Guest Reviews
- Roger (10/5): Quiet getaway. - Farm stay, quiet, horses, cows, blue tongue lizard, butcher birds. Marvellous location. Fantastic hosts. Great photos. ?

- Denise (5/5): Great but could use something extra - Location and facilities were very good If you advertise a place as a Bed and Breakfast but don't supply Breakfast, then it's just a bed. This is a lovely place with lovely people, but it's technically only a B, not a B & B, which is what we were looking for. If that isn't an issue for you, definitely stay here, you'll love it. We did. But we were also hungry the next morning. Looking at the description now, I see they say bring your own food. But a bacon and egg burger without egg is just a bacon burger. Fish and chips without chips... You get the idea.

- Carolyn (9/5): Beautiful and peaceful short stay. - Location is amazing, peaceful, serene. Just a lovely place to get away. There was nothing I didn’t like. I had to adjust to the unstable wifi, but that is purely the location and the internet available to the area in general. In no way does this reflect the owners of the property.
- Julz (10/5): - Very happy with everything Loved all
- Holly (10/5): Gorgeous place to unwind and let go of all your worries - My partner and I had a wonderful time relaxing in the gorgeous cabin on our lovely hosts (Kim and Dean) property. The complimentary wood stocked daily for use in the pot belly fireplace was a lovely touch. We were also greeted by three horses in the paddock nearest the cabin each day which really helped relieve any residual stress. Kim also dropped by some home grown lemons which we really enjoyed grilling up on the bbq to use on our food. 10/10 would stay again any time.
- Sandra (10/5): - Gorgeous cottage. Highly recommend.
- Kurt (9/5): Great location, Great hosts - Everything Nothing
- Drew (9/5): -
- David (9/5): We had a delightfully peaceful stay in a very well-equipped cottage. - Very friendly and helpful hosts. The view from the patio was lovely. Quiet and peaceful. The log fire.
- Wayne (9/5): Loved it would definitely go back the people of woodenbong are great - Was a great place dean an kim where great a bit of heat in the morning would have been good but overall was the best place we have stayed at for a while A bit of wood in the morning to take the chill of but it is winter time so we have to expect that it’s a bit fresh in the morning
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grace (7/5): Off grid studio cabin, lovely wood fire, great views, comfy stay :) - Unfortunately during our stay the weather was very overcast with a lot of rain/storms. This meant that we didn't enjoy our location and views as much as we had hoped. The wildlife and farm animals made up for that though :)
The cabin is a one room studio with a gas cooktop, bar fridge, kitchenette. The cabin is "off grid" and runs on solar - be mindful of power/electrical needs. There are lots of thoughtful touches and it's lovely and peaceful, great sleep and when the weather permits beautiful views, and a great wood fire to cozy up to.
Our hosts Dean & Kim were lovely and accommodating and we really enjoyed our time here (despite the weather), a wonderful "time out" for us to recharge our own "batteries". Thank you for hosting us, it was lovely.
- Jeff (9/5): Superb -
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was amazing. Particularly loved the night sky full of stars, peaceful and serene. Nothing to dislike.
- Sergio (9/5): Look forward to going back - Fabulous hosts and location for a getaway from the hustle and bustle. The friendly farm animals and local wildlife are a bonus in a stunning setting. Nothing
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - Location was excellent Nothing
- Leanne (9/5): Rustic charm in a quiet and pretty rural setting - We love staying in repurposed old buildings and this former butcher's shed is one of the most comfortable and interesting B&Bs we have stayed in. The location was quiet and the surrounding farmlands were beautiful. My husband enjoyed spending time in the shed with Dean while I chatted to the horses.
- Anonymous (10/5): The place to stay - So relaxing great hosts Couldn't spend more time there
- Pamela (9/5): Delightful stay in Woodenbong. - We loved the location of the cabin and the glorious views. The cabin was quirky but extremely comfortable and well equipped. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. Unsure why it is called Bed and Breakfast as no breakfast is provided.
- Diana (10/5): Perfect little cabin to disconnect. It was beautiful. -
- Penson (9/5): Superb -
- Letitia (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- James (9/5): Superb - My partner surprised me here for my birthday and it was really really lovely!
Love the atmosphere, clean and a well-kept little cottage. If you're a nature person, then this is the place for you.
We usually like to listen to music while sleeping. However, the cicadas, frogs and other little animals of the night were spectacular with their performance. It was beautiful.
The starry night is also incredible, you could actually see the night sky twinkling and they were everywhere! We spotted quite a few shooting stars and didn't have to stay up past 10pm!
The cows and horses were soooooo cute as well!! A couple were friendly too!!
Kim and Dean were very lovely and accommodating to us ❤️ thanks for making our stay awesome 🥰
- John (10/5): Lovely place to stay and unwind - After a busy week in Brisbane, I needed a place to relax and complete some reports. Kim and Dean's cottage was the perfect to unwind, with stunning views across the property and the distant mountains. The bed was super comfortable, with quality linens. I spent most of my time on the deck. The area is fenced from the nearby paddock, and I was frequently visited by inquisitive cows and the friendly horses, Rosie and Ellie. Kim and Dean are terrific hosts and it was a pleasure to spend time with Dean in his workshop and watch him harness and drive the dray horses. I will return in winter next time, so I can use the wood burner. Nothing not to like.
- Liz (10/5): was a lovely place good for a relaxing stay away - nice and quiet
- Wazza66 (9/5): Superb -
- Diane (1/5): It wasn’t an enjoyable stay. Regards, Roger and Diane Elkins. - Absolutely not a thing. Bossy and intrusive hosts. Too many rules to relax. Solar and generated power cuts off regularly without notice. Water is undrinkable. Dirty bathroom and toilet with broken seat. There was only half a roll of toilet paper provided. Also, there wasn’t any non-slip bathmats. I, actually had a fall on the bathroom floor and hurt my back. It’s not a proper bed and breakfast as there wasn’t even a continental breakfast provided. provided.
- Bjorn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suki (10/5): Charming country stay. Highly recommended. - A clever renovation with lovely touches incorporating the original structure. 'Off grid' but still has all the mod cons you'd expect. Fireplace was great and Dean did all the hard work to ensure we had enough wood. Made friends with Rosie the horse and gave her all our apples. View is wonderful. Dean & Kim are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the area. A charming stay and well worth a visit.
- Mark (9/5): A lovely peaceful place with beautiful views - It was a lovely cabin with beautiful views to the mountain range past the horses and cows N/A
- Steven.w111 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gautam (10/5): Beautiful stay - Cozy place, fire place and amazing dean. He is a hardworking individual with amazing horses Nothing
- Colin (10/5): Should have stayed longer - Hosts made us very welcome. The cottage was beautifully set up, with a deck looking over meadows with cows and wallabies.
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect! Such beautiful views, so tranquil. Just what I needed to relax and get creative again. - Such a beautiful location and so tranquil. Heaps of birdlife (I counted 22 species), and saw microbats flying past the verandah at night. Very clean and comfortable. Everything you need. Kim and Dean were very friendly, but gave me privacy. It felt like I had the place to myself, but as I was travelling solo, it was comforting to know they were nearby if needed. I'll be back!
- Kevin (8/5): Relaxing country stay. - Very friendly hosts, accommodation was clean and comfortable. Relaxing stay. Would have liked a longer stay
!!
- Christine (9/5): Superb - The most beautiful location, lovely hosts. The cottage we stayed in was gorgeous with all the things you needed for a comfy stay. Would recommend this accommodation.
Thank you also to our hosts for travelling tips, spot on and much appreciated.
- Jonathan (10/5): What a wonderful place - The amazing location, the views, the hosts, the birds, the horses and the comfortable cabin. We could have spent a week there, it was so nice. It was very private too. That we had to leave
- Kirra (9/5): Great, - The location was central to my work locations, a beautiful spot, with great people, and very accommodating. This was my second stay there and not hesitate to come back again, I look forward to it. N/A
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable, clean and cosy country cottage. Great country scenery and friendly hosts. 🙂 No phone reception (with the Optus network) due to the country location.
- Amanda (9/5): Switch off and unwind at this hidden getaway - The scenic views, the kitchen and the peaceful atmosphere. It was very hot during the day. I wish there was air conditioning
- Tania (8/5): Very good -
- Steven.w111 (10/5): A Hidden gem. - Beautiful self contained accommodation nestled in the middle of stunning farmland located in a small country town just south of the scenic rim.
Powered by solar and battery with its own rain water tank this accommodation is eco friendly.
The interior was well thought out and cozy. The high ceilings were decorated with farmhouse equipment which suited the farmhouse vibe throughout. A freestanding wood fireplace takes the center of the room surrounded by a bar style table, a large and comfortable bed and a lounge area complete with books and boardgames. This leads out though the French doors to the deck where the views are stunning.
The kitchenette is complete with a bar fridge, microwave and stovetop. The bathroom is functional and clean with a shower that has good water pressure.
Last but not least the owners were very warm and welcoming. It was lovely having a chat with them.
In summary, this place is a hidden gem. My only complaint was that I didn't get to spend enough time there. I look forward to returning with my partner soon.
- Fiona (9/5): awesome value - rural setting cow watching affordable for a single person hope there is rain soon so more visitors can stay
- Jenny (10/5): Rejuvenating - Ahh… the serenity!!
So peaceful, with a magnificent view.
Loved all the animals, cows, horses, birds, Roos etc
- Laurie (10/5): Exceptional - So peaceful with a outlook to the mountains. Added to that was a visit by two very friendly horses. Great country getaway with great country hospitality .
The house was well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. Very clean and comfortable.
Dean and Kim were wonderful hosts.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (8/5): Our stay was relaxing, lots of wildlife to look at. - The fire was cosy and made our stay even more delightful. There was no oven !!
- Margaret (10/5): This is the best accommodation we have had this trip. - This delightful historic cottage is set overlooking a beautiful grassy valley with tall trees and distant hills. It is tastefully decorated and has all amenities. The bed is very comfortable and the area very quiet. There is even a wood fire for winter stays.
Kim and Dean are very welcoming. Thanks Dean for sharing your knowledge and showing us your harness workshop
It is worth the effort to leave the highway and enjoy the scenic drive to Woodenbong. Nil
- Susan (10/5): We’ll be back to this retreat in a beautiful area - Quiet, with trees, views, birds, horses
Beautiful restored building. The fire was cosy during a late winter storm.
- Buchanan (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (10/5): A hidden gem! - What a hidden little gem. Far far better than expected. Such a idyllic location with horses and cows in the surrounding fields, beautiful hills, sunset and just so tranquil. The cottage itself had everything you could ask for - kitchen utensils, BBQ, tea, salt/pepper, games, books, fire, wood, TV and WIFI (neither of which we used) or you could just gaze at the view. It was walking distance to town if you wanted to or not... My only negative, which isn't really a negative at all, is that it is too cheap!!! I couldn't fault anything. It was just so lovely.
- Craig (10/5): Perfect ending to top off a day of natures beauty. - After an amazing day traveling The Head Koreelah national park we arrived at a farm gate and drove over the hill following the Instructions By Woodenbong B&B to find our accomadation in a beautiful valley.
The converted barn was amazing, the horses Elly and Rose came up to say hello as did the Butcher birds.
we watched magnificent sunset and wandered the creek with the cows. The fire stove was toasty warm and the sky was littered with stars.
We sought some help to change the gas bottle, these things do run out and Dean helped us out and kindly showed us his workshop of saddlery and horse collars, a skill of generations, thank you for your hospitality, you cant go past this B&B.
- Judy (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed the quiet and rustic charm. Watching the horses and cattle from the front veranda was very relaxing.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb -
- Bonnie (9/5): cosy, comfortable and affordable - beautiful views, comfortable bed & pillows, great shower, nice hosts, everything we needed for a perfect stay. nothing
- Stanley (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable and relaxing stay
- Revello (10/5): Beautiful country outlook, cabin is very unique and very comfortable - We had a wonderful time with cows and horses at our back porch. The scenery is stunning and very quiet and relaxing.
A great country getaway. Kim and Dean were very accomodating and would love to come back again one day soon.
Dean even showed us some of his training that he does with his horses.
- Revello (10/5): Exceptional - Kim and Dean were wonderful hosts and their cabin was well equiped and the bed was so comfy
It was so beautiful waking up to the horses and cows and them coming over to great us good morning with a neigh and a moo. Such a wonderful place to stay, for a quiet getaway. Highly recommend for a country getaway, everything was perfect.
- Jen (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Wonderful - Absolutely wonderful location, beautiful farmland surrounded by majestic mountains.. The room was a large shed conversion; rustic, but exceptionally well done. Highly recommended. Will stay again if we travel that way again. Just to be aware that there is limited wi-fi reception; with Kim's assistance we were able to work around it.
- David (10/5): We absolutely loved our stay, and will be returning soon! - What a little paradise! This cottage was the perfect escape to the country and is very likely to become our favourite country getaway. We loved the view from the back deck of the cottage, overlooking the farm and out to the mountains. The cottage was extremely well equipped (including a fire place ready to go) and meticulously clean. Hosts Kim & Dean are just delightful, with good old fashioned country hospitality. We were made to feel completely at home. A highlight for the horsey lovers or those craving more of the country experience is seeing Dean working his horses in harness, and a tour of his tack shed. We absolutely loved our stay, and will highly recommend to others! Thank you, Dave & Kate Not applicable
- Elizabeth (10/5): Simply beautiful -
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Merv (10/5): cosy cabin and large star filled night skys - every thing we were looking for, lovely setting and serene. very comfortable and very clean. hosts made us feel very much at home. thanks Kim and Dean
- Wifee (6/5): Relaxing and pretty but improved communication required. - Lovely little cabin with all the amenities a couple or small family would need. The location is rural with great views out over the fields across to the mountain range. The hosts provide timber and fire lighters for the fireplace which does a great job of warming the cabin on those cold winter nights. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom and facilities were clean and tidy. Some effort had been put into showing the past uses of the little cabin and the general businesses in the area from the past. There was no mention in the advertising that the bnb was 'off the grid'. If you have an electric vehicle this is not a great option as the property is off-grid meaning there is limited power and you cannot charge your car overnight. This is quite limiting if you are planning on using this as a base for day trips to Stanthorpe, Tenterfield, or Warwck, as you will find yourself having to go to places to charge up that you might otherwise not have visited. (FYI if you need a charger the closest and best option we found was at Warwick). Inquiries in the weeks prior to our stay into allowances to charge the EV overnight were not answered. If we had known of the limitations we would have driven a different vehicle.
Also, the roads around Woodenbong are not in good shape at present due to the amount of rain the area had earlier this year. With no word of a lie - some of those potholes were the width of the road.
Despite being a BnB - no breakfast is provided. The reason for this is apparently still covid.
The access to the property is difficult - gravel, very rocky, and hugely uneven in spots - I was given to understand during our stay that the drive will be graded shortly making this easier on visiting vehicles.
