Guest Reviews
- Siggi (8/5): pleasant last night before getting home on a loong flight - we didn’t had breakfast cos we had to bring rental car back and getting ready for our long flight back home was quiet challenging to find .. lots of one way streets around that hotel so google/waze sends you around .. but we managed :-)
- Carolina (10/5): - It was quiet. Had A/C. Staff was superb. Less than 15min walking to the center. The water flow did not work in the beggining when we arrived. Afterwards, it got fixed but every now and then the water pressure still was low at times.

- HECTOR ARTURO (10/5): - Personal muy amable y muy rico y abundante el desayuno
- Armando (10/5): My Go to Luxury Property in Costa Rica For Sure! - I am happy to give this property a FIVE Star Review anytime! A wonderful place with charming staff that do what it takes to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Thank you Nicol, Fatima and Leslie for being such wonderful hosts.
The morning breakfast was impressive and set us up nicely for our travels. Everything was outstanding. There was nothing not to love.

- Donald (8/5): - Good for a night downtown. Room had a moldy smell, but the bed was very comfortable and staff exceptionally kind and helpful.
- Joan (7/5): Worked pretty well for us - Historic property, wonderful staff went way above and beyond for us, clean, comfortable beds You really can’t walk at night. Way too sketchy. But Uber’s are easy to get and inexpensive, so that helps a lot.
- Heitzer (10/5): This boutique hotel is absolutely charming. The managing staff are a lovely couple who go out of their way to make you f - The property was absolutely gorgeous! A unique gem full of history and mystery.
- Joan (9/5): Great place to feel cared for and at home in San Jose - The manager, Diego, went out of his way to make us feel like we were at home. We experienced such kindness from him. We arrived around midnight, following 12 hours of travel, exhausted. At midnight he offered to cook us a full breakfast free of charge because there were no restaurants open (holiday.)We also loved the architecture and setup of the rooms. There is a comfortable lobby where you can sit and relax or chat with guests or staff. This is also where breakfast is served. The rooms have high ceilings and beautiful woodwork. The beds are very comfortable! The only downside is that this hotel, in the neighborhood of Amon, is an area where you cannot walk at night. In the day, you can walk to cafe Rojo, for wonderful coffee, salads, etc. and Ubers are a cinch to get in San Jose, so you really don’t need to walk!
- Sarah (9/5): Diego and the property were great. We enjoyed our stay very much. - Beautiful and unique setup. Great location. Parking was very secure but not very convenient.

- Carina (10/5): Rigtig flot hotel - Hotellet lå meget centralt.

- Angela (9/5): Superb - The staff were excellent and really looked after me despite the language barrier. Music was played for the first couple of days throughout the hotel, which meant my room was not peaceful. I asked for peace and quiet, and the repetitive piano music was turned off. That meant I could read or rest.
- Helen (10/5): Our San Jose stay. - Beautiful building interior. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was large and comfortable.
- Murray (6/5): - Lovely building but though high-ceilinged, rooms were stuffy. Marble work in bathroom but shower drained poorly and bathroom could be cleaner. Staff was pleasant and helpful, but not available before 7am. They have to let you out of the locked gate and buzz you in. One little bottled water per room (we were two). Location on busy street, very walkable area.
- Edmund (6/5): Pleasant - Good location. Old world setting. Nice staff. Had to ring bell at street for staff to let us in. Not recommended for late night arrival or entry. Noisy wood floor to walk on.
- Cora (10/5): - Great room, lovely breakfast, and super easy to get to and from, would stay again!
- Rachel (9/5): Very nice place, I'd consider staying again. - Good restaurants nearby. Friendly helpful staff. Very pleasant breakfast. Pretty quiet for San Jose. Shower drained badly. Thin walls to lobby and next room (no problems, people were quiet). A little less clean and quality than I expected for the price, though still nice.
- Lukas (10/5): - Beautiful hotel! Very helpful and nice staff. Old and sturdy construction with antique furniture. About 7-10 min walk to the center and markets. They saved me from getting towed and also made us a nice breakfast. We’ll be back :)
- Eran (7/5): Good - The address is not super accurate.
We asked for a breakfast to go because we had to.leave early but we were refused.
So, we didn't get breakfast.
- jeanne (10/5): - Really cool, old building. The rooms are clean, updated and comfortable. Has parking in their garage so you don’t have to worry about your car. It’s a great location that’s pretty close to the central market, cathedral and museums.
- Michael (10/5): - I can’t begin to describe the excitement that we had upon arrival. The two receptionists went above and beyond to make our experience and stay one of the best that we have ever had. They were absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this property. Everything is walking distance. Once again, I have never been treated with such great kindness and hospitality as the two receptionists gave. If i could rate them and the property as 10 stars… Trust and believe! I would.. Thanks so very much!!!
- John (10/5): - Lillian was a stellar host and great help with coordinating a city tour, offering us food options, and overall a very nice person to talk to. The included breakfast received us from our long travels and the grounds were absolutely breathtaking. This is a quiet hotel that’s conveniently located near the center of the city.
- Norman (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing property right in town. A liitle piece of history. We were warmly welcomed despite arriving late from the airport. Our host was great giving all the local advice we needed to enjoy San Jose.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good - This is an interesting property if you interested in being in downtown San Jose. It's a historic property, and not yet popular as we were the only ones in the small hotel until our last night. The staff is attentive and the public areas are comfortable. It feels a sketch at night in the hood but we didn't have any issues going out for dinner or drinks.
- A (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the uniqueness of this hotel. A former mansion, it has been lovingly renovated, upgraded and restored by the family who has owned it for the last 20 years. The lobby is truly grand and the room was very comfortable. Liliania, who we believe is one of the owners, was a wonderful host.
We will stay here again!
- Kimberly Jo (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful place. The staff was exceptional
- Charlotte (2/5): Bizarrely Empty - We had a bizarre experience at the Hotel Majestad. We appeared to be the only guests in the hotel. Only one hotel staffer was on duty the entire time--she spoke no English and had limited patience for my boyfriend's limited Spanish. Despite the hotel being empty, we were brought to a room that had a king size bed, but was so small the bathroom door had clearly been shaved down to avoiding hitting the bed--very much not the "suite" we'd paid extra for. There was no breakfast buffet, but the lone staffer did present us with a light breakfast of her chosing. We asked if we could check our bags for the day and she informed us that no one would be working at the hotel from noon to 4pm, so they couldn't store our bags.
Gorgeous, historic building... Absolutely bizarre stay.
- K (9/5): Superb -
- Barbara (7/5): Overall an enjoyable and interesting stay -something different! - We were looking for something less modern and the hotel met those needs. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were okay with our low level Spanish since the staff did not speak English. The breakfast was good and basic Costa Rican fare. It might have been nice to have a little snacks and drinks available for purchase since there is not restaurant or bar. The floors were very creaky which were fine - I only hope there was no one below us. It is part of the charm of an older dwelling. The wooden floors and lobby were quite nice. The building itself was beautiful. Liked the free parking inside the building. Location is very good - we worried a bit about city noise but it wasn't a problem. An extra glass in the room would have been nice since there are two of us. Again as I said above, some light refreshments available for sale on site would be nice since there is no bar or restaurant.
- Lh (10/5): Excellent location. Hostess was very friendly and accommodating. - Liked the breakfast. Noise from outside traffic could be challenging for light sleepers.
- Gustavo N (10/5): - Great decor, close to downtown
- maureen (10/5): - The Hotel (Mansion} had belonged to a former coffee family early in the 1900s and is located in Old Town San Jose. The highly update Mansion had atmosphere and character for the period. The area is in transition with many of the mansions in the area being renovated. Karla, our host, was the most helpful and personal staff member we have ever met. She made us feel at home the moment we arrived until we left for the airport 6 days later. The location was totally walkable although buses ran everywhere, or Uber was an easy text away.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Margaret (7/5): The property is very nice with a nice room, comfortable common area, outdoor green space, but understaffed. - Beautiful building, very nice room Location not ideal at night
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
