Guest Reviews
- fernando (9/5): If you want a great homely stay, with great hosts always available come stay at this accommodation - Great homely accommodation and great hosts with a beautiful cat. nothing
- Guest (7/5): -
- Niklas (8/5): - The location is just perfect and The hosts were lovely
- francesco (7/5): Charming but Needs Attention - I stayed at the “Charming Old World Apartment” while in Barbados for meetings, and the location is definitely one of its strongest points—very convenient and well-situated.
The apartment has a distinctive bohemian style with a slightly decadent, artistic touch that gives it character and a certain vintage charm. It’s clear the space has potential, and with some care, it could be truly special.
As mentioned in the listing, there is no air conditioning, but the mosquito net works well and makes sleeping manageable.
The apartment itself appears to have once been a balcony that was converted into a living space decades ago, which adds to its uniqueness but also explains some of the structural limitations.
The owner is kind and friendly in person. Privacy is quite limited. A thin persiana separates the apartment from a living room used by the owner, and the kitchen is shared through a light door that does little to block noise. You can easily hear conversations, which may not suit those needing a quiet or fully private environment.
The bathroom is in need of significant improvement or at least a thorough cleaning. The shower plate has a noticeable greasy patina that could likely be removed with proper cleaning, and the WC shows dark spots and feels past its usable lifespan.
Communication was lacking, as my messages went unanswered during the stay.
Overall, the place has charm and personality, but with some basic maintenance, improved cleanliness, and better communication, it could offer a much better experience.
- Kasia (7/5): Very nice host. - Good location and very nice host It’s a bit old and needs a lots of improvement. But for the price it wasn’t too bad. I would not recommend if someone likes comfort There is no closed windows so it is a paradise for mosquitoes. There is a nest around the bed that you can set though. I was bitten by mosquitoes very badly and spent only one night there.
- Ema (9/5): Lovely apartment - Lovely apartment, the host was really nice, the location was great, close to the sea and mini bus stops. The room had everything we needed, it was cozy and clean,, there is no AC (that was listed in advance), however during the night the temperature was pleasant. Would stay again. Maybe a bit loud due to animal sounds but we didn't really mind it.
- Mary Louise Kimberly (8/5): - Loved the location for me as a surfer as it was very close to Drill Halls Beach/Brandon's surf spot (10min walk, 15min walk with a surfboard). Also right beside the Dread or Dead Surf Shop / Surf School.
The accommodations is also right along the roads where public transportation is easily accessible. Place is only 20-30mins walk away from Pebble's Beach, 10mins from the Garrison, and 3mins walk from that oceanside boardwalk. Of course, everything can be taken by the public bus/van for only 3.50BBD for even shorter.
The property owner is also really nice and friendly including their cat. The cat is super cuddly and affectionate.
There is a shared kitchen to cook your own food also if you're on a budget and a nice balcony to eat your meals. Wasn't a fan of the mosquitos as the windows don't have a screen and I just easily get bitten by mosquitos haha. But there is mosquito net around the bed to use during the night time.
- Giovanni (9/5): A place to enjoy and go back! - Beautiful property offering a antique enchantment. Location is A+ Nothing to be honest! Be aware there is no AC, but that is very clear in the description.
- Valero (9/5): Superb - Loved to stay in a historical building, lot of history, is a very fresh room, very calm quiet and the best part is the location. Safe are and very close of everything. No place is perfect, and all depends on your expectations, if you reserved in a tradicional building you wont have the facilities of a modern building.
- Stenny (10/5): Brilliant! - Charming place and the host is such a nice person! Definitely recommended!
- Teresa (8/5): Very good - Nice room, very near to the beach. Very nice charming staff. Simple but clean. Very charming.
The owner is super nice and let us stay longer for our check out. She was very helpful and kind.
If you check in after 18 o’clock make sure to call before or let the taxi driver call. The check in was a little complicated because we didn’t know, we had to call after 18 o’clock. And we didn’t really know where to enter the building and we only had internet, but no sim. Luckily our taxi driver called and managed.
- Gerard (7/5): A very good host - Relaxed environment Nothing
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (10/5): Will be back again .. close to restaurants and beach - Close to the beach and Boardwalk and friendly host
- Nalini (9/5): Lovely homely place to stay for a few days - Good location, lots of nice restaurants nearby. Easy bus ride into the town centre. Lovely verandah for sitting and bird watching. The room was lovely and quiet. I enjoyed the birds and insects at night. Kristen was helpful and not intrusive at all. It was rather hot as there was no air conditioning - this was fine at night but if I was in during the day, it became very close though having said that, at least I was able to get cold showers any time to cool down!
- Sedryc (8/5): Nice - I liked the fact that the accommodation was close to all amenities (shopping centre, restaurants, beach etc...), the bus passes right in front. I like a hard bed and this was the case so I slept very well.
- Chris (6/5): OK for 1 night - Location No A/C
- Laureboudi (9/5): Nice stay in charming apartment close to beach - Very charming apartment, I felt really comfortable there and the fact that it's so open to the outside, getting the fresh air and the plants right there makes it so peaceful.
I would definitely recommend this place!
Kristine was very nice and helpful. n/a
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely host, location is superb and the room is private and so close to nature!
- Catherin (8/5): Very good -
- Tayab (8/5): Very good - It is exactly what the name implies.
It's not a new building with modern facilities but rather a 300 year old military hospital converted to an airbnb..it is comfortable and homely .
The grounds of the property are very huge .no pool, but you have a nice jogging path and might catch a glimpse of the dogs chasing a family of monkeys.
The monkeys are very good at teasing the dogs..
Sometimes it's good to experience a different view and live among the locals.and sometimes you go for luxury and comfort. Everything has a price.
I was satisfied with the hospitality and comfort, and it served my purpose as I could go in every direction and find something to do.
It was also not far from the venue that my meeting was being held. It's not really something that I disliked, but the sounds of the creatures of the night kept me awake until my ears became accustomed enough to just be background noise.
Those garden frogs and crickets and whatever else was out there were loud the first night.sounded like an orchestra playing in the yard
- Dobrawa (9/5): Superb - Christine, the owner, was extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. The location and surroundings were exceptional and paradise like. Especially the garden view of the bedroom was like a dream.
- Moore (10/5): Exceptional - The property lived up to its name. I will definitely stay there again. Nothing
- Sofia (10/5): A really charming stay - The location. Is well connected to B'town, the airport, and has a close beach access.
Kristine is a warm host and cares to provide a nice place to rest well. Apartment atmosphere is well described by its name.
- Steve (8/5): Very good - On a very bad day personally, Kristine went out of her way to help me. Thank you for your help.
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - I liked the rustic charm, it was peaceful and had a sense of calm.if you like authentic and dont like sterile identical hotel rooms then this is for you.
No Aircon but the open slats on the windows allowed a breeze from the east to cool the room and the mosquito net did its job perfectly.
The host was very pleasant and helpful, there were many books and magazines about Barbados for guests to peruse and a large comfy sitting room.
A short walk to the beach and likewise 2 of the popular museums were within a 15min walk. The local buses were available less than a minute from the property. Messages sent via booking.com didn't seem to reach the host on time. The property only accepts cash which is inconvenient and could be easily missed by someone booking via the Internet. Although I liked the room I felt it was slightly over priced for what it offered however everything in Barbados is overpriced so I was not surprised.
- Marius (10/5): Peaceful stay in a wonderful apartment - Very interesting history about the house, and lovely surroundings. The host Kristine is very kind and helpful, and she creates a nice atmosphere. Nothing specific.
- Kyte (4/5): Good location for a short stay - Great location. Close to beaches, restaurants, breakfast spots and local busses. The beach is starting pretty much just across the road. Watching the sunset, sitting on the outside stairs with a glass of wine is strongly recommended. The room is not fully private but slightly connected to the living room. Just between the houses´living room and kitchen. As it is a shared home, it was not the cleanest place. Additionally, the insulation of the room is poor which means the noise level (traffic and neighbors) and mosquito visits were higher than expected.
- Lesko (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marianna (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rexford (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jacqueline (8/5): Antique Barbados - The gardens Shower curtain needed cleaning or changing
Toilet ugly, needed changing or scrubbing
- Stanton (10/5): The accommodation is great for persons with a simple mindset and on a budget. - The location was great close to all the tourist hotspots, and it was close to where my conference was being held.
- Allison (8/5): A very pleasant and uniquely Barbadian stay in a lovely setting - The location was great! I felt very safe in the complex and it was just across the road from a small, not very busy, beach and also within walking distance of Bridgetown. The property is on a main bus route , giving easy access to the costal areas and the airport. The room in the appartment was spacious and very tastfully decorated ... including some really lovely artwork by the Kristine, the host. In fact, I wish Kristine had had some prints available for purchase as, price permitting, I'd definitely have bought one!
The terrace was gorgeous, full of greenery, and I enjoyed spending mornings and evenings there with Pinky the cat, who was adorable! I saw monkeys, listened to birds and had (what I feel) was a true and unique Bajan experience in my brief time there. Also, my flight was not until late in the evening and Kristine was kind enough to let me leave my luggage there while I spent the day exploring. Thank you Kristine. Although it didn't bother me too much (as I am used to midges in Scotland!), I did get bitten a bit during the night due to the open nature of the place. For me that was a small price to pay and in no way outweighed the positives ... but information for those who may not be able to cope with this.
Again for information (and and this is not intended as a negative as it is such a lovely place) but please be advised this is a room in someone's appartment. Kristine is very discreeet and welcoming but you will not have the appartment 'to yourself'. I mention this as I booked via my phone and it wasn't overly clear via the booking.com phone app. It didn't bother me in the slightest but again, hopefully useful information for those who want something solely to themselves.
- Paula (10/5): a little quaint hidden gem - an amazing authentic stay
felt so safe in the little complex
Christine the owner is a dream
there if you need her but not intrusive
- Abena (5/5): Nice hostess but I was disappointed with how dirty the place is. -
- Clement (8/5): Very good - This is a nice room with separate bathroom. It has a very comfortable bed. Host was extremely accomodating and helpful. Space was in the home of the owner so there was not complete separation/privacy.
- Adam (8/5): very good for our one night needs - Rustic and quaint nothing
- Ena (9/5): Great place for short stay, great price - This is really an unique stay, and definitely not for everyone. Us two enjoyed, it was really comfortable and different from other apartments we've been to. This is a very old house, as I read somewhere, around 300 years old, and regarding that very charming and lovely. It was great to stay in such unique place, everything was very clean and spacious. But, I would say that is definitely not for someone not flexible. Behind the house there is a huge garden full of birds, crickets and we also saw monkeys, which can get a little bit loud during the night, and the windows can't be closed completely. That could be bothering for someone. We really enjoyed since we are flexible backpackers not asking for too much luxury. Shared kitchen with kettle is available, and also very unique and old. There is a lot of tchotchke in there :D Bathroom is private. All in all a great stay for couple of days, for a reasonable price. Maybe there could be less things in the kitchen, we did not make any meal, but if we had, I think it would be challenging to find the things you need.
- Robin (6/5): Pleasant stay - A nice Airbnb type place with a friendly host. On the main road near the coast with smart hoteks nearby so places to eat. Ok for an overnight and a quick trip to the airport. I do like an aircon room in the tropics and would certainly expect one at the price. There is fan so if this suits you that is fine. There were little details the host could fix such as a new light bulb in thr main light and a door into the front room that closed properly.
- Bjoern (8/5): Very good - The property is a seperate flat in a house. It lies in a quiet suburban area less than 10 minutes walk from the beach. City centre is another 10 minutes walk. The flat is very clean, quiet and have a high standard. Just like an upgraded hotel room. Friendly host does not live on the property, but will arrange taxi to airports etc. There are no supermarkets og shops in the area. Some small kiosks selling coke, biscuits etc. and a couple of take aways.
- John (7/5): A very unique place that lives up to its names. - You could make tea and coffee in the kitchen and sit on the verandah. The windows were slatted so you felt were sleeping in the outdoors. You could feel the history as it is an old military hospital. It was beautifully adorned by lots of the owners colourful paintings. You could walk along the beach or road to some fun and lively restaurants, bars and cafes.
Pinky the cat made us feel very at home. Some spaces were shared and we weren't sure if we were intruding. Don't expect pristine, hotel style cleanliness. Be careful when walking along the pavements at night. In the front and rear of the property, the monkeys, birds and singing frogs may keep you awake but also add to the charm.
- Mengdi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Betsy (8/5): Great value lots of charm - Helpful owner. Spacious room. Lots of charm. Good location. No AC but has a fan so comfortable at night. Door is a little tricky to close.
- Julie (1/5): Bad -
- 45 (10/5): Exceptional - My newly wedded wife and I are locals and headed directly from our wedding reception to the apartment.
Because of our work and family commitments we couldn't travel, our "honeymoon" had to be on island and unfortunately brief. We chose this location because it checked all our boxes. Easy transportation if needed and alternative routes, close to food venues, beach access, lovely scenery, recessed from the main roadside a hideaway feeling, best of all and what we mainly wanted was peaceful, quiet, shady and cool.
Combine all of that with a most pleasant and friendly hostess and our two day stay was all too short.
Thank you Kristine,
And hello Pinky [who knows knows for the others go find out]
