Guest Reviews
- Anja (4/5): -
- Adam (7/5): Long weekend in the heart of Wallonia - Lovely old chateau building on the edge of woodland and a small village, near the medieval castle of Spontin. Friendly owner lives on location. Children enjoyed exploring the large garden. Eventually it would be good to install more comfortable beds, particularly if guests stay longer than 1-2 nights. Cleanliness, especially of kitchen, could be improved. One small toilet-shower for a group of five can get inconvenient - perhaps less suitable when travelling with older relatives.
- Douglas (6/5): We used it as a base, it was simple and very basic but good value. - Lovely building although we only had a small wing.
The bed were extremely comfortable. We were 6 people (4 grown ups and 2 kids). The host only provided really small towels which were only just enough to dry a child.
Also the local shops were a way away and the host only provide a few tea bags, one bag of crisps and a can of coke. No, salt and pepper, oil, coffee, milk, sugar. So if you want I to cook then bring EVERYTHING
- Esmaralda (8/5): Great stay - Beautiful house in a good location close to Dinant. Fully equipped kitchen (excl. microwave) with lots of cutlery. Calm and relaxing outside. Lot's of games (e.g Chess) in the livingroom. Free wifi and parking. Enough space for our family of 6. The TV did not work - asked a code. We had to wash some of the cups etc before we could use it as it was not properly washed. No toiletpaper left for us to use and we had to go into town to buy toiletpaper the next day (we managed with tissues we had in the car).
- Maria (6/5): Pleasant - The castle looks quite historical and beautiful and the hosts were very friendly. The house is not very child friendly (for small children) since the stairs are very steep and the bathroom opens right onto the stairs. There is also a bit of a musky smell in some of the rooms (I'm sure it's fine for most people but I'm quite sensitive to smells so I noticed it).
- Robin (10/5): Good - Location, relax, enjoy with family All was there.
- Malcolm (10/5): Exceptional - It was amazing to stay in this beautiful 1922 chateau. We stayed two nights so we had a chance to drive around the area and tour some of the historical sites. The family were super friendly and helpful. She gave me a birthday gift and was left treats. Wish we had our whole family with us, because they could accommodate 6 people. It was awesome to have a fridge and stove to do our own cooking. Thank you for the wonderful stay! It was a little tricky finding the driveway entrance.
- Nitin (5/5): Passable -
- Nelson14 (8/5): Very good - We had a lovely New Year's Eve at Chateau de la Motte. Unlike what staying in a stately manor might suggest, the rooms are rather simple instead of luxurious. However, we had everything we needed for a nice stay. The rooms are in a side of the building that may have been used by servants in the past, not in the main house itself. We took a side trip to Ciney and the beautiful old town of Namur, Dinant is also only a few miles away. Unfortunately, the chateau is somewhat aging, mainly the farm buildings of the estate are not in good condition. This does not detract from the quality of the stay, but it does make you realize how costly it is to maintain such an estate.
- Gaetano (6/5): Charming but spartan - The location is lovely, small quiet village with typical blue stone houses, well connected with the highway and the rest of the area. We stayed over Christmas and it was very nice to find a Christmas tree and some decorations in the house. Also the private parking space is very practical. The house is very small and has only one tiny bathroom. The entire place seems in dire need of work/renovation, we went in the winter and did not use the outdoor spaces but I saw quite a few hasards out there (for children at least). Other then the overall lack of cleaning (my kids socks turned out black, found quite a bit of traces of dirt that should not have been there, the bedding instead was perfectly fine) I think it would be nice and thoughtful to leave at least some basic supplies for visitors to use (we found one and a half roll of toilet paper, and that was about it, would have appreciated 2 coffee pods for the first morning, a wee bit of sugar, a bar of soap, trash bags - along with instructions about how to separate the trash - and some basic cleaning supplies...)
