Guest Reviews
- Sally (9/5): -
- Stacey (8/5): - Nice and clean, had everything we needed, very comfortable stay. The communal BBQ area was very nice. Parking on the side of the road with the low overhanging trees and a lot of traffic going past at all hours made it a bit difficult, we struggled to get things in and out of the canopy.
- Penelope (10/5): Really loved the pool, almost outside bathroom and calmness - Beautiful and calm feel!
- Rankin (8/5): -
- Abbie (8/5): Was good as a base to explore Maggie island - Like the gardens, lots of space within the property, along with a washing machine and dryer I had no hot water, later found out the owner forgot to turn it on
No USB charging points
Air conditioner goes off when leave property as key fob to make it work attached to keys
3 air conditioner units in the property alas took forever to cool down and only the one in living area worked to its full potential
Chairs weren’t that comfortable
Large refundable breakage deposit
- Jessica (7/5): Relaxing, beautiful, convenient and amazing vibes - Absolutely loved the outdoor shower. Vibe of the pool was amazing all the gardens and how central it was. I just loved everything about it. It was just so conveniently nice relaxing and good. That was a couple of cobwebs around and I don’t know I’m a cleaner so I’m pretty picky about clean cleanliness but that’s it. Really like a couple okay? A few garden cockroaches came inside here and there but that’s to be expected with all the gardens which are beautiful by the way.
- Nick (9/5): - A great location on Maggie. Easy to find, easy to get to wherever you want on the island. Very laid back and peaceful. No issues at all.
- Wendy (9/5): - Lovely Balinese style cottage
Beautiful garden shower
Beautiful gardens and pathways
Will visit again
- Gardner (9/5): Enjoyable! - It had a lovely pool & barbecue area. Everything you needed for a stay inside as well.
Monica was very helpful. It was a little smaller than we envisaged but turned out to be quite adequate.
- Lee-Anna (9/5): It was a very nice place to stay. Had everything you need and more. Very private and peaceful. - The rear private garden. The outdoor bathroom. The privacy. Everything you need in the property. Comfortable bed. Air conditioning. Pretty much everything How the air con turned off when you went out. You came back to an extremely hot unit and took ages to cool down.
- Amandine (10/5): Amazing place for your stay on the Island - Loved this place, everything was easy from beginning to end, the cottage was spacious, garden amazing, good location, AC working perfectly, bed comfy... Nothing
- Pauline (6/5): - Close to public transport and the beach When booking it said it had 2 rooms but the other bed (bunk bed) was in the kitchen area. Thought we were coming into a Balinese apartment but sadly nothing like one, it was clean though.
- meredith (7/5): - Loved the peace.
Gardens If I didnt have a car it would be an inconvenient place
- Darcy (7/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): Great - Lovely quirky property in gorgeous gardens, about 20 mins walk from Nelly Bay. Comfortable, clean accommodation. Lots of wildlife. No milk in the fridge on arrival (which we have had at every other accommodation in Australia) - helpful for a cuppa on arrival. Extra towels would have been helpful.
- Ben (7/5): -
- Candice (8/5): - Excellent service from Monica.
Perfect for my elderly parents with limited mobility. Simple but had everything we needed.
- Gerschwitz (9/5): -
- lou (10/5): Un logement magique sur une île fabuleuse - un cadre magique
- Cees (7/5): Het was goed voor een paar nachten - Het was schoon. De buitendouche was erg leuk. De bedden waren goed. Genoeg ruimte. De locatie. Beetje achteraf. De bushalte is 250 meter lopen.
- Louise (10/5): -
- Cris (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): terrific spot, spotlessly clean. ideal family getaway cabin - very clean. well appointed with condiments and kitchen supplies. comfortable beds. beautiful bushy garden and very private. handy location. nil

- Niboddhri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tors (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was amazing. Will definitely return and stay again.
- Cockayne (8/5): Our stay was pleasant aside from the mozzies the first night. It’s 4 stars from us - The property had nice surroundings and was centrally located. The unit was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bedroom had several mosquitoes which made for an uncomfortable first night, as the unit had no fly spray we went and bought some which improved the next nights sleep. The bathroom is a little tight around the vanity and the unit didn’t have a hairdryer
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alana (9/5): Superb -
- Cameras (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -

- Yolande (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful property - the shady gardens and pool made it so relaxing!! The location was wonderful, a short walk to the bus stop or directly into Nelly bay. Would love to come back someday :)
- Pamela (9/5): Enjoyed every minute!! Can't wait to come back and get that island feeling again..!! - As it's centrally located in Nelly Bay everything in walking distance or bus right outside door! The ambience is catching - spotlessly clean! The shower is very slow - takes extra long to shower and wash hair so not sure the water saving device is worth it but being an outdoor shower delightful anyway
- Seth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mrs (10/5): great place to stay - everything we needed and a beautiful peaceful area
- Siobhan (8/5): Very good -
- De (8/5): Very good -
- Daniellamenoes (10/5): A hidden gem. 100% will be back! - A gorgeous cottage in a great location. Close you bus stop for easy access to the main locations. The bus driver's even started dropping us out front.
We loved the shower being partially outdoors.
Air conditioning in all rooms. Comfy beds.
Access to pool and a magnificent BBQ area.
Great tropical island place to stay and relax. Nothing
- Lisa (5/5): Passable - Bus stop. Out the front of accom noisy!
- Cameras (9/5): Very enjoyable - the tranquility of the place with the lovely rainforest garden and the call of the birds.
- Crowther (7/5): Good - Outdoor show
- Peter (8/5): Comfy and tranquil accommodation - Comfortable bed, well designed unit lots of cross ventilation for the tropical breeze, compact but everything I needed for a comfortable stay, lots of wildlife around, great little courtyard for breakfast You need a PhD to work out where the light switches are.
- Sam (7/5): Good -
- Marilyn (9/5): Comfortable and relaxing environment. Close enough to walk to Nelly Bay ferry and eating places. - The quiet garden setting. Ample room to relax outdoors. The cottage was ideal with separate sleeping areas. Loved the outdoor shower. The watering system overnight, which I thought was rain at first. Got used to it on the second night.
- Carol (9/5): very relaxing - very clean and quiet all was great
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Justin (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Sean (10/5): 3 days in Nelly Bay. - What a fantastic little cottage!
I wandered down to Shambala from the Sealink terminal on Magnetic, easy walk with luggage.
Cottage 1 is set in a serene tropical garden, super clean with enough room for 2 to 3 people to enjoy their inside time.
Monica was extremely gracious and does a brilliant job looking after the property.
Loads of wildlife, groovy outdoor shower, good little kitchen with extra touches.
Recommended. .
- Brent (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful vibe,
Gardens,
Self contained,
Close to bus stop
- Gal (9/5): Chill place to stay, great atmosphere - Yes Very small kitchen
- Sonya (8/5): I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely consider staying here again! - A lovely place, serene, private, incredible bird life, very close to the bus stop, beautiful surroundings, good kitchen facilities, very convenient washing machine and drier. The only thing that was a little bit problematic were the little tiny insects that were everywhere, particularly in the bathroom. But then again, it's North Queensland!
- Mary (8/5): Very good - It was comfortable and clean with a cute little pool, and I loved the outdoor shower experience It was a little overgrown so not a lot of light around it.
- Shelley (8/5): Very good - Two families travelling together. The common area between the two was perfect. Cottages were clean and comfortable. Convenient to ferry. The pool was in constant shade so was quite cold.
- Jenni (8/5): A very pleasant place to stay. Nothing fancy, but there was everything that you need. - Surrounded by gardens. Had everything we needed. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Colleen (9/5): Superb -
- Rosemary (8/5): Very good -
- Janeen (10/5): Fantastic on every level - Was a fantastic spot that suited our needs as 3 single people, we will definitely be back Nothing - it was perrect
- Deborah (9/5): An unusual and delightful place to stay - An extraordinary place, it’s like a little rainforest in a suburb. Spacious and comfortable. Outside spaces to sit, eat and watch the wildlife. We used the huge barbecue and ate at the outside table. The open air shower was an experience. The whole place seemed to be exploding with wildlife.
- Jinish (8/5): Very good -
- Therese (9/5): Definitely would stay again, staff were very accommodating - Great location, had every thing we needed, lovely gardens Air conditioning not fantastic, single bed mattress lumpy
- Chrissy (10/5): A quiet retreat set in a lush garden, we loved staying here. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. - Great location with easy access to Nelly Bay ferry
Has everything you need for your stay
Quiet garden setting Nothing - we loved staying here
- Yurina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): The perfect stay in Magnetic Island! Definitely recommend staying here, great location and Monica was very accommodating -
- Gail (7/5): Great spot but lacked winter sun. - I loved the ambience of my unit. The lack of available sunshine due to gardens. Would be fantastic in summer but for the travellers from the southern states who love winter sun, not there.
- Esme-may (6/5): Pleasant - location, the gardens, how quiet it was rather dated and ended up staying in the accessible cottage when it wasn’t requested
all of the kitchen equipment smelt really fusty and damp
- Rod (8/5): We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at Shambhala. - Our cottage was very clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed. We enjoyed views to beautifully maintained tropical gardens in every direction. We also enjoyed the outdoor bathroom which included a small garden. The pool was cold and could do with solar heating.
- Harold (7/5): Good - Location
- Josie (8/5): Excellent base to explore the island from, staff communicated well & apartment was very clean. - The gardens, it was very clean, quiet Was all good. Rooms were a bit small but we were out a lot
- Bernadette (8/5): very comfortable stay with added bonus close bus stop - very clean, comfortable beds, bus stop close Big hairy spider in bathroom
- Kerrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabriela (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was incredibly beautiful, the gardens are wonderfull, having breakfast with that view and the singing of the birds was energetic for me, everything very clean, the host very friendly, helpful and quick to respond and provide solutions to my needs; it is the perfect accommodation to spend your vacation. I loved it very much.
- Christine (9/5): Superb - Always a relaxing stay
Clean quiet Given how little network coverage there is on magnetic it would be improved by having access to wifi which is becoming standard for accommodation
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Apollo (10/5): Perfect for me and my 2 children. - everything Might be just me and my OCD but a vacuum cleaner, I don’t like brooms.
- Kelcey (9/5): Good value, great tropical garden setting, very relaxed atmostphere - The gardens are beautiful and the pool is secluded and refreshing. In unit 1 There are three rooms and each bedroom opens out to a small private patio area. There is an enormous BBQ so we cooked up breakfast and ate alfresco on the outside main patio where the BBQ area has a large table and chairs in the garden setting.
- Jennifer (6/5): Pleasant -
- Daniel (5/5): Passable -
- Bárbara (8/5): Very good - The cottage was pretty cute, I like the facilities and the location There is not lights outside the cottage, it make it a bit difficult if you have kids, my girls got scared outside and not lights, the parking is the street, questionable is you have a yut full pack
- Greg (8/5): Very good - The cottage was better then we thought .very comfortable . lots of room for 4 people… but unfortunately it rained so much we didn’t get to see much of what the property offered … we had a few issues but thankfully Monica sorted those out best to her ability.. would we stay again yes but not in torrential rain with young kids … Septic toilet .. and no internet could be a plus .. DVD player was our savour.. Ty
- Angela (8/5): Balinese Retreat - The Balinese Gardens, swimming pool, large BBQ area communal area however this was only whilst we were there alone, little bit harder when there's more families staying but loved the private seating area outside the bedroom and the privacy between rooms. We were missing a Doona from the Queen bed in main room and there was blankets on all other beds.
No accessible extra pillows or blankets hidden in cupboard.
- Sunny (9/5): Superb -
- Rae (9/5): peaceful and relaxing - beautiful garden. very peaceful
- Jay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlotte (9/5): Lovely cottage with comfy beds - Great location and beautiful gardens Cockroaches came into the cottage which was a shame
- Caldwell (5/5): Shambles Cottages - the distance to town was good In the cottage that we stayed in was very old and outdated. Quite expensive l thought for what it was. $155 per night
Very uncomfortable furniture. The air-conditioning only worked in one room , but there were three units.
single bed for an adult was not ideal .
l did see one of the other cottages and it was modern and lovely.
We dipped out.
- Christian (8/5): perfect - quiet, comfortable
- Marina (9/5): Beautiful stay in a tropical paradise. - Lovely small cottage in beautiful gardens. Felt like one was in the midst of a beautiful garden but protected from the surrounds by screened windows. Love the bathroom. Beautiful plug pool to cool off. Nothing really although I think at least one air conditioner was not working. Did not really miss the air conditioner as the fans were enough.
- Garry (10/5): Exceptional - Very relaxed place with all the necessary kitchen gear to allow catering at home.
Air flow meant that we didn't need AC and the openair shower was lovely.
Comfortable bed and pillows so slept well.
- Jane (10/5): A serene place to stay with lovely, well-equipped cottages and beautiful gardens. - Lovely caring people and a spacious cottage with everything you need n/a
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - All of the facilities were excellent. We used the BBQ and the outdoor space was great.
- Graeme (10/5): Tropical Hideaway devoid of traffic + nightlife yet only a short distance from all facilities - Where do I start?
1. The spotlessly clean huge BBQ facility just outside the door.
2. The immaculate tropical garden enviornment
3. The huge rooms with Blackwood period furniture and an outside private shower that you sometimes find in Fiji Resorts
4. The serenity of being away from noisy town and streets
5. The charming manageress who "quietly" queried if all was in order and to our liking. The Miji's and Mozies that "hide" in the lush tropical garden ..... Don't forget to pack the Bushman's!
- Renae (10/5): it was just what I needed to relax, and re-establish my peace of mind, and center myself. - so peaceful, and beautiful garden’s
- Linda (8/5): Tranquility on Barton - Loved being in the bush with the birds and the lizards, very calm and peaceful, beautiful gardens Nothing
- Nat (1/5): Don’t pretend that you are accomodation! Go look up - Nothing. Here is someone ripping off people using their crappy accommodation to make extra money without keeping up to current accommodation standards and integrity. Everything !
- Diana (8/5): Enjoyed the stay at Shambhala , I will come again. .. - Loved the feeling of peace there , thank you
& the tropical shower was a treat thank you .
Monica was helpful & easy to deal with - thank you. Maybe supply some milk be a help , until guests can get to the shops ✔️
