Guest Reviews
- Teresa (10/5): - Visiting White Cliffs is for those who enjoy outback adventures. Fossickers Den has a wonderful set up that would suit a family or a couple. Beautiful big kitchen, well appointed, great dugout home. Loved the cushioned flooring too. A great dugout spot for experience White Cliff & doing a little fossicking.
Fossickers Den looked after us wonderfully, and would come back again Not enough time there
- Claire (9/5): Unique holiday experience - Unique opportunity to stay in a dug out house, with the bonus of a full kitchen and breakfast supplies. The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise. Could have been cleaner, but we appreciate this is the outback.
- Paul (8/5): We throughly enjoyed our stay and would do a return visit sometime in the future. - A very unique experience. It is in a great location and we felt very comfortable with the facilities. While White Cliffs is in the outback and a dry and dusty environment. Dust was the only problem of note.

Also the bacon, eggs, milk and bread were a great convenience for us when getting in later during the day. The beds were very comfortable, the kids also loved playing with the board games. Can’t recommend this place enough, such a wonderful place to stay

- Lionel (9/5): A fantastic underground experience. - Excellent bacon and eggs for breakfast and a very nice welcome pack was provided. A wonderful underground stay for 3 nights. Very comfortable. A little bit dusty but that is really the reality of being in the outback. No big problem though.

- Brendan (4/5): Experience - Being in White Cliffs during summer was something I wanted to do. The breakfast provided was very generous. The bathroom was very slippery, they said to use wooden mat in the shower - no wooden mat was available. Bedroom door had beaten sun all day, place was hot and stuffy. Didn’t really feel like you were underground.
- Dong (9/5): Superb - It was a lovely location and the neighbours were very nice and helpful such as helping us find the location of the dugout. The provided breakfast was such a thoughtful idea. Our family had a wonderful and comfortable time staying at this location :)
- Riley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristina (8/5): Very good - Something different, very cool
Lots of space for families
- Paul (10/5): best place in white cliffs - so much better than the underground motel spacious and comfortable nothing
- Ali (9/5): Amazing experience - Staying in a dugout was such a great experience.
The hosts were amazing as when we travelled there was a blackout, but they come over with a generator and some sensor lights!
- Carmen (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast and location were very good. The dugout itself was great. The cleanliness in the kitchen was very disappointing, especially crockery and cooking utensils. The cupboards need a good spring clean.
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Food and drinks supplied was a bonus.
A unique place to stay. Can now tick this off the bucket list. Nothing not to like.
- Fernsie (8/5): A Unique Experience. - Staying in this dugout was a unique experience for us. We were impressed with how large the area within the dugout was and the quality of the beds and linen. The kitchen area was really large and modern. The breakfast provided was outstanding. I know we were in a dugout but there was no attention paid to dusting of the furniture or removing cobwebs from the walls.
The outside area where a BBQ and seating was provided for guests was really dirty. The kitchen drawers were full of crap - it appeared that the owners had moved out so we could move in.
- Michael (8/5): Great once we overcame the hurdle of entering - The bread and the supply of jam etc was great Booking .com did not supply the code to open the box where the key was kept then we had to ask a neighbour to assist us as we couldn’t enter with the keys and couldn’t get in contact with the owner
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Sara (8/5): Very good - Unique underground living.
- Leona (10/5): We loved our stay at Fossickers Den in White Cliffs. - We loved our stay at Fossickers Den, very unique underground house, beds so comfy, host very obliging, generous welcome pack, including cooked breakfast provisions. Fossickers Den short walk to Hotel for dinner and local shop, Highly reccommend if you stay in White Cliffs. Nothing
- Sharif (10/5): It was wonderful. - This has been a unique experience for us as it was first time for us living in a dug out!!! The host provided welcome package with wine and some other snacks. The fridge had ample stuffs for breakfast. The room and toilets were clean.
- Russell (7/5): GOOD -
- Geoff (8/5): Very good -
- Sharyn (9/5): Superb - It was the experience I was after. Out the front door up the stone stairs and the opal fields where right there. It's very easy to get opal fever. Nothing everyone was very friendly a great outback adventure
- Phil (10/5): An absolutely unique experience with all the modern comforts. - The unique nature of the dugout accomodation.
- Daniel (7/5): A very short stay for us, however was comfortable, quiet. A pretty cool underground experience. Generous welcoming gift - Unique, quiet, comfortable. The bathroom flooded due to plumbing issue.
- Pamela (10/5): Fabulous quirky place, such a fun time - V cool place in an underground house we were v excited and wished we’d come with our kids when they were little Nothing
- Karen (6/5): Lovely accomodation. - Art, decor, comfortable beds Bathroom basin

- Anthony (9/5): Superb -
- Martii69 (10/5): Exceptional - Inside was so cool, compared to the extreme heat outside. It was the first time we'd ever stayed in an underground accommodation and it was great.
- Monika (8/5): Our family enjoyed a fun and well equipped 2 night stay in the dug out ‘cave’ - The novelty of the dug out was fantastic with the kids. Included breakfast and home comforts- linen, laundry, kitchen essentials was very appreciated. A great stay! Could do with a deep clean for dust and rugs etc.
- Sharni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -

SO great!!@ Needed a few Senior upgrades in the bathroom
- Annie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simone (10/5): Absolutely awesome! Great accommodation with lovely little thoughtful touches. - Breakfast was COMPLETELY catered for! Bacon, bread, cereals (that also catered for allergies)! Everything was available for use - in the pantry and freezer! An AMAZING little gift basket with wine, chips & biscuits! Bedrooms at either end of the house. Great communication from the host, too. Friendly little town - not a destination but an experience…definitely glad we went there. Not much, to be honest!
- John (8/5): Comfortable and unique. -
- Ben (8/5): Excellent stay in an active and fascinationg mining town. - What a wonderful place! Was all that I hoped for and a little more. This is a whole house with all the amenities. It's not perfect like a modern fresh built house - it was once an active mine after all. It's perfect for a family however, and we had loads of room to spread out and be comfortable. Though free internet is provided, the service is pretty sketchy. Only Telstra service the area, so be mindful if you're relying on internet.
- Gregory (10/5): Do it - Everything Nothing
- Lew (9/5): Superb -
- Evan (10/5): Great stay. - We flew in and our hosts let us use one of their vehicles. Wherever we went, the locals waved at us, assuming we were if fact our hosts. The vehicle was a bit quirky, which added to our fun. We can’t actually think of anything we would change. Perhaps more glow in the dark stickers on some of the power points, as the positioning of them was not always intuitive. However, finding the light switches was part of the fun.
- Shannon (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was fine (bacon and eggs). However, there was no milk. Milk for tea/coffee would have been appreciated. Spider webs all over insides of windows needs attention.
- Stephanie (10/5): I would stay here again - The welcome pack was cute and the house was very unique to us The front entrance was a mess
- Justine (7/5): Maybe with a dust and good clean and some heating and better lighting, I’d give it a better rating. - White Cliffs rocks! it’s such a step out of the norm. This property is in a slight hill, so you get a sunrise and bird action. I enjoyed the rustic chairs outside and potential for a brazier/fire pit.
The kitchen is well stocked. I wanted to love it. I wanted my kids to love it.. but we were actually really cold. It was mid winter and we just couldn’t get warm. Also the bedding felt unclean. (God I wish there was an option not to publish that but still let them know). I imagine trying to clean sheets out there is difficult. Huge spider webs, especially in toilet. Internet and TV pretty much non existent, so take a book.
I reckon some board games or some cards or books about the place would’ve been a nice touch.
- Helen (8/5): Great place to stay in very interesting town. I would recommend this place. - Wonderful breakfast. generous serves of bacon and eggs and many other condiments available. Some confusion with getting into the house. I did not receive the code from Booking, com early enough. Once we arrived we had no reception so had to approach a neighbour who called the owner. Booking.com should send it earlier.
- Rick (10/5): Exceptional - We enjoyed our stay in the underground house.
Peaceful to relax and sleep
Nice outdoor area to enjoy the scenery
Will be back
Loved it😁
- Belinda (10/5): Enjoyed the 1 night stay in the unique accommodation, Hayley was a great host 🙂 - Location great & breakfast etc provided in fridge was appreciated
- Margaret (9/5): Great place to stay in White Cliffs and with small improvements could be even better - quaint, good kitchen, good tv options, comfy. kitchen pantry with essentials was great. No coffee machine despite pictured on line. Shower poor as water pressure low and no provision for. soap
- Almaaz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Almaaz (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (8/5): lovely overnight stay, something completely different - quirky underground home, a unique experience that I would recommend to anyone the lounges need replacing
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Voitek.k (10/5): Exceptional - Very original accommodation and spaciousness of the place.
- Eric (8/5): Very good -
- Rhyll (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (7/5): Good - Nice place but a little worn. Great breakfast and welcome package. Very authentic dugout.
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (8/5): Very good - Very cosy and homelike stay
- Jones (9/5): Superb -
- Cristal (9/5): Superb -
- Monique (10/5): we had such a great time in White Cliffs. Hayley was a great host and the property was fun to stay in with magical subse - we loved that it was a dugout - something different to stay in
- Brian (6/5): Pleasant - The experience was good. Great views out on top. Roomy and suits a family more than a couple
You have to appreciate how hard it would be to build and maintain a property like this. The outback is unforgiving . Outside furniture and bar b q were very dirty and could not be used. Remembering where we were, we accepted the insects in most of the cupboards and dishes. The frog in the toilet was a surprise. Could be said to be a little tired. But then it is the Outback
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Bert (8/5): Very good -
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional - The atmosphere and the quietness
- Alwyn (9/5): Thoroughly comfortable and enjoyable base from which to experience White Cliffs. - Breakfast and other supplies were excellent and the kitchen was very well equipped, making for a very comfortable stay. 1. A stick vac was available and very handy for indoors, but I would have liked a broom for the concrete area outside.
2. We would have liked to have met the owner - to pass on our congratulations!
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Dvara (9/5): Superb -
- Janine (9/5): Superb - quirky authentic accommodation, would be great for a large group/family
- Simone (9/5): A great experience when visiting White Cliffs! - It was a treat and a highlight to stay at Fossickers. It has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay in White Cliffs. Hayley had left a great breakfast for us to enjoy the morning after our arrival. There are no obvious cons with the property.
- Geoff (10/5): A fabulous experience in a true outback town. Exceptional hospitality. - Hayley’s welcoming and relaxed approach as a host is simply outstanding. The dugout accommodation is brilliant. Everything we needed for a “big country breakfast” was left ready for us to cook on the big gas cooktop and enjoy at the huge timber bench. I would recommend every traveller to make an overnight stop here.
