Guest Reviews
- Tony Egan (7/5): Good place to stay and close to everywhere you want to go in the Daintree. - Sitting on the lovely deck eating breakfast, lunch or dinner overlooking the rainforest watching the birds and butterflies.
Also liked being able to open the bifold doors and bring a little of the outside in. Didn't like how dark it was inside. Signage of house could have been better. We found the house by process of elimination.
- Ross (9/5): A perfect hideaway in the forest with elevation and an excellent outlook. - Great location in a largely forested area, with a wonderful view into, and out over, rainforest slopes. Lovely timber house with spacious living room and large bedroom. The verandah is perched over a steep bush garden and was perfect for relaxing. We really appreciated that a stove-top coffee maker (mockapot) was supplied and luckily we had a packet of ground coffee and a milk frother with us. It was essential to get supplies (supermarket in Mossman) before driving to Diwan. Bathroom was very dark. No soap, shampoo.
- Gaylene (10/5): -
- Mitchell (10/5): - Looking out over the bush while enjoying a book on the veranda. The quiet, the really good facilities, well equipped kitchen including a coffee percolator (although I did have to buy my own coffee grinds).
Clear communication, easy check-in/checkout. Thank you. It was remote, but that was also part of the appeal!
- Kyra (10/5): A beautiful house in a stunning and quiet location. -
- Lynny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carol (9/5): Great place to stay for peace and views. - This is a beautiful quiet location. Close to many great sights. There was a problem with the dead lock on the door and we couldn't open it. A very stressful way to start a much needed break. The problem with the dead lock was simple if you could get the door open in the first place. We found out the next day that we only had text communication option, which is not great if your phone was running out of charge.
We have since talked to Dean and he has rectified this problem. !!We would go back because we had no problems with the accommodation . Loved it
- Janice (8/5): Very good - Location is fabulous Sofa bed is very uncomfortable so not really 2 beds and because off grid hot showers were for about 90 seconds only.
- Sandy (10/5): We loved everything about it. Stylish, ergonomic, architecture off grid at its best. - A beautiful eco house set in the rainforest with a wide elevated deck to soak up the ambience. Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Rdcny (9/5): Great location! Magnificent View! Privacy and Isolation with amenities in the rainforest - If you want a great view into the rainforest from a unique home - this is the place. We are PhD biologists so the back porch overlooking the forest was amazing - with several species of honeyeater, friarbird and the Sahul Sunbird visiting every day. At night we had Rufous Owl - we easily photographed all of these species and a few more...so if you are into birds, this is your place. We liked the space and the absolute quiet...much better than the Air BnB we had along the road a few days before. We stayed here four days...Some notes: the ice cream place just down the hill is OK...overpriced for what one gets, but worth a visit. The best restaurant is just north along the road (by 3 miles or so) on the beach - open for lunch only, except on weekends. Get all your supplies at the Woolworths in town (before the ferry) - otherwise expensive...Mangrove park/boardwalk at the north end of the road (perhaps 10 miles) is free and very good for birds - but you must be patient. Finally to see a Cassowary you have to have luck mostly - we saw two here - but met many others who did not (but tried extensively). We liked this place a lot...and Dean is an excellent and very responsive host. Property was once owned by an entomologist and the garden is amazing with tropical plants...and trails. We stayed early July 2024...two people 65 years old...from NYC Overall house is wonderful but can be "fiddly" - remember you are off the grid here (but electric and hot water is/are 100% reliable)...so a generator will turn on occasionally (noisy). There is a compost toilet (works great and does not smell at all)...and the lighting could be better. There are switches for so many lights and fans - it can be confusing what one is turning on and off...and their is no microwave (and the gas stove top was not our favorite and some of the frying pans [cookware] could use an upgrade/replacement). Overall could use some upgrades in the electrical department but not a deal breaker as the view and isolation are superb...Price is on the high end for what one gets - but again, if you have it, this place is worth spending for as that view and the ability to photograph all day some really good honeycreepers, butcherbirds, the Lovely Fairy-wren and others (see our photos) - that was worth it! Dean is a good host - lives part time in USA, but has a magnificent house nearby...one last note: internet really good here so if you need to do work, it is fast and reliable.
