Guest Reviews
- Sarah (10/5): Hosts were extremely responsive, polite and helpful. Delightful cottage. Everything worked. - The fridge was stocked with wine, a couple of beers, cheese, fresh milk...
There were plenty of coffee pods and tea bags.
So thoughtful for a later arrival.
Bathroom stocked with bubbles, shampoo, body cream.....
The furnishings were eclectic and fun. Not the most comfortable bed and pillows could do with an upgrade. Pretty minor issue.
- Chloe (10/5): -
- Donna (9/5): -
- David (10/5): - Loved the old school charm, blended perfectly with new extensions. Bathroom was amazing. Nothing
- Italia (10/5): Superb! - Perfect location
Close to restaurants and cafes all in walking distance
Really want the simple touches the owners delivered cheese and fruit bottle of wine chocolates etc. Really made our stay welcome.
We also enjoyed the fun in trying to find a piece of furniture that was dated 1590
Great tips on different restaurants also supplied
Owners were really clear on guiding us with the information that was required for easy access to the property
Plenty of amenities in the house there is nothing more that can be offered
The owners have gone far and beyond to accommodate
Very close to Bowral and Berrima Bed was a little hard for me , I like a soft mattress . Having said that I still slept really well and comfortable.
- Phillippa (10/5): Kathy and Rod are the perfect hosts. I would stay nowhere else when I am in Mittagong for the weekend. - I love everything about this property Nothing
- Mark (10/5): A comfortable, convenient place to stay and explore southern highlands., - Location was very convenient, right in centre of town. Electric car charging station a brief walk away, restaurants, pubs, RSL, parks, antique stores all within walking distance, as was the delightful
Lake Alexandra. The underfloor heating and the gas log fire are great features in cooler months. And the thoughtful cheese, crackers, milk, coffee and tea provided was very well received.
- Kath (10/5): Beautiful accommodation in great location - Just an beautiful peaceful cosy home for a few days. Thankyou. Everything was well well thought out. A great place to stay and convenient for amenities and a beautiful area to explore. Shutting the door on our final day x
- Leigh (10/5): A beautiful place to return to after a day exploring all the Highlands has to offer - Everything was well appointed to make the stay comfortable. There has been a lot of thought put into what guests may need and placing things intuitively. There was a chair perfectly placed for every occasion and time of day! This made it feel like home. The hosts have left detailed instructions and also given local recommendations. I can attest to the Thai restaurant being excellent. The property is in a very convenient location which made it easy to drive to other nearby attractions as well as access cycling routes and bushwalks. There were also additional thoughtful touches including a welcome cheese board, wine and fresh milk. A longer stay! I would say it would be nice to have a more comfortable seat on the front porch as it was lovely sitting there in the last of the afternoon sun.
- Holly (8/5): Pleasant cottage with easy walking distance to central Mittagong and surrounds. - Heritage aspect, location. The modern kitchen had a good supply of utensils, pots and crockery. The underfloor heating was lovely. The mattress was too firm. The kitchen could do with another heater and some curtains on the windows and sliding door in order to retain the heat. Sadly the gas heater doesn't heat the whole house adequately.
- Alison (8/5): Very good - Cottage was beautiful kitchen and bathroom gorgeous. Decour was perfect. Thank you. Lounge was not comfortable and the bed was firm for me.
- Cheryle (10/5): Very relaxing. - Very cosy, close to cafes and supermarkets . Have stayed here numerous times over the years.
- Lynn (8/5): Excellent location, close to eateries - would stay there again without hesitation. - It was clean and beautiful. A lot of love has gone into this historical home and I really appreciated the efforts that have gone into modernising the rear section for ultimate comfort. The hosts leaving cheese, wine, fruit and chocolate was a lovely touch. Front gate needs fixing.
- Jaanvi (10/5): The hosts really went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and they were so lovely. Would definitely stay here - The property definitely is a little hideaway in Mittagong! It’s got everything you need to switch off and relax :) Everything was great!
- Vanessa (9/5): Superb -
- Margaret (9/5): Lovely cottage, great location and hosts were so helpful. -
- Phillippa (10/5): Definitely my go to place to stay in Mittagong - I love Appletree Cottage and have been staying here for several years now. Everything is immaculate, the garden is lovely and the hosts are lovely. Nothing
- Krstina (10/5): Very satisfied on all counts. - Very well appointed, located & comfortable & clean. Nothing.
- Reece (9/5): Lovely stay - Great location, nice modern bathroom and kitchen. Extra provided kitchen items were a lovely touch.
Old decor is a nice touch around the home. Lovely backyard. Only ceiling fan available in lounge room otherwise no options for further cooling (no air con or other fans).
Beds are firm if you like this.
- Chris (10/5): Charming rustic semi right on the edge of town. Rod and Kathy were amazing hosts. -
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet - cosy
- Shiree (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Cafes and shops in walking distance. So warm and cosy. We loved our stay.
- Janet (9/5): ..found the ambience and tranquility very welcoming and the outdoor area appealing - Found the location of cottage a bonus close proximity to eateries and gift shops ..Cottage was very comfortable and well maintained and clean..Furnishings and decor added to the atmosphere and were consistent with the era of the property Considering a booked three night stay felt that extra towels would have proved useful…Possible risk of injury at front door entry because of size of entry platform..found it a bit difficult to manage with travel cases …Felt the cheese and crackers would have had more appeal if the crackers were unopened and not placed in a jar in pantry..
- Catherine (8/5): Very good -
- Cheryl (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely the best stay we have ever had. Didn't want to leave. Such a warm, comfy, homely feeling. So close to town and hosts were exceptional. The property is such a credit to them. Many thanks Rod and Kathy. We truly hope to stay with you again. Best wishes. Sorry, not a thing we didn't like.

- Sheila (9/5): A lovely cottage , very clean and comfortable . Would definitely come again - The location was perfect, very close to all amenities It would have been nice to have had a hand towel each and face washer each, as we were 2 single ladies travelling together
- Anonymous (10/5): Quaint little place to stay with excellent instructions on using things - Mostly everything Maybe rugs needed replacing
- Anonymous (10/5): Beautiful and comfortable cottage with excellent modern kitchen and bathroom - Very cute cottage with modern kitchen, bathroom and great heating floors. Perfect place to stay and near lots of restaurants. Not that I disliked it but the explanation to start the fireplace needed a bit more info. You need to keep your finger on the enter button until it starts. Luckily I figured it out and all was fine.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely classic property, beautifully modernised where it matters. Comfortable beds, great kitchen and bathroom.
- Vicki (10/5): Comfortable cottage with a touch of history - It was a perfect location close to Mittagong, walking distance. The cottage was so comfortable and lovely decor. Cannot fault this amazing accommodation. Everything was perfect

- Trish (10/5): Quaint property with character and personal touches, homely. Had everything we needed plus more. - What is not to like. A lovely cottage with well added modern touches. Keyless entry was great. That we had to go.
- Phillippa (10/5): Always a joy to stay at Appletree Cottage! - the hosts, cleanliness, atmosphere, facilities
- Belinda (9/5): A great stay! - Apple Tree Cottage was one of the nicest places to stay. Kathy and Rod have done an amazing job restoring it to honour the origins of the place from the interior to the exterior. Great communication with Kathy and Rod. Great location with the main road and the best coffee around the corner. The only minor thing was the cups/plates weren’t in easy reach of short people but can easily be overlooked with everything else.
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay was exceptional. Homely, spacious and cosy.
- Lindsay (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryle (10/5): Exceptional - very cosy and well decorated. close to coffee shops and lake. nothing
- Miriama (10/5): Want an escape from the city, this is the place to be! - Great location. A short walk to Mittagong town. Immaculately clean. Comfortable bed. Loved the gas fireplace and reading next to it after a long day. The original decor makes this cute cottage an adorable place to stay when one needs an escape from the hustle and bustle. Rod and Kath were wonderful hosts and left treats and a handwritten note, which was welcoming and a lovely touch. Highly recommend! Loved everything about Appletree Cottage.
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional -

- Alan (9/5): I would stay there again and have already sung the praises of our stay - Everything was as described and suited us exactly what we wanted in Mittagong - we were central to all our needs
- Cheryle (10/5): a wonderful place to spend a few days. - Apple Tree Cottage is very cute and nicely decorated. it is very well located and has everything you need. nothing

- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (10/5): Apple tree - The ambience and everything you needed for a stay was very well thought of. The location was perfect. Having to leave 😃
- Jo-anne (10/5): A charming stone cottage in Mittagong, convenient to shop, cafes, quiet and easy walking. -
- Kevin (10/5): A lovely week in the Southern Highlands. - The cottage was very quaint and the perfect size for a couple. The various framed prints added a nice historical feel. Kitchen / dining room had a lovely view out onto the back yard which was very pretty. Underfloor heating and gas fire, as well as electric blankets ensured a warm, cozy ambience. Location was great as it was a short walk to shops, pub, club and cafes etc. Petrol station was also just two doors down. The whole feel of the cottage was relaxing and reminded us of our grandparents' homes from a more simple time. We loved our stay. Thank you. No major drama but the carport out the back where we parked our car was very small, making it difficult to enter and exit our vehicle. It was an historical old carport so it might be hard to make it bigger.
- Csilla (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was beautiful and facilities top notch. Although not crucial, there was no parking, but given the era of the property this is not unexpected
- Miriam (9/5): I loved the house it’s my dream home - Breakfast was not included but the house was a close walk to local cafes The weather it was raining
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): hidden gem - beautiful with attention to detail, very clean nothing - it was beautiful
- Melinda (10/5): Absolutely stunning, very special property for a memorable, comfortable stay. - What a stunning property! We were absolutely delighted and frankly wished we were moving in permanently. Such a perfect alternative to staying in a hotel room, there is a lovely lounge area with a gas fireplace, so cozy and comfortable, we spent a lot of time hanging out there. The outdoor space was beautiful, what a luxury. We had a bedroom each, big comfortable bed and lots of personal quirky and comfortable touches. We adored the heated floors in the stunning kitchen, having a proper dining table and only wished there was time for a soak in that gorgeous tub. We will be back, for sure. A very short flat walk to the shops and restaurants, we had such a lovely time and can't wait to return.
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kay (6/5): Probably not the right choice by us as heritage buildings obviously restrict modern comforts. - Location Accessible to town. Pleasant decor in keeping with heritage style. Thoughtful provisions in the fridge - wine, cheese chocolates, beer. Beautiful soaking tub. Bedside lighting not adequate for reading. House really cold on arrival and took a while to heat up and bedrooms never really felt warm at night. ( obviously constraints given heritage cottage). Insufficient powerpoints in kitchen addition. Would prefer a smart TV so can use personal streaming services. Bed and bedding only moderately comfortable. Could have used overhead fan heater in bathroom.
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional - Cute little character cottage with everything you need. Lovely touches like bath salts in the bathroom. Under floor heating & fireplace ensured the cottage was warm in the middle of Mittagong's winter. The cottage is walking distance to Lake Alexandria & the shops and cafes. There was a petrol station nearby. The wifi only seemed to allow one person to log on at a time.
- Roberta (10/5): Exceptional -
