Guest Reviews
Me pareció

- Elisabeth (5/5): - The cabins are quite cute with the hammocks and it’s close to the beach, staff helped book the boat. It’s budget. Staff weren’t around so was hard to get information - had to go find someone to ask for breakfast, generally just wasn’t anyone around so you have to WhatsApp if you need something. Biggest issue was the room wasn’t ready until 3h after check in. Rooms are very basic, fit with the island and the price, fans are noisy and beds are small with the mosquito nets.
- Alessandra (8/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): -
Niks. Het hele huis is open. Je is een tent met een dak. Er waren geen handdoeken beschikbaar. Het water deed het niet. De deuren kunnen niet op slot. - Marlena (9/5): Superb - Beautiful property with charming cottages and a very laid back vibe. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurant across the street that is affiliated (?) with the hostel. There's two stunning beaches close by. We really enjoyed our stay! We were staying during a storm and unfortunately the rain came in through the roof at night. We moved our things away from the walls before they could get wet but I guess it was a bit of an inconvenience. Also, the bed is a little short for people taller than 1,75m.
- Francesca (9/5): Simple but beautiful, such a lovely stay! -
- Sally (9/5): You have to adapt to a place like this and read. There’s no hurry. It’s family run and they’re all great and friendly. I - It was relaxed and friendly there. The facilities are basic but it was lovely to chill out and we loved it . We have two children with us and they loved all the dogs and cats in the area and the parrot next door . They loved snorkelling off the nearby beaches.. Nothing
- Maria (10/5): A little paradise - The place is a little paradise in the middle of the nature! We loved everything about our stay, and all the dogs around the island are so pretty. With right repellent and bracelets mosquitos didn’t bother much and there was not other insects inside! Food options are a bit limited, but being honest we were completely fine for only 3 days. Also Giovanni was great arranging our transportation to and from the hotel! Maybe the fact that there wasn’t AC, but this is a eco hotel so we were ready.
- Alex (9/5): Superb - Great location and peaceful setting. Breakfast is great and the rest of the food at the restaurant is also good. Would recommend
- Alessia (9/5): Paradise place - Location is amazing, a little paradise! Prices of the food in the restaurant are very chip, staff was very kind and helpful. They deliver you the food in your little garden in front of the room, it is extremely pleasant! I hope to be back one day!
- Valerie (9/5): Lovely place, very friendly hosts and great breakfast. - The host was waiting for us when we came from the boat.
- Sabrina (10/5): A great place in a Caribbean Paradise! - We had a wonderful stay! The family and the staff are very friendly, breakfast was delicious and the restaurant is excellent! We highly recommend to stay here and you will be very close to the best beaches of the island. Thanks to Giovanni and all the staff we felt like at home in the Caribbean and we are looking forward to come back!!
- Lilia (8/5): Cozy and nice - The place is cozy and nice. A bit distant from the beach, but reasonable walk distance. I would come back
- Norbert (9/5): Superb - Fantastic location and extremely great staff! The matrasses could be better and replaced and they were full of tiny mosquitos who bit during the night.
- Eb (10/5): A little paradise - everything, from Alvaro being so headful and at the Jetty waiting for me from the staff at the hostel . the location , the beautiful cabana . this is a little paradise at a very affordable price everything if great , there is nothing to dislike , maybe just bring mosquito repellent , the island has mosquitos and they not friendly
- Florence (7/5): Good -
- Laura (7/5): A peaceful place to relax - We stayed in a big house and it was nice, the upstairs terrace was a nice place to hang out! The breakfast was also good. The nearest beach is a short walk away. There is not much to do on the island so bring your own playing cards. The toilet and shower upstairs in the house did not work at all. The water pressure was bad in the downstairs bathrooms. The service is a bit slow and the staff is not always available.
- Natalie (10/5): comfortable low budget stay - We loved the location and the friendly staff
- Olivia (9/5): Great but hot! - The staff were so kind throughout our stay. It was really lovely to have breakfast delivered to our room and eat it in the patio. The bed was comfortable and the island is so quiet it’s easy to get a good nights sleep. The food was excellent. This is really nit picking but the fan was not really enough to keep the heat at bay, the room was so hot and made it difficult to relax. We also had cockroaches in the room but I guess that’s normal for an eco hostel.
- Cleere (1/5): It was relaxing but unfortunately we were scammed - It was a nice family home The owners overcharged us and we had to tell them they did it and then we had to pay again and never received the refund. The food is also quite bad and overpriced. The snorkelling tour was expensive and not worthwhile
- William (1/5): Nightmare in the jungle - The accommodation is located next to a local ghetto. When we arrived the locals were day drinking and hanging out in gangs next to our house. Dogs were running in out of our house as well. The house was inside the jungle not on the beach. You can clearly see that the pictures are taken not to show the surrounding buidlings. My girlfriend got really spooked once we got there and we decided not to stay the night and head back to our other hotel instead. We tried to explain respectfully that this was not what we had in mind. The staff still insisted and wanted their money for the house. I cant understand how this one could be so pricy. I paid over 100 USD for this one. Which I couldnt phantom when we got there.
This was a traumatizing experiences, especially for my girlfriend who broke down crying later that night after we hiked back from the jungle.
- Nora (5/5): Good for relaxing, but disappointing - The place is quiet and relaxed, although the roosters are very loud during the night and early morning. Breakfast is served in front of the hut which is nice. Also loved the hammock in front of the hut, good for relaxing! The room didn’t feel very clean, the van was full of rust and dirt and the mosquito net has stains on it. I booked the lagoon-trip which is too expensive for what you’re getting. It costs 70k for a short boat trip to the lagoon with a guide who doesn’t speak English, so you don’t get any information whatsoever. Then they allow you to swim around for 20 minutes, and you go back by boat. I wouldn’t recommend.
Also, be aware that there’s not much to do on the island. The hotel is very close to Playa Libre but the beach is very small, full of trash and people trying to sell you food and drinks all the time. I was a little disappointed by the island and the hotel.
- Lars (9/5): Superb -
- Cait (9/5): A great place to stay on beautiful Isla Grande - Really lovely place to stay. Our wooden cabin was beautiful and the staff were friendly and kind. We loved the nighttime swim with the bioluminescent plankton and really appreciated them being flexible with our checkout time and leaving bags.
- Blanaid (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing staff
- Danielle (5/5): Just okay - would paid more for more reliable electricity. - Breakfast was nice Power went out in our bungalow at night and we had to sleep without a fan or air-conditioning. Terrible nights sleep because it was too hot. Mosquito net had holes in it so got bitten a lot, cockroaches in the bungalow.
- Minotha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Haley (4/5): Not what we expected... - The location of the hostal is great, being on an island with beautiful beaches. The cabin was cute, the bed was comfortable, and there was a hammock on the porch. The room and bathroom were very spacious. We booked 2 nights with this hostal and found the experience to be more frustrating than enjoyable. The island itself is beautiful and a great experience, but the lack of punctuality with the transport and the lack of professionalism at the hostal made the trip less enjoyable. The female staff seemed more concerned with their phones than with their customers, the menus showed different prices on the English and Spanish sides and they attempted to overcharge us for water on our very first purchase. The food portions were quite small. The cabin, although cute, was open to the outdoors with its elevated roof and there was no AC, so between the heat and the endless mosquito bites, we were beyond uncomfortable. There was a mosquito net hanging over the bed, but it was impractical to use when sleeping 2 adults in a double bed. And sadly, there were unattended dogs all over the island, most of whom had open wounds, skin infections, or injured limbs. We did not see the dogs attended to in any way, and we didn't see them get any water other than what we put out for them. Seeing animals treated so poorly in a "tourist" facility breaks my heart and does not make me want to support the business or the community.
- Simone (9/5): Superb - The island is so beautiful, the hostal was a great choice, the food was excellent (especially the vegetarian rice dish) and the staff was helpful
- Nir (2/5): Bad stay, not comfortable at all for the money, no good common area . - The hammock Not good value for money. You can get the same with half the price in 3 places just 1 minute walk.
No hot water. Very small place that was on construction while I was there so not great for socializing .
The main problem is that the bugs net fell off at night and there was no one to talk with, adding that the room is not sealed, there is a gap between the door/wall to the rooftop so many bugs and other animals found their way in.
Staff offer high price for activities and not speaking English
- Alexandra (9/5): Superb - Location was very easy to get to when arriving from the boat and the room was very clean and spacious. Several beaches are a 3 minute walk away and there are many activities that you can do through the hotel. The hotel is run by a family and is very kind - I forgot something on the island and they helped get it back to me in Cartagena.
- Judy (1/5): Staff is great but rooms were not for me due to open walls and insects - The staff Isabel and food This may be my fault, but I'm coming from the U.S. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and decided to stay here because of the amazing reviews. I am petrified of insects. When I checked in, I noticed my hut was all open, meaning ceilings weren't enclosed, and the blinds of the windows were all open. I’m sure there are a lot of people that are okay with this, but I am not. Insects were coming in, and after 10 minutes staying in the non-AC, open room, Isabel was nice enough to switch me into the next room with closed ceilings.
However, later on the night, I had to encounter a giant island-like tarantula on my wall. Isabel came to the rescue. Sigh… Next day, I had to cut my trip short here and check into another hotel.
If you’re a camper or brave enough to deal with insects, geckos, and creatures, then I would recommend this place. The staff are so sweet. Compared to other hostels I checked out, this was definitely the nicest one. The others around there are disgusting and run down.
- Shannan (8/5): Fantastic service and peaceful island accommodation! - It was so nice and quiet and peaceful. The service was A+ from all of the staff, and the food at the restaurant was good and affordable compared to the Playa Libre prices. Was only a short walk to playa libre and we were able to leave our luggage before check in and after check out. The mosquito net over the bed really reduced the bed size when 2 people are sleeping in it.
- Matilda (8/5): Very good -
- Keller (8/5): Peaceful and tranquil. A lovely place to stay on such a beautiful island. - The food was incredible! Mosquito nets didn’t really fit the bed so bugs still go in.
- Dominika (9/5): Great place to stay in! - I had a great stay at the Eco Hostal. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They will help you to book a boat to the island and if you are lucky, you might be checked-in before 1 pm. They offer tasty and vegetarian friendly breakfasts with a fresh coffee and fruits. Romms are spacious and quiet. It would have been great to have nets in between the roof and the room. The room is open to the air so dust and bugs have easy way in. But the rest was great!
- Jie (8/5): Very good - Very well positioned, with restaurant and gastrobar nearby. The food in the hotel was delicious!
- Matt (8/5): Very good - Very spacious, liked the outdoor area in the main apartment, great decking and Hancock’s. Comfy beds and good dogs. There are board games to play, they sorted out our ferry and back for free even though it was through a different company. Staff friendly and helpful. Didn’t have any gas for the kitchen and had to ask for it on the last day, unknowing it was available. Realise we are on an island and to expect slightly less. Breakfast was a little bit slow.
- Danielle (7/5): Good - Good location close to the port and beach. The staff/kids were very helpful, especially the girl on reception who speaks English. Restaurant onsite was good. The owner met us at the dock on arrival to bring us the Hostal The bug net doesn’t fit the bed. Our bug net wasn’t covering the bed on arrival and because of this our bed was quite dirty from the roof and with insects. The bed was quite small. Our sheet had a stain on it at the bottom, on the 2nd day it had changed to the top end of the bed so we believe the sheet just got turned around rather than changed
- Uwe (10/5): Highly recommended!! -
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Property staff were lovely and location was fantastic. We got in very late and they made transportation to the island and hotel very easy for us. The food at the hotel is very affordable and delicious. It would have been lovely to have nets in between the roof and the room. The room is open to the air so bugs, dust etc gets in easily. A mat at the front would have kept it cleaner.
- Laurens (9/5): Superb - Friendly people, and clean. We liked that we got Coffee and fruit delivered each morning (this was not even yet the breakfast) The mosquito net was too small for the bed
- Jamie (7/5): Good -
- Bárbara (9/5): Superb -
- Michał (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, location, owners and time there:)
- Sara (9/5): Great place for chilling. - Hosts are super nice and willing to help with everything- they did organize taxi and boat transport for us on the way to the island and on the way back. (Sea was very rough on our way to isla- to us that boat ride was scary, so don’t get surprised). Also they organized day tours for us.
Amazing tasty food. We absolutely loved it.
The family is hard working, it’s so obvious that they are trying very hard to make this place better and keep it clean. We really did appreciate this.
Also the price of the accommodation. Facilities are pretty basic but that was expected.
There is an open part in the upper part of the cottage so some insects can come in, it would be nice if they would cover it with mosquitoe nets.
Of course there is no AC so be prepared to get sweaty during the night since the temperature is high- also humidity.
The point is to manage your expectations and then you will love it here.
- Pirmin (7/5): Good -
- Manuel (10/5): Nice people all around - The man who runs the place was super nice, he helped us book the boat to the island. He greeted us at the boat and showed us the way to the rooms. He always helped us on our way around the island. And in the morning they were asking us what we would like for vegan breakfast(we were communicating this before) and they prepared something delicious for us
- Patrick (9/5): Isabelle and her family were so kind. I loved this place: quiet and near playa libre -
- Jan (9/5): Superb - A beautiful place to relax for a while. The staff was super nice and accomodating even thou we didn't speak much Spanish.
- Erika (8/5): Very good -
- Francesco (9/5): Beautiful place in paradise. - Beautiful place, charming accommodation very close to the free beach. Very friendly staff, always trying to accommodate our requests even with the limited language. The breakfast included was nice, with fresh fruit left outside our door every morning. We had dinner there several times and we really enjoyed the rice dishes. Charming outside areas, with hammocks. Spacious room and decent wifi. The mosquitos are relentless: the mosquito net didn't stay up.
We managed to get the return boat at 6am: luckily the sea wasn't too rough, but we heard some bad stories about people who returned at lunch time.
- Leonetta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bogdan (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (9/5): cheap and cheerful - beautiful little self contained cabin, comfortable bed with mosquito net, large bathroom and nice front patio section. very close to all the beaches that the island has to offer.
- Jonas (8/5): Go into this with the right expectations and you will love it otherwise you won’t - When you manage your expectations you will love it here but if you don’t you will get disappointed. The secret beach was our highlight, avoid playa Libre where all the day trippers will go. Keep in mind that any eco-hostal will not have a proper warm shower but a little stream of cold water, many insects in and outside the room and musquitos / sand fleas so bring deet or any other insect repellant and you’re fine Our musquito net was set in a very poor way so it was not very functional to avoid being bitten.
- Martin (8/5): Great stay with friendly vibes - - Super friendly host, made us feel at home
- Bike rent at a good price for almost all the day
- Cabin was comfy and the bed comfortable too All was good!
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - Best host, super nice. Clean. Comes with soap and toilet paper. Mosquito net is great. Comfy bed. Windows do not lock.
- Victoria (8/5): Peaceful, beautiful, rustic - Very nice hosts, loved our accommodations, enjoyed the patio with hammocks. The food and drinks were great. It was relaxing, a little rustic, great place to unwind.
- Andres (9/5): Superb - Service is great, in beautiful cabanas, with the best cocktails in the island for a great price. Close to th free beach.
- Nagy (6/5): Pleasant - simple, adequate, excellent food in the restaurant for lunch and dinner with great value the Marie boat company that they work with is unreliable. the boat did not arrive at the agreed time for the return and when we hurried to meet the boat, they left with out waiting for us. the boat that picked us up forced us to sit at the windy side and was going in such a speed that we were fully drenched. I truly recommend not using that boat company for arrival and departure from the island.
- Walter (6/5): Pleasant -
- Brandon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Whitney (9/5): This stay was no frills island living and a great value! - Álvaro and the staff were very warm and welcoming and hospitable. Hot coffee and fresh sliced pineapple and papaya are placed on the porch every morning around 6:30am so it’s there when you wake up, along with a menu so they can take your breakfast order on the next round and bring breakfast to you. Alvaro set us up with Simon, who took us out to snorkel by day and to the biobay by night. Simon was amazing! He was knowledgeable about the fish and coral that we saw and eager to share this knowledge with us. nothing to dislike!
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Ospina (9/5): Superb -
- Danilo (8/5): Very good - the sea
- Anna (9/5): Nice place! - Alvaro is a really nice host and was helping with the boat to come and go back, the place is relaxed and you can enjoy being in the jungle, beach is close, breakfast is tasty, the cottage is nice with a little terrace. Wifi was working fine and you could pay for the accommodation with card without extra charge. There is an open part in the upper part of the cottage so some insects can come in, it would be nice if they would cover it with mosquitoe nets (the bed itself has a net). When you order food in the hostel it takes very long time to come out (around 1 hour).
- Jasperdbe (8/5): Basic but great! - Very helpful host. Comes to pick you up from the dock and helps you with reserving the boat.
Basic but good accomodation in peace and quiet. Not far from the playa libre. The mosquito net was only attached at one point, so it's on your face when you sleep. If it would have been attached at 4 points, it would be better.
- Kirsty (9/5): Superb -
- Bianca (9/5): Superb - Wonderful Eco hotel located in a great area of Isla Grande. The staff are so lovely and helpful and the rooms are extra large with a huge bed and clean. Highly recommend the property!
- Cynthia (8/5): Very good - The host was very friendly, the bed was so comfortable, and the staff was very helpful. I loved that I had a mosquito net on my bed and I loved the hammock on the front porch. The water pressure was very low...understandable for an eco-hostel, but still...
- Naomi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (9/5): Great. Recommended - The host Álvaro was super nice. The breakfast was great. The hotel has a deal with a beach bar, so they allow you to use the beach chair and parasol for free as long as you order something.
- Jamie (7/5): Good -
- David (8/5): Just a great place to chillax in a tropical island environment away from the loud beach bars. - great location with pretty much everything within a walk or bike ride. Great island feel - laid back, friendly, place to chill, not over-commercialised. Hosts very friendly and attentive. Facilities are fairly basic, which was expected. Maybe a mop or squeegee would have been handy to control the water on the bathroom floor, but not a big deal
- Miléna (7/5): Good - - The mosquito net was very welcome and I thought the room was quite comfortable
- the food offered by the hotel was really good
- there is wifi which is a very good point, and it was working - the big downside was a roaster yelling from the middle of the night till early morning, and then some construction work starting a bit later. So not the quietest place
- also, keep in mind that because it’s in the middle of the jungle there will be insects and animals in your room. I had the visit of a lizard, some spiders, bees, ants, larva, cockroach and other animals in the roof no idea what it was. I am not too sensitive of this but i guess it might not be for everyone.
- the restaurant of the hotel closes quite early (8 p.m)
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Jordan (3/5): Poor -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - staff really nice. location incredible. no mosquito net
