Guest Reviews
- melika (9/5): Beautiful stay - The interior design
- Stacey (10/5): - Truly beautuful heritage home on the main strip of Tenterfielf. Steeped in history and full of interesting reflections of yesteryear. Comfortable, plush, warm.
- Coralie (8/5): Lovely stay. I’ll be back!! - Beautifully renovated property. Comfortable and super gorgeous. Very convenient location big backyard with plenty of room for a gatho and good Bbq facilities. The bathroom is still being renovated but thats nothing really. It’s still functional.
- Richard (9/5): Lovely stay in charming cottage - Mill cottage is a charming place to stay. It is thoughtfully decorated with great attention to detail. The beds are really comfortable which is always a bonus. Loved the delightful kitchen and cooked dinner there each night of our stay. Would happily stay here again. Nothing not to like
- Phil (7/5): - Good Cleaner and gardener were hovering at 9.45 ( 8.45 qld)
Felt rushed 😴
- Pam (10/5): - Loved the location, decor, and the outside areas and the day bed.... but also a great location to the shops. Perfect getaway! Thanks so much.
- Michaela (8/5): -
- Jacoba (9/5): Fantastisch! - Het was een heel schattig huis met een grote tuin. Heel comfortabel omdat het ruim was. Alles ruim, de living, de keuken, de douche, de wc, de slaapkamers. Goede bedden!
- Todd (10/5): Quintessential country cottage with whimsical and stylish curation. - Stylish and beautifully curated. Plenty of space and all appliances and needs met. Couldn’t even find time for the cute firepit area and outdoor eating area.
Outdoor shower and bath was a great experience. Actually better than the internal shower. Internal shower was a bit touchy for temperature control and drainage was not great.
- Susan (10/5): - Location and decor
- Sarah (10/5): Great stopover - Lovely cottage, close to town, beautifully styled with a great breakfast. Also dog friendly as a bonus! Nothing
- Chloe (9/5): - Cutest property
- Jessica (10/5): Cosy home filled with lots of character and everything needed in great location - Loved the character and feel to the home. It has everything needed for guests and the yard with the fire pit and seated pergola is a bonus. The location is perfect for walking along the main street of Tenterfield and grabbing a coffee/dinner. There isn't much not to like :)
- Mark (9/5): Went back in time staying at the cottage - The cottage setting was similar to what it was like back in the days. The hot water for the shower ran out.
- Joanne (10/5): - Great location, cosy, loved it Would have liked a bath
- Annette (8/5): Excellent - Saucepans need replacing with stainless stell
- Ezilna (9/5): -

- andrew (10/5): Perfect place to relax and dog friendly is a bonus. - Cozy with great touches and walk into town for dinner. Shower screen door so didn't throw water everywhere when showering.
- van der Lee (8/5): - Close to town, walking distance to cafés etc Could only cook effectively on one burner
- Coral (9/5): -
- Shane (10/5): -
- Helen (9/5): Lovely, quirky cottage - Loved the cosy feel of the cottage and all the old memorabilia. It was the perfect size for my family of 3 and our dog enjoyed running around the backyard. Traffic noise was noticeable at times and the town clock chiming was loud but these were only a negative in regards to trying to get our daughter to sleep.
- Roland (10/5): -
- Margaret (10/5): Beautiful cottage in a great location - Beautiful cottage tastefully and thoughtfully restored. Lots of special touches by the owner. A great location and excellent facilities. Highly recommend
- Raymond (9/5): -
- Perri (9/5): Comfortable stay in a beautiful cottage - Really nice cottage, we only stayed one night but it is well set up for longer stays (next time!). Home away from home, short walk to shops and restaurants. interesting historical/retro interior. Wish I brought my earbuds , could hear the traffic in the night time.
- peter (8/5): the cottage is furnished tastefully, very quiet and spacious, will bring our small dog next time as -
- corey (10/5): Staying here really was a highlight our trip - Loved the character, the layout, how it was styled everywhere you looked there was something new to discover
- Lorraine (9/5): - Very clean and homey. Decor was really nice and quirky even had a turn table.
Close to everything. Definitely stay there again Liked everything
- Gabrielle (9/5): Always fun and relaxing - Location in centre town / breakfast provided/ plus cooking extras/ deck of kitchen/ heating cooling/ beds comfy A bit unnerved by noises at nite. In alleyway think someone was going thru bins
- Di (9/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Highly recommended - Absolutely everything! Mills Cottage is well worth it. The photos are exactly what the cottage looks like both inside and out. Main street is a very short walk, and Coles is very close as well. Very private. We did regret booking 2 nights only. Next time will be much longer. Everything has been thought out, and the decor was amazing. I loved listening to John Denver on the record player. Nothing at all.
- black (7/5): We'd stay again, for sure. Great for 2 couples. - Good location right in town.
Good kitchen.
Outdoor fire place (though not used). Shower not great. Needs a revamp.
- Donna (9/5): Wonderful comfortable character cottage in desirable central location, would certainly stay there again. - Thoughtful decor, beautiful backyard ,garden and outdoor seating areas, well equipped kitchen. Electric blankets a welcome addition. Good car accommodation.
Very handy location, cosy main bedroom. The shower was a minor inconvenience with some water spraying onto the floor, necessitating squeegeeing after use.

- KeYates (10/5): Loved it, best dog friendly cottage we have stayed at. - Mill Cottage was so cosy and had everything we needed. It was ideally located for us, walked to everything. Parks were nearby so we were able to take Eddie (our dog) for a variety of walks. Garden was completely fenced and secure so we were able to relax while Eddie played, there were no sneaky places to escape or he would have found them.
Cafes & bakery so close by.
Loved the fire and wish we had stayed another night or 2.
- Sasha (9/5): Cute & cozy - Great central location, gorgeous house with lots of character and quirky retro/vintage style. Lovely simple breakfast items supplied which did the trick before a long day of hiking. Loved the facilities and everything about the cottage including indoor fireplace, outdoor hot tub/shower, and big backyard with fire pit and bbq area. Wish we could've stayed longer just to enjoy the place itself more! The shower was a bit funny to find and hold the right temperature water, but that was the only thing, other than that everything was amazing and we couldn't have asked for better.
- Mandy and Mike (8/5): - Decor and location
- Leanne (10/5): So worth a stay. Have already re booked for a longer stay next time. - What isn’t there to like. The location is fantastic, the property have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and special and the way the cottage has been done up is gorgeous. We loved every thing there at the cottage there was nothing to dislike .
- Andrik (10/5): Nostalgic, warm and cosy - Great styling and atmosphere for a country getaway It was actually reminiscent of olden days showering in freezing temperatures!
- Alicia (10/5): Will never stay in a hotel again. This home was perfect - The property was absolutely lovely
The design is beautiful and facilities had everything we needed
In the centre and seconds walk to centre of town but still was quiet and felt like a haven
And perfect for our small dog who loved it Nothing
- Cheryl (9/5): places like this make you want to return! - comfortable & loved - lots of. T L C has gone into making this a wonderful stay.
- matthew (10/5): -
- Ann (8/5): Very good -
- Paula (10/5): Stay for a few days here, as your base and explore the surrounding National Parks. - Breakfast was such a wonderful surprise. Everything was there, that one could want. So very kind & thoughtful.
- Robert (8/5): Rustic charm, oodles or space and great value. - Rustic charm, oodles or space and great value especially given the Cottage is 2 Bedrooms! Walk to everything in Tenterfield central.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful cottage!!! It's just lovely and well-appointed, especially when -3 at night. Super cosy! Electric blankets, a hit, fire, split system, heated the house perfectly 👌 👍. Thank you. Absolutely nothing! It's a truly unique cottage, tasteful, and authentic
- Peter (10/5): Very comfortable and relaxing and enjoyable. - Very generous variety of food stuffs provided and the old world country charm of the house was very pleasing. Close proximity to the main street was great as well as to the local walks along the town stream. Nothing that we could identify.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (8/5): Like staying in a piece of history with the comforts of today - It was super cute and beautifully appointed, with lots of little touches that made you feel welcome and taken care of. Really tasteful decor. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need for self catering. The whole experience felt well thought out and guest- centric. It’s a bit cold and noisy. I’d stay again though happily.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Menelaws (10/5): Exceptional - Loved having the fire place being that we were from Brisbane and being the start of winter. Price was great. Just delighted with all the homely touches & how the cottage is decorated, wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely on the wish list for a longer stay in the future 💗
- Kylie (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful eclectic cottage. Homely and inviting. Very much loved the fireplace and getting cozy. So close to town and park.
- Christine (9/5): A home away from home. - Location. The decor of the cottage. Comfort, cleanliness, atmosphere and all our needs were catered for, including breakfast. Would recommend a stay at Mill Cottage for the experience of yesteryear and memories.
- Jasmine (1/5): NOT 2 bathrooms - Large bedrooms, well equipped kitchen This property does NOT have 2 bathrooms as listed. The second “bathroom” is an outdoor shower. The indoor bathroom is also not up to standard and is a long way from the bedrooms. We had to find, and pay, for alternative accommodation.
- Louise (9/5): Excellent night was had by all!! - The charm of the cottage is endearing. Firepit and BBQ were put to use, although we were not aware that the outside lights were on a timer.
- Russell (9/5): Superb -
- Bridgette (9/5): Central location, clean and cute cottage. -
- Rowan (9/5): Great location with character and comfort - Location and character Nothing
- Randall (7/5): Good place, especially for a longer stay, if character is more important than functionality. - Good location. Funky decoration. Clean. Nicely renovated kitchen. Comfortable beds. Good sized TV. The outdoor area would be great if staying for a long enough time to use it. Nicely maintained grounds. Nicely decorated, but still an old cottage showing its age. The bathroom needs some serious renovation especially if two couples are staying. The shower curtain has been removed to create the impression of a walk-in shower but the area is too small so the floor just gets wet - there is no exhaust fan so the room steams up making the mirror unusable - there is another mirror in the laundry but that is not an option if someone is using the toilet which is also in the laundry - the taps are full of character but hard to use. The bedrooms have character switches and power outlets but most people will look for more outlets and separate switching for the bedside lights.
The floor is sloping in most places which is an issue for people with mobility issues, but others less challenged might see that as also adding character.
- Blair (10/5): Cosy, warm and welcoming, we’ll be back. - A beautiful, cosy and welcoming place to stay. Had a lovely homely feel and everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. We wished we had more than one night. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a great spot to stay in Tenterfield. 10/10! Nothing, everything was lovely.
- Janice (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Perfect overnight or longer stay! - We had a 1 night stay travelling through and wished we could have stayed longer. Not only is the location unbeatable, it’s beautifully furnished and styled with old world charm and comfort in mind. We were struck by the high attention of detail in pretty much everything. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed by way of condiments to cook up a meal after a quick stroll to Coles. Thanks for having us and the breakfast items (eggs, bread, butter, spreads, cereal, etc) which were not expected but greatly appreciated! Highly recommended. Nothing.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (9/5): Fabulous - Fabulous historic cottage with so much character and charm! Right in the centre of town, an easy walk to everything. The house had everything we needed, the beds were comfy. Will definitely visit again Shower area got very wet, but not really a problem
- Tony (7/5): Quaint and enjoyable - Nice idea for the breakfast. Nothing you can do about it but a bit nisy
- Debra (10/5): We enjoyed the cottages location and comfortable furnishings - Very pretty and well styled Fan in main bedroom not working
Lots of active spiders
- Katrina (10/5): A quaint cottage in a great location in Tenterfield. - The cottage was very quaint & charming.
The breakfast available was a lovely addition.
The cottage was walking distance to all Tenterfield shops.
- Helen (10/5): Cosy warm cottage - Everything All great
- Helen (10/5): Cosy, well positioned. - Great location. The home felt so relaxing. Beautifully decorated. Everything was fantastic
- Katrina (10/5): Pet friendly property with enclosed yard, off street undercover parking and lovely decor - Amazing location, great atmosphere and fantastic staff.
- Jane (9/5): Superb -
- Lorraine (10/5): So relaxing and interesting to just see it all. - Absolutely everything it was perfect just so beautiful in every way! The way the house was done up in the old and new ideas. Just like it used to be.
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Donna (8/5): Gorgeous cottage with everything you need! - Mill Cottage was perfect for our two day stay. The cottage was right in town with everything you needed, we even had a BBQ while listening to old records. A small breakfast kit was provided which made the first morning easy.
Beds were very comfortable and all linen necessary for the time we were there and a few extras.
Space for couples and for being together - so easy! Can’t think of anything!
- Emily (10/5): My idyllic home away from home. - Everything! Nothing.
- Harkin (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): Superb - A gorgeous cottage.
We loved the location, it is right in town, close to shops and cafes
The beds were comfy and the decor was very cool.
- Jo (4/5): Final time i Air bnb it...back to motels for me. Cannot see the value in them at all. - Would have been better off going to coles next door and buying quality ingredients. Tomatoes were cheap and nasty, as was the fruit toast. No normal bread supplied to have with eggs and tomatoes. The linen was fresh and clean, but the whole house could do with a decent spring clean. I liked the location and facilities, however i cant see the value of this over a nice motel room with kitchenette. Aircon in bedroom would be good. It was a hot night and even with the fan on (noisy) we sweltered... and thats a statement considering we come from Grafton! Windows were painted shut so that both lazy and unhelpful. I didnt like that everything was all cheapest on offer. And...cockroaches.
- Rachelle (9/5): Superb -
- Nina (7/5): We mostly enjoyed our stay. - Close to town centre. Nicely appointed. Inconsistent hot water supply.
No gas supplied for BBQ.
No firewood supplied.
- Schulz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Meridith (9/5): The house has been decorated authentically and is a comfortable place to stay. - A great location. Lovely old house. Good heating.
- Fiona (9/5): Superb - Great location, very homely and quaint. Beautifully decorated,. Fantastic hosts. Highly.rwcommend, just wish stay longer. Na
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anton (8/5): Very interesting cottage in a great location -
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional - House was very cosy and exceptionally well presented. Thank you.
- Rachel (4/5): Definitely an old cottage - needs a bit of TLC - Super location for electric vehicle with charge station just around corner. Very walkable to the local shops (highly recommend Barra Jacks for amazing fish and chips). Good access to nice walking path along Tenterfield Creek. Appreciated being able to have our dog stay, and the well-fenced back yard. Nice wood fire with kindling, wood and fire-starters provided, we really enjoyed that. The linen and towels were clean. The owner’s communication was excellent including to help my coffee obsession by making sure I knew which pods the machine took so I could be happy (and also some were provided which was lovely). Albeit an original historic cottage, it really does need some updating and maintenance - e.g. many lights don’t work, the bathroom is extremely old and likely impossible to clean at this age so feels very dirty, water goes everywhere when you shower, the glass top on the kitchen bench is cracked. Having said that, I think also the cleaning could be much better - I wiped down a lot of grime on the kitchen benches e.g. in the corners to get it feeling clean to prepare food on, and it was not well vacuumed and very dusty (e.g. dog ball went under couch and came back with a lot extra). The whole cottage is crammed with knick-knacks which for us also made it feel cluttered and grimier than it likely even was. We tidied up and moved things around to make it feel more harmonious and calm.
It was SO noisy. It’s not too far from a fairly well-used highway, and because the home is old (no double-glazing or well-sealed windows) that was pretty noisy itself overnight. But the biggest noise was that the home sits alongside an alley that runs down to shops, and is used by all manner of service vehicles who drive in, park, unload, slam doors, back up with truck reversing beeps etc (including at 5am). Even the rubbish truck turned around in that alley!
Again made hard by the age of the cottage, but it was hella cold. It took us a LOT to heat it up, made trickier by drafts and poor seals.
Overall, we were pretty disappointed with the condition of some of the essentials, hence wanting to write this review.
- Ross (6/5): Pleasant -
- Linda (10/5): A beautiful trip into an era past. Beautifully and thoughtfully styled. So close to the town center of Tenterfield and t - Everything. Nothing
- Kath (10/5): Loved the cottage, very cosy and right in the middle of town, a wonderful get away. - Loved the cottage, very cosy and right in the middle of town, a wonderful get away.
- Rmhealey (8/5): Slice of history - All the homely features were very welcome. The styling was quirky. The space is warm and welcoming. The bread and butter, eggs and tomatoes for breakfast was tasty. Easy walk to shopping. Beautiful garden. Condiments in the fridge. The bathroom is at the rear of the house (bedrooms at the front), with the toilet in the laundry. Both were cold spaces, with steps and low doorways. Lots of trip hazards. Bedrooms did not have bedside tables. The old suitcases offer little other than ambience. Furniture in dining room is unstable.
- Shashi (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the property and old world charm setting. Enjoyed the fire place. Location is perfect close to restaurants. Kitchen is well equipped. Loved that there were couple of games provided in the lounge room. We went in winter so was a bit chilly in the toilet. A bit uncomfortable but no worries.
