- Grenache (6/5): We had a nice time, though we lacked some of the comforts we are accustomed to; might come again :) - We had a nice time. The house was tidy and has good heating available in each room. It also has good kitchen facilities; a fridge, a microwave, kettle, toaster, stove, oven, cutlery and dishes. It has a nice big TV in the living room and a big enough dining table; a nice verandah. *Guests need to provide their own fitted-sheets, top sheets and pillow cases, or contact the manager, Dianne.
*Bathmats and teatowels were provided -as specified- but were about 1 each. So I suggest also bringing some of your own.
*Dianne, the manager, is polite, and answered when I called. I found it more productive to talk to Dianne on the phone than to use the Booking.com message system which may silently cut messages short and renumber your lists, leading to potential confusion: assumption that information has been given which hasn’t, and confusion about which list item we are talking about. I thus don’t recommend using the Booking.com message system when communicating.
*Some of the instructions were inaccurate: a wrong house number; the internet password is on the modem, not the fridge as was told us.
*Paying by CC attracted a merchant fee of about $16. Booking.com did not warn me of this. Dianne has told me that rectifying this she will show the merchant fee on Booking.com, to warn future guests before they give their CC details. Paying by bank deposit is an option. Talk to Dianne about that. Dianne refunded my CC payment and we used the bank deposit option which is without any merchant fee.
*Don’t count on the Wi-Fi. The Internet provider during the duration of my stay provides a ‘starter’ plan with only 1Mbps ‘typical evening’ upload speed and I suspect that this is what the owner has chosen, because my family and I experienced slow and interrupted Internet throughout our trip which was worse in the evenings. I’ve contacted the manager, Dianne, to suggest an upgrade of the Internet plan, who has contacted the owner about it, but I’ve received no affirmation that this has been resolved or of any intent to resolve it. I suggest that guests get a cheap mobile data plan -e.g. for $30 from ALDImobile- to take care of your own Internet needs.
*The toilets&bathrooms had no proper locks on them; nor any bedroom. Locks would provide greater comfort for families
