Guest Reviews
- Trizzino (10/5): A wonderful Amsterdam experience! - The location was absolutely perfect. The bed was out of this world comfortable. And the overall experience of being on a houseboat was the perfect way to experience Amsterdam. It did feel a little bit stuffy. Maybe the air circulation could have been better.
- Madeleine (10/5): Heerlijk - Super locatie, midden in het centrum en toch rustig, heerlijk bed, kleine kitchenette, alles heerlijk schoon, vriendelijke ontvangst Niets
- Dan (8/5): - Clean and tidy fantastic location Bathroom was very small very steep stairs into the boat
- Luke (6/5): - Great location, amazing to be on the river. Due to not being a hotel no cleaning during the stay and some products were not full. Great checking in early but could not leave bags before going to airport following day; which impacted plans.
- Nadine (10/5): Traumhaft -
- Madeleine (10/5): A fabulous experience in the centre of Amsterdam -
- Nic (10/5): Perfect 2 night stay in excellent central location. - Location excellent
Comfortable
Cosy
Quirky stay Nothing
Alles bestens.
- Raquel (9/5): Dreamy Floating Room Stay - The view from the houseboat is ideal. I enjoyed the sound of the water and made a few duck friends in the morning who came up to the window to say hello. The mattress, duvet, and pillows were very comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with basics if you want to heat or cook food. Enjoyed the candies left in a dish on the table...nice detail. Lighting is well taken care of. The size of the room is enough for one or two people only. The narrow steps to go up into the bed may be hard for someone with mobility issues so this room may not be for you. The location is perfect for walks and exploring canals. I loved the greens and flowers growing on the roof of the boathouse. The host is attentive and helpful during communications for entering your room. I stayed in the Prince room. I will mention what someone else has said in relation to the second step to go down into the entrance door. It needs to be repair to avoid further damage. The body soap and shampoo dispenser need to be replaced with a better one as hard to manage when low. Mine were not refilled so couldn't get the small amount of liquid left out. Please provide more than one tea bag and three sugar packets...I had some tea bags with me but someone else may not. Shower on the small side so if you're a larger person may be hard to move around.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Super ligging, keurige kamer!
- Karen (8/5): We enjoyed ourselves and the owner was very responsive - Location The step going into property needs to be prepared; it’s dangerous
- Nicole (8/5): -
- Lucian (10/5): Cozy little place that is perfect for getting right out into center city. - Amazing location. It’s in a house boat!
- Michael (10/5): Outstanding property and host was incredibly easy to deal with. - The property was amazing, great location, lots nearby, very close to tram station for easy access to and from Centraal station. And the views from the houseboat are great. If I had to give a negative it would the shower. Just a little small as I prefer more space. But it’s to be expected when you book somewhere like this.
- Amy (8/5): Great property; however, the caretaker could use some training in customer service. - Extremely unique experience that we enjoyed. The houseboat caretaker was extremely nasty upon our arrival. I put on our reservation that our flight would arrive at 6am. Not to mention, the booking came w/ transportation, so obviously we would be going straight to the houseboat to place our luggage there. When we arrived to the houseboat at 7am, the caretaker was extremely rude because we "woke him up". I am not sure why it came as such a surprise based on our reservation. Having been up for 20+ hours and just getting off of our transatlantic flight, I did not take kindly to his attitude. He reluctantly took our luggage and told us we would need to find something to do because he needed to clean the rooms. We saw the individuals leaving that were there before us (so they left at 7am). Unfortunately, we didn't get into the room until noon (I seriously doubt it took 5 hours to clean that small space). Not to mention, it was only 42 degrees outside, we had no where to go, and nothing was open until 8:30am. Luckily, we had blankets from the airplane b/c we had to sit outside freezing for an hour and a half, until a cafe opened. It was definitely a rough start to an otherwise wonderful trip.
- David (7/5): Delightful and relaxing stay on the canal. - Location had plenty of restaurants and parks nearby. A good walk or easy tram ride to the heart of the city. Try the salon across the road - got a relaxing massage there! The bed is very high and requires a bit of skill to get out of in the middle of the night. One of the steps coming down to the front door felt like it was going to give in if I put pressure on it.
- Levick (10/5): Exceptional - Great experience staying on Houseboat Sophia. From pre-arrival communication, through to arrival and departure, Lex was a great host. Really comfortable space, perfect little kitchenette, and amazing bed.
- Jodie (9/5): Superb -
- Defever (8/5): Great unique room in houseboat for 2 nights in Amsterdam - Great location, unique experience, comfortable bed, relatively quiet No TV, uncomfortable shower
- Barry (9/5): Superb -
- Jaimie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ahmad (10/5): A great stay on the water in Amsterdam! - A great stay, clean and cozy room on the water with a nice view!
- Daniela (7/5): Wonderful location, great weather, beautiful city. - Loved the location! It was wonderful to see the ducks, swans, and passing boats. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we could get anywhere with ease.
I would recommend a little curtain or something around the bed to block the sun. Although it was nice to wake up to the natural light! It could’ve been cleaner. The bathroom’s cleanliness was concerning; the shower curtain had begun to mold and the towels had a distinct musty smell. The dark colors of the towels, curtain, and shower also made the cleanliness a mystery. Additionally, the shower wasn’t draining well so there would always be a puddle which made it a bit unpleasant to shower. However , these are things that can be fixed in a pinch. We enjoyed our stay regardless but would’ve wished for some extra cleanliness considering the value.
- Dianne (10/5): Wonderful location - very special experience - Wonderful location with all the facilities I could need Nothing
- Sophie-eva (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location and views
- Prudence (8/5): Good place to stay in Amsterdam! - Good value. Cramped but that was to be expected.
- Daniel (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay on Houseboat Sophia. Thanks - It was very central and quiet. We loved being on the water. A directory about the neighbourhood eg places to eat, supermarkets , where to do laundry and wifi information in the boat. All of these would have been greatly appreciated.
- Dawn (8/5): Beautiful location - Central location in a beautiful setting. The owner is always contactable and extremely helpful. Walkable to all main attractions, bars, and restaurants. Very small, and the bed was on a raised platform where draws under the bed were the only storage for clothes. There was nowhere to hang clothes.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ellen (9/5): Cute experience great location. - Amazing location. Great host. Easy check in. Close to tram. Wonderful experience
- Janice (9/5): Superb - Great location, super clean, helpful owner. We were surprised how comfy it was even though it's a relatively small space -- very well designed layout!
- Urban (9/5): Superb - Great location
Friendly and helpful owner
Nice view over the canal from the big sliding windows -
- Ellen (10/5): Would definitely recommend, had an excellent weekend - Location was great, air conditioning worked brilliantly, lovely facilities Nothing
- Collin (9/5): All in all, highly recommend it if you're looking for something unique, clean and quiet. - We had both rooms on this houseboat and highly recommend a stay. It is a unique accommodation and something typical for Amsterdam.
The rooms are clean and well appointed. Everything you need is there. You can even get some simple breakfast items from The Albert Hein grocery store around the corner, and use the fridge and a coffee maker and tea to have a basic breakfast on the water. It is very nice.
Beds are comfortable, bathroom is clean, towels provided, locks and key work well (very safe). The host lives on the other half of the boat, or so we think, so he is close if needed.
The host communicated well up front and during our stay. He is strict with the many rules that there are, including the ones posted on little labels in the rooms. But this strictness also ensures you have a quiet and good stay. Late checkout was not possible, not even half an hour. The only downside is that although the air conditioning itself is very quiet, the pump which removes the moisture from it, is very noisy and woke us up during the night in each room. It goes off every few minutes and it's noisy. In all practicality it was not possible to have the AC on during the night.
- Poh (7/5): Same price as a hotel room but it's an interesting experience! - Good location - the tram stop is just one minute away and the street is not noisy so my stay was overall pleasant. The owner was nice to leave sweets and some books about Netherlands in the room. Comfortable bed. The few small steps at the entrance can be a bit tricky when moving luggage.
- Mirella (10/5): Exceptional - The location was amazing and being so close to the water was such a great experience. We loved the tour groups going by and us giving them a wave when we were in the room, but I imagine some people wouldn't enjoy that and it might be worth highlighting that more. We really enjoyed that aspect though.
- Alessandro (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent Location
Charming feelings of the room
- Elisa (3/5): Overpriced with a confrontational host - The bed was comfortable. The location was walking distance to great restaurants and public transportation. Host was rude and immediately confrontational when they couldn’t immediately find the key (we left it on the counter as the instructions were not clear). Other communications from host during the stay were similar.
We paid ~270 euro a night but felt this was far overpriced for the stay. The host had not restocked the shampoo and body wash dispensers which were completely out. There was a sign stating that using additional towels beyond the 2 provided would result in an additional fee. There was no bathroom mirror on the wall, only a small freestanding one. Bathroom door was broken although there was a sign stating that a repair was planned.
- William (8/5): Very good -
- Fiona (7/5): Good - Location No milk for coffee or biscuits or snacks. No shower gel. For the price I felt there were no extras to make it feel really special
