Guest Reviews
- Maria (10/5): - Perfect location, lovely hosts, and a playground for the kids. This is very budget-friendly accommodation for those who enjoy a more natural, rustic setting. The host provides coffee, salt, pepper, and other basics, which is very convenient, and the plate of fruit evwry was a really nice touch.
- Mónica Jazmín (10/5): -
- Steve (9/5): Amazing location. Friendly hostess. - We stayed here 5 days. This place is all about the view. You are perched on the very brim of a huge forested gorge. You can watch the raptors circling on the thermals and the clouds rolling over the hills opposite. Also Sofia is really friendly and gave us free fruit for breakfast any day we were not out. The cooker is a bit basic, but we managed to cook meals just fine.
- David (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay with Lidia and Sofia. The apartment was beautiful and decorated with great attention to detail. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the view of the mountains was absolutely stunning.
The playground was a real highlight for our daughter, while we could relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and the amazing scenery.
What made our stay truly special, however, was the warmth and hospitality of our hosts. Every morning, they brought us fresh fruit – such a thoughtful and generous gesture.
We would absolutely love to come back!
- Nadine (9/5): - A cute, simple place with fantastic, friendly hosts. We enjoyed eating our meals here, looking out over the playground and to the mountains. The location is great, and we found that with our car, everything was within a 5-10 minute drive. My 4-year-old son also loved the playground and playing soccer with some of the locals. The hosts brought a delicious fruit plate every morning, which was a nice surprise!
- Harry (10/5): Hartelijk, comfortabel. Uitzicht! - Moutain vieuw !!! Geen negatief punt.
- Christine (9/5): -
- Chandra Lina (10/5): Magnificent, the stay at Lidia’s Mountain View exceeded our expectations. - The stay at Lidia’s Mountain View exceeded our expectations. For example the warm welcome by Sofia. The lovely hostesses Lidia and Sofia (mother and daughter). Furthermore, the surroundings/location and the apartment itself. I would definitely recommend this accommodation in Monteverde. -
- Alexej (10/5): Best host in Costa Rica - Maybe our best accomodation in Costa Rica even if it was not fancy. You‘ve got a very nice view and the apartment has got everything you need. Sofia is super helpful with laundry and organizing your stay. She has good recommendations for places to go, tours and restaurants. Also we go fresh fruits every morning. We 100% recommend to come here.
- Susan (8/5): Great location. Close to downtown and 20 minutes from parks. - View and location. Fruit plate in the morning was appreciated
- Alexander (10/5): -
- DLSnippe (7/5): - Nice view from the TV room, playground and little outdoor gym. The apartment had very bright lights, which made the place feel like an office. Definitely not cozy.
- Kieran (9/5): - Sofia and Lidia were excellent hosts. Great comfortable bed and view. Fresh fruit provided in the morning.
- Nicola (10/5): - Sophia was amazing, anything we needed was no trouble, she helped us with all our excursions and transport to our next location.
Apartment was light, comfortable, with a great view and very well equipped. We had a great stay. Nothing
- Denneman (10/5): -
- Annette (10/5): A lovely few days made better by a great host and clean, spacious accommodation with amazing view. - Sophia was a wonderful host and the property is lovely, clean, with everything we needed and parking right outside. The view across the deep valley to the cloud forests is exceptional. The spacious outdoor dining area was great with comfy seat in for reading while the neighbours’ cats provided entertainment! Can thoroughly recommend Sofia’s breakfasts and takeaway dinner from the Taco station just up the street. Not a thing
- Michał (10/5): - Spectacular views on cloud forest. Lot of space. Very friendly and helpful owners. Nothing.
- Jordi (6/5): -
Super consigliato!!
- John (10/5): It was great! - Everything was great! The hosts are super nice and gave us tons of good information and check in was easy. The place has wonderful views of the mountains and its a very peaceful place to stay. The kitchen is well equipped and its a great place to relax after traveling for a while. Would definitely stay again Nothing, everything was great!
- Linda (9/5): Great experience, clean, beautiful view and spacious. Great location. Lidia & Sofia were very nice -
- Mariana (7/5): Ok! - Good location (close to restaurants and national parcs), good wifi.
If there isn't any car parked in front of your apartment, you can have a beautiful view of the mountains.
In terms of space, the apartment is confortable for 2 adults and a baby (our case).
The communication with Sofia was very good. Every day in the morning she brought fruits for our breakfast. :) We suggest the owners should make available some basic items in the kitchen, such as sugar, salt and powder coffee.
Some ants will show up if you leave any food on the table (sweety or savory).
Bed can be small if you're tall and the mattress is not so comfortable (too soft).
- Daniel (9/5): Sofia is an 11/10 host. Wonderful - A perfectly nice house in a perfectly nice neighborhood with an amazing view to mountains across a steep valley. Can sit on the porch and birdwatch I guess screens in windows isn’t a thing in Costa Rica? That would have been nice but maybe CR doesn’t have that
- Cristina (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, well equipped, extremely clean. Lidia and Sofia are super friendly and helpful, they offered a lot of tips about the best tours and good restaurants. The view is very beautiful, you can enjoy the forest between clouds.
- Walters (10/5): Exceptional - This is such a great spot - close to town but the view can’t be beat and is quiet and private. Sofia was lovely and brought us fresh fruit every morning. Place was clean and comfortable. Playground was a total hit with the kids!
- Adrianne (9/5): Superb -
- Raphael (10/5): Excellent - Lovely place with a stunning view and a much appreciated children park Nothing
- Emma (10/5): A home away from home - The apartment we stayed in had an amazing view of the mountains in Monteverde, and everything we needed for a 4-day stay (including a fully equipped kitchen). It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, and a short walk to the centre of Santa Elena.
Sofia was so welcoming to us, bringing us fresh fruit every morning, providing us with great recommendations for activities and restaurants, and even helping me when I was unwell.
We could not recommend this place more highly. N/A
- Kim (9/5): Superb - Lovely welcoming hosts. Helpful.
Very cute place with creative touches and yummy fruits one morning.
- Carina (7/5): Good -
- Fn (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely decorated place, cute apartment with well-equipped kitchen. Lots of light! Great views of the mountains obviously.
Sofia actually brought us fresh fruits every morning! Not something bad in particular, but keep in mind that the road to the property is very steep on the last 20 meters. We struggled a little bit with our manual 2x4, could get tricky in the rain.
- Amy (9/5): Comfortable Mountain Home - Sofia was an excellent hostess. She made sure we had everything we needed and was great at communication. The front room had an incredible view and often had rainbows on display. Soap, towels, and kitchen items were provided. The location was a short drive to all of our Monteverde activities and walking distance to a couple of restaurants. Wow - the wind is no joke here! It seemed to be the worst around 3am, and it was very loud, shaking the house. Sofia gave us ear plugs, but I'm a light sleeper and had trouble sleeping.
- Mohammed (10/5): Great friendly stay - Great spacious room , very friendly and hospitable owners , helped me with tips and tours recommendations Nothing really
- Schultz (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (10/5): The property owner was a pleasure to deal with. She checked in to endure our needs were being satisfied. She brought - The property was very clean and comfortable. The view was amazing.
- Branislava (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (8/5): Very good - Lidia and Sophia were very friendly and helpful and looked after us very well. The view of the mountains from the windows of the apartment was really nice. We even had a visit from a group of capuchin monkeys!
- Jelena (8/5): Very good -
- Maxime (8/5): Great apartment - It’s a beautiful location and the apartment is clean and big! The host is very friendly and the fruit in the morning is delicious. The view from the apartment is great and it’s very quiet but close to the center Bed was not great
- Marilyn (10/5): Lovely place, lovely people, lovely stay. - We stayed for 3 nights in Dec. '25. The property had everything we needed and was cleaned to a very high standard. Nice, modern bathroom, well equipped kitchen & a really comfy bed which is just what you need, we slept very well which is unusual for us when on holiday.
The one aspect which made this property really stand out though is Sofia (Lydia's daughter). She is a "little pocket rocket" & one of the nicest, most genuine people we've ever had the pleasure of meeting, anywhere. She will help you as much or as little as you want. We were so grateful for her advice about the zip lining options, & she knows a lovely taxi driver Juan who is reliable, doesn't charge 'tourist rates' & picks you up & drops you off right by the accommodation.
Thank you for a wonderful and memorable stay in Monteverde, if it was closer than a 13.5 hours flight from the U.K. we would certainly return. The weather was pretty awful, cold and wet & the wind in Monteverde is really something, I wonder how anyone has a roof left on their house.
- Taynara (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kimberly (10/5): Amazing view and great host - Great location with an amazing view! The beds were comfortable. Hot shower. Great host.
- Ozcan (9/5): Cute small house in Monteverde - The owner brings fruit in the morning, it has a small kitchen where we could cook. When we arrived,it was very windy and the house is rather at an open space. At the end we managed to sleep with no issues but some people might have issues and in case they have very light sleeps. There is a kid park just below the house but it is not in very good condition. Some things need to be repaired in this park and there are dog-poops since there are dogs nearby.
- Natalia (10/5): Lovely colorful cabin with breathtaking view. - Lovely colorful cabin with breathtaking view in calm neighbourhood. Host very friendly. Kitchen well equipped. Short walk to the centre.
- Peri (10/5): Great CR experience! - Lidia and Sofia made us feel at home. From offering great suggestions of activities, handling the bookings, providing us with complimentary breakfast fruit, alerting us when monkeys arrived and providing bananas to feed them, they always cared about our comfort. Short walk from restaurants. Take Lidia’s cooking class if available! It was a highlight of our trip. Nothing.
- Jakub (8/5): Very good - Big and clean apartment, helpful owners, complementary fruits, about 15 minutes walk to the supermarket. Steep driveway, rather expensive laundry.
- Olly (8/5): Very good - Sofia was a great host. Felt very homely. Good location, just out of town. Decent kitchen. Good value for money. Peaceful. Nothing.
- Kyriacos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christian (9/5): Rustic and basic but very very lovely place with great hosts - A basic and maybe a bit rustic but really lovely place where the owner care about the details. Super friendly host (Sofia) taking care of everything and giving us a warm welcome. Helpful platform listing tours, restaurants and recommendations in the region. We also loved the fruits we got as a courtesy for breakfast. Thanks so much!
Of course this is not a 4* hotel but the value for money is great! We would definitely recommend and stay there again. There is nothing to really mention here. We're on a really high level. However a few thoughts why it's not 10/10 for me:
We had a unusual windy night so it was noisy and doors and windows were shaking a bit. Also if you looking for small things to improve: there could be a bit more cutlery in the kitchen, a better cutting board and the bathroom door was a bit off touching the bathroom sink. I would also feel even more comfy with warm white lighting (instead of some warm white and some cold white led lights). The digital info platform is a great idea but at the moment it's just a collection of helpful ideas. Next step would be a bit more details making it more a recommendation/characterization of the activities to help choosing what fits best to my preferences.
All of this are just very personal preferences which would have made it perfect to me.
However, I would definitely recommend and also stay there again for myself.
- Sasikiran (7/5): Nice friendly owners - Good location, friendly owners. Well decorated apartments and clean. Nice fridge and kitchen. Owers gave us fruit on 1 of our 2 days stay there. Ants in the apartment. If you drop one tiny crumb of food you will have a swarm of small black ants. The playground is overgrown with knee high weeds. Not like the pictures at all. Was concerned when our kids played there. Owers should have a professional spray the apartment to control the ants. Did not have this problem staying within the jungle in La Fortuna. Rooms are a little small, had to keep suitcases in the living room.
- Wolfgang (9/5): Lovely place to stay - Quiet location and very helpful, friendly host who speaks excellent English. The wooden sofa was really uncomfortable (only a minor complaint!)
- Maggie (7/5): Good - We enjoyed our stay at Lidia’s house. The views are amazing. The price was good and my kids loved the space to move about it. So it was worth it for us. The cabin is rustic, but we weren’t expecting a 5 star resort. The location was close to town.
- Bobby (10/5): Great place to stay outside of town! - Great place outside of town. Hosts were great. Provided fresh fruit each morning of our stay. Great view of a natural ravine.
Playground was fun for the kids.
Quiet place to stay.
Would also recommend having them make you breakfast, as it was yummy. Shower is a heat at head which can be common for the area, but does not lend to a great shower.
- Alyssa (10/5): Best value in Costa Rica with hosts who will treat you like family - Staying at Lidia’s home was truly the highlight of our trip. Lidia and her daughter Sofia are the kindest hosts you could ever hope for and they will make sure you are well-cared for throughout your stay. From booking all our transportation and activities to offering delicious Costa Rican foods to providing insider tips on Monteverde and Costa Rica in general, they deliver a first-rate, cultural experience—the definition of pura vida.
The location is walking distance to shops, restaurants, parks, and the bus stop that can take you into Monteverde for only 800 colones. They also provide free parking or will arrange local transportation to help you navigate the area. Also, the house is located within a friendly, vibrant community which affords a glimpse into the local life (a bonus that my kids and I absolutely loved!).
The house itself is comfortable for all travelers, providing comfy beds, good Internet, a fully-loaded kitchen, and an outdoor dining area where you can view beautiful sunrises/sunsets surrounded by nature and your kids can play all day at the backyard park. I relished cooking everyday and observing the clouds drift by while watching my kids play at the park from the window.
Protip—request a cooking class (or several!) with Lidia and Sofia. It was the best value and meal we had in Costa Rica, and my only regret is that we did it once. For less than the price of eating at one of the local restaurants, the hosts will provide a cooking lesson/dinner for your entire family while imparting their love of Costa Rican cuisine, all in the comfort of your kitchen. To say the food was delicious is an understatement and does not do justice to Lidia’s commanding expertise in the kitchen or Sofia’s love of imparting her knowledge of good Costa Rican food.
In summary, if you are looking for a comfortable stay with hosts who treat you like family in an excellent location, do not hesitate to book Lidia’s Mtn View home. We will definitely be back!❤️❤️❤️ Nothing
- Michal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Einat (8/5): Very good - The hostess was very nice, giving us a thorough explanation in English. The room was cozy and styled, and there is a beautiful view of the valley. There was a cricket in our room in one of the nights, it did not bother us.
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible view, quiet location but near the town centre. Comfortable accomodation with some design flairs and all designed to maximize the view. Complementary fruit plate was delicious and plentiful. And Sofia helped us with booking transport as we didn't have a car.
- Archelle (9/5): Tico-style living with beautiful Monteverde Cloud Forest views. - Tico-style living with Monteverde's Cloud Forest Views. The host provided fresh fruit during our stay. There is a playground across the road and viewable from the sunroom. We were there for a week and saw rainbows most days. Our kids were also treated to local wildlife (monkeys) around the playground. The wifi was strong (149 Mbps), but would intermittently go off depending on the weather. The house is conveniently close to the town with access to supermarkets, a bakery, and shops. Our host was accommodating and responsive to our requests. The kitchen was sparse with wares and utensils. It is sufficient for short stays if guests plan to eat out more often than prepare meals. There is no oven and the pots and pans are due for refresh, as some seem to have been damaged from previous use. Additional utensils and some reusable storage for leftovers would be greatly appreciated. The daybed in the sunroom is a bit worn and can benefit from reupholstery to be a bit more comfortable.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - Everything you need, comfortable & delicious fruit every morning
- Shahana (9/5): Lovely property with amazing hosts and view - The property has a very beautiful mountain view, where we saw a giant rainbow each afternoon. It is also very clean. Lidia and Sophia are extremely nice and helpful, they offer you a delicious fruit plate to start each morning. I also recommend to try the breakfast it you have time, which was home-cooked and delicious. It is very windy in general in Monteverde but the windows of the property shake very much with wind which can wake you up many times. I also don’t recommend this property to you if you are afraid of insects, as we found a scorpion in the sink.
- Thorben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Faye (9/5): Superb -
- Megan (9/5): Truly welcoming and wonderful! - The manager and owner were both very friendly and very responsive to any questions or requests we had. Our children loved the playground right next to the house. The mountain view really is gorgeous - and there were rainbows most days! The indoor space was comfortable and clean, and the kitchen had what we needed for simple meals. People with mobility issues should be advised that the location is a the bottom of a short, steep gravel street. Some vehicles (tour shuttles, etc.) asked that we walk part-way up the hill so they wouldn't get stuck on the steepest lower half. This was fine for our group, but could be an issue for some.
- Bryan (8/5): Very good -
- Mainor (10/5): Great spot, great hosts. - The property was exceptionally clean and the hosts were super kind and attentive. I was recommended the place and I will not hesitate to recommend it to everyone that wants a nice stay in Monteverde
- Bevin (9/5): Good location, great hosts, lovely fresh fruit tray for breakfast. - Great location, just a bit out of town but not right in it. The property is nice and spacious, and well equipped. We found it a little close ventilation wise, and while there were big windows to open none of them had screens on them.
- Jan (9/5): Superb - Everything was very nice. The Kitchen could need some additional silverware and pans, but has sufficient. Nothing to complain
- Manuel (10/5): cozy apartment with great host - very cozy little apartment. everything was very clean and well equipped. sofia, our host, was super friendly and very helpful with tours, taxis etc.
- Katarzyna (10/5): The best place to stay in Monteverde! - This was the best stay we came across in Central America. We truly felt like at home. Sofi puts effort in welcoming, informing and accommodating guests! Muchas gracias!
- Rachel (9/5): Beautiful property in Monteverde! - Gorgeous views, fun playground, comfy rooms, very nice staff. We would have loved to open the windows to get fresh air, but with no screens the bugs flew right in.
- Racha (9/5): Very comfortable and cozy stay! Nice hosts - Amazing and friendly staff! Nice rooms with all facilities needed. Location is 10 mins walking distance from city center. Not far but also not that close. I ended up getting taxi for most the time to different places.
- Eva (8/5): Lovely stay, we enjoyed it a lot. - We really enjoyed the fresh fruit every morning and the view is amazing! Lidia and Sofia are also very lovely hosts. It got quite hot during our stay, so an AC would have been nice. Also, the internet connection was dropping in and off.
- Sanjana (9/5): Superb - Lidia and Sofia were wonderful hosts. They served a large platter of fruit in the morning for breakfast even though our booking didn't include breakfast. It was such a joy to see the place decorated by local artists. They also recommended an excellent taco place (a small business run by 2 people). Love that they support small businesses like their own. Their laundry service was excellent too.
- Casper (8/5): Very good - The location is beautiful and the room was clean and comfortable. The fruit in the morning was excellent. It is good to have earplugs because the wind is blowing at night.
- Matthew (10/5): Nice Spot - Very nice place right before town coming up the 606. Sofia can arrange anything you need as far as activities and transport. Very clean and interesting house.
- Stuart (10/5): Highly recommended and good value for money - The space was lovely. Especially liked the outdoor seating area. Lidia and Sophia were very nice. The view was amazing and Monteverde is a really nice place. All in all we had a great 2 night stay
- Mariusc (10/5): Exceptional - Dona Lidia is such a sweet, kind and considerate lady, it's impossible not to love her. The house is very cozy, and we really felt very good here. The view is nice from here, the dogs are friendly, and even the monkeys are friendly. The internet works well also. -
- Rafi (10/5): Exceptional - Lidia and Sofie are super nice, and attentive. We had a really great time in their place Everything was great. No complaints
- Daisy (10/5): Exceptional - This was a great place to stay while in Monteverde. It is a reasonable walk to restaurants (if you do not want to cook yourself in the small, but well stocked kitchen). Lidia and her daughter were very attentive and even brought fresh cut fruit in the morning!
- Michelle (8/5): A really picturesque location for a short stopover - Beautiful views, self contained and well presented. Lidia and her daughter (and Ellie the dog) are lovely. The steep slope down was a bit hairy (though Lidia had warned us!) especially parking the car! Just be mindful with small children as the play area is lovely, but the drop is huge!
- Deanna (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (9/5): Cozy mountain hideaway with family atmosphere - Location on mountain ridge , very kind, warm, attentive hosts and dog, privacy respected, eco/sustainability oriented, kitchen well equipped, personal touch with arts, crafts and wall paintings. Wind blowing wildly. Cornucopia of fruits (tray) offered every morning . Access is difficult due to very steep gravel driveway (for a short distance) , 4wd best but not absolutely essential. Wifi was unpredictable.
- Kent (9/5): Wonderful owners and great mount view. - Lidia and Sofia were very friendly owners, they gave us fresh fruit every morning. The rental was clean and well-equipped and located in a peaceful area The view from the house of the hills was great. The road down to the rental was a bit steep and narrow. I was a little hesitant to go down at the beginning, but was fine after that, even at night and in the rain. We had a 2-wheel drive compact SUV.
- Melanie (8/5): Comfortable, clean and close to all the fun stuff - The breakfast was great and Sophia brought it over before my early departure which was really nice. She was also there to meet me on arrival and the property was close to my activities. I would recommend it and stay here again ! Some loud vehicle noises in the neighborhood but that wasn’t the fault of the property owner.
- Hannah (10/5): The best hotel in Monteverde! - Bungalow was very cute and clean, good location (ten minutes walk from town or less), AMAZING host!
Sofia brought us fresh fruit each morning, gave us loads of good recommendations, helped us to book shuttles, even helped us with our laundry. Thank you for everything Sofia!
For lunch or dinner, we would recommend Taco Station (a neighbour’s takeaway business), Manolo’s and (best of all) Soda de Armistad. Plus the original canopy tour!
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Céline (9/5): Would recommend, very cute - It is a great stay and very near to the center (by car and foot). Sofia is a very nice host, they even brought us fresh fruit in the morning. There is no A/C but Monteverde is pretty chilli with wind so its not nessesairy. The road to the house is a bit steep (4wd is recommended). There is even a cute dog in front of the house, big bonus. Its just something small, but figuring out the shower with the temperature can be a little tricky.
- Carmen (10/5): Peaceful! - I love the countryside, so this place was great! Lidia & Sofia were great host! They made us a pot of coffee on arrival and in the morning a plate of local fruits. It's so peaceful there!
