- Paulette (9/5): Cosy, comfortable and a great location. - Excellent central location. The cottage was very well equipped for self catering. The bed was comfortable with good quality linen. Only a few meters from the Bread Fridge and the sourdough bread was delicious. Excellent communication with Karen the host. Nothing
- Irene (8/5): A pleasant place to stay and relax! - The cottage was in a perfect location it’s sort of midway on the island and this made it easy for us to travel about and sight see. I enjoyed my stay at the cottage. It was a peaceful place and I appreciated the nature surrounding the cottage….
.
- David (9/5): Cozy and comfortable and a great location. - Location. Central to both ends of this beautiful island. Great WiFi. Totally comfortable. Air con and heat. An open fireplace if that’s your thing. A few hundred metres to the famous bread fridge. 10 minutes drive to the Neck. Wildlife wandering at dawn and day an outside your door. This cottage is rustic and may take a little adjustment for some people, but once you get used to it you’ll love it. If you’re an Apple user (phone, iPad, Mac) you will need to use that to access the Cottage Netflix account as there is an Android TV that can’t be streamed to without a specialist app. This wasn’t a big deal for us.

- Deb (10/5): Bruny getawau - Fabulous stay !! Friendly hosts ,great location and everything and more needed for a comfortable stay .well equipped kitchen ,super comfotable bed ,lovely bottle of chilled wine in the fridge upon arrival .had the pleasure of meeting stephen when were were packing to leave
We didnt want to leave and will definitely stay on our next trip.thanks so much Karen and Stephen Nothing
- Pei Ling (10/5): Excellent location and plenty of home comforts - Central location and accessibility to places in Bruny
View and aspect peaceful from deck
Good privacy
So close to nature
Extensive kitchen facilities and supplies including garlic and large cooking pots
Appreciated fresh bread and quality tea and coffee
Laundry facilities
Deck to relax with cuppa and book
Sightings of wedgetail eagle
Helpful and friendly hosts
Down the road from the bread fridge
Comfortable and spacious accommodation Wish there was a composter or worm bin.
Maybe a small track behind the property for small morning or evening walks without having to drive away
- Elisabeth (8/5): Well equipped comfortable cottage with lovely hosts - Lovely little well equipped cottage (including laundry, fireplace, electric blanket) on the South Island of Bruny. Stylish and comfortable, good location for exploring both islands. Stephen and Karen are lovely attentive hosts - great communication prior to arrival and Stephen stopped by to make sure we’d settled in well and to give recommendations for dinner and things to do. The cottage is right on the main road and while there isn’t a lot of traffic (even during high season), it’s not as quiet as we’d hoped and there’s not much in the way of a view.
And a few extra towels would have been appreciated.
- Smith (7/5): It was cold, windy and wet, but we were warm inside and in the middle of the island! - Fire in the evening! Had all we needed to cook and live! It was cosy and warm! Just down the road from the bread fridges!
- Dori (9/5): Comfortable, relaxing, quiet. - Offered everything needed for our 4 day getaway. Enjoyed the surrounding wildlife including evening sightings of white wallabies. N/A
- Karin (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Whole house, so plenty of space. Kitchen was well provisioned. Aircon and wood-burning stove both available for heating. No heating in bathroom so got quite cold
- Lai (9/5): Calm bush setting - Location - in well-treed area away from any hustle and bustle. The roadside Bread Fridge nearby was interesting and smelled good even when all the bread was gone. Have varying success at lighting the wood heater, despite trying different wood arrangement and adding kindling in the burner.
- Dianne (10/5): Lovely stay for a couple - Everything was provided for a lovely stay
- David (9/5): Excellent accommodation, owner was very helpful - Very central to all attractions No free to air tv
- Elizabeth (10/5): Everything we wanted - Everything. It was cosy. Located in bush land, walking distance from the bread spot, a short drive to other key features . Fire had been set and spare wood stacked. Cottage was well supplied eg cosy bed and towels, cleaning and cooking items. Owner very helpful. Fabulous little verandah orientated perfectly for morning sun. We liked everything cause we wanted a private simple stay. It wouldn’t suit people who are looking for glamour or hectic nightlife 🤣
- Gwen (9/5): Loved it - Location on main road, but noise not an issue as all traffic seemed to cease by 2200. No TV reception, and no instructions to access it if it was available.
- Patricia (8/5): A quaint old cottage with country charm in close proximity to Bruny Island's scenic coast and forest - The cottage was as we expected, a typical old country "beach house" but in the bush. Location on the main Bruny road was close to many activities, especially walks in the bush and along the coast. The cottage was roomy with large kitchen area and lounge room. Laundry facilities were good and shower, although small, provided plenty of hot water. Location at Allonah had a pub and small store plus post office. A much larger general store is located at Adventure Bay, a 15 minute drive. A feature of the cottage is the wood fire, which we used every night and adds to the old world ambiance. Location of the cottage is a 35 - 40 minute drive from the ferry terminal, which we didn't quite understand from the directions given. It may be our lack of technical expertise but we couldn't get the TV to work at all, getting a continual "No Signal" message.
- Heather (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - Location was fantastic, was very good area close to all thing we wanted. Cosy comfortable bed, very clean, wonderful fire 🔥 that kept us very warm on a couple of cold nights, kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed to cook, large fridge. We were wise with water as they only have tank water and need rain to fill and haven't had much lately. We took our own water for drinking,.Karen was lovely to communicate with and responded very Quickly on anything I wanted to know.It really felt like home away from home. There is nothing I we didn't like,we knew reception for TV was not great so took or own entertainment, laptop books ect.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb - Enjoyed staying at Aruma Cottage. Everything was provided in kitchen and bathroom for our needs. The shower water was hot, great and maybe unexpected with tank supply. Perfectly clean, love the farmstyle kitchen. Karen was prompt in any requests and access to house was explained well. Location was great with beautiful views and easy to get to Bruny cruise terminal to get to our Wildlife cruise. Only comment would be it's a bit tricky getting between the bed and the wall, not much space. However, the bed was very comfy and warm.
- Edwards (8/5): Very good -
- Ricardo (9/5): Excellent value for money 👍 - Good Nothing
- Max (8/5): Very good -
- Jann (7/5): A very quiet spot as a base for exploring Bruny. - A quaint cottage, well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The host very helpfully advised us to bring all our food with us, which we did. However, we did get sourdough from the Bruny Baker fridge, just a short distance away. Fun way to buy bread! Although the cottage was fairly light and bright, in the evenings, the lights were a bit dim, and there is no light above the handbasin in the bathroom, where the only mirror is. We are over 70, so light matters to us and another mirror for checking full length would have been nice.
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Cornelia (7/5): Go for it If you’re adventurous - It’s a lovely cabin. We liked it.
Just a shame the toilet and shower are in the hallway have a questionable smell.
Also the owner didn’t respond anymore after the internet broke. So make sure you have a sim and hope the nothing else breaks. The owner doesn’t respond to things going wrong apparently.
- Raymond (7/5): Aruma Cottage. - Location very central , everything provided , want for nothing , even complimentary wine! Traffic coming past was noisy , need to reduce speed limit to 70k.Free to air TV would have been good.
- Hervé (9/5): Peaceful and well located house to discover Bruny Island - Easy to communicate with Karen by text. She was kind enough to let us in before check-in time. Not too difficult to find the house on the left-hand side of the main south-western road past the "baker's fridge" on the right-hand side.
Well furnished, stove top, crockery, reversible A/C, fridge, heating blankets, etc. There were some issues with the Wifi but Karen offered us a late check out to compensate, which was a very commercial and appreciated gesture.
Very quiet during the night. There should be a little, even inconspicuous sign, like a red mark or something to indicate where the house is on the road, as when we came back northbound we almost missed the house a few times.
Some issues with the WiFi, difficult to make it work, but I hope it is fixed now.
Some water system noise in the morning coming from the ceiling, maybe something Karen would like to have a look at.
Some traffic noise in the morning but only after the first ferries arrive, so not too early and after dawn anyway.
- Lynne (8/5): Can recommend the accomm. Comfortable 4 nights' stay allowed plenty of time to explore Bruny fully. - Peaceful quiet location surrounded by beautiful trees. On main road, so easy access to all activities by car (great food, atmosphere at nearby Hotel Bruny). Great facilities inc large kitchen/dining area. An older house that has been refreshed beautifully with modern furnishings and fresh paint, making it a light, bright and cosy stay. Snuggly electric blankets on bed. Lovely wood fuelled fireplace (we didn't use) plus wall-mounted aircon. Really appreciated the supply of red cellophane to cover our torch so we could more safely view the incoming little penguins and shearwaters at the rookery at the Neck - that was great. Highlights of our 5 days inc Bruny boat cruise, scenic flight, Hotel Bruny, cheese shop, Get Shucked oysters, lookout and rookery at the Neck. A very minor issue but milk supplied for tea/coffee was 'extra light' (prefer normal milk). Aircon remote is confusing with no instructions so getting heat was some guesswork and tricky. Smart tv had no free-to-air channels but did have Netflix (we didn't use the tv but would have otherwise). No recycle bin provided.
- Jodie (8/5): Comfortable accomodation on Bruny Idland. - Easy to find. Good instructions for self checkin.
- Jodie (10/5): Excellent accomodation - Fantastic accommodation, private and everything you need and more for your stay, very thoughtful host. Excellent comunication. 100% will stay again. Highly recommend!!!
- Frances (8/5): Very good - Staff very helpful when I arrived in the dark.
House had all the facilities I needed. Weather was dreadful.
- Jenny (9/5): Loved our stay at Aruma Cottage - great location and well appointed. location and well - Spacious and comfortable with everything we required. Reasonably close proximity to the Hotel Bruny for dinner and Bread fridge very close! Loved the open fire! Karen was easy to communicate with and very helpful. Nothing!
- Mary-jane (9/5): Really happy we stayed at Aruma cottage. A bonus was seeing a white wallaby by the back door! - Basic but super-clean and very comfortable. No real views but other than that, Aruma Cottage is great. Good location. Recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not luxe but not a luxe price either.
- Antony (10/5): We would certainly like to stay there next time we visit Bruny. - The comfort, the facilities, the provision of all the internet entertainment websites.
The bushland surroundings, the lovely bread place. Having a wood heater to bring cheer on the cold nights. Good back up heat pump. The shower was rather primitive.
- Drucza (8/5): Very good - Bright and clean. No washing machine or free to air tv
- Linda (10/5): Wendell in love with Bruny Island, it has a very relaxed feel about it and the people of very friendly, we were interest - Wonderful quiet location, with nocturnal animal life all around us. The cottage was perfect for our stay, very spacious and well stocked kitchen, comfortable lounge area for relaxing and outside space for chilling out (if time allowed !). Small bedroom with a very comfortable bed and a useful utility room for hand washing clothing. For us the location was perfect as we were interested in birds and wildlife, it is in a rural location and very peaceful. Nothing
- Carleen (8/5): Small unique cottage. So cute. - That it was quaint & quiet It was dark to get to the loo so we left a night light for you!
- William (7/5): It was enjoyable and convenient for what we wanted to do - It was very comfortable and well equipped. It suited our requirements for basically evening bed and breakfast. It was fairly close to the hotel in Alunah which had a pleasant restaurant and bottle shop. Nearest store was in Adventure Bay as the local one had closed. Traffic noise could be disturbing during daylight hours.
- Greg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rhiannon (7/5): Nice but way too expensive for what you get. - Good location, nice spacious cottage, looks good in pictures. Shoddy renovations, such as painted over light fittings, whole cottage is on a noticeable slope, bathroom miles away from bedroom, giant laundry room but no washing machine, front door/balcony that leads to nowhere, dim and uneven lighting, very overpriced for a half-assed renovation
- Amanda (5/5): Not Pet Friendly or Wheelchair accessible - Clean, comfortable accommodation, driving distance to Alonnah centre and Bruny Hotel. Off-street parking. Large kitchen with everything we needed to cook a meal. Advertised as pet-friendly but is not the case, this was the main reason we chose this property, we asked for a refund when we were alerted to this but were denied so had to pay for accommodation for our dogs on top of this accommodation.
Also advertised as wheelchair accessible but is definitely not, stairs at back are a bit dangerous.
Road outside very noisy, but understandable as it's a busy road into Alonnah and beyond.
Small TV in interesting spot, no free to air TV but they do have internet and advertise you can use their netfix account, we asked for these details once we arrived but took a while to get a response, then when we tried the login details someone else was using the account, didn't get a further response until next day so couldn't watch their netflix until the next evening.
Some good games in the cabinet but unfortunately some games missing crucial pieces/bits, a pawn from the chess set and the cover for mastermind - the only two we tried to play.
Milk in fridge was best before 2nd November, we stayed 23rd-25th December.
Bathroom also in interesting position and toilet roll holder too high for smaller children.
- Antonia (10/5): It's perfect! - It's a cute little house right in the center of the island. It has a great location (also, right next to the bread fridges). Everything was clean and tidy, and the shower was hot with good water pressure. I had the best time and enjoyed my stay very much. The heating blanket in the bed was definitely a highlight, as it does get quite cold at night.
- Roxanne (8/5): Excellent venue, clean and tidy renovated cottage. Would definitely stay here again if travelling to Bruny Island. - Quaint 1 bedroom cottage, nicely restored and decorated. Everything we needed for our time on Bruny Island.
- Franziska_k. (8/5): Recommended - Fresh baked bread and others close by in an interesting way. The house was clean and comfortable. Going in the bathroom was really impractical, if you're being in the bathroom and someone else wants to bring something to the car or from. So the house layout is just a bit weird.
- Alison (10/5): Very Happy, thankyou for a great stay - Excellent central location. Exceptionally clean and well facilitated. I loved the outdoor fire pit. Good choice for a stay on the island. A couple of board games would do well in case of bad weather during a stay.
- Andrew (9/5): Even though the cottage was an older style, it was immaculately clean and felt very cozy. - The location and peaceful surroundings even if it was next to a main road. It was a large cottage with everything that was needed. Nothing
- Kim (10/5): Comfortable cottage with pretty views. - Pleasant, comfortable, good bedding and towels. Pretty garden and views of lovely trees. Host responded quickly to a question I had. There was traffic noise from the road during the day, to be expected from the great location on a main road.
- Agustín (10/5): Excellent experience - It was a great experience. It was all very clean and tidy, comfortable and beautiful.
- Helen (9/5): Relaxing and quaint - a great few days. Wish we planned more time there! - Lovely , well maintained and quaint cottage ideal for a couple. Loved the fire, and amenities were very good. Appreciated the lovely bottle of local wine on arrival.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Central to all facilities. Very quiet and night skies were full of stars. House was very cosy. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Greta (9/5): Cozy and calm :) - We enjoyed the tranquility offered by being situated amongst paddocks. The cottage made great use of the small space and we felt quite at home and cozy. We also enjoyed having the TV there as well as the board games. There was an abundance of pots, pans, plates etc and we felt like we had everything we needed. It was easy to get around and go visit other locations nearby from the cottage. We also liked sitting on the deck and watching the wallabies at dusk. we liked everything about the property but if we had one recommendation it would be to have a washer/dryer, as we often returned from hikes with dirty clothes and would have been nice to be able to clean them
- Walter (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (8/5): Very good - It was a comfortable place with everything we needed. We didn't find the steps leading into the place very good. They could easily become a trip hazard.
- Henk (8/5): private home with all you need for long or short stay! - private and secure place with a homely feeling.
kitchen was wel equipped, comfortable lounge with open fire good tv reception. everything was good 👍🏻
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jo (8/5): Bruny Island is fabulous and Aruma Cottage the best value - happy to recommend -
- Erica (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean and so many dishes and cleaning products in the cupboard. Ideal location. Bed comfortable and very spacious cottage Everything was excellent only minor thing was no ordinary tea bags only herbal. But definitely stay again
- Melissa (10/5): Great accomodation - Karen was a friendly host and was extremely helpful. Accomodation and facilities are very good.
- Grantley (7/5): Good -
- Belinda (9/5): Superb -
- Teresa (7/5): Good - clean cosy house in good location
- Michael (9/5): Gorgeous - Location was perfect, right in the middle with easy driving to all of our locations. Our cottage was immaculately clean and very homey and extremely well presented.
Fully self contained with a full kitchen was a bonus as we like to cook our own meals mostly.
Special mention to the Bruny Island rain water..omg♥️ We stayed an unusually long 8 nights,(according to the owner),for us it was the lack of a washing machine and fresh linen.
The TV was in an interesting place too..🤔
It’s hard to find too many negatives as we absolutely loved our stay ♥️
- Allen (10/5): Lovely cottage thoughtfully fitted out. A great place to stay on Bruny Island. - Thoughtfully prepared cottage a short drive from town. On the main road but minimal traffic noise. Smallish bedroom but comfortable and lovely sun coming in in the morning. Quality consumables- Twinings teas, Robert Timms coffee bags, plunger coffee. Really well equipped kitchen - stove, full sized fridge, multiple pots, frypans and pans, even a sandwich press and mixmaster! Good bathroom with very fluffy towels. Comprehensive folder with lots of useful information. No internet but Netflix available. The hosts clearly want visitors to be comfortable and have done a great job in that regard. It was all great.
Nothing to do with the accommodation but the queue for the ferry to the island was 2 hours for us and looked like closer to a 4 hour wait when we returned. No issues leaving the island.
- Kathryn (10/5): Private and cosy house - Private and quiet with well equipped kitchen and comfortable bed. Really good value for money. Spotlessly clean it is clear the owners really care about this property Nothing
- Dickinson (8/5): Very good - Was a great location, clean and comfortable. Excellent accommodation as a base for our weekend on Bruny.
- Collins (8/5): Very good - We were greeted with lovely Tasmanian wine and on the next day fresh bread & biscuits (from the nearby "food fridge".
- Vicki (8/5): Cute and quaint accommodation for our 2-night stay on Bruny Island with all facilities provided. - a nice location, with a short drive to the water and Bruny Hotel. A cute cottage. Fireplace was a bonus on the cool nights.
- Geoff (10/5): great accomodation - great location nothing
- Ken (8/5): Very good -
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisette (9/5): Superb - Peacefully surrounding
- Yuan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (7/5): Overall we enjoyed our stay on our first visit to Bruny Island - Location was very good for exploring the island. Well equipped kitchen. Comfy bed. Nice bathroom supplies Fire pit area was overgrown and unusable.
Written instructions for accessing Netflix needed.
Toilet sliding door only opened half way
Only one comfy chair in the lounge room
- Michelle (5/5): This was a bare bones accommodation which I wouldn’t recommend. - It was clean and kitchen was well equipped. It was cold and poorly heated. The kitchen was the only room with a heater
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (8/5): Awesome - It center of the island to get to anything. Was home away from home feel. Loved the fire. Pub down the road awesome meal an the bread fridge was real yummy bread. I got the chance to site the penguins at the neck an was lucky enough at the same place to see my first Aurora, even though is had rained we still did evenry thing on the island and travelled down nearly all the roads in a normal car. Would definitely stay here again owner was never nice an easy to talk to when I needed help 🙂
- Robyn (9/5): Solitude on Bruny Island - This is a really comfortable rustic cottage that has been so thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need. Though it is away from the settlement areas of Bruny Island, it was a really lovely bush setting and very quiet and peaceful at night. It is quite central to reach most attractions and the Bruny Hotel etc. The weather was very wet and cold while we were there but at the end of our walking each day we came home and built a beautiful fire to warm and dry us . The bedroom is rather small, but very cosy.
- Cathy (8/5): Very good -
- Jeanette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vickie (7/5): Little cottage on Bruny - Lovely little cottage with friendly feel. Warm and welcoming Needs a couch so you can snuggle by the wood heater, only really uncomfortable outdoor chairs and 1 tub chair. Sat at the kitchen table to read my book while my partner used the tub chair watching movies on his phone in front of the heater.
Tv in promo photo but wereunable to use it, sadly. Couldn't find any board games either
No bread knife or serrated knife made it really difficult to eat our loaf purchased from the nearby "bread fridge" along the road.
Unusual weekend really....bedside lamps were weird, globes pulsated, is that a kinky thing??
- Lian (10/5): we love it so much and had best experience ever! Karen is so kind and help when we need ! - amazing place we love it so much
best value for money!
great for couples!
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessie (9/5): Superb - The cottage was in a beautiful location and we enjoyed the cosy atmosphere. Google maps was unable to locate the property so maybe a sign would be helpful.
