): Good stay - The staff was great! Friendly, engaging, and warm. They made a point remember guest's names, and were sincere when asking guests about their day, adventures, or general conversation.
The beds were comfortable and you are provided bedding to stay warm, and a bath towel. They also have amenities like toothbrushes and more available.
Very clean! Staff does a good job of regular cleaning all areas; kitchen to toilets to showers, etc...no issues on cleanliness.
Good location!!! Right next to Iriya Station and within walking distance to several restaurants, konbini's, and more. Not on the Hostel/Hotel but more on the guests; people would come in after midnight and people would be loud with their luggages or hairdryer at 1 or 2am...yet I ended up with a note from the Staff saying that my Snoring was keeping people awake.
I did address this with the staff and they were apologetic saying it was a misunderstanding and that moving forward, they would talk to guests about quiet hours and they do provide earplugs.
- FDupont76140 (10/5): Amazing hostel in an old traditional house I'm Tokyo - Such a lovely hostel in Tokyo, located in a renovated traditional house. The location near Ueno station is top notch, with great recommendations of activities and restaurants shared by the staff, who's absolutely lovely. The place is super clean, the kitchen is well equipped, the bed are comfy, all great ! Be sure to take the delicious breakfast and to have a drink at the bar ! Really a gem in Tokyo ! If you are staying in the mixed dorm, beware that you will hear all the noises from the corridor as it is separated by wooden panels, that's something to take into account if you are a light sleeper. But if you are staying in the female dorm, you will sleep like a baby !
- Luke (9/5): Do not skip out on Ueno or this hostel - Honestly a great hostel with lots to offer outside of its location. Good space in the room even with a mixed dorm, privacy with curtains, perpetrated plugs, lockers and lots of bed space for suitcases was a bonus. Solid bar and a very tasty breakfast that shouldn't be missed. Lovely staff. Surprisingly expensive all things considered, breakfast and laundry are not included.

- Clarisse (10/5): - Traditional Japanese style, beautiful garden, very nic and friendly staff

- Alisa (10/5): Guesthouse Toco is the perfect place to land in Tokyo, it feels like home! - I loved the Japanese wooden style housing. I appreciated the slippers in all the bathrooms and when you entered the dorms. I loved the kind and welcoming staff and the free drink at the bar! The location was nice, much less overwhelming than central Tokyo. It felt nice being close to Shinto shrines, it’s a good vibe. I loved the sentos in the area as well! This is a wonderful place to stay, I highly recommend it!! Nothing bad to say about it, it’s absolutely lovely!
- Waisze (9/5): - I met nice people in this guesthouse. Staff is very friendly. Nope
- Joey (8/5): -
- Shiao Han (8/5): Decent stay in an old house - It has a pretty garden and it’s quite a unique stay. Nothing I disliked particularly.
- Jennifer (8/5): Cozy quiet stay in Tokyo with friendly atmosphere. - Lovely building, cozy interior. Liked the little sitting area in the shared room.Staff were friendly and helpful. Pretty close to a station. Complimentary drink in the bar was a nice welcome. Not sure if this was mentioned in property description but there is a staircase to some of the shared rooms so it is a bit of a workout to get a full suitcase up there! Other than that, it was great!
- Cenap (10/5): -
- Ratna (9/5): Fabulous! - Traditional style, beautifully maintained Slightly musty smell at the head end of upper bunk in mixed dorm otherwise perfect stay!

- HYOJIN (9/5): -
- Louis (10/5): - The staff, the facilities, all of it was exceptional.
- Craig (8/5): A unique experience, a great location, and the friendliest staff - The building itself is really cool, it’s all wood and built in a traditional Japanese style. The garden was beautiful. The staff were all really lovely and smiley, and spoke good English which was helpful. The location for me was amazing, not right in the center of Tokyo but in a quiet neighbourhood with lots of cafes and bakeries nearby. The wooden building is a bit of a nightmare design in a hostel 😅 the floorboards creak loudly with the softest steps (which I love, but not when people are returning in the early hours of the morning), the curtains around the beds were Not very effective, and my bed was at the front of the room which meant that everyone walking down the corridor could see straight into my bed and me sleeping. Also the door frames were very low (being in a traditional Japanese home) and the amount of times myself and others hit our heads was quite funny 😂. Also two of the guests in my room was extremely rude, but that’s no fault of the property itself

- Mattan (10/5): Friendly, beautiful and hostel at a great location. - Location is very convenient (a subway station and JR station, each 5 minute walk),
All the staff were helpful, and friendly, making you feel welcome in the hostel.
The place itself is absolutely gorgeous, the interior, the inner garden. It feels more like a ryokan than a simple hostel.
The place was clean - the beds, showers, restroom, everything.
I had a very good time!

Le check-in à 16h. C’est tard quand on arrive tôt à Tokyo.
- Jeanine (10/5): Loved the vibe here!! 😍 - Superb accoms!!! The staff really made an effort to engage you in conversations and they even had a bar where you could mingle with other travelers over a drink or two! 🥰 Bed was also really comfortable and toilets were very clean! 💯 Would not hesitate to come back the next time I’m in Tokyo! None

- Rita (10/5): Loved it - The room was beautiful. The showers were amazing, with lots of space to put your clothes and toiletries and a hairdryer. N/a
- Linh (10/5): - The host and staf are super friendly and helpful. The Guesthouse also offer welcome drinks every night, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
I stayed here on New Year’s Eve, and they had a small countdown get-together where you could pay 1,000 yen for soba and a premium sake with gold flakes.
I was about to go to bed when I heard drumming outside—turned out a nearby shrine was having a ceremony. I went over at midnight and got to experience a traditional Japanese New Year celebration with people visiting the shrine, drinking warm rice alcohol, and watching ceremonial items being burned. Such a cool and unexpected experience!
There is a very nice bakery nearby called Gouter Le Ble that you should try.
