Guest Reviews
- Carter (7/5): This is a great place to stay as long as you understand it is rustic and are prepared for it - The positives, great location with kangaroos feeding just outside the back door and a beutiful creak running past just down the track. Close to the walking train for Dutchmens Stern. The bathroom in an enclosed verandah room has good hot water and the gas heater in the lounge was great on a cold evening The kitchen had the basics but we neeed toturn on the fridge on arrival and the kitchen was 1950s original. There was a more recent overn and a decent microwave and kettle but the toaster looked well overdue for replacement and some of the pots and pans had seen some hard use. the Toilet was OK but outside in an eclosed verandah so you had do go out the front door then ionto the verandah to use. Fine for us but you definitely got cold feet when getting up in the night.
The septic system also produced a significant odour so may need a refresh in the newar future,
- Kevin (3/5): Very disappointing, would rate as only two star max. - The location is quiet Poor facilities, no hot water on arrival, request to clean property on departure, no means of igniting gas hob, "outside" toilet dirty with spider webs, too expensive given poor quality of property, inappropriate poor repair to kitchen floor, poorly maintained dirt road access, generally a very disappointing experience.
- Sam (7/5): Peace and quiet in a naturally beautiful place. - Once the internal water issue was resolved 24 hours after arrival, the stay was wonderful. Perfect location next to great walks and wildlife, peace and quiet with everything we needed. Luckily the toilet was on a different pipeline so that worked the whole time and we had access to water from an outside tap.
- Annie (6/5): Pleasant - The setting is beautiful. The padlocked gate is too hard to use easily. Another group came on day 2 and took the key so when we returned 10pm we were locked out about a km from our accomodation! We had to remove a post to enter....not good!
- Richard (7/5): Good - Pretty cheap, warm and comfortable. Old style house, small and cosy. An ok base for Flinders activities. Main gate needs a key for each tennant so you don't need to keep opening the keysafe every time you want to go through the gate.
A few too many rules.
- Anton (8/5): A cosy place in the middle of a stunning nature reserve - N/A Outside toilet a bit troublesome
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
- Debbie (3/5): disappointed, not value for money spent. but a wonderful location - location was wonderful. Very very disappointed with condition of the house. Was very dirty and musty. no cleaning products provided. Was expected to clean house on exit. Had to provide our bedding, clean house before leaving yet the price was exorbitant for the condition of the house on our arrival and the furnishings provided were substandard for the accommodation price. Hole in the floor in kitchen was dangerous and requires a proper repair job and new Lino. Other broken flooring near stove unrepaired.
- Foster (10/5): Exceptional - Peace and quiet
No people to be seen Just maintance and cleanliness
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Great location in the conservation park in a spacious old house with a full working kitchen and with everything you need to stay with comfort steps from the trailhead of one of the region's great walks.
- Matthew (8/5): How’s the serenity - Very quiet location No phone reception
- Hugh (6/5): There was plenty of plates, mugs and glasses for catering for large group but no bowls at all ? - It's very quite place to sty and not far from Quorn.
- Valerie (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (8/5): Rustic Charm - Love the location, setting and it's rustic charm. Very well equipped kitchen. Comfortable sitting room and veranda with views. Beds are comfy, shower is hot.15 mins drive to Quorn. Easy access to walking trails DS loop and Heysen trail. Stars are amazing. The info email was missing the Homestead door code 😞 and no clear info on need to turn on the water pump on arrival. No linen or bedding is provided, makes it feel not great value for money.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (4/5): The nearby walks are beautiful. The house was extremely poor valve for money. - The only money that appears to have been recently spent is the warm gas fire. The location is excellent. Such a potentially lovely property but so poorly maintained and grubby. It’s a bring your own everything including toilet paper. We were there in heavy rain and the separate toilet and laundry/shower areas which are outside the front door flooded with water and mud. I opened the front door to a huge puddle of dirty water. My husband spent an hour outside in the rain sweeping as much of the water away as possible and creating a wall with stones to redirect the water. It was a mess.
- David (8/5): Excellent base to stay at while hiking and exploring the area around Quorn and Pichi Richi - Not applicable Nothing
- James (1/5): Bad - Great location No bed linen, pillows, towels or toilet paper. Was not told that we needed to supply them ourselves. For the price, very disappointing
- Hunt (9/5): it was excactly what we were looking for & my Canberra visitor loved it. - Fabulous. Peaceful, beautiful, great walking. Really liked to homestead, especially the gas heater. it was well set up & had everything we needed (except a dustpan & brush).
- Angelo (8/5): Very pleasant one night stay. - Property was basic but as described so no problems. The gas heater was very much appreciated on a cold night as was the hot shower.
Location at the start of our walk at Dutchman's Stern was perfect.
