Guest Reviews
- Ian (7/5): Lovely way to spend a long weekend - All was good and as expected with an old building. The location and facilities were generally good. The only thing we state is that the maintenance is not up to scratch. Main ceiling light not working in the bedroom, mirror light not working and cupboard doors not fully attached
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Leigh (10/5): This was our 3rd stay and we will be back next year! - Such a beautiful cottage which has been lovingly restored in wine country. Comfy and cozy with a beautiful bath and fire place.
- Courtney (10/5): We loved Cooks Cottage - What a special place! We LOVED the Cooks Cottage. The owners have done such a wonderful job of restoring this old building. It is quaint, cozy and warm. They were very generous with the breakfast offerings. It was all wonderful.
- John (9/5): Very pleasant short break - Clean, spacious and very comfortable
Historical cottage
Excellent supply of breakfast food plus wine and cheese on arrival Showering in the bath - water splashes all over floor
Very poor lighting in bathroom over mirror
- Andrew (10/5): The cottage was very comfortable, clean, quiet and well appointed. The food provided was very good - Very clean cottage and well appointed Nothing
- Susan (10/5): Excellent dog friendly accommodation - Clean and spacious. Set in semi rural surrounds. Generous hosts supplied a wonderful assortment of breakfast foods. Nespresso coffee. And a bottle of wine with wheels of cheese. Very comfortable stay.
- Rachel (8/5): Quaint historical cottage well located for a fee days in the Vale - Quaint historical abode well located for McLaren Vale and surrounds
Breakfast supplies and wine provided Light in main bedroom didn’t work
Few old cobwebs around that need attention
Not as luxurious as we expected for the price
- Lisa (10/5): Very comfortable and clean which makes a wonderful place for a getaway 😊 - Breakfast supplies were awesome and the welcome cheese and wine just perfect. All of the added extras were amazing 😊 The burrs outside were a bit of an issue but that’s because we have a very fluffy dog
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional - Great hosts Location and facilities

Lovely hosts
Great location
- Thea (10/5): Loved it, we will be back - It was a beautiful cottage, so nicely renovated and we loved seeing the story of what it had been developed from. The hosts were lovely and friendly, the wood fire was so nice and cosy while there was a big storm outside, the bed was the most comfortable bed and pillows I've ever stayed on in a rental place. Great location for touring the region. There were lots of beautiful birds on the property and a lovely garden. The bathroom was gorgeous, particularly loved the huge tub. The hosts had gone above and beyond with their supplies, perfect amount of everything and we just loved it.
- Glen (10/5): Charming cottage with all comforts perfectly positioned to take advantage of the region - Everything! The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed - with oodles of charm and character, perfectly positioned to access McLaren Vale and Willunga townships and wineries.
Sitting by the fire at night with a red or two was the perfect way to end the day.
The hosts Jonny and Anne are delightful and very accommodating. Nothing! Just that we had to leave
- Dr (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): Superb hosts and wonderful stay - everything!

- Tracy (9/5): A relaxing stay in a lovely setting. - A beautiful cottage, well appointed and lovely provisions left for breakfast and wine with cheese.
Located close to everything.
- Maxine (8/5): Loved the old Cottage and it’s history - Location and price Nothing really
- Tracie (9/5): Superb -
- Innercitytraveller (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely cottage character, spacious and elegant. Bed was very comfortable. We were there in summer but I imagine the fireplaces would be wonderful in winter. Even though it was almost 39 degrees outside the house was cooler. Kitchen was well equipped and hosts supplied breakfast essentials and a lovely bottle of red wine. We would definitely stay here again. Could sit and enjoy a morning coffee in the sun on outdoor seating.
- Trudi (10/5): Excellent cottage - The property was very spacious with a massive bedroom. Full kitchen and lounge area. The bathroom has a large free standing bath. There was a bottle of wine and a cheese board waiting for us on arrival. We have a lovely comfortable stay in the cottage. The owners were great and provided lots of information about the area and winery recommendations. It was also lovely to sit outside on the deck and enjoy the wine. Nothing
- Shaylee (10/5): Fantastic spit, amazing hosts and lovely cottage. - It had everything we needed. Hosts were extremely helpful and kind.
- Les (9/5): Superb -
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic cottage, loved it. Beautiful slate floors, comfortable bed, spacious, well equipped, lovely gardens. Everything great but just one design feature I would have done differently and that is to either have a shower separate from the bath or have the bath fixed to wall so that shower water did not run down between wall and bath onto the floor. That was not a problem for me but it would make cleaning easier.
- Edoardo (8/5): Very good -
- Emily (9/5): Perfect. - Spacious, charming with a new bathroom and kitchen. We loved our stay at the cottage! Complementary breakfast was such a nice touch. So close to so many beautiful wineries! We we’ll be back!
- Kirsten (10/5): We had the most amazing stay. So quiet. Best sleep we have enjoyed in a long time! - It was the perfect accommodation for us.
- Dayl (10/5): This is an ideal stay to experience the McLaren Vale - Location was fantastic being right in the middle of the McLaren Vale and less than 5 km to many of the better wineries. The fireplaces were a highlight and the hosts were very friendly and considerate.
- Therese (10/5): Great area to visit and the cottage was central to everything - Plenty of space All good
- Beverley (10/5): Very relaxing a wonderful renovation & historical background -
- Felicity (9/5): A fireplace, big bath, wine and a charming garden- divine for a romantic weekend away! - A wonderful cottage with beautiful gardens, fireplace and deep bath. Perfect for a romantic weekend away. Ann and Johnny are lovely hosts.
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hodder (10/5): Exceptional - The story the hosts shared about the place
The very warm welcome upon arrival
- Mprobinson (9/5): Superb - Beautiful cottage, friendly owners. Clean and spacious.
- Kate (8/5): Very good - We’ll set out cottage. Loved the wine and cheese, breakfast provided. Long way from town no taxis and hard to get a Uber
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (9/5): Beautifully restored Cottage with a touch of old and modern, situated not far from the town and wineries - Very Large Bedroom, Cosy lounge and Spacious Bathroom
Great log burner heating throughout the cottage.
Open kitchen/dining with everything you need in utensils, cooked Breakfast supplies
Lovely and quiet area. Shower over a very deep bath with no shower curtain creates a very wet area after your shower, potentially a little dangerous if you are not careful.
Maybe a shower rail hanging from the roof to place a circular shower curtain to keep outer area of bathroom floor dry.
Do need more towel rails to dry towels and wall hooks in the bathroom as space to put things very limited.
- Kevin (9/5): A little slice
of Mclaren Vale heaven. - Cooks cottage was more than we expected. John & Ann were wonderful hosts. We would highly recommend.
- Paul (10/5): Restful stay at a wonderful property - Met at the property personally by the host with keys and a quick story of the property's history and facilities. A wonderful renovation of a lovely character dwelling. Very central to McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Peninsula attractions. House had everything you could possible require for a wonderful getaway including very comfortable bed, 2 cosy fireplaces, charming new bathroom and kitchen, and scrumptious breakfast produce provided. John the host is very welcoming and we will definitely be returning to this property again. Very highly rated

- Louise (10/5): Wonderful ! - Private, extremely comfortable, large well appointed cottage. Johnny and Annie are lovely hosts, very welcoming and friendly. The cottage has been beautifully restored, has a great bed and facilities, everything you need for a short or long stay. it’s in a beautiful setting and close to all amenities by car. Nothing

- Belinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cadien (10/5): Johnny and Ann clearly want to make your stay as pleasant as possible! - House exceeded all expectations, Johnny was lovely (didn’t meet Ann), Aircon kept us cool in boiling temperatures. The house was spotless and exquisite. Would highly recommend
- Tracy (10/5): a wonderful location to explore and experience McLaren Vale - it was a beautiful heritage cottage that was so comfortable with everything provided
- Lucy (8/5): Stunning garden setting - Lovely cheese and wine provided on check-in. Beautiful garden! Had to wash the glassware, cutlery and cooking utensils as they were not clean. Suggest providing a better sponge and more tea towels so allow guests to wash dishes more effectively.
- Catherine (10/5): beautifully renovated historic cottage with delightful hosts - Cooks Cottage is a beautifully restored historic home on the outskirts of McLaren Vale. The owners, Johnny and Ann, are delightful.
- Teganaustralia (9/5): Superb -
- Jaye (8/5): Lovely location, comfy and relaxing. - Beautiful Location, cosy fire and comfy chairs and bed. Loved all, if I have to pick anything it would be the shower leaked a little and without a screen or curtain it was hard to keep the floor dry.
- Brenton (9/5): A very pleasant stay in the lovely McLaren Vale vineyard area. - Lovely old fully restored heritage building, loads of space, nice little kitchenette, plenty of breakfast supplies provided. Its rural setting was also very pleasant, yet only a few minutes drive to McLaren Vale for cafes, shopping etc. The bathroom, while it retained an 'old world' feel, just having an old style clawfoot bath with a shower over it was a bit tricky, and water went everywhere! While there was a television in the small lounge area, where there was also a lovely log fire, it would have been nice to have a television in the expansive bedroom area.
- Justin (10/5): I’d definitely recommend this place and would stay again - the hosts were amazing and great dog friendly accomodation
- Deb (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elisabeth (10/5): historical charm and comfort - A unique experience - the property has been renovated beautifully and was very comfortable without losing its authenticity. The owners are delightful and provided plenty of information on the history of the property as well as the renovation which was very interesting.
