Guest Reviews
- Barry (8/5): Great views with some challenges. - View was great Thermostat was faulty. Controls were not setup as illustrated. Having to leave the heater off, meant things were a little cold at night. Had to source other blankets from other rooms to keep warm.
Road was rough to enter the premises
No covering top sheet on bed.
Having to boil water was a surprise.

- Alister (10/5): Mountain Wildlife Retreat With A View - Loved the view, the clean spacious modern home with facilities and love the furry visitors. The driveway was a little longer and bumpier than expected. The eco dryer wasn't real fast at drying but it might have been the operators and it did save us standing and flapping our own clothes until they dried.
- Geoff (8/5): Great location and view. Interaction with wallabies was fun - View was impressive. Friendly wallabies The driveway was very rough
- Paul (9/5): -
- southerngirl10 (7/5): - The view and the wildlife The somewhat treacherous drive up.
I was worried about the wildlife at night
- Cheryl (10/5): - The view was exceptional. Wallabies came to visit. The house had everything we needed. The also make snacks available for purchase and even though we didn't use them we thought it was a great idea The road up to the property is partly gravel but well graded but it is narrow and windy but ok if you are aware of this before arriving.
- Paul (9/5): The family wa delighted! with the gorgeous setting, and with seeing and feeding the wallabies, up to 6 at a time. The ac - Location, facilities, views, and wildlife (lotsa gentle hungry wallabies!) Overall, we were very happy with the facilities provided. The dirt section of the road in was a little muddy, but no problem at all. It was cold overnight, around 5-6 degrees C. The room heater was fine for the kitchen-dining area, but the bedrooms and bathrooms were a bit chilly. Electric blankets would have been handy. The wifi for our unit dropped out spasmodically, so we used 5G, which worked well. We rely on wifi for communication, entertainment, route-finding, and planning our next stay(s).
- gilles (10/5): - Emplacement et vue sont exceptionnels il y a de l'espace des matériaux de qualité donc je recommande ce logement.
- YUAN (10/5): - Very good view
- Helen (10/5): Breath taking views in a natural setting. - Lovely new-ish home with exceptional views in a natural setting. Very nice to have sweet treats available to buy in the house. The driveway was very challenging.
- YUAN (10/5): - Amazing view, No
- YIU LI (10/5): -
- Kevin (10/5): A great start to our Tassie holiday - The view from the house was excellent. The house was comfortable and clean. Having wallabies all around was great. Roads were a little rough
- Belinda (10/5): Great location for some R&R. - Loved the location, remote enough to see the stars and the aurora at nighttime if you're lucky. Lots of little wallabies coming around. Scenic A bit of a medium level drive if you're not used to gravel or uphill driving. Could be better maintained. If they had an oven that would be very useful too.
- Jessica (10/5): - Clean, well appointed house with an amazing view in a quiet area. Hand feeding the wallabies was an unexpected highlight. The mini bar was a nice touch.
- Amber (10/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): An Amazing location with an Amazing view - the facilities were great and had no problem dealing with the Host - would de - The View was spectacular- felt like we were up in the clouds - the 3 bedrooms and a 2nd lounge room was great for our group. Also having the little wallabies greet us every day was just lovely. On the portion of dirt road that you need to drive on the potholes were quite bad in places.
- Michelle Love (10/5): Stunning views , amazing location and great facilities - Wow , what a picturesque place to stay ... so great for an unwind away from the city , so much wildlife and the house was so comfortable... amazing place to stay There was nothing we didnt like
- Leo (10/5): The possum house was spacious and very clean. We enjoyed the beautiful view and the wildlife. What a treasure. - The location was truly special, amazing view, and the wildlife all around. We saw half dozen wall bees, a deer and opossum. A couple of the wild Beach were friendly and came up for a morning and an evening meal. I didn’t beg they just made themselves available to join us for some food on the deck amazing sunrise, and sunset beautiful view of the water so quiet
- Kristie (9/5): -
- TEJAS (9/5): Great cabin with views - A very comfortable stay in a beautiful mountain setting. The property is surrounded by nature and offers breathtaking views. It’s quiet, relaxing, and ideal for anyone looking to escape the city and enjoy fresh air and scenery. Host was very helpful accomodating additional guests with us. We had visits from local wildlife everyday. The only small downside was that some of the kitchenware was a little run down.
- Erika (9/5): -
- Andre (10/5): - Great place. Spacious. Clean. Great views. Wildlife at your doorstep. Directions were good, but arriving with daylight will help navigate a little easier. Wish we had stayed here for a week instead! Value for money! Nothing! Didn't like we only planned a short stay.. That's on us though!
- Olha (10/5): Fantastic view and kangaroos! -
- Linda (8/5): Great views in comfy house close to airport. - Good views, comfortable house, close to airport. Check-in was not straight forward; delay getting key code.
- Shakib (5/5): Disappointing Experience - The house was booked for 7 people, but the
bedding arrangement did not properly accommodate everyone and one guest ended up sleeping uncomfortably. The heater barely worked - even after hours, the house stayed cold with no heating in the bedrooms. The microwave was also completely non-functional, and despite contacting the property during our stay, we received no helpful response until it was almost time to check out.
The place itself has potential, but customer service and maintenance need serious improvement. If the facilities had been checked properly and support was prompt, our stay could have been much better.
- Julie (10/5): Bring provisions and settle into cosy cabin. - Amazing view day and night. Comfortable and clean. Fridge and elec fire. Washing machine and dryer. Nothing.
- Lieselotte (8/5): Fantastic views from a comfortable cabin, at the top of the world! - The view was fantastic, it made our visit a real adventure! It also helped us understand the landscape of Tasmania much better. The facilities were very good. We asked for help turning on the gas heater, which was a bit temperamental, and it was provided very quickly and cheerfully. Everything we needed was readily available, and we were comfortable there. Although the location provided astonishing views, the drive to the site was tough and confusing. We nearly went down a very steep incline, which we might have had difficulty getting out of.
In my opinion, it would be wise to be more forthright at the booking stage, about the challenging gravel road, the elevation to the site, and the distance from shops. We are accustomed to driving on gravel, but many tourists are not, and rental cars aren't meant to go off sealed roads.
- Hui Chen (3/5): -
- Natalie (10/5): Would definitely stay again - The view was amazing and the unit was clean and presentable.
- Sherele (8/5): Amazing Views, spacious living - Roomy comfortable place, great view The dirt track to get there..
- Tanya (10/5): A spectacular escape just a short drive from Hobart with wallabies coming to say hi too - The view was spectacular and the house had lots of space for our family to relax in It was a pretty steep dirt road to access the property, but worth the short drive
- Galli (8/5): Unexpected Mountain Adventure with a Cool Aussie Vibe - We booked this place by mistake, thinking it was in a neighborhood with wildlife vibes, without checking the description. Turns out it’s a campsite up in the mountains with a view and nothing else (check Google Maps satellite view). We got there at night, totally unprepared for the remote location, and driving up the mountain with no streetlights was pretty scary. The place itself is roomy and the kitchen’s stocked with great cooking gear. After we mentioned worries about a scratched saucepan leaking chemicals, the management swapped it out for a good one. Some windows had busted mosquito nets, so bugs got in, and we had to keep them shut. Lucky for us, two wallabies showed up the day we left, which totally made the stay worth it! Busted mosquito nets.
- Anh Thư (10/5): -
- Ebonie (10/5): 10/10 - Absolutely stunning view. Cosy house with everything we needed. Cute wildlife
- Clare (9/5): Great value, serene and stunning views - Excellent location with stunning views. Incredible value for money with 3 bedrooms! Heaps of local wildlife and so peaceful. Equipment was a little basic but still had everything we needed for our stay!
- Stephane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antoinette (9/5): very short but comfortable, super quiet - The views were very beautiful and had the visit of 3 wallabies in the morning The internet was temporarily down
- Lisa (10/5): Amazing brilliant spectacular - Plenty of space, very clean and views were AMAZING !!! Loved the wildlife around and come to the door ❤️ also Netflix! Not that we had time to watch it. Loved everything about this property! If I had to say just that the bathroom didn’t have a blind or curtain so felt a bit exposed when having a shower
- Shirley (10/5): Wonderful stay in Mount Rumney - The view, the serenity of the place The way up to the house
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (9/5): Great bush setting overlooking the beach and landscapes beyond. - Great bush setting overlooking the beach and landscapes beyond. Quiet setting. Plenty of wildlife in the area which is a bonus. Communication from he host could be improved. We only received our (self) checkin procedures 24 hours prior to our stay, after numerous attempts to communicate with the host. The house was very hot when we arrived and despite opening windows and using the fan we were unable to cool the house sufficiently, as there is no air conditioning at the property. The dirt road is very rough and heavily rutted to access the property.
- Shirley (10/5): Wonderful getaway - The location was serene, place was comfortable for my group. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly. The way up to find the house was a little challenging.
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Views Had to clean a sticky patch on the floor and dirty plates cutlery
- Craig (9/5): Great place - Everything except the road to it The road too it was a bit hairy.
- Roma (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (9/5): Superb - Views
Comfortable Drive up dirt road
- Rudd (9/5): Superb -
- Emil (9/5): Superb - Location was gorgeous. Wildlife was fantastic, wife even got bitten by a possum (bonus :-) A fabulous Mozzies ..our fault as we left the door open at dusk.
- Tracey (10/5): Amazing view!! - Beautiful location and house. A credit to its owners, view is amazing. Local wildlife is very friendly also for the kids to feed Nothing
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xiaoxia (10/5): Amazing view, clean and spacious property with wallabies hopping around. - So amazing panoramic view, wallabies hopping around. Spacious three bed rooms with big beds, clean and tidy. Unfortunately the property has very strong Indian curry spice smell. I think the previous tenants enjoyed their cooking during their stay. Hopefully the smell won’t last too long for the future tenants.
- Tanis (9/5): Cold but so beautiful - That house is absolutely incredible, we will come back for sure. The view from the top of mountain was amazing. The fist track was ok even with my 2wd sedan car Could easily have given 10/10, but unfortunately, the dishes (plates and bowls) in the cupboard some were dirty and most of them were stored wet from washing. That's bacteria development grounds. We washed all the dishes in question before to use them. No idea if it's from the previous tenant or the way your cleaner always does usually but this is not good
- Anne (10/5): Too short…. Amazing place ….. highly recommend 😊 - Amazing views and very comfy we had a slight issue either heating but owners resolved very quickly…. Then really toasty 😊
Wallabies all about and when we left early morning we saw a possum 😊 Sadly we only booked in for one night …needed to stay longer ….. sooo comfy
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Jillian (9/5): Superb - The panoramic views when we arrived. Feeding the friendly wallaby came right up to the door. It became foggy, so couldn't explore the area. The long hilly gravel road, as we were in a hired car, and had to clean it before taking it back, as it had rained over night.
- Samantha (8/5): Beautiful Views. Comfy stay. -
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maryeiry (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent view, very conformable place and good location
- Roosmarie (8/5): We only had a one night stay and was grate accommodation near the airport. - Suitable for family close to airport Great views
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Seng (10/5): Exceptional - Great view, clean and quiet, wild life animal You may need a 4WD to get to he location, a little bumpy on the road
- Keira (8/5): Comfortable accommodation, quiet location with beautiful views. - Magnificent views, comfortable, good space for a family. Great base for day trips. We had a hire car but location would have been tricky if relying on taxi/ Uber.
- Glen (8/5): Location, view and comfortable facilities added to our holiday experience - Great view. Spacious. Peaceful. Nature. Access could have been better but in some ways added to the adventure.
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vikki (8/5): Very good - Very spacious and clean accommodation. Had everything we needed and more for our one night stay. The view we woke to in the morning was lovely. The only downside for us was getting there. Because we arrived at night we were very unsure if we were in the right place. Maybe some more signage would have helped.
- Witthawas (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Exceptional - The location..Amazing..Bit of a drive up the Mt but part of the experience. Was to short a stay
- Witthawas (9/5): Nice stay with stunning view - Location with stunning view It could be good, if have heater in bedroom.
- Raman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jodie (10/5): Beautiful location, modern accommodation, everything you could need. - The views, the views, the views..... Absolutely stunning anytime of day. The wildlife, being so close to Hobart yet completely out in nature. That we couldn't stay longer. Not much to not like.
Maybe improvement with the heating system, as it got quite hot in the main area, yet still quite cold in the bedrooms.... But that is honestly only if we have to find fault with soemthing.... . We didnt freeze and had a wonderful stay. It was all beautiful and perfect for us.
- Calvin (8/5): Awesome view with friendly animals right at doorstep! - The fantastic view from the house. The house is big, clean and well equipped. There are animals such as goat, sheep and wallabies outside the house, which we enjoyed feeding them. There is only 1 heater in the living room which does not seems to be enough to cover the big area. The rooms are cold in winter and there are no heater beds. The road condition to the house is bad but it is currently still under improving.
- Yohan (10/5): Fabulous stay . Will book again - It was an exceptionally good experience. From the moment we stepped in to the time we left, our stay was top class. The view to the clean rooms and spacious dining and living areas were amazing. We had a party of 7 and it did not dissapoint. There were some comments from other guests (on the website) that the drive up was challenging, but rest assured it was not. We had a kia Carnival and it easily handled the terrain. The bonus of a washer and dryer , BBQ and a nice warm heater etc were icing on the cake. I have already shared this place with my friends !! Nothing
- Vicky (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing final night in Tasmania. Outstanding views with friendly host and adorable wallabies.
The driveway was fine. A little bumpy but not as bad as previously reviews. Perhaps more work had been done.
A credit to the owners who have done an incredible amount of work to make these houses possible to visitors.
Highly recommend Mount Rumney Escapes as a Tasmanian stay.
From four travelers that love a touch of adventure. n/a
- Kit (7/5): Good -
- Kym (10/5): A beautiful home with stunning view. Enjoyed our time at Mt Rumney and would recommend the property as a lovely place to - The view was magnificent. Lovely home with great amenities high up on the mountain. As our days were busy exploring Tas, it was lovely to be able to sit back, relax and watch a movie on Netflix in the evening. We could even cook our own dinner with use of the full kitchen. We loved the heater and used this a couple of hours a night to break the cold chill. Got to see possum, sheep, goats, and pademelons as part of our 2 night stay. Would recommend this big lovely home for your stay in Mt Rumney. There appeared to be very sticky stuff on parts of the dining and lounge floor and the lounge itself, requiring us to clean these on our late evening arrival.
Would have liked to use the washing machine while there but no clothes airer other than a dryer. Would suggest this for future guests as not all garments can go in a clothes dryer and these could dry on an airer during the day while out exploring.
We also had an instance with loosing power around 3.45am and all back up lights came on in the house in every room which could not be turned off. Thankfully the owners responded to calls and organised for the generator to fixed with an hour. This certainly disrupted our rest with our already jam packed adventure days. We uncovered this was a one off generator fault which was fixed properly the next day and thankfully 2nd night sleep was unbroken.
- Pui (9/5): Superb - Facilities are well equipped, clean and nice. Bumpy road after driving out the main road. If the bumpy section can be made more smooth, it’s a perfect one!
- Kerri (10/5): Fabulous views. - Fabulous views
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): The property gave us a surprise the location and wildlife visitors. - We had own breakfast and location is closed to Eastlands shopping center. Because the property is located in very private area, you need SUV to drive through the property. But we were luky to have a UTE.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Loved everything. Wish we knew about this earlier, instead of on our last day. We would have stayed longer.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jody (8/5): Very good - We enjoyed the view, the peace and the wildlife. Beds were comfy and the place was immaculately clean. Could've used a few more kitchen utensils ie colander etc.
- Lea (9/5): Perfect location for a getaway with magnificent views - Beautiful outlook over the valley Nothing
- Kayla (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious and very well appointed cabin, with stunning views as far as the eye could see.
The added bonus of having a view over the airport for our little aeroplane and helicopter loving toddler.
We were greeted each night by a beautiful possum on our deck, as well as the kangaroos and wallabies that would graze around the cabins all day.
- Kang (10/5): Exceptional - The view is absolutely fantastic! Nothing
- Mez (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views
- Michelle (9/5): Amazing views, very comfortable - Incredible views, wonderful to have wallabies hop around and come right up to the house, very comfortable and excellent amenities Slightly challenging drive up on narrow rocky road, would have loved some outdoor furniture to enjoy the view
- Milan (8/5): Very good -
- Quyen (9/5): The property was very comfortable with exceptional views. - Exceptional location. Love the view and the surrounding nature. Didn’t like the unsealed road to get to the property.
- Wenjing (10/5): Extraordinary! Very helpful staff. We see many wild kangaroos! - Perfect rooms and good view. No
- Karoly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dale (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. Brilliant location. View and clean
- Cara (10/5): Exceptional - The views are great. The wallabies and quiet bush setting. It is on top of a mountain, I didn’t quite realise how bush and high it would be. There are 5 cabins, which are large fairly new and clean. The cabins are fairly close to each other. Had to pull the curtain that side. Heating was on. There was milk, oil and packet tea coffee sugar. Nothing wrong, but i didn’t realise the location and layout of the property.
Also millions of wallabies on the way, And a possum came up to my glass door to look in.
It’s not a big drive to Hobart, just complex on the mountain. Nice side of the city along the water. I received very long emails from the property with large descriptions of everything. The directions provided were not actually helpful, I should have just asked the maps to get me to mt Rumney escapes. Once you are on the mountain, it’s skinny and bumpy dirt roads, not for little low cars. The “private property” signs on the driveways was a bit unnerving, I wasn’t sure I was going the right way.
I would suggest a coffee machine. Games. Provide a map for those who are directionally challenged like me.
