• Dmitrii (10/5): Рекомендую это место, соотношение цена качество 🔥🔥 - Сюда нужно приехать и станет все понятно. Очень крутое место! Действительно домик ретрит в горах острова. Удобства и сервис так же порадовали. Бассейн с мягкими лежаками, классный бар, домашние вкусные завтраки! У меня был номер Люкс - он был шикарен, у него есть выход на свой балкончик с красивым видом. Такого не было. Имейте ввиду что до этого места нужно минут 15 идти пешком, на машине там проехать нельзя. Но лично я не считаю это недостатком, скорее наоборот.

• Paulina (9/5): - Niezwykła lokalizacja, ale również trudna,do obiektu trzeba dojść, im lżejszy bagaż tym lepiej, bo droga nie jest łatwa. Dojazd po bardzo stromej i krętej drodze. Nie potrafiłabym zlokalizować miejsca w którym można by zostawić samochód pomimo informacji że jest taka opcja.

Dus het ontbijt is de avond van te voren voor me geregeld. Het eten is heerlijk! Alleen de locatie is afgelegen. Wel lekker rustig.
• Lynn (10/5): - Favorite place we stayed in Cape Verde! It's a beautiful location with amazing view. It's a bit secluded but that definitely adds to the charm. You enter an oasis of peace. The staff is super sweet and helpful. You can do hikes from the hotel but also have a lovely chill day at the hotel if you want a quiet day. I loved the communal dinner with all the guests! You can easily meet other travelers. Food was amazing and the rooms were super clean and beautiful with amazing views of the mountains. Beds were the most comfortable we had so far! Will definitely come back when visiting Santo Antao again!

• De Clercq (10/5): Beautiful spot, away from society, with such nice personel and manager - It's a beautiful place with super nice people working here. Surrounded by the most breathtaking views. The food is a big plus! Breakfast is hearty and perfect to prepare for hiking. There's a possibility to have lunch (even packed if you want) and dinner. The dinner was so good, plenty and tasteful and together with the other guests, which makes a good moment to share information for hikes or share taxis. The rooms are beautiful! We had a standard room but booked 1 night extra with them and got a suite. If you can afford it, take the nicer room, the views are amazing and you will not regret it (execpt that you might want to stay there instead of going up the mountains ;)) We loved that, but know that a taxi cannot drop you right in front of the door. You still need to do a short walk, which adds to the feeling of being in nature and Santa Antao.
• Kathrin (10/5): Vovely and quiet place to relax and let time pass by - Super lovely staff, food is yummy with a lot of things home made and organic, great views from the property and nice and quiet. A beautiful spot to recharge and chill. Private taxi from harbour to hotel was 50 euro and they organized it. In hindsight you can get a shared mini van for cheaper to Ribeira grande and get a taxi from there up to the place for 10 euro but we saved all that hassle and were happy with the taxi after a flight and ferry ride. To the place itself there is no road as they mentioned in the listing and they offer help from one of their staff to carry your suitcases. And he is strong!! 💪🏼 Nothing, we loved everything. I agree with one comment about hard mattress in our room but I heard some have softer ones so ask when booking to make sure your preference if the room type permits.
• Maria F R (6/5): - La ubicación es espectacular. Las vistas son increíbles, el entorno tiene mucho encanto y la comida también nos gustó. Es un sitio con mucho potencial... ojala mejorasen las habitaciones y los problemas de humedad porque estaría genial pasar una o dos noches y disfrutar del entorno. Tuvimos una experiencia bastante mala debido a un problema grave de humedad en el alojamiento. Reservamos dos habitaciones: una habitación compartida de 8 camas y una suite. La habitación compartida estaba en condiciones muy malas e incluso insalubres. Varias camas estaban humedas, toallas mojadas, los techos tenían moho visible... Al ser literas, las personas que dormían en la parte de arriba lo pasaron especialmente mal por la cercanía con el techo lleno de moho; de hecho, algunos tuvieron reacciones alérgicas. Además, algunos colchones de esta habitación no eran realmente colchones, sino simples trozos de espuma. Al sentarte o tumbarte se notaban claramente las maderas de la cama, por lo que era prácticamente imposible descansar. Considero que esta habitación es una estafa y no debería ofrecerse en esas condiciones. La otra habitación, la suite, estaba bastante mejor en comparación. Aun así, también tenía bastante humedad, aunque al menos el colchón era un colchón de verdad. Sin embargo, la humedad, los ácaros siguen siendo un problema. Teniendo en cuenta el estado de las habitaciones, el precio nos pareció muy caro para el nivel real del alojamiento.

• Diana (9/5): Een verassende en unieke oase van rust en groen. - Het was een bijzondere locatie en vond het concept uniek van gemeenschappelijk eten met andere klanten. Wat de eigenaar hier heeft gecreëerd is heel bijzonder, zeker als je weet en ziet hoe veel inspanning dit kost. Al het eten is uit eigen tuin, de bar is zeer uitgebreid (happy with the gin tonic!). Verder is alles back to basic en back to nature. Erg inspirerend. Booking had beter kunnen adviseren over de bereikbaarheid van de locatie. Je wil hier niet s'avonds in het donker aankomen. Mijn advies is dat je er met daglicht aan moet komen ivm de ruige smalle weg en het laatste stuk dat je lopend over keien e.d. moet afleggen. Als je er bent is het geweldig! En voor ons als fitte vijftigers goed te doen.

• Gildas (10/5): Expérience originale et merveilleuse, une retraite avant l’heure ! - Endroit merveilleux, au bout du monde et hors du temps. Les paysages sont exceptionnels. Les chambres les moins chères ne sont pas très grandes mais sont très propres et très mignonnes. Le repos à la piscine ou sur la terrasse surplombant la montagne est très apprécié. Une expérience originale et une rencontre chaleureuse avec le propriétaire irlandais. Le repas proposé est varié et copieux, les repas se prennent tous ensemble, ce qui favorise les échanges internationaux ! Possible de payer en carte, ce qui est exceptionnel au Cap vert. Merci pour cette belle parenthèse ! Une de nos étapes préférée à Santo Antao ! On vous attend à Toulon pour un match de rugby 😉 Nous avons adoré la situation mais il faut préciser pour certains que L’arrivée se mérite (pick up à 9€ + 15 mn de marche en montée). Pour ceux qui ne veulent pas prendre le menu complet à 15€ très copieux, il serait peut-être bien de proposer juste un plat.

C’est à la fois le charme et l’inconvénient de ce logement . Après la route montagneuse il faut marcher 10 mn en montée pour arriver à l’hébergement, pas dérangeant mais c’est à savoir !

• Marinke (7/5): - De kamer was heel goed, bedden waren fijn. Locatie is mooi en personeel was heel vriendelijk. De prijzen zijn extreem hoog voor de standaard van het land, er is weinig in de omgeving en daar wordt van geprofiteerd. Het zwembad was heel vies, het werd niet schoon gemaakt.
• Marc (8/5): ¡Difícil acceso, pero vale la pena! - Las chicas que gestionan el hotel nos ayudaron en todo lo que necesitabamos, incluso con medicinas para la barriga. Las comidas estaban deliciosas, buena conexión a Internet y el lugar privilegiado. Se está mucho más fresco que en los valles, cosa que por las noches se agradece. La llegada al hotel es un poco complicada sobretodo si no tienes coche. Aún y haber leído otras reseñas, deben tener en cuenta que primero se debe subir una carretera bastante complicada, y al final dejar el coche en una de las últimas curvas antes de llegar al hotel, y proceder a subir caminando durante 10 minutos más. La habitación doble NO vale la pena. No tiene ventanas y la cama es muy incómoda. Mejor pagar un poco más y tener una de las suites.
• Marieke (10/5): Voortreffelijk verblijf - Weinig hotels hebben een beter uitzicht dan dit. Fantastisch. Suite was erg mooi en comfortabel. Ontbijt, lunch en diner in het hotel is erg aan te raden. Goede sfeer in het algemeen. Douche had beetje lekkage. Houd er rekening mee dat je nog een stukje de bergen in moet met met een taxi.
• Thibaut (9/5): A peaceful mountain retreat with great amenities, at the cost of isolation - The location is amazing: deep in the mountains, isolated from civilization, and set in a very peaceful and quiet environment. The property offers nice amenities and facilities, including a bar, restaurant, swimming pool, and easy access to nearby hiking trails. Most of the staff speaks good English, and both check-in and check-out are smooth and efficient. Breakfast and dinner are good, although slightly expensive. The hotel also organized our transfer from the ferry terminal for 5,000 CVE (€50), which is fair given the distance (a 1h15–1h30 drive) and in line with standard taxi prices. Shared “aluguer” taxis are cheaper but do not operate on a fixed schedule. Food prices are a bit high for the country, so the value for money is not ideal. In addition, when staying on the coast (Ribeira Grande), you need to book a private taxi to go up and down to/from the retreat. This costs around 1,000 CVE (€10) per ride, which can become a non-negligible expense if you stay several days. That said, this is part of the experience of being isolated in such a peaceful location—something we also appreciated—just with a small additional cost to keep in mind.

The staff were incredibly kind, and the owner was especially welcoming. It’s inspiring to see his commitment to the community. Note: It is a scenic 10–15 minute walk from the main road to the hotel.

• Pablo (9/5): Un lugar con verdadero encanto - El personal super amable de 10. El enclave donde está situado el hotel es espectacular y se respira calma, tranquilidad y buenas vibraciones. El restaurante del propio hotel también está bastante bien y el ambiente de las comidas y cenas es muy familiar junto a os otros húespedes y el personal. El paseo desde el camino hasta el hotel no es para tanto como se lee en otros comentarios, son 8-10min caminando a ritmo tranquilo y el personal del hotel realiza el transporte del equipaje si avisas con antelación de la hora de llegada o de partida. Se veía un poco de falta de mantenimiento y reparaciones un poco chapuceras en las habitaciones e instalaciones por decir algo que puede mejorarse. La "carretera" de acceso al pueblo donde se encuentra el Hotel es bastante tortuosa como una carretera de montaña empedrada y mejor llegar de día al menos la primera vez, si se conduce coche de alquiler.

• Elodie (8/5): Cadre incroyable, séjour dans un établissement reposant, propre, naturel et agréable. - L'emplacement est en pleine nature, le cadre est magnifique et se mérite avec une petite marche pour arriver. La piscine, la qualité des repas et petits déjeuner. Le personnel est très agréable et disponible, malgré la communication en anglais compliquée. Les repas du soir sont un peu chers et inévitables (car nous sommes "au milieu de nul part"). Et malgré le cadre exceptionnel et la qualité de certaines chambres de l'hôtel, la chambre premier prix est très rudimentaire.
• Fulvio (9/5): Stunning view - The terrace offers a stunning view over the mountains and the ocean, and the bar, restaurant, and pool area are all beautifully maintained and very comfortable. The food was also delicious! Our room was very simple but clean and equipped with everything we needed.
• Paula (10/5): Green Paradise - I loved the peace of the place. Like a paradise in the middle of the mountains with the sea view from afar. This place is ideal for a hiker's break, ideal to stay isolated from confusion, a good place for a reset, or a place to share with your other half for a romantic stay ❤️ I didn't dislike anything, as I chose a place that was remote. Of course, if someone wants to explore the towns around Santo Antão (which is worth it), they should stay somewhere with better links to "colectivos" (a form of public transport). I don't advise bringing too heavy luggage, as the path can be tough, and I wouldn't recommend it to people with mobility issues.

• Erwin (2/5): Dit is geen aanrader!! - De medewerkers waren vriendelijk en het avondeten was ok. De kamer was erg oud en op de bedden kon je niet liggen omdat de veren door het matras heen te voelen waren. De badkamer was in erbarmelijke staat. Het zwembad was troebel. De accomodatie is absoluut niet hotel waardig en daarom zijn we ook een dag eerder vertrokken. De eigenaar weigerde restitutie van deze nacht.
• raquel (9/5): - Gostei muito deste local, pois é isolado de tudo. Fica no interior da ilha, numa pequena localidade que é o Pinhão. Ideal para quem gosta de caminhar. Até chegar lá temos de caminhar 15/20 minutos. Para chegar aqui temos de apanhar um coletivo (jeep de caixa aberta) que saí das bombas da gasolina da ribeira grande (mais frequente após o meio dia). O quarto estava limpo e tinha uma vista perfeita! O pequeno almoço é muito completo, com sumo natural, omelete, fruta, pão com geleias caseiras e o melhor bolo caseiro que comi na ilha. A Vânia, bem como os restantes funcionários, é muito prestável e simpática. Recomendo! A única coisa que melhorava é o colchão da cama. Precisa urgentemente de uns colchões novos porque estes são desconfortáveis.

• Branco (1/5): Do not come here ! SCAM ! - The view - asked double price when you want an upgrade - the first rooms are very small dark without anything. When you ask upgrade they say yes and will split the difference but pay at the end of trip - then suddenly the room is twice as expensive as on booking - rain inside the rooms - no hot water - breakfast is dry bread and some coffee - not friendly - did i mention no warm water ? - expensive NOT WORTH COMING HERE !!!

• Catalina Ana (10/5): Bona estada - Ubicat en un lloc privilegiat amb una vistes i tranquilitat. L’ubicació fa que no tingui un accés fàcil, el que significa haver de caminar uns 10 minuts pujant escalons fins arribar-hi. També implica necessitar taxi per moure’s, igualment surt un “aluguer” fins a Ribeira i allà és més fàcil trobar tranport i més econòmic. Menjar bonissim. El fet de berenar i sopar tots junts, fa que es creiin bones relacions amb els altres clients. Els matalassos dels llits están una mica vells. Horari de berenar comença un poc tard per si es vol sortir d’hora per fer alguna excursió, igualment, si no es berena allà es pot demanar per endur.

• Virgínia (9/5): Vista magnífica - Ideal para quem quer sossego na natureza. O caminho que tem de se fazer vale a pena pela localização! Recomendo! O hotel é muito simpático e bem decorado e por ser tão remoto, oferece todas as condições para não ter de se sair. O único que tenho a apontar, é a necessidade de novos colchões nas camas e talvez o investimento numa máquina de secar a roupa, o tempo é húmido e os lençóis ficam um pouco húmidos também (há que notar que a localização, de difícil acesso, não permite que as instalações tenham uma logística mais desenvolvida)
• Joana (7/5): - A vista é incrível por onde quer que se olhe, e as funcionárias foram todas extremamente simpáticas e atenciosas. É mesmo retirado, é demasiado difícil lá chegar, não é indicado para quem quer explorar a ilha e fazer caminhadas. O pequeno-almoço começa tarde, já se chega às trilhas a meio do dia. Havia uma máquina trituradora na cozinha que fazia um barulho terrível, especialmente no meu quarto que era mesmo abaixo da cozinha.
• Cláudia (9/5): - Gostei da localização, apesar de ser um pouco difícil acesso, mas muito linda a paisagem, o local também, com piscina e muito sossegado. Os funcionários são muito atenciosos também. A comida esteve muito muito boa, servem almoço e jantar a bom preço. O quarto (orange room) tinha poucas janelas para ventilação, sorte que o local é muito fresco. Também era mesmo à entrada do estabelecimento o que trazia um pouco de falta de privacidade.

Tem uma escadaria grande antes de la chegar mas o sítio vale cada escada, e para quem precisa tem pessoas que ajudam com as bagagens. O staff é muito simpático e atencioso. • Julie (10/5): Merci à Joanna et aux filles pour leur accueil, leur réactivité et leur bonne humeur. Ce lieu hors du temps est un vrais - Caché dans la vallée, il offre une déconnection sans précédent. Le petit déjeuner et repas sont excellent et copieux pour permettre de tenir pendant les randonnées, avec des produits faits maison, jus, confitures, thé,... L’ambiance est conviviale et permet de rencontrer d’autres randonneurs. Les espaces communs sont également très agréables avec une vue de la piscine à couper le souffle ! Nous avons tout apprécié mais il faut quand même savoir qu’il y a 20-30 min de route à faire en quittant la route du littoral, sur un chemin escarpé cependant les taxis ont l’habitude. Il y a également 5-10 min de petit chemin à faire à pied avec des marches pour rejoindre THE RETREAT mais le panorama en vaut largement le coup.

O acesso é difícil porque tem de se deixar o carro longe e fazer uma caminhada e mais 160 degraus.🙂 Aconselho a levar uma pequena mochila e sapatilhas. Hotel pitoresco mas super enquadrado no ambiente de Santo Antão. Espaço extetior muito agradável l. Recomendo para uma boa aventura a recordar! O staff muito simpático. Pela localização é inevitável ter de fazer o jantar no alojamento. Quanto ao jantar relação preço qualidade fraca! Dois jantares 35€. Pequeno almoço saboroso mas com pouca oferta. A melhorar!

• Corina Paula (8/5): Precioso alojamiento entre montañas - El alojamiento fue estupendo. Lo que más nos gustó sin duda eran las zonas comunes, la piscina y las magníficas vistas que hay. La habitación era muy cómoda aunque echamos en falta que el baño tuviera puerta. El desayuno era abundante y se han adaptado en servírnoslo un poco antes los días que teníamos excursiones organizadas pronto. Nos ayudaron con las maletas a la llegada ya que hay un camino con escaleras de unos 15 minutos desde donde dejan los transportes. En las habitaciones hay algunos insectos ya que son muy respetuosos con la naturaleza, a nosotros no nos molestó, pero es algo a saber por si a alguien no le gustan. Cenamos en el alojamiento dos días, uno de ellos pedimos atún y estaba bastante seco aunque el plato era abundante y tenía muchos acompañamientos.

The staff was not overwhelmingly friendly, but I do believe that these very young women are doing their best to run the place. Good working hot shower!

• Sally (7/5): Extraordinary location - Amazing location, efficient and helpful staff and tasty meals. Extraordinary terrain to explore all around The Retreat. Great views from the roof terrace. Breakfast was a bit strange and left me hungry!. Would prefer fruit/nuts/muesli. The bread was always dry. Nice cake though! Other meals were good and varied. The curtain in our bedroom was broken. And the dining area was cold in the evening. The manageress was very good but was clearly tired! No days off until May is not right!
• David (10/5): Thanks for your hospitality !! - We stayed at The Retreat in December and had a fantastic time. The Irish owner (we can’t remember his name) was really welcoming and did his best to make every guest feel at home. You can tell that he truly loves the island, his job and has a passion for hospitality. The meals in the evening were tasty and copious. Nothing was too much in terms of dietary requirements. Dinners were shared as a group which was really handy to get to know people and share experiences and best treks. On the last morning we were going back to the harbour and he gave us a lift. Thank you for a lovely time, we hope to be back at the Retreat soon as it was our favourite place on this beautiful island.
