Guest Reviews
- Miguel Angel (10/5): Tranquilidad - Recomendado!! Excelente !!!
- Jorge (7/5): Good and cheap spot in Isla Grande! - Simple yet sufficient breakfast made by the locals. One of the building collapsed while we were there. Luckily nothing happened and everyone is OK, but it was a somewhat frightening experience
- Travel (2/5): Disappointing stay - Only positive point in here was mosquito net. When you get off the speed boat you Only have to walk 5 min or less to get to Campo Verde. As there is no running water at many of the hostels on the island, there is a bucket system for flushing. Here at Campo Verde, there are two buckets: one relatively cleaner water for shower(there are visible worms and insects moving at the bottom of this bucket, wish I took a video of them dancing there) and another one (dirt water, maybe laundry water) for flushing which is outside the cabin, you have to fill up a small bucket take it inside the room while it's dripping all over. I checked out other hostels on the island, but they at least at a shower and only one for flushing. This place is managed by a mother and a daughter who do not even bother to properly welcome you and maybe give you information about the island. They gave us bikes to ride to town to get cash as they don't accept cards, only when we returned we realized that we have to pay for them not to mention that the bikes don't even have brakes!! Lights and fans went out after two hours of use after dusk, and they said its a solar energy, that's why!!! The rooms are not properly insulated, so we saw all kinds of bugs and a big rat. I hope this review bring their attention to make changes to their accommodation since there are much nicer ones in their neighborhood within the same price range.
- Stas (5/5): Nice place but we got scammed - The place is really nice and quiet, big rooms and super close to playa libre. We booked a tour through the hotel to see all the islands of Rosario and we were told it would be a privet tour for 150k each. We agreed, but the morning of the tour we had another 5 people joining us and later we discovered that all of them paid less for the tour, between 100k-75k each. We felt scammed and disappointed and we never saw a compensation for it although we reached out to the hotel. This is why it's hard to recommend this place, make sure you are not being scammed.
- Justus (9/5): Authentic - Really authentic stay on Isla Grande. Manual water managemen, taking a shower with a bucket -- but that's OK and real! Guy took three of us on an extremely good snorkeling tour. Really personal. (No WLAN (and no cellular here as well), but actually that was quite nice to focus on reality and not the Internet)
- Stanley (8/5): Very good - Location was good and personal was friendly The room wasn’t ready, sheets were dirty
- Ray (2/5): Survivable - No electricity, no WiFi, no water
- Dan (4/5): Disappointing - The location was great, amazing island 1. Bucket showers, although it is written just be aware of that
2. We wanted to take a snorkeling tour through the hostel but they were late and we had a boat back
So we didn't do that at all, make sure you schedule and they know what hour it is and that they will be on time
3. We took a transfer back to cartagena through the hostel, they said not to worry and that we will have place.
No need to say that when we got to the boat we were very lucky and there were enough places for us. Of course the hostel staff said not to worry, we made sure at least 5 times we have a ride back but they did not schedule it.
- Bachofer (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good - Geraldo and Beatrice. Such lovely hosts. So helpful with any requests. Beatrice is a great cook - best lunch we had on the island. Brought us cafecito every morning. Geraldo put us on to his brother Guillermo for a fantastic snorkel and island tour. Just be prepared that it is like camping - not luxury. Cabins aren't fully sealed so you sleep under mosquito nets which can be hot, and you may have tiny bats flying around in the morning. The shower is a bucket - but Geraldo will always keep it filled for you.
- Lina (7/5): Minimalistic but good. Great staff! - LOVED the people that worked there, so helpful and kind! Cooked food for us at 10pm and really made our stay great!! The food also tasted amazing! It’s very minimalistic, so don’t expect to much. It’s good if you wanna relax and be without internet for a few days. No Wi-Fi, no doors to the toilet and no shower (bucket you shower from). It’s like camping, so the name speaks for itself. Still really liked it and did not mind it!
- Jessica (6/5): Pleasant -
- Maryline (5/5): Passable - Maria was a very good host, very kind! She even waited with me at the dock for the boat to pick me up. The food for dinner was delicious. Walking distance from a few beaches (5 minutes) A good 25 minutes walks from the little ''pueblo'' so it makes it difficult to go for dinner since you have to come back in the dark and might get lost.
The guide from the Hostal charge more than triple the price for excursion tour, its better to go at the beach and ask the local for tours, you will save a lot of money.
The room was not very clean and full of insects and lots, lots and lots of cockroaches, I saw so many INSIDE the room even on my suitcase :( I slept with the light open because I was too terrified.
- Anja (6/5): Pleasant - The location is very close to all of the beaches worth seeing. There are hammocks in the common area. Its very basic, there is no running water, there is just a bucket with water but its fine. There are mosquito nets over the beds, which came very handy! :) the ladies dont speak any english but are very friendly.
There are american pancakes and eggs for breakfast and an option for a dinner as well.
All in all nice experience but not for everyone. No shower and not the cleanest place but thats the charm of it :)
- Novak (10/5): if you are looking for 5 star resort, this isn’t it. but if you are looking for a quiet, friendly island experience for - simple and quiet. nothing. best value for the money.
- Kaj (10/5): Exceptional - The people are really nice and helpful and serve you simple but amazing food! Perfect to experience the real island vibe
- Pascal (10/5): Exceptional - This ecolodge Is located in a quiet location, just 200m of the beach. It has a relaxed atmosphere with a common area and hammocks. Staff is very friendly andwilling to help in case of issues.
The fried fish is delicious.
