Guest Reviews
- Page (7/5): - Close to town, clean, had all the basics. That you couldn't park on the property.
- rhonda (6/5): A comfortable home base, - Have stsyed a number of times a very comfortable place to stay, centrally located for our needs.
Very spacious and affordable.
Will probably use the property again. Showerhead could be upgraded.
- Erin (10/5): Way better option than staying in a motel room with minimal facilities. Highly recommend. - Quiet location and fully equipped home away from home. Owner was very responsive and helpful. Original old floorboards were a little bouncy so was worried that I might go through the floor.
- Alaina (9/5): -
- Anthony (2/5): Adequate - Location OK Needs a new cleaner and power sockets piggybacked 3 time not safe, needs TLC
- Sofia (3/5): Disappointing. Car got broken into, it’s a bad neo - There was no nothing to like. The property is old and dirty. Really not worth the money. The shower was in a bathtub. The bathtub was dirty and disgusting. Water pressure was so bad. Dishwasher wasn’t working as well. My car got broken into. Bobby had cameras on the side of the house but wouldn’t respond to any requests. The main highway was flooded so we couldn’t make it on the 10th. Instead we checked in on the 12th but Bobby wouldn’t change the dates or provide a partial refund.
- Carey (6/5): - Every door lock was broken, faulty or falling off the door. Dogs next door barked all night.
Bathroom is in desperate need of renovation.
- Debbie (2/5): - Hot tub advertised - spa bath, missing jet. Dangerous mats. Oven not working. Uneven floor. Foil on 1 windows...untidy outside.
- Maslin (5/5): Would not stay there again or recommend it. - No food supplied Better heating, very poor
Holes in windows need to be filled in
Blind in bedroom facing road would be appreciated
Back yard needs to be cleaned up and fence repaired. No security.
Screen door needs to be able to be locked.
Shower was very poor.
Side yard also needs attention, very messy.
Walkin wardrobes were locked. No where to hang clothes.
- steven (7/5): Enjoyed staying in the house . Friendly relaxed atmosphere. - location fine the back fence should be put back up
- Terry (4/5): Comfortable and good location pity about the tv and wifi not working - Clean and comfortable No tv kept cutting in and out freezing, had to turn off couldn’t watch it.same with the wifi kids unhappy couldn’t use their iPads
- Mia (10/5): Was good, would stay again - It was in a good location with a solid air con system which helped in the heat wave Nothing I didn’t like
- Emmaline (10/5): - Very comfortable and homely. Neat and clean, with everything needed.
- Wintle (8/5): - Suited our budget ans was clean and comfortable. Neighbours dogs barking most of the night.
- Fonua (10/5): -
- daniel (10/5): - For a 3 bedroom house and full facilities can't go wrong. Super comfy beds as well
- Wayne (6/5): Adequate - The property itself was adequate without being extravagant. It was exactly as described being a miners cottage. The wifi was good, the facilities generally were good e. The alfoil on the bedroom window was unusual. Our main concern was the back door could not be locked. We reported it and after 3 days the lock has not been fixed
- Derek (3/5): - Well where do I begin ? I should have perhaps read previous reviews highlighting the many issues, I didn't. But I most definitely will in future. "Modern" it certainly is not. The address was not immediately apparent so we drove past, more than once, counting the numbers relevant to neighbours. " it cannot possibly be that run down hovel" we thought. But our trepidation was soon confirmed. To suggest the exterior was a total mess is the understatement of the whole trip. Upon entering we discovered the cleaner still at work although our arrival was within required period. My first issue proved the most troublesome. Nails in the timber floor raised so shoes were needed at all times. Safety was also a concern with the shower over the bath. No handrails for older people. And difficult to climb the bath itself. The shower unit itself is antiquated , rusty and in dire need of replacement. no hooks to hang clothes. So they were thrown on the floor.
The kitchen/ lounge area was awash with power leads and multi plugs. An evident Hazzard. Dinner plates, cups, cutlery were a mish mash of many and varied unmatched items. Hardly 2 the same.We were informed by the cleaner that the stove was not working. There goes the evening dinner plans. After locking the front door at night, we were unable to unlock in the morning, necessitating an exit from the rear door. Does not bode well were there a fire ! I could continue but can only suggest to prospective guests that rather than discount negative reviews as I am prone to, to seriously reconsider booking this property. In conclusion I urgently suggest booking.com review whether this property meets the standards of their many clients who like me will be sorely disappointed. As above
- Arthur (7/5): Enjoyed exploring Broken Hill. Cottage made the stay easy and relaxed. - Perfect for three old mates on an outback adventure. Basic but comfy, nice beds, quiet location. Backyard is wild and unkempt, definitely a no go zone, especially if you had kids with you. Backyard. But it is as described, an old miners cottage in an outback town so could not expect more.
- Michelle (10/5): I love it - It was clean Not a thing
- Kathleen (10/5): -
- Alicia Jonas (8/5): Doesn’t look much on the outside but comfy as - We liked the location The barking dogs in the neighbourhood that continuesly barked early hours of the morning on both nights we stayed
- Kellie (3/5): Old and cold! - The linen was clean and the house was tidy. Good location. House was very freezing. Was very cluttered with old broken household goods. Ants in kitchen.
- Terrie (8/5): Very comfortable, clean and budget friendly - Very comfortable beds No off street parking
- Michael (10/5): Excellent - Rverything No exhaust fan in the bathroom.
- Penny (3/5): Budget accommodation - you get what you paid for - The cottage was part of Broken Hill history & a walk to the CBD. There was a dishwasher & a good supply of soap & detergent etc. Books, games & jigsaws were provided. Sheets & towels were clean. The cottage was in poor repair. There were gaps between the floor boards, a door handle nearly falling off (texted the man who was the contact for this unit & got a message that it would be fixed). The door locks fitted poorly. Windows in poor repair. One window in the front bedroom was simply covered with cracked foil insulation rather than a blind. Our bed was unsupportive & uncomfortable. The kitchen bench was covered in an assortment of appliances - so many that there was no work space to prepare meals. I could go on... In sum, it made for a very uncomfortable stay.
I would have given the cottage one star except that it was budget accommodation & expectations should not be too high.
- Marlies (8/5): Very good - Could not get 7 9 or 10 channels on tv
- Clint (9/5): Superb -
- Sequoia (7/5): Great central spot and close to town. - Clean, tidy and has many useful appliances. Outside could do with a little face lit. Back yard is unusable and could do with a re fence. Otherwise. Great value for money.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hindle (7/5): Loved the area. Easy walk to town. Cleanliness inside was great and beds were very comfortable. - Having 3 separate bedrooms was great. Inside was clean, neat, tidy and the beds were very comfortable. My mother struggled using the shower (stepping over the side of the bath and needing to lean on the vanity) and with the height of the steps down to the bathroom. Instructions for the TV would have been useful as I got no response from the owner. Having the sensor light swtiched on for the front verandah would have been helpful when we were trying to find the key lock in the dark. It was not where we expected to find it. The front verandah isn't cleaned by cleaner (lots of cigarette buts and beer bottle tops). Obviously that is an issue with the cleaners not owners. Boundary fences and yard reflected a "non loved" impression while inside the cottage reflected the opposite.
- Mandy (7/5): Nice and comfortable beds, basic on the outside but clean and well kept inside. - A bit basic on the outside but lovely and clean inside with very comfortable beds and a good kitchen. Some maintenance needed - broken chair and my mum got locked in the bathroom because the door fell off the runners and we had to lift it up from the outside to get her out!
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Zelko (10/5): Cozy, warm and inviting - Cozy
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Van (3/5): Not worthy - Location close to where I work. Beds are uncomfortable, home walls patch and unfinished, limited appliances and dirty.Spider webs on bathroom, other people's stuff still on drawers, no place to hang clothing.
- Faye (6/5): It was ok for what we wanted - It was large enough for our group It was hot
Couldn’t find the controls for air con
Not that clean
- Helen (7/5): Good - It was cosy place to stay The ants were everywhere in the bathroom and kitchen area
- Charlotte (5/5): Unfortunately let down by cleanliness. - Well located, easy check in, strong aircon, spacious living room, large bedrooms. The place was unfortunately really dirty - there was a used nappy behind a sofa cushion, a tampon in the bathroom, dust everywhere, and lots of ants. The facilities were a bit knackered - the dishwasher didn’t work and the oven had been replaced by a stovetop oven and separate hobs.
- Paige (6/5): Pleasant -
- Cameron (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Ngaire (8/5): Very good - Good for overnight stay Problem with ants but every thing else was fin
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Tristan (10/5): The cottage is beautifully presented inside and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. -
- Keane (5/5): Overall we had a great stay. - The air conditioner was great. Communication with the owner was excellent. The house is affordable and central to main shopping centres. It was cheaper for us rent the house than to camp at the local caravan park. The bed mattress in the back room was terrible and appears to have collapsed, it should be replaced. The toilet did not have a lock on the door. There are no fly screens on the windows, so we could not open them. The television did not connect to wifi
- Carlene (10/5): Exceptional - Absolute little gem. Perfect for our family of 6 stay in Broken Hill for a wedding. Do not be fooled by the outside. Inside is clean, all amenities work just fine. Beds were comfortable, bedding was good. Location was central to all places. Thank you forva comfortable stay.
- Michael (7/5): Great stay and very comfortable. - Property was well appointed with all you would want. Back yard was unusable.
- Bridges (8/5): Would recommend - Very clean and comfortable and the lady we met was really nice. None
- Christina (10/5): We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone - We liked the area the house was in. The walk to the main part of town was good also. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Casey (6/5): Pleasant -
- Saundercock (9/5): A miner's cottage with updated bathroom and kitchen was an ideal base from which to explore the Hill - The location was close to town. No problems with the neighbours. It was a miner's cottage and felt very homely. We could have stayed longer... so much to see and do in Broken Hill and surrounds.
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Bismi (8/5): Very good -
- Cahill (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heard (4/5): Disappointing -
- Gil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dean (8/5): Very good -
- Maeve (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Close to town, walking distance
- Chris (9/5): Enjoyable, comfortable cottage. - Very comfortable, tidy stay. Secure and nice quiet area of town. One bed was a bit soft and worn.
- Steve (8/5): A nice change after Motels & Pubs on a long trip. - A nice rustic Cottage with some Modern Features, better than a small motel unit with room to move. Well supplied with utensils and facilities to be self sufficient. Takes a bit to heat up up but ok when there. Front bed mattress very tired. Strong smell of Cigarettes at rear. Water pressure low but hot, u get wet ok!
- Leeanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Franck (9/5): Superb -
- Anke (8/5): Very good - Good location, big enough for 6 people, clean. Cold draft under the entrance door and gaps around flashing of A/C
- Ann (6/5): Pleasant - Very quaint & cute! Hard to work out heating & appliances, eg toaster didn't work, touch lamp in middle bedroom kept coming on by itself over night,
multiple heaters but no instructions & some power point/light switches taped over so we couldn't work what to use nor how to use them.
Kitchen cupboard with crockery too high & awkward for shorter people like me.
Bathroom heater too high to be effective, shower over the bath was not a safe option for older people. The shower itself was great.
Floors are beautiful timber & lovely to walk on but constant feeling that the foundations need attention!
The house smelled a bit odd - old cooking?
Served our purposes and enjoyed our visit to Broken Hill, but a bit of work is needed.
- Shaquille (9/5): Superb -
- Ray (6/5): Ok but could have been more comfortable. - Heating was inadequate. Not sufficient tea/coffee supplies. Needed to wait while property was cleaned ready to be occupied. No written instructions for tv operation/rubbish disposal etc.
- Peter (7/5): Good - Quiet location beds were nice Bathroom needs an update my mum and auntie couldn't have showers and the shower pipe is rusted and held on by wire . The back room was cold heating for the house could be better
- Cj (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (6/5): Only just acceptable - Good location. Good beds. Heating was extremely.ely noisy and not very effective . The cook top was pathetic as was the oven
- Linda (4/5): AVOID - The property is not as advertised. Yes, it has 3 bedrooms, cooking facilities, and a tv, however it fails to meet expectations as described in the ad, AVOID. Refer to photos, attached, unable to attach more than 4 photos. In summary: 'welcome' message from owner was unfriendly and warns of extra costs ìmposed if property is not left clean, despite its overall appearance of being unclean, from first appearance. Front garden is sad and dying, and entry is dirty, with plastic furniture, ashtrays, and spiderwebs, first impressions - wrong address?? No security parking, only a space on the streets at front or side of the property, back yard is not accessible. The 'ambience of the surroundings from the outdoor dining area' comprises a mismatched plastic outdoor setting plonked outside the house next to the bins, with complimentary cigarette butts, with a view of a desolate backyard and dilapidated outbuildings; cooking facilities are outdated; bed linen daggy and stale; TV reception and WiFi useless; electrical plugs sticky taped to power outlets and shower head tied on with electrical wire. The property has many hazards, including steps to bathroom hidden behind a curtain, dodgy electrics, non opening windows. Lounge chair is propped up by a brick on a face washer, despite this effort its not possible to sit on the lounge due to the air con unit protruding into seating headspace. If you are accustomed to sleeping in a tent and need a roof over your head for a night, go for it, otherwise AVOID. Please note, reviews going back 2+ years provide similar feedback and nothing appears to have changed. Unsure how reviews result in 7+ rating? Shame I didn't read reviews prior to booking. We cut our losses and left, would rather lose money than stay.
- Chris (8/5): Very good - Creaky floor
- Helena (2/5): Beyond disappointed - The washing machine worked Cooking facilities, beds and linen. Neither modern or charming. Broken couch, every dining chair wobbled. "Hot tub" didn't work. Main Heater didn't work, pulled out portable one filthy behind it. Rabbit ears on tv only picked up 2 or 3 channels
- David (10/5): Why would anyone stay anywhere else in Broken Hill? - Very clean, comfortable property. Good kitchen, comfortable beds and very good value. A simple, older style home but one that ticked all our boxes. Washing machine & dishwasher were bonus extras. Easy walk into town. Nothing.
- Tamara (9/5): Superb -
- Georgina (9/5): Fantastic stay - Excellent family accommodation. Working aircon, comfy beds. Great communication with owner
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Sean (6/5): Wood ant, could ant, should ant. - The location was good and central for our outings. The fully equipped kitchen was not as described as per photos. The free standing cooker had no gas and a small electric oven and electric two burner plate was placed on top of that. The two burner failed to produce enough heat to cook our meat and vegies so we were forced to purchase a camping stove.
The bloody rug in the kitchen area was a tripping hazard also.
We also had ants throughout the house and no matter how much antkill I sprayed, they just kept coming.
My mattress had a large dip in the middle making it difficult to sleep.
The lounge had a broken leg and on closer inspection found that none of the legs had been completely screwed in.
- Kendy (7/5): Good -
- Scott (6/5): The exterior presentation of the property is a big let down. - Property is very close to town centre & decent amenities The outside presentation of the property is below par. It’s very sketchy looking but the interior is decent & comfortable.
- Donald (7/5): Good -
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Lynne (9/5): Stayed 2 nights basically only used for sleeping, but nice quiet location. - Wasn't included
- Adam (7/5): Older style, but has some charm - This is a rustic type of property, if you are looking for a property with character, rather than the usual modern build, then you might enjoy this one. The kitchen and bathroom are relatively modern and are big. The house has 3 quite big bedrooms, all with double beds, so 6 people can be easily slept in this property. Access was easy by way of getting a key from the locked key box at the house. The walk to the main part of town was about 20 minutes. Plenty of free car parking on the street near the house.
- Dorothy (10/5): All great -
- Talavao (10/5): I had full privacy and had the whole cottage for my family. Great property and will definitely stay there again. I was a - Great location in a quiet area.
Internet available and furnished.
Three comfortable bedrooms and great little cottage for value. I like everything about the property
- Wayne (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Clean, comfortable. Handy to Main Street.
Towels,linen all supplied. Excellent!
- Maree (8/5): Family Stay - The house layout was good. Lots of room. Bedrooms were comfy. Kitchen was modern. The front yard & backyard need some TLC.
TV reception was bad.
- Mcaneney (4/5): Enjoyed our stay - No breakfast purchased ours Quaint little cottage but needs a lot of TLC. Needs a lot of maintenance, floor boards, hand rail down the stairs. A good clean up in the back yard. Nice little house for lots of people. We liked it as we had our own space
- Lynette (2/5): Dissapointing - Booked this as offered 3 bedrooms and self contained. Description says renovated but condition is shabby. Roller blind is 2nd bedroom fell down when I tried to raise it. Heating is an old box air conditioner poorly fitted, noisy and ineffective. Lots of draughts and rattles. No safety rail for shower over bath and dangerous step down to bedroom 3 and bathroom. Nowhere to Gand clothes. Noticed rustling amongst food we had on bench and then saw a mouse the next day in the kitchen. Notified the owner, next morning the cleaner came a placed bait boxes. By then booked somewhere else to stay.
- Leon (8/5): Very good -
- Risley (6/5): Clean and comfortable family home. - Everything was clean. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of space. Area that it was in was very average. Loud neighbours down the side street and very loud cars speeding up and down the street in middle of the night. Backyard was just weeds.
- Mel (8/5): Very good -
- Jan (10/5): Very comfortable and warm. - The location was a little out of the way but we were able to walk to a nearby hotel for dinner.
Everything you could need was provided. Very well heated. Outside presentation was a little disconcerting but pleasantly surprised by the inside.
- Maddie (2/5): Nothing charming, nothing modern - Not much The backyard of this place was so dangerous!! It was not safe for kids at all. It had a busted toilet in the laundry that had water in it, a covered up pit in the old carport that didn't look secure, iron missing off the back fence and an old above ground pool. I could not let my kids go out there. The back yard was not secure, anyone could come in and the lock on the back door wasn't very secure.
The description stated it had a fire place, there was a gas heater in that that didn't work. The stove didn't work. The only heating was a reverse cycle stuffed in the front window. No instructions on not using the stove or the gas heater.
There was no fire extinguisher.
The description said there was an outside area to enjoy....there was nothing to enjoy.
- Hubert (9/5): Good - Breakfast not supplied
- Pamela (3/5): Not worth the word 'Charming' - Location was good The house is old but not in good condition. Hole in one wall, broken appliances, backyard not safe. Draughty and a bit dirty.
- Tanya (8/5): it was great as we had the whole house and could come and go as we pleased - great beds, free wifi, beds were cosy, had a washing machine, didn’t have to share with others, it was quiet the ramp out the back was a bit treacherous and was disappointed the gas stove/oven wasn’t working but the hot plates and mini oven did the job just fine.
