Guest Reviews
- Shirley (7/5): Very quaint and 60-70 inside but comfortable - The property was quite with lots of birds and kangaroos right on the lake. Bed very comfortable and slept like a log. Love the granola made by our very friendly host Kirsten. No fish in the lake and lots of mozzies
- Kathy (8/5): Beautiful relaxing getaway by the water. Swans, koalas & kangaroos & birds were a real bonus - Great breakfast. Loved the bread & healthy teas & eggs Bathroom small & downstairs ( bedroom upstairs).
- Andrew (9/5): - Beautiful location, lots of wildlife Cottage fairly small, might not suit some people;
- Andree (9/5): Á refreshing island experience in a calm setting with gorgeous native birds and other animals - Superb location which far exceeded my expectations and beautiful hand made/home grown goods for breakfast
- Max (10/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): Wonderful place to stay for walking the koala trail. - Beautiful location. Cute little cottage. Wonderful fresh bread and granola awaited us for breakfast. Kitchen is good, beds are comfortable and it is very quiet. Loved the parrots visiting the feeder on the patio. Went for a beautiful sunrise kayak.
- qin (8/5): -
- David (9/5): - Location and the owners welcome.
- Wade (10/5): -
- Therese (6/5): The finesse wasn’t thought of - Position Accommodation facilities
- MC (8/5): Very good - Location, style and friendly Small bathroom
- Andrew (9/5): - Location was superb right on the water and Raymond Island is an iconic part of Paynesville
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Agnes (10/5): Nice Nature Retreat - location super, wildlife, lake, swimming, kayaking, biking, walking, Koala Trail, Ferry to Paynesville, quiet and nice, Garden. Breakfast Bread, Jam, Granola, Butter, Fruits, milk, very much selfmade, was really good. bird food provided, lovely. Kirsten was helpful and asked several times, if we need anything. please note bathroom is small, bedrooms are upstairs and stairs are steep. enough space, though.
- Sara (9/5): Relaxing, easy to access but slightly secret getaway location with a friendly host! - Gorgeous and tranquil surrounded by local wildlife and located on a lovely, clean and quiet part of the lake. The garden view room was small for a family of 4. Everything else was fantastic!
- Ray (9/5): Swan Cove is a delightful lakeside destination. Quiet and peaceful with the lake at your doorstep. - Swan Cove is an idyllic location. We stayed in the Beach Cottage overlooking the lake. Beautiful view. The upstairs bedrooms are tastefully decorated and the bed was comfy. The downstairs kitchen is well equipped with new appliances. The lounge area was comfortable with a smart TV, although the furniture was a little dated. The downstairs bathroom was very small and cramped. The lake was only 50 metres away and there were 3 double and 3 single kayaks for guests use. There were also bicycles for guest use, and a lovely outside gazebo, barbecue area, and chairs at the lakeside. The lake is shallow and safe for swimming. There is a short jetty a few hundred metres away for any fishermen. It is an 8 minute drive and 2-minute ferry ride to the Painesville IGA, coffee shops, and restaurants. Not a criticism, but the cottage would not suit physically impaired guests...it has a couple of steps and a steep, narrow staircase to the bedrooms. The cottage was not ready until 1 1/2 hours after check-in time. The breakfast was odd. Tea and coffee were supplied, but for the whole 4 day stay there was one tray with a loaf of sourdough bread, and three tomatoes, a pot of tangelo marmalade, some meusli(?), dried oranges, dried limes, fennel and lemon verbena. No milk, butter, or eggs (the chooks weren't laying!). I felt that the photos on booking.com did not fully explain the arrangement of the two cottages and their relationship with the owner's part of the house. A floor plan may have helped.
- Dai (10/5): -
- Salini (9/5): Memorable and would love to revisit. - Amazing couple of days soaking in the beauty of nature at Swancove. This is a must stay with gracious hosts serving scrumptious homemade breakfast. 5 stars!
- Sharon (9/5): Host Kristen and Martin are excellent hosts. Kristen prepared beautiful bread and cakes for us. - The country set up was a great experience for city folks like us. We are amazed by the beauty of the cottages we had. It was very beautiful & clean.
- Debbie (9/5): Kirsten is a great host, welcoming and approachable. It is quirky and compact. - Secluded Location, the serenity, peacefulness and no near neighbours. Owner is onsite, but not intrusive in any way. Felt like we had the place to ourselves. There are mosquitoes so be prepared
- Rolf (9/5): - Herausragende Lage mitten in der Wildnis. Papageien springen um und an einem herum. Morgens und abends grasen die Kängurus im Garten. Exotische Vögel wohin man schaut.
- Geoff (10/5): Very enjoyable and would recommend it to everyone - I loved it cause it was right on the beach The property was great because it is secluded and very private
- Alex (10/5): Mental detox - Mental detox. You don't regret about yesterday as there wasn't one. You don't worry about tomorrow as it doesn't exist.
First you'll find yourself in the middle of nowhere. Then soon.. you feel like you're touching the roots of what our existence should be at the bare minimum..
Water. Soft water from 200 metres below. In the tap. It tastes! And so great to your body, leave your conditioner at home
Kirsten is beautiful host. Kirsten is beautiful person. And woman. Latest mosquitoes in Australia
- Jeannine (8/5): A Welcome Christmas Break - Beautiful location
Surrounded by countryside and wildlife
Loved the sourdough but would have liked a bigger loaf We are not big people and the bathroom is tiny.
The seating area was not very inviting so we spent most of our time in the summerhouse.
It’s a little noisy when others are in the adjoining property.
- Silvar (10/5): Hidden in the nature, in the island and surrounded by the plants and animals, and lovely hostess on the top 🥰 - Nature, hostess, animals
- Sasha (10/5): Perfect natures healing get away. Wish we could have stayed longer. - So peaceful, right beside the water and surrounded by bush and wildlife. Wonderful host couldn’t do enough for us. Cute and clean cottage with all we needed. Nothing, except the mozzies but repellant was supplied.
Rien
- Leonie (10/5): - This was our second stay, love all the wildlife in the front yard, private waterfront with the use of kayaks and the homemade breakfast tray We didn't stay long enough
- Tzu yun (10/5): - Swan cove is such a beautiful place, sit in the end of island surrounded by the beautiful trees and animals, we had such relaxing time by just sit in front of beach with the fire pit, do nothing just enjoy the nature, amazed by how lucky we are to enjoy such unique and beautiful island.
Kirsten and Martin are wonderful host, during our visiting, the ferry was on the outage, they pick us up and drop us off to make our trip more easy, Kirsten gave a lot of information about the island and animal, plus, the homemade granola, sourdough, marmalade, tea was delicious.
10 out of 10 place to stay.
- Richard (10/5): A magical location with very generous hosts - Amazing location with wildlife all around you. Nothing
- Valeriy (10/5): - Ein echtes Paradies!
- Ann (9/5): Beautiful location and wonderful hosts - Location was great, so close to the water and kangaroos coming every night, beautiful Unfortunately this property was not suitable for me as I have Parkinson's Disease so have severe mobility problems so the small bathroom and the stairs were a great challenge for me, the hosts are beautiful people who did all the could to make our stay as easy as possible given the challenges I present.
- Julie (9/5): - Its the perfect spot to relax and connect with nature. Stunning water views from the property. Kangaroos wandering by morning and afternoon. The accomodation was spotless, comfortable and had everything. Kirsten and Marten were very welcoming and friendly hosts. She makes the best granola. A true gem and I hope to be back soon.
- Melissa (10/5): Wonderful stay tucked away in a natural retreat! - Absolutely stunning location, we loved the beach, the wildlife, the serenity, and the history of the buildings. We enjoyed feeding the beautiful native birds, kayaking in the morning, and toasting marshmallows over the fire. Kirsten and Martin are wonderful hosts - so friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. We especially loved the homemade treats! The living area isn’t super comfy, and the bathroom is small and difficult to negotiate (and downstairs) - a product of when it was built but important to note!
- Himadri (10/5): It was lovely. The view from the room was picturesque. Waking up to a gorgeous sunrise and swans - Loved the Home made sourdough bread and granola
- Dave Lole (9/5): -
- Guo (10/5): Definitely worth a second visit in the near future - The place, the animals and birds come to the yard, and the lake view in the backyard, the natural food platter Kristen prepared for us plus the fire pit Martin lit for us in the second night, everything was wonderful. Our family was very happy with what we had during our stay. We have got more than what we expected. Many thanks, Kristen and Martin. None
- Ekaterina (9/5): - A truly family-style stay with the most wonderful and welcoming hosts. The place feels very cozy and warm, perfect for a one-night stop in the middle of the forest, with the added bonus of direct access to a beautiful lake. It felt like a little home away from home.
- Vivek (10/5): Relaxing and comfortable - Location, cottage, environment, peace, tranquility, birds, nature, home cooked bread, granola and all, very nice hosts "Kirsten & Martin"!
Sonst alles gut!
- Miao Yu (10/5): Cute and peaceful stay on Raymond Island - Great hospitality, the ocean front location, and the lovely birds🥰
Thank you for hosting us🙏
- Damian (10/5): Awesome place to unwind and recharge. - Loved the cottage and atmosphere. Enjoyed kayaking and the breakfast was sensational. Our hosts were amazing and we loved the fire pits. A great place to relax. Nothing - all good
- Wenchao (10/5): Kristen and Christine are very gentle and friendly. They welcome us a little bit late on the first night but Kirsten sho - Very clean and well maintained house. Beautiful out looking and lovely interior decorations. Plus they provide BBQ grill!
Kangaroos are in the garden early in the morning, very lovely. Birds come for their breakfast and not afraid of human. Koala trails are not far if you are driving. And such a wonderful place!
- Eleanor (10/5): Paradise - Absolutely delightful. A gorgeous holiday home, beautifully designed to be charming and unique but comfortable and easy to care for. The house was equipped with all essentials, including birdseed for the many rosellas and galahs that visited the garden. Beautiful grounds with the use of kayaks and bikes. Kirsten and Martin made me completely welcome while giving me my privacy. I felt absolutely at home and free to ramble in this beautiful wild corner of Victoria.
Special mention for the tray full of food, including homemade ruby grapefruit marmalade and eggs from Kirsten's chickens, that was waiting on my arrival. Also the freshly baked baguette that Kirsten brought round on the first evening.
A weekend to remember!
- Jitesh (10/5): - All atrrangement were above our expectations. Nothing to criticize.
Marks 10 on 10 on all
- Brian (10/5): - Our 2 nights at Swan Cove exceeded all expectations. Kristen and Martin were welcoming hosts with a wealth of local knowledge. Thank you for a fantastic stay.
- chenglan (9/5): -
- Javier (10/5): Beautiful and peaceful place, charming German style accomodation. - The location and tranquility of the place, so much wild life around plus the host, Martin, was always there to support if needed. -
- Li (7/5): Good -
- Jenna (10/5): Exceptional - From the moment we hopped on the ferry to arriving at this gorgeous property we new we were in for a relaxing trip. The accommodation is gorgeous and cosy. The owners are the most beautiful kind and caring people you will cone across. They go above and beyond. We are so thankful for their kindness when we had some cars travels upon checking out. Do yourself a favour and visit this little piece of heaven and pack the fishing rods.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - The host was lovely, communication was easy and she made us feel very welcome. She had lots of knowledge about the history of this beautiful house and the area. Attention to detail was outstanding, the welcome tray with fresh home made bread and condiments was really lovely. A cosy quiet property nestled in bushland with abundant wildlife all around. We will be back for sure !
- Sue (7/5): This accommodation did not work for us but the Island is certainly worth a visit - Raymond Island is full of wildlife and we have stayed on the Island and Paynesville many times, we love the area but this accommodation did not suit us for 9 nights, probably 7 to many. The host was nice, outdoor view was good The accommodation downstairs is very small, the bathroom has nice tiles but it is so small and in fact you walk through the shower to get to the toilet, there's no power points in the bathroom and there are no power points near a mirror in whole unit, stairs are very steep and noisy as both sets of stairs from each Unit run back to back. Offered the use of the Laundry when we arrived but the door was always locked. Clean towels were given after the 7th night and that's not hygienic. There is little soundproofing in the bedrooms as the walls between the other Unit and the house are just plaster walls
- Amelia (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was lovely, a delicious homemade selection. Location is perfect for a quiet weekend of fun activities such as kayaking, walking, bike riding, swimming, or relaxing next to the lake. Hosts were incredible friendly and accommodating.
- Briggs (8/5): Would stay again but definetly not with a special needs client - Really enjoyed the bread and muesli mix0 Unfortunately the bathroom was too small to be able to assist our client with his needs
- Caroline (9/5): A very relaxing short break in a beautiful part of Victoria. - The location on the Gippsland Lakes and special building and surroundings were beautiful, and relaxing.
Our hosts were very considerate and generous. We especially enjoyed the home-made preserves. N/A
- Arun (9/5): Superb -
- Yiu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leonie (10/5): Paradise at Swan Cove Manor - My first stay at Swan Cove, a beautiful place right on the water, my host Kirsten went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable as possible, there is too much to mention, an amazing experience we will be back.
- Lisa (10/5): Serenity, restorative, calming - We were privileged to share this special untouched slice of paradise with our lovely host Kirsten. Simplicity being the key ingredient to this wonderous journey through time. With wildlife abounding, you are transported to another era where mind and body slow down ready to encompass the joy of a morning sunrise over the lake together with the sounds of birds and native animals living in harmony with the residents of the Island. The delightfully quaint accommodation, including all the necessities of a fully functional kitchen together with bathroom requirements, provided everything you would need for a short stay. Sourdough bread, homemade crackers, homemade granola, herbals teas, milk and butter gave you a great start to your day, ready to explore the spacious property and beyond. Nothing negative to say about this charming property.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional - Location embedded in nature, peace and quiet, cleanliness, breakfast basket on first day and hosts perfect balance of being available without being intrusive. Also, that the hosts have not bowed to pressure to update decor (I assume in keeping with sustainability/valuing nature ethos), while providing a very comfortable stay. Loved the wildlife, kayaks and cycling to and from Paynesville for groceries/meals out. Nothing. Would love to return
- Cherrie (9/5): Beautiful ,peacefulplace to stay and see many koalas - Generous breakfast provided by the hosts .Homemade bread ,fresh eggs homemade jam and granola .All delicious.
Excellent host who showed us around ,made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
Cant wait to return to enjoy the peace and beauty of Swancove. Pillows were extremely hard.
- Livingstone (8/5): Very good - Being so close to the beach. Pillows too thick and hard for me
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb - Wonderful location, lovely outdoor areas. Well appointed kitchen/dining and living spaces and bedroom. All accommodation clean and comfortable. Very small bathroom
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous location, lovely hosts and wonderful homemade breakfast basket. The most wonderful stay, would definitely come back!
- Ken (10/5): Chilled out with Koalas, Rosella's and Cockies. - Fantastic Location.
- Walts (9/5): Just perfect for a relaxing stay surrounded by beautiful nature! - Swan Cove is on Raymond Island and I bet many people don’t even have an idea where this is. It is a very short drive from the jetty after hopping on the ferry from Paynesville. There is just something magical about the property. We love the German-built cottage and how its just steps from the lake and surrounded by beautiful nature. The garden cottage is small and cosy and not having a smart TV is great as it gave us the opportunity to bond as a family with convos, snacks and card games.
My boys enjoyed cycling around the property and we spent a morning kayaking. Highly recommend at least two to three nights stay to just relax, do nothing and enjoy sounds of nature.
We also had the pleasure to meet Kirsten who is so full of life and energy and the love she has for the work she does. What an inspiration! The fact that I’m thinking of a return stay and the noisy resident koala 🐨 who woke me up with its grunting sounds and the mozzies. But hey, everything else makes up for it.
- Jennie (10/5): Exceptional - Location was relaxing and beautiful.
Beds were very comfy. Hosts were amazing.
Wildlife was abundant with the rosellas greeting us from early morning( waiting for their seed) Highly recommended, with plenty to do. Unfortunately the toilet was a little cramped
- Marija (10/5): Brilliant! A truely unique and relaxing place which takes you back to the true meaning of holiday. - Location. Wildlife. Direct acces to your own lake beach! Hosts were lovely. Very responsive. Air conditioning in the upstairs bedrooms.
In garden cottage limited opening only possible on the window. Made sleeping very hot when weather was humid and hot.
- Kien (8/5): Very good -
- Claudia (9/5): Superb - Very pieceful and charming surrounded by a big garden where we have been also lucky to spot some animals (kangoroos)! The host very super friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with homemade products ( especially the bread was one of the best ones we have eaten during our entire trip through Australia). We spent there only 1 night but it would have been a perfect place to relax for a couple of days.
- Angela (8/5): Lovely quiet special place with lovely generous host. - Such a lovely quiet getaway
- Martina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaohua (9/5): Superb - A wonderful place to stay with amazing view and warm host. I would highly recommend this place. any tiny unsatisfied things can be ignored by this lovely cottage.
- Gunter (9/5): EXCELLENT, would love to come back. - Splendid welcoming helpful hosts. All home baked bread + granola and jams and fresh on site eggs were beautiful. Peaceful bushland with lawns running straight onto the sandy foreshore of the Gippsland Lakes. Canoes and bikes to use as req'd. No neighbours to be seen. Hard to leave with tame birds and such peaceful quiet bushland setting for endless walks. The interior was very homey and practical.
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Meljasgav (10/5): Exceptional - The beach front house is a perfect getaway from the hectic city life, the peace and calm rejuvenates you
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful, wterfront property with gorgeous views. We came here for the nature and the quiet. Hosts care very much and are kind and accomodating. Great breakfast bread and home-made granola. Amazing place to come unwind.
- Darryl (7/5): Our overall experience was good but different to what we had expected. - Good breakfast with home made Granola and bread. Property is isolated, but nice natural surrounds. Enjoyed fire on the beach. Unit was very compact with extra-small bathroom on ground level, and 13 stairs up to bedrooms. Had to pay $14 return each time needed to drive off island to visit other sites.
- Carlos (10/5): Nature welcomes you! Cossy, cute and convenient. Excellent attention. - An actual hidden gem. Facilities curated to top. Cossy. cute and convenient. Fantastic cassic house set on a proivate beach surrounded by Kangarros, Swans, Kookaburras and as many kind of parrots you can imagines just at your door. Excellent and dedicated attention from the hosts. Nothing to mention.
- Ausitraveller (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location and a comfy stay. Hosts are really friendly. You could watch Kangaroos hopping around and bright coloured Parrots coming to greet you in the mornings. This is our second time in Swan Cove and we would surely go back.
- Henrikas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Archana (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Amazingly peaceful place full the brim with nature. - The location was amazing… so peaceful.
A very cute European style cottage with a great history.
The main accommodation sits no more than 50 metres from a beach with kangaroos and native birds all around.
Just awesome! Nothing of note not liked.
Review has asked me to write 3 sentences.
So I’d like to write there is nothing I didn’t like.
- Naomi (9/5): Superb -
- Dave (8/5): Great place to see koalas in the natural habitat. - Fantastic location that enabled us to see plenty of koalas, relax and enjoy kayaking around the bay. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the fire pit on the beach in the evenings and the kangaroos on the property at dawn & dusk. Accommodation was a little cramped for four adults.
- Nick (9/5): Very happy with it. - Lovely position. Very relaxed. Could swim in the lake 50m away
Wonderful koala walk on the island. The garden was full of kangaroos in the evening.
Hosts made the garden open to guests. We were unlucky in that we were there in a 38 degree heatwave and A/C struggled.
- Norbert (10/5): Exceptional - A very unique place, we enjoyed very much -
- Fiona (7/5): Relaxing in a little known wildlife lakefront sanctuary - The property is absolute waterfront with beautiful gardens. It is very serene, with some spectacular birdlife. Kirsten was very welcoming and happy to do anything for you. The photos do not really depict the facilities of the cottages. They are much smaller, with a very tiny bathroom, steep internal stairs. The bedrooms were also hot, even though the weather was moderate.
- Jolanta (10/5): Gem location - The location, private beach, away from crowds, picturesque, German style architecture
- Frances (10/5): Exceptional -
- Top_100_reviewer (10/5): Exceptional - This is the second 10 I give in since years.
Fantastic! The location is wonderful (maybe a little bit windy sometimes) and equipped with everything you need. Arriving here there were three kangaroos waiting for us on our parking - no joke.
We got delicious, local grown breakfast with gluten-free options on request. Kirsten is a wonderful host. Thank you so much!
Raymond Island is a paradise...
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yun (10/5): Amazing stay! - Super nice host with comfortable stylish place. Surrounded by natural beauty and cute animals. We really enjoyed our sttay and will visit here again! None
- Jude (9/5): Beautiful location and friendly owner. - Great location, close to the water, can easily spot kangaroos, koalas and wild birds.
The staff and their family were super friendly and nice. The basin in the shower is a directly underneath a shelve and it’s a little hard to use.
- Victoria (9/5): Beautiful, peaceful getaway - Beautiful location, private and peaceful.
The water is just behind the lodgings.
The owners have thought of everything in terms of what is needed within the cottage for comfort and all the necessities.
The breakfast supplied was amazing - home made bread & jam, chicken eggs from the garden, home made Granola. Lovely helpful hosts but also respectfully distant. Nothing to dislike.
- Manei (7/5): Location was lovely although a bit off the beaten track, along 3 kms of gravel road . - The bathroom was minuscule, about 2m by 2m and to get to the toilet you had to walk through part of the shower recess which if somebody had just taken a shower, made your feet wet. And slippery….
- Alan (9/5): Beautiful Bavarian styled antique cottage and decor. Lovely surroundings. - Amazing trip to Raymond Island and beautiful antique cottage. We'd certainly want to visit again and stay longer to enjoy the river beach and surroundings.
Amazing home baked sourdough bread and jam provided as breakfast. Amongst the best sourdough I've had. Nothing really in particular.
- Courtney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Javier (10/5): The property is amazing and the hosts are exceptional. Wonderful place. -
- Mary (8/5): The wildlife met our expectations and beyond - the foot ferry a brilliant service and free! - The host met us at the foot ferry to drive us to Swan Lodge. He was super friendly and happy to pick us up.
This place is on a small island and the foot ferry was the only means of getting there. Usually a car ferry operates. The breakfast was generous and homemade to boot! The outdoor environment was superb, so close to the water as well - the lighting was low, not great for working which my husband was. The couch .. not so comfy (sorry). The stairs to the bedrooms are steepish (for stairs) fine for us, but maybe real oldies might find a challenge. The shower is interesting but pressure good, which is the main thing. Overall not so roomy, but adequate.
