Guest Reviews
- Malini (10/5): Charming Houseboat Haven in Amsterdam Noord - Casa de Karen is an ADORABLE getaway in the NDSM neighborhood of Amsterdam Noord. everything is perfect - from the relaxing Buddhist style meditation lounge on the attached deck, to the delft blue tiled bathroom with AMAZING water pressure and hot water. Karen herself is delightful and very accessible, as are the lovely neighbors. WiFi is solid, there's Netflix on the TV in case you get a rare rainy day and wind up stuck inside (or decide to just chill out after a long day enjoying Amsterdam's many delights), and the loft is easy to climb up to leading to a comfy bed. The houseboat is also a very short walk (even shorter if you take one of the bikes Karen makes available) to the Straat Museum and the NDSM Ferry Pier that runs a very regular (and free) ferry directly into Centraal Station. A tosti and a fifteen minute cruise down the River IJ to the bustle of Amsterdam Centraal is a fantastic way to kick off your day of sightseeing.
- Maximilian (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! Great host, great studio.
- Hermely (10/5): Memorable - Everything is perfect.. you will be greeted with amazing exterior and very accommodating host,Karen. Very cozy and aesthetic interior down to the balcony, mini kitchen are equipped with coffee machine, microwave, fridge, water heater.. complimentary coffee, tea, snacks etc. This is one local experience you’ll need to try! N/A
- Ylva (10/5): Exceptional - Very charming and unique, would absolutely recommend! Would definitely like to stay there again if we go back to Amsterdam
- Barton (9/5): Quirky accommodation in a quiet area but good access to great facilities and a lovely host - Great location to lovely restaurants & bars
The accommodation was lovely with a great outdoor seating area
Karen was very welcoming & helpful Can’t think of anything
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely loved at stay here! Karen is an exceptional host, made us feel very welcomed and greeted us on our first day to show how everything works to ensure we had a comfortable stay.
The free bikes made it very easy to get into the centre of town.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking for accommodation in Amsterdam!
- Veronica (10/5): Very pretty house boat near NDSM - The location was perfect in an interesting area very close to NDSM. Lots of restaurants, bars nearby. Very close to a free ferry to Amsterdam Central. Very close to canals, parks for cycling around. Our host Karen was very friendly, helpful and accessible. 2 bikes were included which was a huge bonus. The decor was beautiful. The patio was fabulous. There were cokes and water in the fridge, teas, coffee, granola etc. The bedroom was accessed by a ladder so this accommodation is not for nervous people or people who are not agile. Otherwise no complaints.
- Nick (9/5): Quaint and pleasant and quiet. Very much enjoyed staying - Lots of effort to make me feel at home and welcomed. Great use of the free bike too and could take the ferry to Centraal quickly too. Not much to mention. I recommended a couple of small fixable things to improve the experience.
- Frank (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place and amazing owner/host. Karen is an incredibly kind and welcoming person who will ensure you are accommodated. This is a peaceful stay and the location is amazing. It’s an easy 10 minute walk to the free ferry which will take you to the heart of Amsterdam central. Don’t bother paying for ridiculously expensive hotels in the city centre when you can stay here for half the price.
- Felicia (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous property, in a great location. We loved using the bikes to cycle around the city and through the Waterland villages. Karen was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome.
- Dari (10/5): Enjoyed our time staying here while in Amsterdam. - Loved the decor, spending time on the patio, and the little things the owner did to make the stay special. There was a loud, recurring noise on the outside porch area where the houseboat and patio area connected. The two sections kept rubbing together.
- Wan (10/5): Karen is a wonderful host I recommend to stay with Karen for your Amsterdam trip - The house boat has all the wonderful personal touch Karen the owner plan for the guest. Detail as shopping bags and umbrella which cover all weather condition and needs for the stay. It took me a while to get off the bed on the first morning, due to the height. but I have no problem in the following night.
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay with lots of lovely extra touches to make your stay feel that little bit more special. Karen the owner was so welcoming and very helpful and made our stay very pleasant.
Can't recommend enough. Nothing to complain about. Everything was great
- Louise (10/5): A great little nest - Adorable and cozy room..sleeping loft very easy to get up to. Had everything u would need for a short stay.. bathroom spotless and water HOT. The boat was close to road but we never really heard any noise. Came with electric kettle..perfection for a rainy day. Bus was only a short walk to the Metro line 52 or you could walk to the free ferry across to Amsterdam central.
The weather only allowed us to use the patio the first day; it's very cute. Really nothing..it felt a wee bit cold one day however the wind and rain coming in horizontal so that's to be expected on a boat .
- Grégoire (10/5): Amazing floating house with an extremely nice guest. - Nice location, lovely accomodation. Very available host who went the extra mile to make us feel at home, and made herself available if we needed anything. Also, free bikes !
- Nikki (10/5): A perfect little oasis right outside busy Amsterdam! - I loved the quirkiness and cosiness of the boat house. The outdoor terrace was great to sit out on too. There was a TV with Netflix, board games and Karen even treated us with a few beers and snacks! To top it all off, Karen gave us two Dutch bikes to use during our stay, we were delighted with this! I can’t fault Karen’s boat house. There is nothing we didn’t like!
- Mieke (10/5): Wonderful authentic Dutch house boat stay - It’s such a lovely quirky place to stay. The design is fantastic, real attention to detail and it was sparkly clean. The bikes are great to get around with and there’s lots of cool restaurants and bars around.
Karen is a wonderful host, very caring and knowledgeable about the area.
It was unfortunately a bit to chilly to sit on the waterfront terrace so we might have to come back for that!
- Ceri (9/5): Superb - Karen is absolutely lovely and very considerate, host! The free ferry into AMS Central was really convenient from NDSM - the northern part of AMS is a very cool neighbourhood where the boat house is located - with lots of eateries, art exhibitions and bars too chill having cocktails 🍸 N/A
- Dominique (10/5): Comfortable, welcoming and away from the hussle and bussle of the city - Quirky and well set out and the host’s, Karen, attention to detail to ensure our comfort was outstanding. While Amsterdam Centraal was a short free ferry ride across, a healthy 15mins walk to the wharf was required.
- Anderson (10/5): Amaaaaazing! If I could stay here again! Definitely I will! - Everything ! The place is super quite, private, comfy, and full of everything you would need! The host was super kind and supportive, super available to resolve all your needs or questions!
- Christie (10/5): A gorgeous houseboat in a lovely neighbourhood. - It was absolutely gorgeous, really peaceful and super comfortable. The host was so lovely, and even left extra drinks and snacks for us, which was really sweet. The other people living nearby were also really friendly – one of them even lent us a bike when the one that came with the houseboat was too tall for me! Nothing!
- Catherine (10/5): Awesome! - Karen was kind and accommodating!!
- Luke (8/5): A great, secluded spot for couples in Amsterdam who want to experience the city in a unique way. - Great little spot in North Amsterdam, away from the business of the city but just a short ferry journey away. The area itself is very trendy. Host was great with providing little touches to make us feel welcome and at home in her property. The best part of the property is easily the terrace, very picturesque view of the houseboat village.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely outstanding! We loved everything from the property to the location and more than anything the amazing owner ! The owner is very kind and thoughtful. The studio is new, clean, with lots of amenities . Bicycles are available to visit Amsterdam, and the ferry is couple of minutes away to lead right into town. Probably one of the best places we’ve ever stayed at. Nothing, we loved everything!
- Chloe (10/5): Perfect comfortable, stylish retreat, still close to amenities - Beautiful place, proper home away from home. Very relaxing and quiet to get away from the noise of the city, especially out on the balcony. Really special and clever design and layout. Great shower!
Karen had thought of everything, lots of little extras and great to have the bikes too for getting about. Ferry is really easy to navigate and great range of bars and restaurants and cafes close by. Karen has left lots of useful information about the local area and recommendations.
Recommend cycling out to the wetlands at Twiste, very close by and really beautiful and quiet. Was perfect
- Sashka (10/5): Exceptional - The place is perfect. 10-15 min. away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The garden was a little peace of heaven. The host was amazing and lovely, very welcoming and full of tips to make your trip even easier and more enjoyable.
All the rooms are exactly like in the photos. Would highly recommend.
- Kathrin (10/5): Perfect in every way! -
- Twiggy (9/5): Charming place and amazing host - Karen is a super host! Her attention to detail and the love and care she puts into hosting is obvious, she simply makes you feel at home! The area is far from the center, hip and very authentic. So it's definitely worth discovering. The house itself is very charming. The space is a bit smaller than the photos show, and the deck is a bit claustrophobic as the view on the water is blocked by other houseboats.
- Gina (9/5): Very sweet place with a very hospitable owner - Cute houseboat apartment w sleeping loft. I love thé decor and the owner is super friendly and accessible. The bikes we could use were very nice and looked newer. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to use them. The loft could be tricky to get up to if someone has limited mobility or fear of heights. The place could use a good high dusting.
- Tina (10/5): Nice Stay and awsome Experience - Very very nice place decorated with heart and soul. Karen explaind us everything, wished us warm welcome, took a photo for collection.
Boathouse is real boathouse near NDSM (north Amsterdam): 10 min by foot/3 by bike and then free ferry to Amsterdam central.
Very clean. Tea, cookies, muesli for guests.
To borrow: bikes (very practical), books (city guides, novelsin different languages), umbrellas (we needed it), shoping bag.
Bed is upstairs so You have to be careful. Boathouse have terrace with view at other boathouses, swans, ducks, if you’re Lucky.
If You want You can take bike ride to Buiksloterweg (ferry station-max 10 min) and then cross by ferry to Amsterdam central.
The nearest grocery is at NDSM (ferry station). Thank You Karen :) Hope to be back soon
- Anna (10/5): Unique experience - Unique Amstardam experience of sleeping on the houseboat with „Balinese vibes“. Place has been created with love and absolute care about every single detail. Location is great, close to industrial part of North Amsterdam with nice venues and restaurants, which are not so crowded as historical touristic city center. Totally recommend for solo traveler or couples.
- Katherine (10/5): The property owner’s hospitality and the space could not have been better! - The property was quiet and relaxing while being close enough to easily access anything you may want to do! The ladder to the loft was steep but I live in a one-story so I am not used to stairs first thing in the morning.
- Ciaran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dominik (9/5): Lovely stay, strongly recommend if you are looking for a complete Dutch experience. - The boat is lovely and so beautifully decorated that it literally takes your breath away. The host was super nice, I mean super super nice, from start to finish. Fantastic Dutch experience. It is not that we did not love it because it comes as a package of sorts when you are renting a houseboat, but the boat's neighborhood is not particularly beautiful. Still, it is very quiet and calm.
- Brian (9/5): Quirky stay. - Location was fantastic. Quirky furnishings. Welcoming host. Bikes and ferry made moving around easy, the area is becoming more fashionable with great eateries close by. Stairs to the loft bed got a little exciting at times.
- Carlos (10/5): Exceptional - The owner of the apartment has incredible attention and and has made us feel at home from minute 1. We have been great in the apartment, it is super cozy, a very quiet area and only 10 minutes from the central station. 100% recommendable. ITS FANTASTIC!!!
- Agnese (10/5): Great place to relax after a busy day of touristing :) - The place is great! Since we were traveling in the spring, it was a great place to hide and take a break from all the masses of tourists in the city center. The studio had everything we needed (starting from cofee machine, cozy couch and ending with mini library) and was quiet and cozy. Love all the details that the hostess had thought about. It was cute to read all the little messages and clues left all over the studio in case we dont know how to operate something. One of the biggest impressions was left by the book, that the hostess had written with all kind of suggestons what there is to see an do on that side of river. At first it was a little bit intimidating to think how we will be able to commute to the accomodation, however in the end there was no need to worry. The transportation in Amsterdam is great and it took no time to get from the center to the accomodations :)
- Steve (9/5): Great stay on a lovely houseboat in a great location with a charming host. - The location was in the hip North of Amsterdam which was a great place to stay and reached by a regular free ferry from the Central Station. There were lots of nice cafes and restaurants nearby and an excellent bakery Brood. Karen our host was very friendly and helpful and took some nice photos of us which she printed and gave us on the last day. The houseboat had some lovely Indonesian wooden screens and doors and the bed was very comfortable. Overall we had a great stay at the houseboat. We liked everything. Maybe should mention the ladder to the bedroom is steep and the ceiling of the bedroom very low. It wasn’t a problem for us at all but might be for someone very tall or not very agile.
- Emma (10/5): A fantastic and unique place to stay in Amsterdam - Very comfortable and quirky. Loved having my breakfast on the terrace - so peaceful. Owner was very helpful and pleasant. It was very easy to get the free ferry - so soon as you step out of central station. Goes every 15 minutes. Very convenient to see the sights of Amsterdam and also the Noord area as well, the street art museum was breathtaking. Maybe more detailed instructions on how to get there from the ferry. I know you can Google it but it’s nice to have local instructions as well.
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Myself and my partner visited this amazing property for 4 nights. I have never stayed in anywhere so lovely and cute. Karen is amazing and her houseboat is beautiful. She has thought of everything you could possibly need and the attention to detail is amazing. It is very ideally located, close to the free ferry that brings you to the centre. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend to a couple looking for a relaxed and unique stay in Amsterdam. Absolutely nothing! it was perfect :)
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional - More than perfect !
- Alix (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing time in the Houseboat studio ! The house is really beautiful and functional.
Also, thank you so much for all the special care during our trip ! Nothing. Everything was perfect.
- Phillips (10/5): perfection - everything. beautiful space, wonderful touches and an amazing host
- Pannie (9/5): Great little find in Amsterdam Noord: - Lovely, cosy property. Karen is warm and welcoming and makes sure you know all about the hidden gems of the property as well as the local area. Perfect for a quiet getaway and a great base to explore Amsterdam and the Noord. Thank you Karen for a lovely stay. The ladder to the sleeping area could be tricky for some guests.
- Francesca (9/5): Superb -
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Great! - Karen's place is amazing, it's very comfortable and cozy. It's a great quiet and relaxing base for exploring Amsterdam. The bikes are a big plus for exploring the city and the noord (which is a cool area). Karen is friendly and she takes care of every detail for making your stay as good as possible. Would stay again for sure!
- Davis (9/5): Superb - Karen was so kind & generous. Everything was perfectly ready and she greeted us with a big smile and a tour of the place.
She was kind enough to leave all the best things for your first day and morning!
Coffee, teas, etc various snacks, even 2 eggs for the cutest hard boil egg cooker!
Even left a few Heinekens for us! 2 cokes!
Was our first trip to Amsterdam and a very special one thanks to our accommodations.
Thank you!
- Joshua (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay, really recommend it especially for a couple. - Lovely host who looked after us very well. Studio was extremely clean and tidy - and we were kept warm in the winter with good heating. Bikes were available for use and a free ferry near by that goes to the city centre very regularly. There is several nice restaurants within 10 minute walk as well as a bakery and supermarket.
- Anonymous (10/5): We loved the quiet location to return to after a busy day in the city. There’s a free ferry 10 mins away and two bikes t - Karen is a wonderful host… we loved our stay in Amsterdam. Nothing
- Luke (9/5): Lovely Studio Room - Very aesthetic, Karen was lovely. Well furnished with TV, coffee maker, kettle, milk etc. Nice couples retreat. Very little, lovely place, but also priced keenly.
If being heavily pedantic, would benefit from slightly brighter lights downstairs.
- Marek (10/5): So many pleasant surprises! - Wow! Incredibly friendly owner made us feel truly welcome. I cannot imagine better experience. The place is truly unique and decorated with love. Such a cosy little place 😍 Nothing we didn't know when we were booking it.
- Martina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gui (10/5): Stay like the locals, get the best of Amsterdam! - Master Host. Karen is the very definition of Master Host. She is absolutely adorable and perfect. She personally checked us in, she fed us with so much information about the surroundings and how to move around. We felt really pampered with the small treats, coffee. We had always wanted to have a "boat house" experience in Amsterdam but we really fell in love with it all. The houseboat is super well located in the NDSM, not far from the (free) ferry, and we biked a lot! The neighborhood is very typical and peaceful, and as days go by you start discovering wonderful gardens and parks in the area. We had groups of swam and duck to say "good morning" to while we had breakfast. The space is flawless, from decoration to cleanness, everything is so well taken care of in all details. WE WILL BE BACK for sure! Spending day/evening in busy Amsterdam (Center and South) and coming to the houseboat on the North to spend a serene, restoring night sleep... it really gave us the perfect balance and the best experience. We loved everything. Free bikes for the whole day, included in the stay... made it all even more remarkable.
- Gui (10/5): Live like the locals, discover the amazing North of Amsterdam! - Master Host. Karen is the very definition of Master Host. She is absolutely adorable and perfect. - Rebecca (10/5): Amazing stay - Great accommodation! Nice neighborhood and very kind host.
- Shivani (10/5): Paradise - What a find this was. Karen is hands down the best host I have ever come across and this property is unique to say the least. She continued to surprise us throughout our stay and even offered us her boat to take to the canal. I will fondly remember having breakfast on the boat deck, the sounds of birds and Karen’s warmth. Won’t be able to stay anywhere else in Amsterdam this experience. I should add, my partner struggles to sleep in new places and he slept like a baby at Karen’s. Nothing to not like. Be mindful that the sleeping area is up a sturdy ladder but other than that I have nothing to point out.
- Monika (10/5): amazing stay ☺️😌 - amazing furniture, extraordinary location (this part of Amsterdam is awesome hipster and full of freedom) and hospitality of Karen. Havent experience such hospitality 😌 there is nothing I didnt like 😌
- Hanna (10/5): The best place in Amsterdam for us. Unforgettable adventure and magical hospitable Karen! We are already dreaming of vis - Everything is absolutely perfect!
