Guest Reviews
- Philip (10/5): Highly recommended. - A wonderful stay in a charming, historic cottage. Hosts were thoughtful, knowledgeable and communicative. Chiltern is a wonderful village to explore the delights of the region. Nothing.
- Timothy (10/5): Relaxing and comfortable - Very comfortable. The historical artefacts, books and pictures on the wall were very interesting. Had a great time looking through all of the information about the area. A great town and so nice to talk to the locals. A beautiful little market where picked up some goodies. Lots of space in the old house and enjoyed sitting on the front porch reading and relaxing. All was great.
- Rooney (10/5): Beyond what I hoped. - The host went well beyond to fulfill a special request. The property was gorgeous with every amenity you could want. Outrageously good. Communication was outstanding. The support that the property amd the owners have for the local community is amazing. We will return. The bed was firm but that is a personal preference. It was a quality mattress with good pillows and covers just a little firm for us.
- Eric (10/5): Perfect place to unwind - What an amazing place! The house is beautiful; historic, like a museum (there is so much to see and read) but with all the modern amenities. Great shower room, good kitchen, lovely garden & veranda. The owners are the best - I have never met such awesome and helpful hosts! They live somewhere else, but the level of hospitality is amazing. And Chiltern was a lovely surprise! Cute little town with surprisingly good cafes/restaurants. Nothing :-)
- Janette (10/5): Loved our stay - thank you. Will definitely be back - Stunning property. Beautifully renovated with perfect furnishing for the house combined with the mod cons and tech subtlety making life easy. All beautifully put together right down to the butterfly curtain clips! Loved everything
- Elisabeth (10/5): -
- Tracey (9/5): Well kept historic building. - Lovely historic well kept building The pillows I think could have an upgrade. You had a choice of a rock hard pillow or a pillow that was so soft and flat it disappeared when you put your head on it, highly recommend taking your own if you were driving to this property .
I also think the second bedroom has far too much clutter in it for the size of the room, this made it very difficult for my elderly parents to move around in. I think by decluttering this room and having the availability of plugs beside the bed to plug-in phones or whatever else is required would be a benefit.
- David (9/5): Charming, beautifully decorated house with antiques - Charming, beautifully decorated large house, antiques, a lot of provisions, comfortable bed. Great communication from owner. The enclosed fire was great in lounge and the AC in the bedrooms, but we felt cold in the house.
- Leo (9/5): We enjoyed our stay and we intend to stay again later in the year. - We liked the location
The house was warm and we liked the variation of old and new parts of the house. A carport would have been good.
- Glyn (9/5): Superb - What a beautiful historic homestead, so lovingly preserved and honouring the history of the home in every room :)
The kitchen was stocked with every kitchen item one could ever need, with basic provisions like coffee, tea, salt, pepper, spices and cleaning materials all generously provided!
The bottle of wine - of one's choice! - on arrival, along with milk and breakfast supplies, was another lovely touch!
The property is perfectly located for trips into Rutherglen and Beechworth, and the shops and cafes of Chiltern town are a tiny walk away.
Over and above all of this, Merv and Tracey were absolutely outstanding in their communication - from the day of booking, through to check out. Their very clear instructions for getting to and into the property made arrival an absolute breeze, and there was also plenty of useful information for using all the features in the home 😊 The property truly deseyves a 10/10 rating, and I'm sure if we had travelled in summer, I would have scored it a 10. But on the cold and wet winter weekend we were there, we found the home really chilly when one ventured away from the lovely warm fireplace in the lounge room or the air con in the main bedroom. A heater or 2 in the rest of the house would have made a big difference!
- Merrilyn (10/5): Girls weekend in Chiltern - Loved all the memorabilia and information around the property. Nothing
- Harris (10/5): Exceptional - Easy, convenient, relaxing.
- Kamy (10/5): Exceptional - What a gorgeous place to stay!
And great communication with owners too.
Honestly, just wonderful all round.

Bringing back History with modern technology and charm, the gardens and external surroundings let us capture our last minute wedding photos! The hosts are exceptionally brilliant and made us feel right at home offering us everything we needed to feel right at home! There is no better place we could have stayed for our romantic weekend! We will be back to revisit our amazing weekend getaway! They even gave us a late check out which allowed us to soak up the morning sun , Thankyou Tracey and Merv ! We are so wrapped with our stay and will hold these memories forever

- Lisa (10/5): A wonderful historic property with all the luxury modern conveniences - The property was exactly as described. The cleanliness was exceptional and location perfect to stroll into town. Our hosts were very friendly and our stay was very relaxing. The chilled bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch
- Peter (8/5): Charming property. Millie next door was fun - we liked all the historical memorabilia that decorated the house. The house had old world charm “Hey Google” didn’t really work for us. We were not able to work out how to warm up the TV room.
- Shantelle (10/5): Beautifully decorated and furnished cottage - Beautiful 2 bedroom cottage filled with historical information and antique furniture.
Really enjoyed our stay at Mortimer' Lodge in Chiltern. The beds were comfortable, it has a fully equipped kitchen, beautifully decorated and furnished and smart home functionality (being able to turn off lights from bed was very convenient). Lovely garden to enjoy some local wines.
- Claudia (10/5): A fabulous 3 day stay to take in the beautiful winery region. - Excellent property. Beautifully presented keeping old with the new. Very clean with lots of added extras. Owners provided excellent communication
- Amanda (9/5): Perfect cottage for a short stay and in a great location to explore the surrounding area - Communication from hosts, vouchers for a free wine tasting along with a bottle of wine when we arrived.
Cottage was cute, loved all the historical bits as well as all the modern features too.
