Guest Reviews
- Paul (10/5): Gerald made our visit absolutely memorable. We would strongly recommend a visit. - It is ideally situated to enjoy the Daintree Forest: only 5 minutes drive to Daintree Village and all the cruises and forest walks centred there ( and don’t forget the pub), and about 20 minutes drive to the Daintree Ferry and the Cape Tribulation road. It is perched on a hillside, surrounded by forest.
Its architecture fits its surroundings perfectly, with huge living area contains many of Gerald’s woodwork objets d’arts, and an equally huge deck with magnificent 180 degree views up and down the Daintree valley. The kitchen and bedrooms are equally roomy and well appointed. Nothing of note: the drive was initially daunting but not a problem after Gerald showed the way.
- Jessica (8/5): Very good - Beautiful view from the property of the valley. Unfortunately the slope driveway limited our ability to be independent (without a 4WD). We were fully dependent on Gerald to ferry us in and out each morning and afternoon, and whilst he was very accomodating, and willing - it wasn’t ideal.
- Neil (10/5): Location was stunning. Outdoor bath was so relaxing. View spectacular - Full kitchen with all ammenities
- Wendi (10/5): Magnificent views and relaxing retreat. - Gerald was an excellent host and assisted us in our itineraries for the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. He knows the community well as hes been hosting for 25 years. If there was something we needed that was not already in the home, he was willing to assist. We wanted to stay longer! A real gem!
- Orhun (10/5): Cloud 9 is an exceptional place to stay in for a trip to Far North Qld, look no further! -
- Hastings (10/5): Exceptional - Unique house in an extraordinary location with a host who is virtually on-call.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Annik (3/5): Disappointing - The view from the verandah is amazing! Unfortunately the way the property is described does not match reality. The private residence that the host occupies is directly underneath the guest quarters and all activities from down there are audible upstairs (including his TV we had to ask to have turned down at bedtime) which means guest activities must be audible there too, and this is disconcerting!
Random sexiest remarks about what ‘ladies prefer’ and comments about them safely having an outdoor bath naked as the closest neighbours don’t have binoculars were also very off-putting.
Much of the space is either not well-maintained or clean including:
- Hairs on pillows
- Animal Poo on blankets in cupboard
- Built-up Dust and spider webs inside cupboards.
- Visible mould on furniture edges and architraves
- Crumbs in fridge door shelves and utensil cupboards
- Crockery dirty
- Floors generally dirty
After much anticipation of a relaxing stay this was all such a huge disappointment and we vacated the next morning, 2 days early.
- Elise (9/5): Absolutely incredible and peaceful place. A must stay! - The view and serenity from the deck and every room was incredible. Beautiful place, lovely accommodating host, and very relaxing. We didn't have a 4wd which meant we relied on Gerlad for rides which was a little restrictive. It didn't impact our stay too much.
- Anthony (9/5): Superb - Scenic comfortable and unique accommodation.
A unique home built creatively by the host Gerald has breathtaking views of the Daintree river. Peace and serenity with spectacular views make Cloud 9 a place you'll always remember of QLD's Daintree region.
Also Gerald's local knowledge and recommendations for places to visit, activities to enjoy and eaterys to try, we were ALL very pleased with!
Thankyou Gerald!
- Catherine (10/5): A unique stay in a stunning location - We stayed at Cloud 9 because it offered a unique experience close to nature and we particularly loved the birdsong at dawn and dusk. Like the house (which he built), Gerald is a unique and interesting character with plenty of fascinating insights on the Daintree rainforest and much more.
- Mccaff (10/5): Marvellous!!! - Absolutely everything. Encourage everyone to experience Cloud 9.
- Alfia (10/5): Exceptional - I fell in love with the home and the location.
Gerald was the perfect host. His itinerary was so good, and we enjoyed everything. I felt sad to leave as Gerald felt like part of my family.
We will keep in touch.
. All was great.
- Ann (10/5): The perfect Daintree place to relax away from it all. - Stunning, unique treetop location in the Daintree forest. Beautiful house with great facilities and the perfect host.
Gerald is such a talented craftsman with superbly sculpted works of art.
His knowledge of all the local wildlife together with the flora in his gardens conveyed his passion.
Highly recommended. No negatives at all.
- D (6/5): Beautiful views but a problematic host - home is not private. - The views at Cloud 9 are absolutely spectacular, the property is unique and is in a great location to enable exploration of the Daintree and surrounds. The property listing is deceptive - it does not disclose that Gerald the host lives on site and can be heard and seen directly beneath you throughout your stay. Gerald is a knowledgeable and friendly host but he made several sexist comments during our stay that made us all uncomfortable including stating that “ladies should go unpack in the kitchen” while the men unloaded our luggage, offering wood turning workshops only to the men in our party and repeatedly misgendering a guest despite being politely corrected twice.
His personalised itinerary for exploring the Daintree also sends tourists to a local sacred site where the Kuku Yalanji hold secret women’s business - the itinerary does not disclose this and this felt extremely disrespectful of Traditional/rightful owners, particularly considering how knowledgeable Gerald is about the area. He is no doubt aware of the site’s cultural significance.
- Nicole (9/5): Superb - The amazing view and wonderful host. Nothing
- Lara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (8/5): it worth to visit and experience the beautiful rainforest - the beautiful view the travel up to the property. it felt risky in the Ute
- Tp24 (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the deck with sweeping views over the Daintree valley and river, the trees, birdlife, and the outdoor bath. Gerald was a great host, and was helpful in recommending a great birdwatching river cruise. My partner really enjoyed doing a wood-turning session with Gerald in his workshop down the driveway. Great having a full sized kitchen to assist in being self-sufficient. We were fine getting up the driveway as we had low range 4WD, but if you don't have your own 4WD vehicle, Gerald would be able to run you up and down from Cloud 9 as needed.
