Guest Reviews
- Robert (10/5): Lovely stay, great views, very comfortable bed - Lovely accommodation, friendly wallabies:)
- Madeleine (10/5): Beautiful scenery, plenty of wildlife, comfortable beds and great facilities. - The views were incredible. Location was remote and heaps of wildlife to see, but close enough to Hobart. Property had everything you need including washing machine, dryer and cooking equipment. Nothing.
- Cloe (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Mount Rumney Escapes - Devil House. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed. The beds were really comfortable, the bathroom was modern, and having a smart TV and Wi-Fi was a nice bonus. Everything was very clean and well looked after.
One of our favourite parts was feeding the wallabys
— such an amazing experience! We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be back again.
- Williams (10/5): - Lovely location, beautiful cabin. My girlfriend and the wallabies
- Larnie (9/5): Peaceful location, amazing views, wildlife around you. - Loved the views and the peaceful location. Loved the interactions with the wildlife. We had visits from wallabies, a possum & saw an amazing deer walk by on the morning of our departure. Water had great pressure in the shower. Beds were very comfortable. We have stayed before & will be back.
- Yen Yee (9/5): - Everything is good but the next door was noisy till midnight and shouting around 4am, my mom wasn’t sleep properly whole night because of them
- Brenda (8/5): -
- David (9/5): - Just a pity it was only 1 night but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mt Rumney Escapes. We had all that we needed, the beds were super comfy & the view was amazing. The friendly wallabies were so cute. Thank you. Nothing really.
- Juergen (10/5): Unvergesslich - Ein wunderbares Erlebnis
- Deliang (7/5): -
- Michele (10/5): - Kids loved local wildlife
- Tracey (9/5): -
- Rosemary (10/5): - The Wallbys welcoming us as we arrived
And beautiful views
- Alyson (10/5): - Quiet with a beautiful view and lots of wildlife N/A
- MING (8/5): - 房间白天景色很好, 位置很偏僻,出租车司机吐槽了一路,晚上不建议自己开车,路不好走,
- Antoinette (10/5): Très bon séjour - La belle vue, les wallabies, le côté campagne
- Shirley Baxter (7/5): - Views, nature Didn't realise it was so far off road. Had problems getting uber
- Bell (10/5): - Great location self contained comfotable beds No coat hangers
- Susannah (8/5): - Very quiet and peaceful. Pademelons (like wallabies) we very friendly and kids enjoyed this very much.
Beds were comfortable
Washer and dryer were excellent Dining table and chairs could do with an upgrade
- Dhruv (7/5): Superb location comes with off road location! - The view was absolutely stunning! The gravel road
Kitchen should be stocked better for families
- Tita (9/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): - Very nice staff, accomadated me after I realised I had booked the wrong dates and my flight was delayed I dident get there till near 11pm and they helped me out, lovely views from the balcony and the rooms themselves were lovely. Need your own car to get here its quite a but away from everything .
- Sam (10/5): - Location was far away from everything, very serene and natural Not much help from the managers
- SWAPNIL PRAKASHBHAI (8/5): - Best views of the Hobart airport and seven Mile Beach from a mountain top. Plenty of wallabies and wildlife around the property. Reasonable price. I believe the house could be upgraded with better kitchen utensils, an outdoor awning with tables and chairs to make the stay complete.
- Kaylee (10/5): - Amazing views, heating worked really well with cold wind outside. Spacing between cabins was great, almost like having no neighbours. Friendly wallabies that would greet us at the door each morning and afternoon. Definitely maintains its name as an "Escape" but still close enough to Hobart, Mt Wellington, and the Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed watching the planes coming over the ocean and landing in the distance. We stayed with our two kids for Christmas and had more than enough room to relax and explore, we packed a pop-up tree but found they also provided a tree, which was a lovely touch :)
- Cloe (10/5): - Mount Rumney Escapes exceeded all of our expectations. The view was absolutely stunning and made our stay feel extra special. The accommodation was spotless, the rooms were great, and everything was very well maintained.
We loved the option to purchase items from the minibar using a QR code — such a convenient and modern idea. Having wildlife so close by was an amazing bonus and really added to the experience.
Overall, it was an incredible stay and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mount Rumney Escapes to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway.
- Manita (9/5): -
- Andrea (8/5): Clean comfortable simple stay - Great views
Good location
Clean inside
Simple but comfortable setup - great for staying with a toddler who likes to get into everything as there wasn't any excess items laying around.
Great sized bathroom and ahower Lack of communication. No response from email or voice messages left prior to check in time (asked about earlier check-in and pin code wouldn't work as incorrect pun initially given).
A bit of rubbish around buildings
No clear process for rubbish disposal vs recycling (recyxle bin on deck full of rubbish and nowhere to dispose of nappies outside.
But, I would stay here again, just with different expectations.
- Nathan (8/5): Perfect, quiet, clean and tidy. I reckon it might be hard to find at night. - I had to ring for the code, but it was a late booking, so not their fault.
- Steve (9/5): -
- Sheree and Graeme (10/5): -
- TOM (10/5): - The view
- TANEO (9/5): - A nice quite place with good view and a number of visits from a few curious wallabies.
- Doery (8/5): -
- Graham (9/5): This is a really nice place to stay. - Location was great Outside rubbish bin was still full from previous clients and no paper towels in kitchen.
- Sachin (8/5): -
- Weerapong (9/5): - The view is amazing. Theplace is comfortable amd clean. We had 3 wallaby came to visit and eat food from our hands. It was a great experience The last section of the road that get to the property is scary for the first visit. The sign is very small. We got lost but we had to get going because the road is too small to make a u-turn and it'
s too dangerous to do so on the moutain.
If you are planing to check in after dark, my advice is please don't.
However, if you can overcome the road entry, the view is breathtaking. We have so many beautiful sunrise and sunset pictures and of course got to play with wallaby.
- Ann (8/5): - The wild life was amazing . The location was amazing however scary to drive in and out . Wouldnt do it at night. could do with a BBQ on each verandah and a out door setting . The cleaners need to move the beds and lounges at some point to clean as we lost a dice and had to mobe lounge . Red bin location is not ok especially if its raining ..very muddy . Beside all that amazing . Amazing property
- Hari (10/5): -
- Jane (7/5): Great views, friendly animals - Views, wildlife Accommodation feels unfinished (no doors on bedroom cupboards) and more functional than aesthetically considered (eg ugly signs dominate walls). Road up to property is quite a challenge, would not want to be arriving for the first time in the dark.
- Lyn (5/5): Nice views but needs some simple TLC. - Beautiful views and nice apartments Sent 2 messages and no response, things not clean. Sofa bed disgusting, rubbish in grass around cabin.
Driveway not well maintained, lots of pot holes and very rough for nearly 4km.
No dishwashing detergent and inside bin filthy under liner.
Generally needs a good clean!
- Anthony (5/5): - Views Horrible journey to get there with poorly maintained gravel roads. Don't really approve of encouraging the feeding of wild animals.
- Kimberley (10/5): -
- Kwok Ming (9/5): Good view, quiet and comfort place - Good view, quiet and comfort place the road to reach the house without lighting at night. It may dangerous when arrive at the night time.
- Relza (10/5): - Amazing views, friendly wildlife, good kitchen.
- chezz (10/5): My trip to my sons wedding - Very beautiful location great views and very comfortable accommodation highly recommended very reasonable price, will definitely be booking again on my next visit to Hobart
- Jade (10/5): Amazing and would love to return if I am ever back in Tassie - I loved everything about our stay here, it is such a hidden gem and the views from the room were amazing. Unfortunately by the time I got there I was sick so I didn’t end up leaving the air bnb and I wasn’t even sad about it, I loved spending my time there relaxing and seeing the morning/evening wallabees. There is one wallabie that came to the door every night, highly recommended getting some wallaby food and feeding it, our 2 year old loved it and would there and talk to it while it ate. The only thing I would suggest is some mood lighting for the evenings to watch TV with as the lights were really bright. Maybe a lamp.
- Charissa (10/5): - Incredible views - especially for the sunrise
Bedrooms are generous, washer and dryer provided, town only 15mins away if you forgot something
- DiewithMemoriesnotDreams (9/5): -
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (10/5): So glad to have found this gem to stay for 3 nights - Loved the views and wildlife and the seeming remoteness but closeness to Hobart Loved it here
- Anita (7/5): Good - Great views & friendly wildlife
- Clifford (7/5): Good -
- Katherine (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (7/5): Good - The views were fantastic You were restricted
No seating outside
- Birgit (7/5): Good - Lovely King Bed , great views and friendly Wallabies. Heating was a bonus A little more attention to accessories
- Chia (10/5): Love it!!! - Great environment..wildlife experience and a great view of the sea and sunrise... It was kinda dark because we arrived the premises late
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful views and how spacious the cabins were. We didn't need to use them but a washing machine and dryer were available to use in the bathroom. The signage. We drove straight past it and once on the property there wasn't really any signage on which way to go.
- Howard (9/5): Comfortable would have liked to stay longer. Perfect for Melbourne airport. - Good location with terrific views. Would have to have some outside seating, fold up and kept inside.
Towel rail near hand basin.
- Cindy (7/5): Good - The little animal visitors. The view was good. The sunrise was exceptional. Quiet spot. No lock on the bathroom door.
- Melissa (10/5): Hidden Gem - Wonderful find, amazing views over Tiger Head Bay side of city. Staying in a fully self-contained unit in nature, about 10 mins from nearest shops (up a dirt road). Very spacious if staying with family or friends. Will definitely return next time visiting Hobart. That I didn't book more than one night :)
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (8/5): Very good - Great views, clean and comfortable space. Guests should be warned that it’s quite a long way from shops and to bring everything they will need. Once there, there don’t seem to be any walking trails or anything to do outdoors.
- Grant (9/5): Wilderness retreat close to Hobart - Location was what we wanted close to the airport next morning. Arrived and blown away by the amazing views and tranquil surroundings and wildlife our friend from Germany was thrilled it suited our situation perfectly loved it 30 min your in cbd zhobart restaurants easy drive. All good just follow the instructions getting into property and you will have a perfect stay
- Bernadette (9/5): Superb - Exceptional views, unique, clean, cosy, wildlife.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kwee (5/5): Passable - We chose this spot hoping to enjoy some wildlife before leaving Hobart, and indeed we were delighted to see several wallabies around the house. However, we did encounter a few issues during our stay. For example, we noticed that a bin labeled "cans only" was already about half-full with general waste. Later that night, around 1 am, just before we were ready to sleep, we found that one of the bed sheets was soiled. Although there was a spare sheet available on the shelf, it unfortunately had an unpleasant odor, and with our early departure at 7 am, my daughter ended up sleeping on the sofa. I reached out to the owner, who mentioned that all bedding is cleaned and washed daily; however, our experience on this occasion was not in line with that standard.
- Yu (8/5): Very good - Products for sale are not clearly labeled for each one. Only food for kangaroos is labeled. Other products we need to check on the wall notice. Reply from the owner is slow.
- Trang (9/5): Unforgettable Holiday Escape - This house offered stunning views and was perfectly located for exploring the region. We enjoyed wildlife sightings and even glimpsed the Milky Way at night. The house was well-equipped, making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. A truly unforgettable getaway.
- Lexie (8/5): Very good - View is wonderful This is little bit hard to drive on road
- Cf (10/5): Superb Accommodation with fantastic view and value for money - The host provided detail instructions including a video to find the location. We arrived late at night and would not be able to find the accommodation without the video.
Check in is easy with key code to collect key from box.
There are 5 houses on the hill and we stay in the Seaview Devil House (4) and it is sparkling clean. Beds are comfy and hot water pressure is great.
The accommodation is not near shops / restaurants so you need to bring your own supplies. Nearest Shopping Centre is approx 15-20 mins drive.
This a tranquil place to rewind and relax. We enjoyed the picturesque view and saw a lot of wallabies at dusk. Nothing really. Gravel road to the property but road condition is fine for normal car. Maybe a good idea to put bigger sign post in the garvel road section so it is easier for travellers to find your accommodation.
- Mark (10/5): Incredible Experience! - It was an incredible experience staying here. We were very fortunate to stay in such a wonderful accommodation with impressive views and proximity to nature with all the mod cons and comfort of a modern house.
I saw about 20 wallaby’s behind the house in the bush when I had a short stroll and four wallaby’s right from the window. For $3 you can buy a bag of wallaby food. Two wallaby’s came up to the house and ended up eating the food out of our hands!.
Yes there is a dirt track to the house and some steep bits but it’s worth the effort and probably suited to cars with bigger tires. We rented a Toyota Yaris Cross SUV which handled it well.
- Thi (9/5): Superb -
- Joshua (8/5): Very good -
- Glenn (9/5): Superb - Everything was amazing. The views, the house....the bed omg great The drive way. If you going to stay here. Bring a 4x4. They need to work on that a lot.
- Steve (7/5): Quite comfortable, nice and quiet. Great views. - The cabin was very open and a good size. The views were spectacular.
The bathroom/laundry was very spacious, and the appliances were nearly brand new.
The kitchen, with a full-sized fridge was good and well set out. We loved the gas cooktop. All the appliances were in good condition and there were plenty of utensils. Although there were heaters for the colder months, there were no ceiling fans, pedestal fans or any air conditioning for when it was warm (there was some sort of air-cooler that needed ice but there was no ice cube tray in the freezer).
Outdoor furniture would be good to take advantage of the views on a warm afternoon. The only way to see the views from outside was to stand at the edge of the verandah.
There were no screen doors, so we had to keep the main glass doors closed to keep the bugs out.
For some reason there was no top sheet on the bed(s), only a bottom fitted sheet and a quilt/dooner.
There was no shelf in the shower for toiletries.
- Zeev (7/5): Good -
- Naumann (9/5): Too brief. - Great location, super clean just the right size. I have no dislikes, just to offer what is intended as constructive feedback: a couple of little things and this would be even better. Bedside lamps, a shelf with some books, games or local knickknacks for colour/ character. Oh and flyscreen on the main sliding door.
- Guohao (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abygailt (10/5): It’s great - The property was clean and well equipped, very homey with excellent sun rise view. N/A
- Annette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Williams (9/5): from here went to the shops got food so easy, also to go down to Port Arthur made it perfect.. - the most perfect place on earth, for location, so clean and cooking was easy also keeping warm, the views were spectacular, and the animal life Wallabys and Joey's were fabulous to see. would go back in a heart beat.. thoroughly endorse for other travellers to use. Nothing to Dislike..
- Mitchell (9/5): Superb -
- Zion (8/5): Very good -
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning views and outrageous facilities, was a perfect introduction back into standard living after the overland track and amazing value for money, beautiful local animals and they're so gentle.
- Celina (10/5): Exceptional - The view was amazing and the wallabies literally came to our door in the early evening. The cabin was very comfortable and had everything we needed.
- Melissa (10/5): A great location and wonderful peaceful break - Everything. The view was picturesque. We loved the quietness and yet still only 20mins to Hobart. The bed was very comfortable, shower was hot. Everything was very clean and great to have a washer/dryer/kitchen facilities whilst away.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashleigh (10/5): Stunning views! Super comfortable absolute value for money. Wildlife was amazing - Stunning views felt like you were miles away from civilisation but only 15mins away from the shops
- Senior_pair (10/5): Views to remember - Quiet, peaceful, fantastic views over the countryside and friendly natives at the door for a free feed.
Found it a great place for a fortnight to use as a base to explore southern Tasmaniia.
- Jessica (7/5): Wally-Bee and sea - The views and the amenities amazing. The wifi pretty crappy. Netflix couldn't work. But not the end of the world for us. Prefer music.
- Satkunam (3/5): Can not recommend - Location is situated in the reserve area. The way to go there during night was so scary. I reported an issue and did not rectify during our stay
- Scott (8/5): We enjoyed staying at this unique cottage with great views, and a clean and modern accommodation. - The apartment was clean, spacious, well appointed and had a great view. Beds were comfortable, washer/dryer was a bonus and worked well. It was nice to have Netflix on the TV. Kitchen was very nice and super clean. The property is in a rustic setting with long and steep gravel road to get to the units on top of the mountain. No problem- you just need to be aware that you are a bit off the grid (adds to the charm, but may not be appropriate for many people). The unit looks relatively new. I personally would add some decoration to the walls, some bookcases or shelves, additional outlets or power strips (no power outlet in one of the bedrooms). The cottages have tremendous potential!
- Scott (8/5): Memorable visit and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. - Amazing views, off grid but comfortable, modern, had a gas cooktop and microwave Small.couch, no Outdoor furniture or BBQ, rough road. didn't advertise hob which it had
- Maartje (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous views Tricky to find in the dark
- Carole (7/5): I had a really lovely evening. Thank you. X x - I loved the location but my friend didn’t like the road but it didn’t worry me. It was fun. Ummm it’s not some something you can fix easily but the window overlooking the view have the frame through the middle so the view was inhibited. If you build anymore cabins do the windows differently so you can have a clear view out.
And an outdoor setting or a few chairs on the deck would have been lovely.
Also I was concerned the bathroom sink may be a little blocked. Slow to drain. May need checking.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
