Guest Reviews
- Kim (3/5): Outdated and missing some basic features - The place was very spacious and had many additional supplies like condiments and cooking equipment. We arrived late after dark in torrential rain. The house is set up so that there are two contained loft bedrooms with queen beds and one child's bedroom downstairs close to the bathroom and toilet. My son wanted to sleep near the toilet but we couldn't turn on the light. We found a lamp on a tall boy but it was not plugged in. We searched in the dark for a powerpoint but we couldn't find it. We tried to open the ceiling lamp but it requires screws. As we turned it, it flickered on and off indicating an electrical issue. We decided it was not safe to continue turning it. I messaged the owner the next day who advised us that the powerpoint was up behind the bed railing of the top bunk. They suggested we change the light bulb ourselves.
We were told to bring sheets but not floor mats for the bathroom. As a result I had a nasty fall in the bathroom when I attempted to grab what I thought was a fixed shower screen above the bath to turn off the constantly dripping shower head. It wasn't fixed and I slipped on the wet bathroom floor and now have a gigantic purple bruise from where I fell onto the bathtub. Luckily I did not fall on the wet floor.
The rather old old Panasonic TV does not have a working remote and yet the remote is displayed on the table as if it does work. At first we thought it needed batteries. I advised the owner and they replied "thank you" to getting batteries. They did not offer to pay for them.
We purchased and put two AA batteries in the remote and it still didn't work. I text the owner and they advised us to "use the buttons on the side of the TV." Unfortunately the buttons on the side of the TV do not operate the DVD player, which also does not have buttons. I find it hard to believe that they did not know their remote was not working. They claim to live in another state as a legitimate reason they cannot maintain their holiday rental to basic standards like an operable tv and DVD player.
- Ben (9/5): Superb - Great location and well appointed. Mattresses were a little on the hard side. Sofa beds were showing their age.
- Shonah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claire (10/5): Amazing and brilliant location - The retreat is amazing, it has everything you need in a brilliant location. Plenty of room, games and DVDs to keep everyone entertained. Short stroll to the beach, playground, shops, takeaway and bottle-o. Great price for the amount of beds. This is our go to place to stay at the bay. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the things you could need including pantry staples. Nothing bad to say about the retreat on Matthew. Wish I had booked a longer stay!
- Louise_tp (9/5): Very satisfied and spacious - This house is very well equipped! Loooved the upstairs deck with my morning coffee. It was nice with the aircon in both bedrooms.
Living room is very spacious and had lots of puzzles and board games, DVD movies and books to read.
There was all you needed to do a clothes wash! It's a little odd that you have to bring your own bed linnen since everything else is provided to you.
- Anh (9/5): Superb -
- Jesse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danielle (9/5): Superb - Location was great, just a short walk to shops and beach. Mathews retreat had everything we needed.
Would definitely stay there again. I didn't like there was no shelter at the front and back door. Shoes got wet when it rained. My dog had a bad second last night the neighbours weren't very friendly about that.
- Ashley (10/5): amazing - how close the beach was and amazing food places close to the bay no isalation
- Rona (9/5): Superb -
- Bri (8/5): We had a lovely visit, would absolutely stay again for a longer period. - The property was quiet and clean, and in a great location. Owners were very friendly and helpful. I found it frustrating we needed to bring sheets and towels. There are also no shower mats or hand towels, we didn’t think to bring those. I would absolutely recommend this place for those staying for a week or longer, but for a short stay, it was a lot to pack and be prepared for.
- Cheryl (10/5): Exceptional - It was perfect. So roomy. There was nothing we didnt like.
- Di (5/5): Passable - The carpet was very dirty. I vacuumed in twice. The carpet needs a good clean. Bathroom has a terrible smell like there is a problem with drains. Bathroom sticks when closing and opening.Washing machine and dishwasher leak. The garbage bins were full. Maintenance needs to be done.
- Mitchell (8/5): had a good time was comfy and quiet - closes to shops and pet freindly beach
- Nikki (10/5): Enjoyable and comfortable stay. The house and backyard were well set up for relaxation. - Great location, very well provisioned and comfortable. Everything was great!
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Great space for the whole family and our dog. Loved the games and the fully enclosed backyard. There were no matches to start a fire!
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Man&rox (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kamal (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (8/5): Very good -
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - Very well equipped and loved having a washing machine, dryer and fire. Comfortable beds. Felt like home! Nothing
- Martin (7/5): Good - games, dvd’s, size lack of towels and sheets
- Trisha (7/5): Great location and pet friendly . pizza shop at local shops best in town - Pet friendly needs light out at BBQ, tv in bedrooms would be great .
- Jo (8/5): Really great few days in a home away from home especially as we were able to bring our dog ! - Great Location and the best equipped holiday rental we’ve ever stayed at. Even had squeaky toys in the garden for the dog ! It is quite dark but that is the style of the house. The tiles coming in from
outside we’re a bit slippery.
- Amanda (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (10/5): Perfection - Well equipped kitchen. Plenty or room. Great DVD and games selection. Location is walking distance from park, beach, iga, fish and chips and more.
Couldn't be happier.
- Jennifer (9/5): Would definitely stay again - The house was super cute and unique. Great location. Had a great time with the family. We were given the wrong access code for the keys so had to call for the correct one but they answered right away.
The upstairs hallway light was out so a bit dark.
- Amber (6/5): Pleasant - Pros: cute cabin - better inside than the photos! - with absolutely everything you could possibly need and fully stocked kitchen (including spice rack, paper towels, cooking oils, tomato sauce, etc). Walking distance to beach, shops, supermarket, bottle-o, playground. Walk to the Catalina Country Club. Fully enclosed backyard and very pet friendly. Neighbours were all fine and no noise. Cons: both main bedrooms (upstairs) have only half walls so almost NO privacy for people sleeping in those rooms. They are open to each other and the rest of the house. Zero chance of adults/parents having any private time, or even a private conversation away from kids, as all sounds reverberate off the pine ceiling - everyone can hear every sound upstairs and down in all rooms very clearly. This wasn't disclosed in the listing and felt really disappointing as we booked for a week holiday and as parents we need a break, too.
Also, no upstairs bathrooms or plumbing means a long trek to the loo in the middle of the night.
Overall, this didn't work for our family and would be best suited to one couple, or parents of younger children who could utilise the bunk bed room downstairs.
- Olga (2/5): Very poor - Location The bedrooms upstairs but the toilet is downstairs, very uncomfortable for family.
The house is dark and the garbage bins were full when we arrived and stayed full for 3 days.
- Klaus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional -
- Berringa77 (7/5): Good - Good quality holiday home near beach and shops Externally the property is ordinary but inside it has been substantially renovated. The internal configuration may not suit some people.
- Erika (7/5): Nice but attention to detail needed. - Nice and close to the beach. Fully equipped house. Beds are aren't comfortable. Pet hair all over furniture. Dog bone in one of the bunk beds.
- Rebecca (8/5): Great location with everything you need, well set up - great location, could walk to shops and beach no bathroom upstairs
- Claire (9/5): Superb -
- Alya (8/5): Very good - Spacious unit that could accommodate two families with kids. The undercover balcony upstairs was filled with light and a nice spot to relax. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed the fire place (but you need to bring the wood logs). A bonus for the kids was that the property had many games, books, DVDs and Netflix for them to use, as well as free WIFI. Good location, few minutes walk to the shops, beach and nice kids playground. Noisy neighbours and thin walls between the units.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Very good location All was good
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Matilda (5/5): Passable -
