Guest Reviews
- Leanne (8/5): Beautiful - Door code using digits from phone number was great- everyone in the family could remember it! Location was great- short walk/bike ride into the main part of town. Thank you to our generous hosts for the easter treat on arrival. The living area is compact and there is a single lounge that seats 3 people. There were four of us so that meant we didn't actually watch TV in the evenings (2 adults and 2 teenage boys) so we played board games instead on the evenings we were home. A family board game night was a great bonus!
- Anne (8/5): Comfortable and clean - Quiet location The cockies were pretty invasive
- fergus (7/5): -
- Amatullah (10/5): -
- Laetitia (9/5): -
- Jenny (8/5): Get close to nature. - The cockatoos on the verandah and kangaroos out the back.
Newish bathroom. Living area was quite small. O K. For two people but would be crowded with four or five.
- Kristy (8/5): A special weekend amongst the birds! - It was cosy and had everything we needed! Heating was amazing! Lots of birds!!!! So good!! The bunk mattress was quite uncomfortable- thin and bad for my back.
- Pawle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (6/5): Quiet location, great for a short stay - Nice verandah to sit on, quiet location, well equipped kitchen, good internet, good bathroom and hot water. Host was good to communicate with No laundry facilities provided. As we stayed for a week with three young boys, it was difficult. would not recommend if staying longer than 3 days. Cosy cabin if only there were 3. Small living space for 5. Couch could only seat 3, no other chairs, only the floor. Kookaburras were pests, could not eat outside, and attacked us while cooking on the BBQ.
- Elizabeth (10/5): A very pleasant stay, thank you. - The house was in a quiet area, not far from the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, with lots of trees and cockatoos. Standing outside, you could see The Pinnacle Lookout directly above the house. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very spacious and clean. Nothing.
- Amanda (8/5): Lovely back to nature stay -
- Yardley (10/5): Most enjoyable. Good walks. Good welcome info - In nature. Beautiful views
Had everything Nothing
- Malcolm (9/5): Very enjoyable - Comfortable and well equipped Nil
- Henning (7/5): Good -
- Angela (10/5): Fantastic weekend get away, absolutely loved our stay! - Comfortable Beds, had everything we needed, loved the wildlife Saucepans could be updated, everything stuck to them and hard to clean
- Kylie (6/5): Awesome nature packed area. - Loved the visiting of the birds and area was awesome The beds were uncomfortable, the mattress on bottom bunk was very thin so you feel the base and the main room bed is on its last legs it rocks when you move around and is too small. The Bbq was really dirty and so was the outdoor furniture. The back area was great for your pet though rocks are hard and no shelter for them and the back door is really hard to open and close because of moisture damage and the mat is too thick (I think) also there is no laundry facilities and the closest laundromat is in next town 29km away.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location and scenery.
- Sanjay (7/5): Good -
- Exfastway (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diana (10/5): Good - Convenient Nothing comes to mind
- Dave (10/5): Great accomodation for bird lovers - Great location and the birds that joined us on balcony were excellent.
- Samantha (8/5): Charming rural retreat - The shower was awesome The salami thieving kookaburras
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Amazing place to have a quiet cuppa and enjoy some bird watching! - Great location close by to the town. It was a typical cosy cabin but with a modern bathroom. Everything was clean when we arrived. The best part was the amazing bird feeding opportunities on the verandah.
- Chris (9/5): Great cabin with everything you need for a short stay close to Halls Gap centre. - Everything that was needed was there for us. The place was clean and tidy with fresh bedding and all the kitchen utensils that could be needed. Cooking facilities were great as were the fridge and freezer for all the food we brought with us. I know it's call Cockatoo Cabin, we are no strangers to cockatoos but those birds are a pain! They got into the very full rubbish bin twice which required cleaning up and an extra large rock and log putting on top to keep them out.
Of course they are all in your business, which seems cute but started ripping bits of window ledge off when they didn't get fed. They are like bored teenagers.
- Matthew (7/5): Good -
- Julie (9/5): The cabin offers exactly what it claims! Cockatoos too! - The cabin was well equipped and the host went above and beyond, leaving sun screen, tissues by the bed, bird seed to encourage the Cockatoos (and they came from every where!)
We found the bed a little uncomfortable but it didn’t spoil our visit. It’s a tiny cabin and space a little lacking but we weren’t inside much, we sat on the deck surrounded by cockatoos just like in the photo. My primary reason for choosing this particular cabin. We self catered and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. The bathroom, obviously renovated was spacious and the shower was invigorating after a long day out exploring.
We loved our 4 night stay and would definitely stay here again.
It’s centrally located just outside of town for quiet but easy to walk or drive into Haljs Gap.
Highly recommend. It sleeps five people but there wouldn’t be any where comfortable for them to sit after a days hiking.
- Mary (6/5): Great location. - There was no breakfast provided. The cabin had an unpleasant staley smell. I would suggest some scented candles to make the rooms smell fresher
- Patrick (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (9/5): was More than adequate and very convienient the cockies were a bonus - Cockies were almost too friendly at times but were always waiting to be noticed. location was perfect for the wedding we attended just down the road. had to make a minor repair to shower to make it more usable. .. took longer to find my screw driver than do the repair....1 cheeky cocky wrecking the door mat....
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fox (7/5): Fine - Cleaner & Better Cooking utensils
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Batten (8/5): Enjoyable - The location and the balcony The front door is very stiff so needed a lot of force to close properly and a good push to open. The bathroom sink is partially blocked so very slow to drain. The shower head comes off the holder too easily and sprays water everywhere. A lot of dust on power points and electrical connectors. Grill section of BBQ had so much caked on grease that it caught fire so I had to switch it off and didn't try to use it again.
- Denise (10/5): Great time with my boys and partner! We loved our stay. - Comfort, views and details. So relaxing and thoughtful. Very clean. Great location.
- Lianne (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (7/5): Relaxing -
- Frenay (9/5): Great location to all the Grampians had to offer - Kitchen outfitted well for self catering- fun on porch w/ abundant cockatoos. Close to town, but rural surroundings. Excellent modern walk in shower
- Lynne (8/5): Very good - no laundry facilities at the house or in the town for that matter.
- Ian (8/5): comfortable and quiet setting, loved the place - peace & quiet nothing , it was acceptable
- Samantha (8/5): Overall a comfortable and convenient stay. - Location and Homely. The cabin floor was very loud and noisy.
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (9/5): Excellent stay for the family. So kids friendly. Bed are comfortable. And owner is very responsive - It's a small cabin but so compact. We love the fact that owner provide us with little pack of birds food and we get to see and feed the birds so often. The kids love the experience. We also appreciate all the games, book, Netflix and plastic bowls / cutlery and booster seats... the owner made sure the cabin is kids friendly.
- Rashmin (8/5): Very good -
