Guest Reviews
- Linda (9/5): Great base from which to access parts of the Great Southern Rail Trail - The cottage is surrounded by beautiful greenery and an extensive garden. The silence is only punctuated with bird calls. Bird watching on the little back verandah in the late afternoon is a treat. The cottage itself is cosy and nicely set out. We appreciated having the washing machine. The carport adjacent to the house enabled us to keep our ebikes on the car and under cover and charge them up from an outdoor power point after each day’s ride. This is an important feature for travelling cyclists. Nearby Leongatha has two places for charging an electric car. What’s not to love about a cute and cosy cottage in such an extensive garden in a quiet rural setting?

- Sophie (10/5): Excellent stay at the Wallnut Cottage, a bird paradise we would love to visit again. - easy to collect the keys on the front gate. Code was provided in a timely manner. Nothing we didn't like, everything was wonderful.

- Chami (10/5): Amazing farm stay for a totally relaxed time.. - Excellent accommodation with all that you need.... It's in a beautiful farm with lot of farm plants and fruits....
House has all the necessary stuff for your stay...make sure you get your essentials from Leongatha which is just 8 min drive away... Host is amazing and always available for any communication.. Nothing really...all was good...
- Jessica (1/5): Couldn’t access property and host not contactable! - Arrived as per instructions however unable to access the property as were not provided with the key safe codes. Attempted for an entire afternoon (waited locally until 6pm!) to get in contact with the host without any success…
Stranded in the country side.. with two young children was a very stressful start to our “relaxing” getaway.
Bookings.com refunded us which wasn’t helpful as there was no other accommodation in the area.
The most disappointing experience:(
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Craig (8/5): -
- Gary (6/5): Owners dogs should not be accessible to guest -
- Jenny (10/5): Lovely cozy cottage - The cottage is gorgeous and very comfortable. The fireplace is a treat in the winter. Only a few minutes drive to Leongatha. We loved everything about Walnut Cottage. Perfect for us while visiting family in the area. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barber (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jing (10/5): Exceptional - A quiet and cozy country cottage surrounded by fruitful orchards, where you can see the bright stars at night
- Rohan (9/5): Superb -
- Ashley (9/5): Serenity - The isolation, yet close enough to go get provisions.
The friendly cat that visited us was a bonus.
- Lee (9/5): Cottage countryside charm to get away from city life and enjoy the countryside. - Love this place. Stayed over 3 nights and was looking for a cottage to switch off for a while. It has that quintessential cottage charm and woke up to birds singing. Really enjoyed my time here.
This place was also quite close to Leongatha town centre that it’s not too far a drive to get some supplies. But also far enough that you can enjoy the countryside. For some reason I wasn’t getting connected to the internet but since I came here to switch off and get some r and r, I didn’t need the internet. So this wasn’t much of a bother for me.
- Leanne (9/5): Superb - beautiful gardens, so peaceful
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frances (10/5): Loved it. - Beautiful property, lovely clean comfortable cottage.
- Susan (9/5): Perfect getaway location. - Cosy, well appointed, everything we needed.
Lush grounds, very private.
- Janine (10/5): It was the perfect environment to relax as a family and enjoy local outdoor activities during the day. - The country-cottage vibe complete with fireplace and cottage decorative items gave me a proper break from the city. But the cottage has a modern kitchen and bathroom for comfort.
The extensive and lush garden surrounds are also impressive!
It was the perfect environment to relax as a family and play board games. And during the day made road trips to visit Wilson’s property and other surrounding areas for hikes and walks. NA.
- Amanda (10/5): One of the best short stays I've experienced. - Catalin and his family were kind, generous and attentive hosts, making sure we had everything we needed to make our stay beautiful, and also respecting our privacy. It is a dear little 1890s cottage, lovingly restored. Being nestled amidst the organic food forest was truly heavenly. The earth and everything in it felt so good! Access for my elderly mum into the cottage and back and forth to the car was easy. And the surrounding area is gorgeous - rolling hills and so many historic towns to pop to for coffee and lunch. Highly recommended.
- Rebecca (8/5): Quiet cottage perfect for a quiet escape! - The cottage is beautiful! Quiet and secluded it is perfect for a much needed escape from noise and busy life!
Loved the friendly cat!
Ample dishes and cooking utensils.
Beautiful gardens.
Lots of blankets and spares. The pantry was extremely bare! You’ll need to bring EVERYTHING with you including oil to cook with, margarine etc.
Only soy milk was provided so bring your own milk too.
The supermarket is at least 10 minutes away and we were on motorbikes which made things a little less practical with bringing supplies. No stress! Just need to be a little organised.
- Karin (10/5): lovely cottage with a very beatyful garden. The right location for holydays :-) - This was a lovely, little cottage in the contryside :-) There was nothing we didn't like.
- Kylie (8/5): Very good -
- Janet (9/5): Very relaxing - Quiet country cottage. Lovely gardens Liked all about the property
But key code also opened another gate which proved a little tricky arriving extremely late/early hours of morning as sign could do with a little night light
But all great in the end
- Lisa (10/5): An unforgetable trip - The cottage was surrounded by an orchard if trees in a tranquil farm. The area was very relaxing & peaceful. The area was impacted by thunderstorm & power outage. But the local communities were helping out with each other whenevery they could. We were among those who were helped out by kindness.
- Andrea (9/5): Superb -
- Jamie (8/5): Incredibly beautiful and homey cottage - Clean, spacious and very beautiful. We were all super comfortable through our stay, loved the wood fire too. Easily book again! Advertised a breakfast and cheese board, didn’t happen - don’t tease us like that haha. Not enough to stop us coming back in the future just a small detail. Thanks again for having us.
- Xinyu (10/5): I'm living a fairytale! - My hosts Catalin and his wife are warm, friendly and super helpful!
I love the picturesque outdoor area and the homely cottage! I feel like I can make my home here ❤️😄 Not that I know of. However, it is a good idea to check in at the cottage before it gets dark, otherwise you might wander into your hosts' properly, but thank God Catalin very kindly helped me navigate back to the cottage! If you get stuck, just give Catalin
a call :)
- Tara (9/5): Great little cottage in a beautiful location. Hosts were responsive to any questions I had. - Great communication from the hosts.
Leongatha has all the supplies you need for food and drinks
Beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet location.
Modern bathroom and washing machine available. Another frying pan would have been great. The second couch isn't as comfy as the first one.
- Kwet (9/5): Cozy and comfortable cottage with plenty of space to relax and unwind! - The cottage was lovely, the facilities were clean and comprehensive, and the fruit farm itself was a joy to explore. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway in the countryside. The hosts, Catalin and Christina, were nice and friendly. My kids enjoyed their stay too!
- Geoffmz (8/5): Relaxing - Remote and quiet location in a fruit farm setting. Double bed not all that comfortable and some cobwebs in places one would probably not notice
- Fiona (5/5): Passable - House was cute Trees were very over grown on entering the property and near the carparking.
Main bed was very small , as big as it could be considering the space it had to fit but was up against the window frame which wasn't great when hitting it during the night, electric blanket was uncomfortable. TV didn't receive any channels!
Fan in bathroom wasn't effective therefor the floor was damp and slippery. Tea and coffee provided was out of date. Fireplace was positioned in dangerous location, no fire guard.
- Cathy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rodney (9/5): A peaceful place surrounded by garden and trees - Breakfast was not included, we brought our own We were happy with the accommodation
- Troy (10/5): Exceptional - Brilliantly restored country cottage in a quiet, picturesque orchard setting. Great amenities.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kellie (8/5): Great location that seemed to be a perfect distance to everything. - Location was great. Lovely place surrounded by trees. There was no wi fi and 4g was intermittent. Made it very difficult to plan outings.
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Aman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ingrid (10/5): Absolute Bliss - Walnut Cottage is so beautifully presented with so many thoughtful extra touches. Beautiful Garden a Rose lovers dream ,So many birds and critters. Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Peace and quiet. - The cottage was set in Beautiful surroundings. Very quaint. Very pretty. It everything you need. Fully equipped. Great gardens. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Peter (10/5): Back to Leongatha.
Memories of teaching in 1978/79. - Quiet. Scenery. Fruit box. Wood fire, just like home. Didn't stay long enough.
