Guest Reviews
- Michael (8/5): - Great spot inside the national park and the historical village.
- Samantha (2/5): Very average. Would not stay again - Mallee lodge was a good size and there was plenty of space. Kitchen well equipped. Rangers were prompt calling a plumber when the water pump broke The property was filthy & had clearly not been cleaned properly in a very long time
- Lynne (10/5): - The house is absolutely lovely. It was so cool on a 40 degree day even though there was no aircon there are overhead fans in every room. . View from bedroom windows to the sea. Set amongst trees. The location is also beautiful. A swim beach a short distance by car and many other beautiful beaches in the surrounding area. Lots of history to absorb. The kitchen has everything you need including cleaning products. Small fridge with freezer. We all felt very refreshed to be away from TV Internet mobile coverage is there but very limited. We realise how often we look at our phones when you have to go outside to get 2 bars to send a txt or check for phone calls. Amazing views from various locations. Not busy with tourists. Roads are mostly tar in very good condition. Gravel to some of the locations. Emus everywhere. So cute And Kangaroos of course. March flies which are probably only around in Summer.

- Langdon (8/5): Basic but comfortable accommodation in magnificent surroundings. - Location
- Kate (10/5): - We stayed together with two other families, a total of nine in the house. The house was roomy and well-maintained, the location gorgeous, and the facilities good. The kitchen was well equipped. I would love to have a chance to return; it was such a relaxing place to stay. There were only five outdoor chairs, which was a nuisance. It would have been helpful to have a second key, given that three families were staying. The hot water to the kitchen was a bit unreliable - we managed it by boiling the kettle and also carrying hot water in from the bathroom. None of this was a game changer, but our stay would've been that much better if these things were addressed.
- Christine (7/5): Good - The isolation of the location The flooring needs upgrading
- Charlene (9/5): Awesome - The huge space and breathtaking view. The bedrooms do not have heating.
Should have at least portable heater specially for cold weather.
- Adrian (8/5): Nice and relaxing - Location and quiet No internet connection
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Nature at it best
Spending time in nature and learning about history... especially where chalk was made Nothing
- Adam (7/5): Good - The location is superb. The place needs WIFI
- John (9/5): Comfortable accommodation in unique bush location - It's a comfortable and spacious house in a remote location. The house is a renovated heritage property, and strikes a nice balance between comfort and giving some idea what living remotely in the bush might have been like. I really enjoyed the property. The beds are a little soft. Also, there is no TV, Wifi or mobile reception. Not a problem for us (more a benefit), but not everyone's cup of tea.
- Robert (10/5): An amazing and unique experience. Just what was needed. - Such a great experience to stay in this house.
Wildlife, location, the surrounding ruins and history and a view that will be hard to beat.
- Michelle (8/5): beautiful secluded location with stunning views - the scenery, the ambience of the cottage and the abundance of local fauna lack of upkeep on this heritage property, it clearly needs more work upgrading the building & securing doors
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Russell (10/5): Seclusion, serenity and a great experience! - The location can not be beat. You are surrounded by history and stunning views not to mention the amazing beaches and hiking trails. At night you feel the serenity and seclusion. We couldn't believe how many stars you could see at night!
The seclusion helps you relax especially with all the outdoor things to see around you. Cleaning runs on an honour system and it wasn't exactly very clean. One of the rooms had an bad smell but as it was just the two of us we just closed it off.
Cleaning the house once we left wasnt overly bad but not being provided with a trying other than the mop and broom to clean with made just cleaning with water a bit hard.
There are no signs to get to the lodge once you're in the park so just ask :-).
- Kym (10/5): We had a fabulous couple of days worth staying a little longer - Location and surroundings were perfect, house is full of character, so much to do and see in the park. Signage could be greatly improved, especially for the accommodation.
- Bozica (7/5): Great experience, lovely setting in a natural outback setting lots of wildlife, lovely stay. - Beautiful natural bush setting with emus at your door ! Facilities were good for a restored home. Outdoor toilet but that’s ok! Everything else was great!
- Jason (8/5): Relaxing with plenty of great beaches to visit. - Spacious. Good location. Flies.
- Kerka (7/5): Good -
- Donna (9/5): Brilliantly done up accommodation with great facilities in a beautiful park - Location was amazing and the facilities were upgraded and better than expected.
- Clare (10/5): A great weekend with friends - The house was very comfortable. There were very good vanities. It was warm. The property is in a beautiful part of the world and it was an excellent stay. There is a real problem with Booking.com, not providing the correct information about how to access the house. We were provided a booking number, but was not told that we had to pick up the key from the visitor centre. In addition, the Access number we were given was incorrect. It is incredibly important that people know that you must stop at the visitor centre before going to stay at engineers house.
- Clare (9/5): Lovely place to stay - it is in a lovely spot.. house is very well appointed and comfortable. An excellent place for a group stay There should’ve been information in the booking about having to pick the key up from the visitor centre before arriving at the. This was very annoying and needs to be changed on the information.
- Bronwen (8/5): beautiful old historical character home comfortably updated. - location another toilet or bathroom if more than 4 people staying
- Sapkota (10/5): Exceptional - Location
Will book the same house when I Will visit next
- Nicole (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Tania (10/5): Stunning location - great experience to stay in the restored Mallee cottage. -
- Sudan (3/5): Poor - Spacious room, good view from the managers lodge. All needed kitchen equipments were there. Overall was Ok. Well!!! main thing is manager's lodge does not have attached toilet inside the house you have to come out to use the toilet and the lock was not working you literally have to hold the toilet door while being inside. To come out at midnight in the middle of national park to use toilet is not very good for safety reason as well. Phone and internet network does not work up hill, if you are in emergency its hard to contavt people, there should have been a landline in case of emergency.
