Guest Reviews
- Jennifer (9/5): Outstanding location with beautiful views and beach sounds to rock you to sleep. - Beautiful location overlooking a peaceful bay. Views from the kitchen and living are were outstanding. The fire was ready to go and made for a very comfortable stay. One on the beds was not good. A roll into middle experience. Fortunately, the other bed was great. Need some microwave containers to cook with.

- Karen (8/5): Very comfortable and relaxing, enjoyed the views. Great spot - Views and proximity to beach fantastic. Loved the retro feel. A coffee plunger would have been brilliant
- Andrew (7/5): - Nice location for access to the caves, beds comfortable and well equiped kitchen. It was very cold for us and heating up the house was challenging, suggest be ready to get the fire going quickly if windy and cold when you arrive.
- Louisa (8/5): This was our second visit; we had a lovely family stay. - The location and view was superb. The shack was comfortable and homely.
The wood fire was cosy. Perhaps a few more tea towels.
Need a new washer in the laundry trough.
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Anthony (9/5): Loved it - Beautiful place Just needs a bluetooth music option
- Peter (10/5): Great place - Very nice spot and had everything U need! Nothing it's a gem

- Vivien (8/5): The Shack was really clean, comfortable, relaxing and well equipped - Location is beautiful, lovely aspect looking over Southport , lots of lovely touches such as firewood and well equipped kitchen, and comfortable sofas Double bed in spare room was fairly comfortable but could be updated
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - The location was exceptional and the cottage is gorgeous with fabulous views. Very comfortable and welcoming - would love to stay again The only negative is that all the windows were locked and we couldn't open them, and there's a sign asking to keep doors shut to keep out flies. We had some hot days during our stay and it did get quite warm and stuffy inside.
- Tanya (8/5): Very good - Great location and great communication
Amazing views everything you need A book with instructions would be great for example WiFi, washing machine instructions.
- Grant (10/5): Exceptional -
- Con (8/5): Great location, easy access and very comfortable setting!! - Location and views across to the beach ! Beds a little small…
- David (9/5): Superb - Amazing view and vibe of the place. Stove was the only shortcoming, which in the scheme of things was a small issue.
- Tim (9/5): Superb - Great location
- Donna (5/5): Passable - Great view of ocean. Space on veranda, dvds Mattresses, cleanliness (dirt on floors in corners and under couch), front door lock (couldn’t lock after opening) bedroom windows need to be able to open for ventilation but insect screens not on all windows; matchstick blinds smell/ dusty; cobwebs on ceilings.
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- Feng (10/5): Nice home to stay. -
- Jeremy (9/5): Superb - The view is stunning. 😲👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is a "comfy/homely" property with lots of seating to take in the views which are visible from the lounge/dining/kitchen and deck areas.
There are a huge range of CD's, DVD's, books and games.
games. Lovely beach for a stroll 😍 The fact we were only staying one night. You definitely need to stay for longer.
If you're looking for modern this is not for you.
- Scott (9/5): Superb -

- Ash (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (9/5): Excellent -
- Mark (9/5): Very Comfortable - Quite locating with peaceful surroundings.
Very comfortable for our stay.
- Cherryl (7/5): Would revisit in a summertime period. - The house was very well equip in the kitchen and clean. I believe it’s more suited to spring, summer vacation. Shower was great. Not enough heating. The wood fire heats the central area however some bedrooms remain quite cool and the bathroom, toilet area are very cold in winter. Maybe some extra electrical heating. Requires better curtaining(re:heat&glare)The view whilst good is not as clear as the advertised picture.
- Renea (8/5): Very good -
- Eshlyn (9/5): Superb - The location was great! Big spacious house with a well equipped kitchen for a family getaway. Kids loved the swings outside. The place was unfortunately not warm enough. Had to crank the fire and use the hot water bottles which were kindly provided.
- Catherine (9/5): Excellent would stay again - Great location,
Stacked wood fire
Comfortable bed
- Jaylan (10/5): Amazing spot with an amazing view - The spot was amazing and it was a very unique house
- Craig (9/5): A very pleasant place to visit. - Remote location, fireplace, beach and general feel of the place.
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Hay (7/5): View and location outstanding but some safety issues need addressing. - View and location outstanding with some improvements for safety the property would be wonderful. Clean under beds very dusty, sink in bathroom would not flow and fire guard for heater not child safe, side door was locked so only one entrance again not fire safe, uneven floor was also not safe.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (10/5): Top Spot - Superb location and everything you could want at a beach shack. 👍
- Julie (8/5): Lovely location, comfy house with character - Quirky, beach decor, we had everything we needed The smell of the septic system and the water pump kicking in through the night despite firmly turning all the taps off. Also the step down to the lounge/ dining area proved to be a safety hazard even though we knew it was there but forgot!
- Cath (10/5): Exceptional - Location was outstanding, the views spectacular.
Lovely homely cottage.
- Rory (10/5): Wish we could’ve stayed longer 😃 - The bohemian style we all loved it and the fireplace kept the whole house warm all night
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - What an amazing place, with a million dollar view. You can hear and see the sea in the bedrooms. An amazing place with everything provided that you need. Nothing really, we fell in love with the place. One suggestion would be that It could have had an outdoor setting to sit outside and admire the sea view.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning views, great location, and great facilities.
- Gericke (9/5): Superb - Beautiful view, peaceful, lovely fireplace. No problems.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (10/5): Loved the stay all around. - The views, how warm and inviting everything was. The bed was so comfortable and we very much enjoyed sipping a coffee and watching the ocean near the window. Couldn’t find the recycling bin.
- Sangmin (8/5): Very good -
- Gill (10/5): Exceptional - Best place to stay. Perfect location.
- Sandy (9/5): Great place to get away from it all and really relax. - Cosy house, very comfortable bed and a great location. Great spot to relax but also convenient if you want to do the Cockle Creek - South Cape Bay walk to Lion Rock, as we did. The Southport Tavern is also close and it has really good meals and coffee. Nothing we didn’t like.
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional - The view and the vibe at the Shack are amazing. We had such a great time.
- Mae (8/5): Picture perfect views for a quiet and relaxing getaway - Great location with amazing views! The house is pretty and comfortable Would have benefited from some modern touches but I think it works well as part of the charm.
Also should better advertise 3rd room as part of the 2nd room as it was.
- Michael (8/5): Very enjoyable and well provided for - The little step betwen the kitchen and lounge room caught a couple of us out. One person tripped and was lucky to fall on the couch. perhaps you could think of making the step more visible. Also the bathroom vanity was slow to drain. Not big issues but worth passing on
- Danielle (5/5): Amazing location and had everything we needed for our stay except for the fire 🔥 - Location No kindling for the fire, was hard to start without it.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Nicolaas (8/5): Very good - Very nice house and location, could listen to the ocean all night. Fireplace was burning on arrival and house was warm and cozy coming in from the cold. Very pleasant stay Nothing not to like
- Carine (9/5): Fantastic location, great for families - The Shack was perfect for our relaxing weekend away. Easy to book, and check-in. Located just across the beach, fantastic views over the ocean, from the lounge and dining area. The house was spacious, well furnished and decorated. The kitchen is well equipped. The fireplace made it all cosy and warm. Nothing. Everything worked perfectly for us.
- Juanita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Runim (8/5): An interesting but very comfortable place to visit. - Southport is well out of the way and very quiet.
The information we were given about being self-sufficient was very good. The local hotel was very good and only 10 minutes away.
The place was well-equipped. The 'Shack' has a number of quaint modifications (variations in floor level) which may challenge some people.
The driveway could be challenging for some people, especially in the wet.
- Carol (9/5): A lovely out of the way, quiet place to stay. - The view of the water out the window. Fireplace was of great use. Clean place, This is where we saw the rare white wallaby. The meat at the local hotel was nice. Cool that it was the southern most town that our hire car could take us. The driveway made it hard if you want to turn right. Local hotel staff weren't really friendly. They weren't rude, just not friendly.
- Sandra (8/5): Very good -
- Cara (9/5): Superb - Location was amazing, could hear the sounds of the waves crashing.. was clean and loved that the fire place was already set up and ready for use with extra wood available. Would recommend to everyone 😊
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tammy (9/5): lovely place, fabulous location and very friendly host. - absolutely gorgeous place, felt like home as soon as we walked in leaving it
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - beautiful in one word nothing
- Fiona (9/5): Superb - Wow, this place was gorgeous and inviting with lovely decoration and a fire already set for us. The bedrooms are cosy, and the main was beautifully presented with a spectacular canvas on the wall. We loved the large bathroom, amazing views, and pretty deck. The local pub is a short drive away, and the meals are huge and yummy. Very relaxing stay for my elderly parentsand I was able to drive them right to the front door of the house as there was ample parking. Both mattresses on the beds sagged towards the middle. I needed to clean the windrow near the sofas as we could see a small child had been leaning up against it as there were hand prints and other smudges.
- Robyn (8/5): Very good - nice and close to beach the bunk room was in with the main bedroom seperated by a curtain which was fine in our case
- Jo (10/5): What a great spot - Beautiful outlook! Clean and full of character with everything you could possibly want or need. Warm fire and comfortable beds. Thankyou😊 Not a complaint but the sensitive pump did persist despite our best efforts.
- Andrew (9/5): awesome view, close to beach, excellent base for a tour of the Deep South! - perfect spot. good base to tour the area. beds a little stiff for our liking.
- Joanne (8/5): Overall a good stay - location and fire, nice feel to place No curtain in the living area. Found DVD’s later that night and not where one would expect. wasted lots of time trying to use Chromecast with no instructions found as no TV reception. Evening would have been better if DVD hiding place known.
- Nev (7/5): Quite nice comfortable - NA Drive & steps
- Grantley (8/5): Very good -
- A (7/5): Good - Location very good. Lack of accuracy in information posted on internet: there was no cable TV( although after our booking was confirmed our host pointed this out), batteries in handset for DVD didn't work and there were only two bedrooms not three (not an issue for us but it maybe for some guests)..
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Kaili (10/5): Exceptional - Everything!
It was more than we were expecting and we instantly felt relaxed. Nothing
- Joan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bernie (9/5): Family friendly, excellent views, cosy fireplace and large kitchen! - The view from The Shack was excellent. Heating facilities were wonderful - the fireplace added to the ambience and provided a cosy stay! Loved the touch of covered hot water bottles for the single beds. We were in the double bed in the large family bedroom that was a little too soft in the middle. However, family members were in the other double bed and they were quite comfortable.
- Rosa (8/5): Very good - The scenery & location was excellent
Clean & comfortable
Well equipped Nothing. It was all good.
- Slarkie (9/5): GREAT LOCATION AND VIEWS ARE SENSATIONAL - Loved our 3 nights at the Shack in Southport. It sits in an elevated position on Beach Road & is the first driveway on right after the cliff road.
When first approaching be careful not to miss the steepish driveway into no 118.
Whilst based there we thoroughly explored the area down around Cockle Creek (Walked out to Fisher Point) and did the Hasting Caves (WOW!), had a great dinner at the Southport Hotel and really good coffee at the Rocket near the jetty.
The Shack was just what we expected and appropriate for the area. We used the smaller of the double bedrooms, which had a cosy double bed and the larger bedroom has a double bed & two singles and there's a nice large & airy bathroom.
The lounge has great beach views, with comfy lounged to laze away an hour or so, listening to your favourite tunes from the extensive range of CDs. No TV reception but heaps of DVDs to choose a movie from.
Similarly the dining area has great views, and sliding glass doors out to a sizeable deck
Kitchen is quaint albeit a bit dated, but we managed to cook up a couple of lovely meals very easily.
There's a log fire which made it very cosy.
- Gabby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luke (9/5): excellent location and views have stayed before and will stay again. -
- Lyndon (8/5): Very good -
- Aileen (7/5): Good - The view from the lounge was lovely and it was a great location The Shack is advertised as a 3 bedroom house. It in fact has 1 double bedroom and 1 family room which contains 2 single beds with a curtain separating them from a double bed.
- Sandy (5/5): Passable -
- Thomas (8/5): Lovely homely spot, would do it again with friends - Great view, fireplace is lovely in the cold, very good kitchen facilities including large fridge. There is an oven, which wasn’t indicated. Lounge and chairs are comfy. Steps between some rooms nearly sent food/drink flying multiple times (and we were sober for what it’s worth!) Feels exposed at night due to no curtains overlooking the bay. Minus half a point using “live laugh love” posters unironically.
- Aimee (10/5): beautiful views, comfortable beds, lovely living space and the most amazing woodfire! - beautiful views, comfortable beds, lovely living space and the most amazing woodfire!
