Guest Reviews
- Maarten Willibrord (10/5): Mooi guesthouse, vroendelijke eigenaren.
- Chamroune (8/5): Very good -
- Edvinas (10/5): Exceptional - The staff, breakfast and the authenticity of accommodation. Great value.
- Anonymous (10/5): Hidden Treasure in an Ancient Town - Linens Guest House is a private retreat nestled atop the gorgeous old city of Gjirokaster. We were fortunate to be the sole guests during our stay and had the whole space to ourselves. It was just as special as pictured, with cool stone walls, comfortable beds, and a tranquil setting.
We initially missed our turn but quickly found it on foot, and our hosts graciously walked with us to our car and directed us to the parking. Thereafter, when walking to dinner, we realized they have painted directional signage on the walls all along the drive that we just missed :D!
Kubeja is not far from town or the castle, and it’s a great walk to get to a restaurant or explore the town or castle above. Our hosts were gracious to let us stay parked for a few hours after we checked out so that we could explore the city on foot.
Our kind hosts provided us a delicious breakfast, sitting at an outdoor table on the porch near their door, secluded in their lovely courtyard.
We had everything we needed, a clean, quiet, beautiful environment and good proximity to what we wanted to explore. There was nothing not to like! I’d only encourage anyone driving to pay attention to the literal writing on the walls to make navigating easier. As with everywhere in old Albanian towns, the streets are steep and narrow, so bring your best driving skills. You’re rewarded by the view over the valley beyond and proximity to the castle.
- Lisa (9/5): Charm and character await you in Berat - This is a 500 year old stone house so you can't beat the character. At first I was disappointed not to have a kitchen but the hosts gave us access to the outdoor firepit and basement "kitchen". Breakfasts were delicious and while we couldn't communicate easily through a shared language, our hosts were extremely accommodating and welcomed us to their home. We were there in the spring and found the stone home a bit chilly. That said, they have a heat pump and provide lots of blankets.
- Gijs (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are amazing!! Super sweet, place is gorgeous and very clean!!! Good shower even though small but very good. 10 min walk to the center. We would definitely come back again, it was great!! Breakfast is also very good
- Art (8/5): Very good -
- Diane (10/5): Highly recommend this lovely home. The host made us feel very welcome and we loved staying here. - Beautiful home, spotlessly clean. The host is very kind and made delicious breakfasts for us every morning. Location is great - within short walking distance to the old town, Ali Pasha bridge, the castle and family run restaurants.
- Serkan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stine (10/5): Exceptional - We had such a nice time! The hosts are very kind and the house and the area was fantastic 😊
- Nawapong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Lovely rustic property, very peaceful but only 15 mins walk from the castle - Lovely rustic building, lovely couple who run the place, lovely breakfast No kettle or cooking facilities, but no do get a free breakfast!
- Daka (9/5): Superb -
- José (9/5): Superb -
- Ilir (10/5): Exceptional - Everything location owner cleaned Nothing
- Scheirman (10/5): Exceptional - Authenticity , welcomness The showers
- Balidoki (10/5): Nice day in Gjirokastra - The owners are very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast was perfect.
Location is very good. About 10 minutes light walk with children(5 - 10 - 14) to the castle or the old Basar. Driving on the sorrounding narrow streets to the house is a bit tricky
- Maire (10/5): Exceptional - You sleep in a traditional Albanian property, which is great The sweetest people run this guesthouse, they even did some laundry for us. They are really kind and make you feel welcome. The showers above the toilets are a bit weird (like other people already mentioned), but it was no big deal for us.
In the morning we woke up very early because the light of the sun was so strong in the rooms.
- Benoit (10/5): Great place to stay - Excellent place to stay with beautiful view
The breakfast brought to the room was excellent
Hosts were super welcoming Bit far from the main attractions and restaurants
Only one AC for the whole house
Only one of the bedrooms has real windows
- Tiphaine (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and traditional guesthouse. Breakfast was really good and served outside with a cool view.
- Heloise (9/5): Superb -
- Hero (10/5): Authentic private guest house with friendly hosts - Very authentic place with good value for money. The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodated all our needs!
- Eni (9/5): Superb -
- Victor (10/5): Exceptional - Great reception and breakfast
- Katrina (10/5): A brilliant experience of local hospitality. - Our hosts Mehmet and Narla were beautiful, friendly and hospitable people. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The apartment gave us a wonderful taste of traditional Gjirokaster living. Comfy beds, plenty of space and clean facilities. Breakfasts were sensational, made by Narla from fresh local produce.
- Heather (9/5): Stunning and authentic stay near the old town and castle - Beautiful and typical old home in an amazing town - very authentic. Stunning views and beautiful breakfast nook. Delicious and plentiful breakfast catering to our vegetarianism. Private and quiet. Lovely, helpful hosts who kindly did a load of laundry when we asked. Eager to help us navigate towards our adventures each day. We had fun communicating through google translate! Two adjacent bathrooms were each very small but manageable.
- Martin (10/5): The owners are so kindly🙏🏻 - Beautiful place nearly of historical center
- Jwhaveman (9/5): Superb - Very authentic place beneath the house of the owner, which is a nice person! Great entrance with lots of flowers and a lovely place for breakfast or as hangout. Quite a lot of space and lots of rooms.
+They have a garage for a car Not too much, small things which could've been a bit better. But for the price this doesn't really matter
-rubbish on the roof of the neighbour, where you'll look at all the time
-bit far away from the centre (we like this, but FYI)
-Bathroom in a small toilet
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Florian (9/5): Superb - Extrem friendly hosts. Very nice location on the hill, very nice to sit outside in the garden. To town 20 mins walk
Superb breakfast. Very cheap
A small downside, 2 of the 3 rooms are a bit dark
- Ermira (9/5): A nice stay in Gjirokaster - It's the perfect place to stay a few days with a group or with your family. The place is very comfortable and cozy, decorated in an antique and traditional way. From the front door there is an incredible view of the mountains. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and the traditional breakfeast they gave us was amazing and homemade with love. The place was well located but trying to find it using google maps was confusing. Next, there are two bathrooms with a toilet, shower and sink in each. However, they were way too small and the shower heads were way to close to the door. If it were one big bathroom or one bathroom for the toilet and one for the shower then the place would be perfect.
- Dániel (10/5): Exceptional - Authentic albanian guest house. Stone house in the old town. Good breakfast, nice view. It was bit cold.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. A bit away from the bustly center.
- Regina (9/5): Superb -
- Lisa (10/5): absolutely beautiful - absolutely gorgeous property , wonderful hospitality, wonderful views and perfect breakfast. so peaceful and beautiful x nothing
- Laura (10/5): Stepping back in time - We were met by our gracious hosts and provided parking in a private, locked shed. We were then taken through a beautiful, flower lined entryway, up to the house, which has a great view of the mountains. Absolutely gorgeous house. We felt like we were stepping back in time. The night was chilly, but there were plenty of extra blankets to keep us warm. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. It was difficult to stay connected to the internet. The beds were a bit hard, but that is very common in Albania.
- Grega (10/5): Exceptional -
- Armando (10/5): Thank you so much Memet! - Memet and his wife are such nice, humble and welcoming people that I cannot but recommend Kubeja Guest House. It's extremely quiet, views are stunning and it's just a stone's throw from the castle!
- Dawid (10/5): Lovely Guesthouse Run by a Lovely Couple - The guesthouse was run by a very friendly hospitable elder couple. Although there was a language barrier (no English spoken) I managed to communicate with the help of Google Translate. We could park our car in the garage which was really nice. Beware of the road leading to the house: it is narrow and steep, so be cautious especially if you have a large vehicle. Our rooms were in the lower section of the building, they were clean and comfy. The breakfast was good with typical Albanian morning food. Although the guesthouse is not located in the centre it is not far from it. Perhaps a 20 minutes' walk to a popular pedestrian street in the centre.
- Sebastien (8/5): Very good - Excellent breakfast, very friendly staff, nice original house. Good location, a little walk to reach the city. There's a parking box available. The bathroom is an experience, but we were ok with that (as shown on the pictures)
- Claire (10/5): Fantastic! - This place is wonderful! It's like staying with a real family in a 'real' part of Gjirokaster - but you get your own three-bed house with mountain views out the front door and a wonderful garden area to eat a wonderful, carefully prepared, fresh breakfast. Marsela and Kola were lovely hosts who make you feel looked after. They don't speak English but we could communicate enough to get by. And they even washed some of our clothes for us!!! There is no kitchen in the house but you can boil water there and ask the hosts for anything else you need.
- Belba (10/5): Exceptional - Cdo gjë perfekte, sherbim i shkëlqyer, higjenë perfekt hapësirë pafund ,super e rekomandueshme per dy familje 😃
- Norbert (10/5): Absolutly recommended - The communication went through the daughter Marsela. When we arrived her father was already on the street to welcome us. He let us use his garage so we had a secure parking space. A really great service. The accommodation is well located and everything is within walking distance. We got great varied (vegetarian!) breakfasts. The breakfast table is very romantic in the garden under an arcade. Thank you very much for the wonderful stay. -
- Julie (10/5): Warm and welcoming experience - We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you for your warm hospitality and attention to details. We loved the guesthouse and were very comfortable. We especially loved the cats 😊We look forward to returning again! Everything was great!
- Jelena (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was excellent - perfectly clean house, tasty breakfast, beautifully decorated historic building with separate entrance and very comfortable courtyard. Lovely family that warmly welcomed us.
- Denis (10/5): Good communication with the hosts and very comfortable stay. - The breakfast was great! We arrange the time for it the night before with the host so that was convenient. The location is great, very close to the old town where all the spirit of the city is. Just be aware that the roads are steep and the streets are narrow if you're arriving at night.
If you look up Gjirokastra on google and see the images of the place, be sure that one of the old townhouses you see is most probably one of the houses you'll stay in if you pick this place :)
