Guest Reviews
- Pauline (7/5): - Very unique character, loved its history. Felt like you were stepping back in time. Dog poo next to front door
- Dhammika (9/5): Very enjoyable stay and will definitely stay there again someday. - Excellent location, very relaxing and peaceful and great view. Comfortable bed, very enjoyable stay. There was no milk with the tea and coffee facilities.

- Cathryn (9/5): A peaceful retreat in the treetops! - The accommodation is unique and has wonderful character, feels very welcoming and peaceful. Hosts were helpful and responsive, made it easy to book and make our travel arrangements. We stayed in the spring and found the fire was enough to keep us warm. Amenities were good, kitchenette had everything we needed - loved the manual coffee grinder! Thank you so much! Wifi suitable for light use only. Fire was lovely but can be smokey in the rooms. We didn't mind at all but for other people if they have sensitivity to smoke they should be aware it permeates the both rooms of the accommodation when the fire is in use.
- Guest (5/5): Absolutely stunning location and love the heritage themed furnishings. The fireplace needs some work - Amazing location and views of the forest and proximity to Araluen The fireplace must be leaking smoke in the chimney, it was very smokey on the second floor making it difficult to sleep. I even made sure the window on ground floor was open to ensure the draft would make the smoke go up The chimney beforehand. The sink on second floor was partially blocked. The dishes on the sink were not cleaned properly by the previous guests.
- Roy (8/5): Satisfied - Location and privacy Bit chilly
- Helen (9/5): - The location was brilliant and the log fire very cosy, if a bit smokey. The showerhead needs cleaning or replacing so that water comes out properly.
- Edward (8/5): Very lovely relaxing couple of days, thank you - Only concern that stood out was the safety of the stone steps from the car paving area, top step could be wider.
- Kayleigh (10/5): -
- Bek (8/5): Very good - It's amazing how peaceful it is, and not that far from city centre (driving). Good switch off, short vacation spot. I didn't realise it cost extra for wood for the fire.
- Donna (2/5): Rustic old world charm does not mean dirty, cluttered, unkept with no maintenance. - Sadly, nothing the advertised photos are very old.
How on earth did this get 8.2 Very Good reviews??? The guest house description omitted 4 very important details and if I had known any one of these, I would not have booked. It is unacceptable that the first time you find out is after its fully paid and you are at the guesthouse with your bags!
1. It is attached to owners residence, its not private at all (you can hear them).
2. Only access is by dangerous steep stairs.
3. Bathroom is absurdly small, you step out of the shower onto the toilet (shower also had mould, cracked tiles, blocked shower head).
4. Swimming pool with garden view, terrace and bar - this is the owners private pool, you have to walk onto their deck (covered with stored junk) past their front door and lounge windows and into their back yard where you have no privacy. The house you see in the advertised photos is their residence.
Front door to guesthouse severely weathered, timber veneer peeling and flimsy to close/lock. I could push it open easily.
Dirty inside and out - frypans filthy and only watered down dishliquid to try to clean. The walls covered with grime and dust/cobwebs (light globes yellow so you dont notice) but I turned on the bedside lamp and the light shone up the walls and we were horrified. The windows were smeared and dirty, outside area covered in dust and spider webs.
BBQ - again filthy.
Bed - hard and squeaked violently everytime I rolled over. The pillows were lumpy and I was afraid to look inside the pillowcase. We both woke up sore and could not face another two nights.
Outdoor garden - wild, weeds, unkept but it was nice to listen to the birds in the trees.
Pet friendly - we took our two small well behaved dogs who loved to sniff around the wild yard, until the owners two dogs came out aggressively chased them back inside the house. No fences so the owners dogs can go where ever they like and roamed around outside.
We booked and paid for 3 nights but left after one. Sent an email to the owners Paul and Abei who clearly have no interest, as did not respond.
- Zoe (9/5): Superb -
- James (10/5): One of the best short stays. My girls loved the pool and pebbles❤️ - The guest house was excellent and the surrounding garden was beautiful. Nothing, it was perfect
- Camila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bec (5/5): Peaceful and close to Araleun - Beautiful work on the presentation and the silence is perfect. A lot to f consideration has been given to the olden day feeling. It was odd to have to walk over the owners verandah and past their living areas to get to the pool.
There is no lock on your side of the door between the owners connecting house and the cabin, this creates insecurity. Could be rectified by adding a lock on the visitors side of the door.
- Stephanie (8/5): A lovely retreat close to the city. - No breakfast was available. The host provided milk for tea and coffee when requested. Fly spray for ants on the outside area. Long life milk provided for tea and coffee.
- Nimrod (10/5): Very inviting, very well decorated - Paul was wonderful and so was his dog, Pebbles. She stole our heart ❤️
- Nick (6/5): Pleasant -
- Brad (7/5): Good -
- Bethany (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation is so cosy, big open fire to relax in front of. The bedroom feels like you are in a tree house with the big picture windows looking over the trees and the hills. Also so quiet, just can hear bird song. This was the second time we have stayed, will be back again for sure! Nothing
- Linda (5/5): Pleasant stay but spoilt by the soot smell - The location was great and very quiet The accommodation had a nasty smoky smell due to the soot from the open fire which was all through the unit.
We had a challenge finding the light switches and needed help from the owner.
- Melissa (4/5): Disappointing - The location is very pretty, and the fireplace was a nice aesthetic Access is very limited. Spider webs and dust everywhere, no ability to get a suitcase up the very narrow stair case.
We could hear the residents in the adjoining premises and the whole place felt off like we were being watched....we actually ended up leaving early and only staying 1 night
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarka (9/5): A very peaceful and tranquil experience. - Amazing tranquil location surrounded by nice farms, botanical garden nearby, cafes, etc.. amazing to watch birds and soak up the fresh air and peace to escape the daily rush. Very unique place with many unique features, history and rustic style. Was very nice to meet the owner and have a few chats, very helpful and available when we needed something.
Many beautiful nature walks in the area. Very grateful for the experience. Thanks.
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ivana (9/5): Lovely gateaway - The view was amazing and we loved the pool! Shame about the neibour playing loud music at night.
- Russell (8/5): Very good -
- Linda (8/5): it was a nice place but but too much clutter in it … no radio or tv cups were stained ..bit dusty - very quaint nice wood lovely bed the rock stairs up to the house …stairs in the house …tiny shower toilet in same place as shower …uneven floor surface ..spiders
- Hesther (10/5): The hosts were so nice and welcoming and the place amazing - It is beautiful and unique Nothing
- Mike (10/5): Loved it, so tranquil , looking forward to coming back! - Very tranquil Needed more forks and knives, not enough for a family of four
- Jill (8/5): Very peaceful & fab location. - It was a cute little property with gorgeous gardens & an amazing fire place which was all stocked and ready for us arriving. Would be perfect for a couples get away.
The property was quiet & easily accessible. The “fireplace bedroom” isn’t a bedroom?
, it’s the living room with a fold out bed which was confusing when we turned up only to find one bedroom when expecting two .
The shower wasn’t overly clean.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Old rustic charm & location. Bedroom did get a bit smokey after having the fire going. Could do with an extraction fan.
- Christine (4/5): We were quite disappointed as it was not like the preview and certainly not value for money - The fireplace was great, The microwave was in a terrible position, under the bench so you had to sit on the floor to use the controls which you had to guess at as there were no instructions. Tea selection could have been better, not everyone likes Green Tea! also no milk .
The little freezer in the fridge was so frozen, looks like it hadn't been thawed out in months, so couldn't keep anything cold.
The shower / toilet was bizarre, you couldn't get into the shower if someone was using the toilet. Toilet seat nearly falling off. The fireplace was great except for the large windows without blinds, so all the cold came straight in and the heat went straight out, you had to sit right in front, but you back was cold. Found the entrance was quiet dangerous, as the stone stairs were mossy and very slippery.
- Anonymous (7/5): Loved the location but for younger and fitter people I think. - Beautiful spot and very peaceful The stairs. After a long drive we didn’t like having to climb the stairs.
The smoke smell from the fire got into everything and we had to wash everything after.
- Marcela (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful getaway - quaint and relaxing, we were nice and warm in the middle of winter. Thank you. Would be great to have a grill in front of fire as it spat little coals out.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Cat (10/5): Was a cute cozy night in Roley - The fire place and bed was so comfy! Couldn’t find a fork to eat our take away
- Rikeisha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevyn (7/5): Good -
- Juliet (10/5): Stunning getaway in the hills - The location was beautiful, secluded enough to feel like you were away from everything - but with lots to see and do nearby. The accommodation was stunning, old-world charm, and so cosy - loved relaxing by the fire with a book.
- Dols (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional - loved the open fire, so comfortable on a rainy night nothing
- Megan (10/5): wonderful place to relax in the bush and get away from the hustle and bustle - Beautiful property for a couple’s escape or in our case, a family getaway. Comfortable bed, gorgeous decor, really cosy and beautiful views. nothing
- Danza (6/5): Pleasant -
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - It’s a lovely and cozy place in the middle of Rolleystone. Surrounded by trees and bushes. The sunrise and nature’s sounds were amazing in the morning. The place was perfect to get away from the noisy city and relax after working week. Hosts were welcoming and kind. The house was very clean and there was everything we needed. Kids had fun swimming in the pool and playing around the property. We all had the best time.
- Yourself (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (8/5): Lovely hosts and a cabin steeped in history, very special -
- Dayna (4/5): Disappointing - The location was great. After arriving we had to make a dash to shop which ended with my husband having heart trouble and going to emergency at hospital so we couldn't return for our stay,I messaged to let them know and got no response at all, a bit rude but I guess they got the money for nothing 🤷♀️.
- Rachel (4/5): An awesome stay but needs better upkeep and maintenance. - Lovely area, and great service to hosts. Let us know if they weren't going to be around and helped with issues we had. Pool was amazing and well kept/cleaned. Alot of huntsman spiders. I understand it's their habitat but could be better controlled. House was very dusty and filled with cobwebs, didn't help my partner who has athsma. Small things like cutlery drawing very hard to find in the darkness of house and light bulbs and severely yellowed, hard to see in dim lighting.
- Rammy58 (6/5): Pleasant but disappointing - It's a nice, secluded location. I could not find the 'swimming pool' mentioned in the ad. Nor could I access the 'terrace and garden' etc as these seemed to be private and in a separate part of the building behind a locked door (at least the single key left for me did not open the adjoining door!). Now, I accept that this is a 'log cabin' type of place but the whole property reeked of smoke and ash (and this was in mid summer!!) The upstairs ceiling fan was inoperative so that was no help in clearing the musty air. While on the subject of stairs, the ad did not say that the only access to the bedroom and bathroom were up a very steep spiral staircase (not ideal for someone with a medical condition such as me). Though it's not essential, there was no TV (I suspect I could've used the wifi on my laptop) but if on business I would've thought that was a minimum requirement. Of course, all this stuff (and the pool I suppose) might have been behind the locked door area but I will never know as I couldn't get in there. IN any event, there were no clear instructions as to what was accessible and where various facilities were. It would've been a nice touch if there'd been a few beers and a bottle of white wine in the refrigerator as well, given that the property is so remote.
- Jones (8/5): Very good -
- Lu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (9/5): Superb -

- Charles (10/5): The perfect getaway - Everything, the hosts, furniture, the cozy fire, the bed. Simply a great place. N/A
- Dong (9/5): Superb -
- Cj (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - The location was very peaceful and relaxing. After a busy few weeks organising our wedding in the hills, it was great to have somewhere to unwind and catch our breath.
- Corinda (7/5): Overall a pleasant stay - Location was great for where we were wanting to go ... even though entrance was signed it could be made more visible from the road Fireplace flue / chimney must be blocked , whole area filled with smoke when we lit the fire . Went home smelling like a camp fire
- April (7/5): lovely little place may be better in warmer weather to stay again. - loved being up in the hills was hard to accommodate sleeping as was not able to use the bed down stairs due to no heating down
there apart from a fire place (could not light fire with a 3 year old in there)
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Kerry (9/5): Superb - It was very cosy and comfortable.
- Campbell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thiago (10/5): Great atmosphere - Amazing atmosphere, character home.
My son was delighted by the wind-up gramophone (still working!).
The fireplace was pre-setup for easy light-up Everything was fine, I wish there were rooms for 2 or 3 families there to come back with friends
