Guest Reviews
- Mandy-scott (8/5): - Location and space was more than adequate. Kitchen well equipped. Neighbour was friendly. Owner was fabulous for communication and allowed us to book in earlier to help us go for bike ride on arrival as we were in town for 100 mile classic. Would recommend to anyone. Coffee machine had no coffee. There was sachets for instant but would be good for small sample to use coffee machine and frothing capability. I didn't bring my pillow and 1 time I didn't pillows available were terrible, pancake flat and squashable into a ball.
- Suzanne (9/5): Lovely house, great location - The house was well situated within the town. The beds were comfy, and the place was clean. Contact with the owners was a pleasure. We found it hard to find in the dark when we arrived the 1st night. Perhaps leaving the porch light on might be a good idea.
Other than this, we were very happy.
- anthony (10/5): Happy days - It's was like being home atmosphere, well set up and my daughter felt comfortable being there. Not have more time to stay.lol🤣
- Vinod (8/5): Highly recommend for a comfortable stay at a great price - Great location, backyard great for kids to play in More spoons needed.
- LESLIE (8/5): We enjoyed having the space of a home as our daughter and grandchildren could visit comfotably - we thought it smelled a bit musty, I think it had been closed up in the warmer weather, however, once we arrived and opened some windows and doors, this went away
- Kristin (8/5): -
- Anne (10/5): We were relaxed and your Little Red cottage was just perfect for us 3! - It’s a really quaint cottage, location perfect, we walked to dinner both nights we were there.
Shower fantastic.
No noise at all.
Self explanatory instructions through booking.com & on fridge.
We loved it 😉 Nothing !!
- Philip (8/5): Mt Gambier gem. - Plenty of room. Very comfortable. Good position.
- Daniele (9/5): - Cozy place, well positioned. The host was so kind Nothing. Everything was fine
- Damon (9/5): -
- David (8/5): - Dear Wendy and Mark
Thank you so much for letting us stay at your place.
Very comfortable and handy for the town activities.
All the locals were very friendly and made us welcome.
We made the most of our time in the area exploring and managed to dodged most of the rain.
Will be back for sure.
Thanks again.

- Emma (9/5): Perfect and comfy - Loved the cottage was very cosy. Had everything you need. Even Vegemite, washing liquid, shampoo, conditioner all the extras you never think to pack but always need. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc. Great location nice and quiet and close to everything. The only thing was the floors were a bit dirty with pet hair and fluff and I had a crawling infant that kept sticking to all his clothes.
- Gary (7/5): Stay at Mt Gambier - The house had everything included in it, even pegs. Very cosy, with in walking distance of everything. The beds were not so comfortable
- Helen (10/5): - Great location and amenities. Would recommend for anyone that wanted a quiet holiday yet close to centre of the city. Nothing, every thing was what I was looking for.
- Sally (10/5): - The beds were very comfortable, the shower great. We were a group of motorcyclists who had an extremely wet ride from Adelaide so were very grateful for the tumble dryer and drying racks ! An easy walk into the centre of town for dinner. Nothing.
- CW (9/5): Lovely! - The location was very good: close to supermarkets and town. It is a three-bedroom house. Parking is off-street by the side of the house. Access was easy given the door code was provided in good time. The delightful hostess answered one query and was around in minutes to solve the minor problem. The kitchen/dining area worked well. We were able to self-cater easily. Wifi was fine. Charging ports were welcome. All v easy and comfortable. There was a little box with the TV but it wasn't clear how to use it (I have used many), so local free-to-air channels only.
- Brian and Deb (8/5): Great home, well appointed and clean. Centrally located. Prompt and clear communication from owners. - Very easy key collection and good information from owner.
- Leah (9/5): Would stay again. Host was accommodating. - Location was wonderful, easy access, nice outdoor space, tea and coffee facilities. Somewhat musty smell when we walked in but that did not stick around after opening windows for a little. Cozy space
- Vivienne (8/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Very lovely and comfortable cottage - The cottage was very comfortable and accommodating.
- Joanna (8/5): Lovely place and would thoroughly recommend. - Walking distance to the centre of town. The back yard was the perfect size for a kick around of soccer and everything was there for a happy stay.
- Frances (8/5): Perfect location to all sight seeing and the city centre - Location was fantastic. Walked to all shops and restaurants So cold the first night. It took the 3 heaters 24 hours to heat the house. But once it was heated it was lovely. Our stay was in mid winter and the temperature was 1c first night
- Anastasis (9/5): Superb - Good communication easy access close to all facilities perfect for my stay
- Craig (9/5): Superb - A great location to explore Mt Gambier, ample room and all the facilities we needed
- Chris (7/5): Great location - Good location, cute house Attention to detail not there, considering price. Wouldn’t recommend for older guests due to the access and shower setup. Not a luxury accommodation, but great for families.
- Christine (10/5): Great location in clean, comfortable cottage. - Great location, quiet neighbourhood, parking available at the property. Property was clean, well equip kitchen, BBQ in good size backyard, large fridge, laundry, bathroom had a great shower and a bath.
- László (8/5): Very good -
- Kathryn (8/5): Very good -
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Christian (10/5): Great and easy place with the family -
- June (6/5): Easy and pleasant liasing directly with Wendy. Easy access with door login easy to find in town. - Excellent location Shower over bath
No mixer tap
Position of toilet
- Lyn (7/5): Very central location. Older house needing a little lift (which owners intend to do). - The location was very central for walking to main shopping, blue lake and the rail trail.
It had everything needed. Unfortunately we felt the price was too high for what it is. The owners intend to renovate so that should make a difference.
For us a shower above the bath isn't ideal. Very small bathroom. And also (us being older), the toilet was quite a way from the bedroom during the night. Personal preference of course.
- Ronald (7/5): Good - Location, cleanliness, bed, tidy garden, solar and battery initiatives. Kitchen, dining chairs, TV especially remote, noisy air-conditioning, non working exhaust fan , non working light remote in bedroom, missing egg timer measuring cup, no baking paper, tissues, paper towels that many bnbs at this price range do provide.
- Labrini (8/5): Very good -
- Hegarty (9/5): Quaint, quiet & clean - no complaints - Simple door code to enter, all details provided ahead of arrival. Property was quaint & understated, off-street parking & generally quiet. Perfectly fit what we needed / as it was advertised.
- Jennifer (8/5): Everything we needed- space and location the highlights. - Karen was very thoughtful, accommodating our requests. It was great to have a washing machine & a clothesline out the back. The Red Door has 3 bedrooms and all beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. We sat on the front porch in the sun to eat breakfast. It's only a short walk to the centre of town & the lakes are nearby, too.
The owners acknowledge that it is an old property and are gradually sprucing it up. We were very comfortable there -it's a great location. The light in the kitchen is strong but isn't well placed to illuminate the kitchen bench as you are preparing food & cooking.
- Lyn (8/5): Comfortable, quiet and great for what we wanted - just the one night to break up the travelling. - Great location, Easy to park off street. Comfortable and quiet. The information sheet could do with updating - talked about transfer fan and combustion heater, which have been removed.
Blinds very thin and a bit broken and it looked like they were part way through patching the wall following removing the combustion heater.
- Staker (7/5): good, thank you and would book again if available next year - shower water pressure(poor) and length of shower head made it difficult to have a descent shower. you spend a lot of time constantly adjusting the temperature and not bumping into the bath tap.
- Louise (9/5): Value for money, much better than a hotel room for cooking and washing clothes if travelling. - Old style, lots of space, drinking water from a tank, excellent heating and cooling, oven, washing machine, off street parking,
, long life milk in the fridge, close to supermarkets and main street. Some comfort things like cushions on the couch, throw rug.
- Manifold (5/5): Passable - All 3 heaters barely worked. Didn't matter how high you put the heater on or how long it was on for it was still cold to point our skin was purple from being cold. The house had an unusual scent to it when first arrived, which wasn't pleasant. Understandable about it being the owners house, but felt it came with a lot of rules which found a little off-putting.
- Kelly (7/5): Good -
- Charmaine (7/5): Good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (7/5): Short stay, it was a nice and tidy place for an older accommodation. The host was lovely too! -
- Ching (8/5): Very good - The host responded swiftly and positively to questions. Only one toilet, not convenient for our number. Not the issue of the accommodation, but i should have considered that myself before booking.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Located in centre of Mt Gambier, complete house with all facilities.
- Kirsty (10/5): Beautiful from start to finish, can’t wait to return on our next holiday - Great location, close to shops, peaceful area, comforts of a home, plenty of blankets provided Can’t really fault the property, Floorboards make noise like a lot of places with floorboards do
- Dunn (7/5): location was nice, and the house was adequate. - location was great, nice big yard BBQ was unusable, it was very dirty.
Quilts were not washed, could see dirty marks on them.
Images of fireplace but no wood.
- Julie (9/5): Cosy great location - Location was quiet and perfect, the rooms were cosy. All the comforts of home.
- Wendy (9/5): clean and comfortable - would recommend - property exactly as advertised, great communication from host - would stay again
- Damon (9/5): Superb -
- Tuesday (8/5): Very good -
- Jim (8/5): Great little place, Will highly recommend 👍 - Door Code was different between the Host and Booking.Com
- Alissa (7/5): Good - The shower pressure wasn't the geratest
- Georgia (9/5): A pleasant stay with enough space for all. - Great location, in walking distance to the main street and a number of attractions. A comfortable home with plenty of amenities to make you comfortable for your stay! Beds were nice and comfy too! A few cobwebs here and there (not much of an issue). Other than that it was a pleasant stay.
- Ericson (9/5): A home away from home - Minutes away from the city attractions. massive backyard for kids to play and adults to hang around. Rooms can get a bit warm, but nothing a fan can't fix.
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Maureen (10/5): Exceptional - Location, cottage very comfortable, clean.Everything was provided, easy access and instructions accurate and concise. Beds fantastic, storage and excellent access to everywhere. Water instructions important too. Thanks Just an idea to provide a rail at front step, or another step near verandah pole. Little hard with luggage nothing to hang on to.
- Godwin-groves (9/5): Home away from home, can’t wait for our next visit - -Close to multiple shops so beautiful walk
-Backyard for my daughter to practice soccer drills
-complete home feeling Creaky floor boards, bed and dining chairs
- Lyndal (9/5): Excellent family option - Great central location, clean, comfortable and well fitted out. Very creaky floorboards made it a bit noisy.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Kartik (10/5): Thank you for having us - Great location, lovely cottage Carpet had a peculiar smell that may go off if shampooed OR windows open before check in to ventilate.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (9/5): Very comfortable home away from home. - My son liked the BBQ and having their own rooms. The beds were very comfortable and warm. The kitchen and laundry was well equipped. There was really nothing we didn’t like.
- Sandeep (9/5): Superb -
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - Great central location, very tidy house and comfortable beds not being able to change arrival dates without with a change in pricing.
- Clare (7/5): Good - Location was great - pretty much walking distance to everything we wanted to do. Comfortable beds. Good hot water, although shower head seemed to have a leak at one of the joins so there was a fine spray spilling over the top of shower screen The house smelt of stale cigarette smoke. Cleared OK after opening up but came back every time we had the house closed up.
The fridge had not been cleaned since last occupants - found a bit of capsicum and the whole cabinet needed a good wipe out. Otherwise the house was clean.
- Alice (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (8/5): Great little house in Mt Gambier - Having the house to ourselves.
Easy walk to shops and RSL.
- Duanqin (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - House clean and well equiped.
Host bright and friendly. Outdoor furniture is mouldy, unpleasant, and unable to be used.
Bedside lighting too bright.
Towels old, especially hand towel.
No under cover car parking; will be very hot this summer.
Bath shower unsafe getting in and out. Would have appreciated antislip mat and grab rails.
- Anand (9/5): Ideal locatoin for families with kids or for a group of friends. - Dave was at the property before we were there and explained thoroughly about the appliances and the amenities nearby. WiFi, laundry and full kitchen is available in this property. All the facilities offered by the host were perfect for our stay and there is nothing that we did not like.
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Brad (10/5): Exceptional - position, everything you need, comfy beds nothing
- Genevieve (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet location
Close to conveniences
Wonderful host
Comprehensively stocked
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Blair (7/5): Good - The location That the Host randomly drops by randomly to get things from the Property. It has happened both times we have stayed there now.
- Gerard (10/5): Exceptional - Great house and nice and quiet at night. Good location close to everything. Host was very accommodating with early check-in due to Booking.com listing the time incorrectly. Windows could do with a clean but otherwise no issues.
- Anonymous (7/5): great cottage with all you need in a great location - the property was well equipped had everything we needed and it was close to the shops and a concert venue so we could walk home afterwards when you rent a property it is sufficient to have a book with instructions for the house and check out times etc and how to use things. the contact with the owner should be minimal ie email/text no need for personal visits
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional - Just what I needed as a base to travel around the South East and into Victoria. Very clean and tidy. Nothing.
- Gerry_p (10/5): Exceptional - The place is great. Comfortable, well equipped and very well placed. Highly recommended. Well it rained a little....
- Sharon (9/5): good break away - location not enough towels

The location was very central and it was easy to find supermarkets, sights and other locations
The accommodation was perfect for our needs and there were even added bonuses that helped to make our time there easier. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to stay there.
Thanks Wendy for allowing us to sty at your lovely place Wendy did let us know that there was no wifi at that stage and as we have teen children this is the only thing important to them. We did attempt to connect but it just wouldn't work. I'm sure when the next people are there this will be fixed and it didn't impact on our visit it made the kids actually play board games with us instead.
- Vikas (10/5): Nice house - All the appliances, location
