Not a value for the price offered… but its better than shared room
First two nights I didn’t have a way to turn on the ceiling fan..
- Safa (7/5): Good place - Good space and clean. The location is great and we could walk almost everywhere The neighborhood is extremely loud at night, you could here everything

- Marco (7/5): Great location and clean - Locations and clean Really noisy I guess that is because the location, moldy smell and the shower head not staying up
- Jisoo (9/5): Good price good location. - It is located in gothic city, direct next to the Reial Square. So sometimes it’s a little bit loud, for me it was okay. I got a room with balcony, the view was nothing with a wall of next building. But you can enjoy there chips and beer (oder Jamon and Wein). The Fan on the ceiling operate really well. And the bed was also comfortable.
In the room there is a sink. It was so practical.
There’s clean water to drink and free coffee and muffins, that everyone can take freely. It was awesome. During my visit, the front door of this hotel was in construction. But I had no problem with staying and there’s no noise actually. Just seemed not pretty. Haha. There’s only one bathroom for shower. I‘ve never waited for it luckily, however someone should do maybe. There was conditioner for shower, if your hair is however not that soft like me, it might be better, wenn you bring your own. 😂

- Chao Heng (8/5): Friendly host , worth the money (for a short stay) . - The host was very kind and proactive ! Space is a little tight , but for one night stay over it is fine .

Ottimo sistema di check in e out.
- Daniela (7/5): - Zentrale Lage..Saubere Unterkunft Dusche viel zu klein. Wenig Warmwasser.

- Barut (8/5): good and comfortable - comfortable room with a lovely balcony city tax they wanted me to pay was expensive
- Andjela (10/5): Perfect 10/10 - Everything was amazing... the location, the apartment, and so so clean!! Amazing 10/10.
I was with my sister and we walker everywhere, the most beatifil streets and quart. Everything was perfect. Just heads up no elevator, was little hard with big luggage
- Alina (7/5): Top Location - We enjoyed our stay here. The location is unbeatable, you can walk pretty much everywhere. The room was clean, with a sink inside and a cute little balcony. The ceiling fan worked well, and we got fresh towels every day. Even though the bathroom and shower were shared, we never had any issues. The staff is friendly and provided great customer service. Overall, really good value for the price. A few things to keep in mind:
As it’s an older building, there’s no soundproofing, so I highly suggest guests bringing earplugs. Barcelona is a lively city, especially at night, expect some street noise and chatter.
The entrance currently smells, but they’re in the process of renovating, so that should improve soon. One small suggestion: it would be helpful to add a little “Calma House” sign next to the door inside where you enter the code. It’s not immediately clear which door to use, and we saw other guests confused too, as it looks like a residential entrance.
- Ion (9/5): Perfect Location - Perfect Location Perfect for short term
- Joanne (8/5): Decent budget accomodation- upgrades seem to be in the works - I'm going to give a detailed review because I don't feel this property deserves the bad reviews it has. Do not book here if you are expecting a hotel experience. However, for budget accommodation, we were very happy. By Barcelona's prices, this spot is very affordable, and it's location is amazing. A few reviews mentioned it being in a scary alley. I was quite apprehensive at first, but felt very safe at all times. The alley where you access the accomodation is small and a bit dirty -like many streets in the Gothic Quarter- but we felt very safe. We took a 5am taxi to the airport and didn't feel unsafe at all wheeling our bags around in the well lit, busy area.
It is clear that the owners of Calma House are putting in effort to upgrade. The rooms look modern and recently redone. They're small but comfortable. There is no aircon but a good ceiling fan. The bathrooms were also nice and modern and seem fairly new. The rooms were cleaned each day.
The rooms take up the second floor of an apartment building. The entrance of the building is a bit dilapidated but the ceilings were being repainted and it seemed like work was actively being done to upgrade the space while we were there.
There was some noise from other guests and residents in the building - but I suspect that you'd find that anyway in busy Barcelona unless you're willing to pay for a more expensive hotel with soundproofing.
Overall, for the price we paid, we were very happy. If you are wanting air-conditioned, sound-proof hotel rooms then you will need to pay much more elsewhere. But if you're looking for value-for-money, budget accomodation that is clean and safe and located right in the middle of the busy Gothic Quarter, then this is the place.
- Apostolia (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was exactly like the photos. The room was amazing and the bed super comfy! We loved it!!
Also, the location was great, we could walk everywhere!
- Sean (9/5): I’d come back when I’m in Barcelona - Great value for money and right at the centre. Not much. It’s got a good Spanish vibe to it, my room has a little terrace that opens up to the neighbourhood. They were doing construction at the time I visited but it’s no issue at all.
- Anne (5/5): Honest feedback. - One night stay. It was secure with external and internal door codes. It was a local experience. Room size was compact, ensuite was compact.
There was a roof fan but no air coditioning when outside night temperature was 24 degrees celsius, daytime was 35 degrees.
Soundproofing is absent.
Access from the alleyway was through a large door, up two flights of stairs where the entrance, it is our suggestion, needs much tender loving care and paint. There was no photo representing the outside of the property.
Costing €121, for a double room, the experience seemed over-priced to us, relevant to similarly priced overnight stays in Barcelona City.
- Kareem (3/5): Poor - The room was fine, I liked that there was a sink in the room. Didn’t like that the bathroom was shared and there wasn’t any AC. Also didn’t like that there wasn’t an elevator. I had a major problem with the staff who assumed I didn’t speak Spanish and spoke about me amongst themselves. They said the worst things about me that involved my race and sexuality and made false statements about my sobriety…
- Myrto (4/5): Overpriced, not a good experience overall. I would't book there again. - The ceiling fan. Furniture and flooring, in general, seemed new. Lots of towels. The street felt super dodgy, and I had to be escorted by friends when I returned by night because people were doing drugs outside the hotel's door.
The entrance was equally disappointing, with a super old appearance, cracked paint, and dead cockroaches all around.
You have to carry your suitcase up 1.5 narrow stairs, so bear that in mind.
It's a mix of automatic (code entrance) Airbnb and hotel.
The bathroom wasn't well-maintained (or designed?), so whenever I showered, lots of water would leak into the bedroom, and I had to use almost all of my towels to stop it from spreading everywhere.
Bear also in mind that there is no one at the reception before 12 pm and after 4-5 pm, so you are on your own.
Regarding cleanliness, I noticed that the floor wasn't completely clean when I arrived; the evidence was debris, apparently from previous stays, underneath the bed.
The noise was unbearable, so my sleep was awful during my stay. The walls have no insulation, as it is, of course, a very old building, and the rooms were adjacent to each other, so it felt like everyone was inside my room from the floor I stayed on.
Every morning, I could hear the cleaning staff at work, and there were maintenance works that started at 9 AM, accompanied by the sound of drills and other equipment.
Also, unfortunately, there is a schoolyard just opposite the room, so except on the weekends, the noise of children was too much starting from 8 am.
Overall, spending 400 euros or more for two nights in this, I wouldn't even think about it again.
Perhaps they are in the transition to renovating it.
