Guest Reviews
- blobfish (8/5): - It was at the beach. You walk out of the door and stand in the sand! It was at the quieter end of the beach. At night you can hear the waves, which could trigger some but I didn't mind. Keep in mind that you have to pay cash.

- Nicole (9/5): - De ligging was erg mooi.
- Maicol (10/5): -
- Hugo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antonio (10/5): All good - Good location
- Lewenstein (9/5): Superb -
- Hilton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrés (6/5): Fair enough based on the cost-benefit relationship fact.
The bathroom drain smells strong at night. - The price and location Too many flies and rescued dogs around
- Andrej (1/5): Bad - Avoid the Playa Blanca at all costs!
I was approached by aggressive sellers on the beach, they walked with me to the terrace of this hostel and there they robbed me 320K pesos/70€/80$. The hostel workers wouldn’t do anything about it. Just avoid the beach!
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Carlos is just the best and we loved our stay with him and his dogs and would return anytime. He's also a great chef and Spanish-teacher who makes you feel very well taken care of during your stay.
- Maria (5/5): Our stay was average, everything would have been a deal better if bedsheets didn’t look so used. The best thing was Carl - The location was great and the view from the balcony was beautiful. Carlos was great at giving tips about the zone and was very attentive with our lunch and needs. The ceiling was leaking and a heavy storm kept us awake all night because drops would fall on the bed and ourselves.
- Jacqueline (8/5): Perfect. - We were satisfied. Playa Blanca baru was better than we expected. We weren't hustled by anyone, the water was beautiful, Carlos was helpful, we were able to cook our own meal, and our "balcony"/sitting area with a sitting area, hammock, and the ocean was wonderful. We had no issue with using water for a shower, the bathrooms, we got an Indrive there for 50,000 and paid a guy the same amount leaving with some time/negotiation. We were able to boil water there to drink which was nice. Bring water as it is pricey. The sitting loungers on the sand were perfect. As every place there electricity from 6pm-6am and no wifi, and low cell service if any, but it was perfect for us. The floor was not level so you roll to one side of the bed.
- Danijel (9/5): Superb - Very friendly and attentive staff. They organize everything you need. The hostel is an outdoor eco accommodation with cabins. Open air reception, bar, kitchen wich is very charming. Lots of hammocks around to relax. Good wifi at the reception as well as a charging station. The food was good and the price decent. Just a few minutes walk from playa Libre. Great place to absolutely relax and escape from the busy world
- Danijel (9/5): Superb - Carlos is simply the best. He takes care of everything and makes sure his guest feel great! Simple accommodation with a balcony just 5 steps in front of the Sea to jump in. The hammock was amazing to chill in. The tour in the evening to watch Plancton was magical! Great place to spend a night or two.
- Samuel (6/5): Beautiful piece of Heaven - Location close to the beach Have to have cash to check out and if you dont have local currency it gets more awkward and Change rate is he said she said .. recommend anyone booking it to have the full amount in Colombian pesos for peace of mind. Amount end up higher that what booking mentioned to begin with
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional - The place is very basic, but Carlos make sure its always clean. You will see him cleaning the whole place multiple times.
- Nishant (8/5): Very good - As everyone else has said, Carlos is very nice and helpful in all aspects even with our limited Spanish. He went above and beyond.
The room we had was pretty large and had a window that looked out to the water.
Unlike other places in this price range, there was actually electricity available, though only between 6pm to 6am.
There is a beach in front with lounge chairs. There isn't too much coral so you can actually swim there. We would walk over to Hostal hidden Beach a few doors down and swim at the beach there as there is practically no coral there.
Oh and the little dog there(arena?) is the best. The place itself is rustic. First impressions of the place was not good, could use some new paint and updating.
The shower needs a special touch to get it running. You have to find Carlos to get it going so you're limited to shower times.
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - Host was super chill, let us use snorkels and sorted us out with a ferry to isla grande (took a sneaky 20,000COP cut though). Quiet end of beach. Clean rooms. Not much actual beach space to hang out, only recliners. HOT in the rooms even with fan on.
- Anna (10/5): Great place to stay - The location on the beach is great, it’s much calmer and the water is beautiful - also a great part for snorkelling. Carlos helped us with everything we needed and was generally really nice. Falling asleep to the sounds of the waves was just beautiful!
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - View and host Shower
- Ofek (10/5): Exceptional - The host is a really great guy he will help you with everything you need.
Perfect vibe
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good - The personal people were really nice and always checking if i needed something
- Abbi (7/5): Lovely 😊 - Right on the beach, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, beautiful views a little basic, but everything you need really
- Colorado (10/5): 10/10 - The staff was super nice, Carlos is a good guest and he provide us food and utilities that we needed, super kind, and also de owner Daiber was so kind with us. Is a basic room but is in front of the beach, you sleep with the sound of the waves, so healthy and nice. I would recommend the night here for y'all Everything was fine, but in the night some neighbors were partying and putting music kinda lower for us, it's not the hostel's fault but it was just the only thing that we didn't like cause the rest of the experience was awesome
- Genevieve (8/5): Very good -
- Molnár (6/5): Chance to be a great place, after maintainance, and renewing. - Perfect location, right at the beach, sea is under your feet. Not exactly in the center of Playa Blanca, but it's a great advantage, because of more silence and less tourist boats. But everythig is just steps from your room. Carlos the staff is helpful, and always there is you need anything. The view from the teracce is just perfect. No doubt, that the feeling is priceless, when you are lying in your hammock, and watching to the ocean from your teracce. If you go to Playa Blanca, you have to prepare yourself, for some compromise (most of accomodations, don't have bathroom, electricity is limited, parking place is far, no shops etc), but by my opinion, you can find better deals and palces in the beach among these conditions. Plaa Tortuga is ablosutely runned down, the tipical example of an accomodation, which is just a cashcow for the owner, but don't invest anything for maintainance. Doors are unlockable, no wifi, sometimes lack of water for showering, bad lighting, extreme uncomfortable beds with giant depressions (need to be changed immediately), broked floor, dirty, used sunbeds (most runned down that you can see in the whole beach), etc... Take into consideration these things, the price is not so cheap, Overall, it could be a magic place with some care, investing, and a minimal maintainance, but now I dont't recommend for tourits
- Kwame (6/5): nice but no frills! - listen if you want a no-frills chilled double room on the beach for a very cheap price this is the place but don’t expect anything fancy… at all. the owner/security guard is really nice and may well be the best thing about the property. but it’s in a great location right on the beach and personally I just needed a place to get away and be by myself so it was fine… more like a big tree house, very basic facilities, shower (which was just a pipe out of the wall) didn’t work for most of the stay,
- Jessica (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kirk (10/5): No camisa,, No Zapatos,, No problemos. - The fan worked good. The bed was super comfortable had amazing sleeps listening to the ocean. Smokes a lot of weed and ate delicious fresh fruit and smoothies. Went spearfishing fishing and got octopus.. My skin turned a nice Brown color lounging around on the nice sun beds and listening to my audio book. They sell coconut oil on the beach I liked everything. Even the rustic aspects such as.
Electricity only between 6pm and 7am.
Nice chill beach dogs
I seen a few sea urchins on the rocks in front of the hotel when I mas snorkelling. So just wear some sandals or be careful.
Everyone tried to gringo price me here on the island.
So ask Carlos who works here and he will tell you the prices of stuff so you don't get ripped off.
- Zorica (10/5): One of the best experiences of my life - My dream was to fall asleep and wake up hearing the waves one day. l fullfilled this dream and am very grateful for it. For me Playa Tortuga cabanas were perfect. Carlos works hard and is helpful. l am looking forward to coming back next year. l loved the fact you did not even need tge flip-flops for few days. lt is little bit expensive, but everything in Baru is.
- Moreno (10/5): Exceptional -
- Justyn (9/5): Great stay, location and host. Highly recommend for a quiet beachfront getaway! - The property was a prime location on the quiet end of the beachfront. Our host Carlos was very kind and helpful.
- Sanchez (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (1/5): not a good place - Carlos is really nice The conditions of the property were very poor; there was water entitling the room and cockroaches
