Guest Reviews
- Bart (7/5): Goed - Ligging Uitrusting
- Wouter (8/5): -
- Silke (8/5): -
- Marina (8/5): - Super ligging, goede voorzieningen Niets
- Jurgen (8/5): Leuk knus huisje...
- Mi-Odin Mureșan (10/5): Countryside superb relaxation house - adorable! - Perfect place to stay for 3-5 days out in the countryside for total relax. Fireplace with enough wood, another fireplace automated on wood pellets, additional convectors and electric heaters for tough winters. Nice pond outside, with barbeque multiple facilities for nice summers. Games available for children of all ages, also books, DVD player & co.
Absolutely superb rustic style renovation, you fall in love with this. A nice (Lidl) welcome wine on the house was highly appreciated! If we'll return / pass through this area we'll definitely come back here, and we encourage you all to do not miss this countryside relaxation house anytime of the year! The pillows and bed thick blankets need urgent professional cleaning, these all smell old and need proffessional maintenance / renewal procedures.

Prachtig uitzicht
Alles aanwezig
Badkamer ok.

- Steve (10/5): Perfect stop over on a long road trip. - Lovely place to stop over on a long trip from the U.K. to Hamburg. Everything is provided even and nice bottle of wine!
- Marianne Korsman (9/5): Heel goed - Het huisje Niets
- EDWARD (10/5): -
- Mel (10/5): Lovely house in a pretty and quiet location perfect for battlefield or theme park visits. - This was very good value for money and the comms were very good. The house, beds etc are lovely and clean. There’s lots of space and it would be great for younger children as there is a super interesting garden to explore. The location is very quiet and perfect for an overnight stay when visiting Bellewaerde and Plopsaland. Somewhere to charge a car would have been good but not a problem for us as e have a hybrid.
- Martin (8/5): -

- John (10/5): Excellent place cannot be faulted - It was like home from home clean and comfortable alot of space well equipped and close to all ww1 sites can not recommend this house enough please book you will be booking again for next year
- Rami (10/5): Lovely comfortable stay with beautiful views - Adorable little cottage. Area was so quiet and the views were gorgeous. Lots of bed for everyone to choose from. Lots of toys for the kids to play with. No complaints. Lovely stay
- Geoffrey (7/5): Great location for visiting WW1 sites in the Ieper area. - Location and outside areas Netflix did not work for us
- James (8/5): It’s a great location and the house is comfortable, especially for adults - Location was great - close to towns and villages but in the countryside. If you are older or have limited mobility, then you would have trouble with the staircase in the house.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (10/5): Clean, comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable. - The owners had the fires roaring! The house is warm and a great break from hotel rooms and small city apartments. It is surrounded by fields and close to the war sites we wanted to visit. The house is spacious and well equipped. We loved our country break there and would gladly return. It was clean, comfortable and convenient. Nothing. It’s exactly as the pictures show.
- Pedro (10/5): Exceptional - I stayed at 1 Huis den Kalbilk in Heuvelland, Belgium, with six friends from December 14 to December 16, 2024, for two nights.
The house is situated in a peaceful location with beautiful vegetation all around. The nearest neighbor is about 150 to 200 meters away, so you can enjoy music at a normal volume without any worries.
This holiday home reminded me of the lovely visits to my parents' place, with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The pellet stove in the dining room provides natural light and warmth, and it also heats the adjacent living room. The rest of the rooms on the ground floor and upstairs are well-heated, likely by oil or electric heating.
The rooms are spacious, and there are plenty of beds, linens, and towels available. You'll need to bring your own soap and toiletries, though. With WiFi and two TVs, you are well-connected to the outside world.
The garden features a small water feature, about 30 square meters, surrounded by lush vegetation. The water is contained by a liner, creating a tranquil and picturesque setting1. All amenities, such as supermarkets and restaurants, are just a few minutes' drive away. We even made it to Antwerp in 90 minutes and Bruges in about 55 minutes.
The homeowners (a lovely couple) were very responsive and could be reached quickly via email. There was also the option to contact them by phone at any time.
I could go on and on... We definitely plan to return in the spring and again in the autumn for longer stays. Many thanks to the homeowners for everything, and hopefully, see you soon.

- Rimmer (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely location and idea for battlefield tours, the host went the extra mile and laid on wine and sweets. I would 100% recommend this accommodation and I'm hoping to book again one day. Thank you Chris & Christine for an amazing stay
- Shatouri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (9/5): Amazing location with friendly hosts. - Really warm welcome. Easy to communicate with host. Lovely rural location.
Easy to find.
Kind gifts left for children and adults.
Great value for money. Amazing base for exploration.
- Paul (10/5): Amazing house in a fabulous location. - Location so peaceful and tranquil. Ideal for exploring the WW1 battlefields. Lots of quirky little touches in the house, more than enough of everything to make the stay self sufficient. Overall a wonderful find. The stairs to the upstairs bedrooms very steep, but we knew that before booking. We are retired and still did not find it to be a major problem.
- Alan (10/5): Comfortable, well equipped and peaceful. - Large, well-equipped house with lots of outdoor space. Quiet location, but not far from amenities. Everything we hoped for, no complaints.
- Clym (10/5): Wonderfully relaxing stay with my family and dogs - excellent location, in the countryside yet very close to all the shops I needed. Lots of information provided on everything to do and see in the area - and beyond. The house is equipped with all the things needed to prepare and cook meals. I have never taken my dogs to Europe with me before and was a little apprehensive. I shouldn't have been as this house was perfect for them. Plenty of room for the dogs to run around inside, and the outside area is absolutely huge and 90% grass. Nothing, all good - if not better.
I am asked to write 2 or 3 sentences.
I can't, there was nothing to complain about.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional - Location and an amazing place
- Onlytony (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely lovely place, set in tranquil farmland surroundings.
Everything we needed was on hand. There were no issues whatsoever
- Danielle (9/5): Superb - We enjoyed our stay and looking forward to our next stay next year
- Thierry (8/5): Very good -
- Glenn (4/5): Could be better, with an update. - Number of bedrooms was great. The house itself was looking tired and required some updating. There were a lot of objects scattered around giving the impression you were staying in a brick a brac shop. There were a huge amount of mosquitoes in the property, probably due to the pond in the garden. The stairs upstairs are almost vertical and dangerous, especially if you have to use the toilet at night, which is downstairs.
- Annie (8/5): pleasant stay - very spacious outside area and plenty of room for us all great selection of toys for the children to use and the wine and sweets were much appreciated . never met our host but spoke on the phone and was very helpful i wasn’t happy with the stairs very dangerous for children and is oldies (60’s)! also no upstairs toilet making the trip at night hazardous!
- Vahurv (9/5): Very good place for a getaway stay - Location with an exceptional view
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - Outside areas are beautiful with lots of facilities
- Hildegard (9/5): Superb - De ligging is suuuuuper
- Marsden (10/5): Beautiful surroundings with wildlife pond - Beautiful peaceful surroundings and wildlife pond. Good facilities. Would have enjoyed staying longer.
- Steve (10/5): Peace and quiet in the Belgian countryside - The property was great for our family including our 11 month old grandson and our goldendoodle dog who loved roaming around the extensive garden and adjoining field. The house is located amongst fields in a rural location which was ideal for us. One slight problem is that are very steep stairs to the three upstairs bedrooms
- Karen (10/5): Very accommodating large cottage easy to find - Great hosts very welcoming at short notice
Great location
Everything you need for fab stay Nothing
- Jonathan (10/5): Great place to stay in Belgium - fantastic welcome from our hosts, beautiful location, very peaceful and plenty of space for the children to play. plenty of toys for our children to play with. wish we could have stayed for longer! everything was great
- Reza (8/5): lovely stay all around.. - fabulous location, character house with a lot to offer. lack of oil, salt, pepper auger and coffee in the kitchen. toilet paper
we shop for everything but normally those bits are provided by the property.
- Kačinauskas (8/5): Very good -
- Dibdob69 (7/5): Great location. - Great location, Beautiful surroundings, Very quiet. A/C Would be nice it was very warm when we stayed, Not suitable for people with difficulty steep climbing stares'
- Katya (5/5): Passable - We stayed for one night only. The area around and a view are amazing. if you want to have bbq and sit outside then you have all you need.
The kitchen has a lot of equipment.
good water stream in bathroom The house itself is old and there is no air conditioner and it was only one floor vent, no nets on windows. when we came on a very hot day it was much wormer inside the house than outside. We opened the windows to get the fresher air but also got tones of mosquitoes. The night was a nightmare: hot and waking up all the time due to the noise from mosquitoes (and we did put some spray against insects). probably on another day it would be much better experience.
