Guest Reviews
- gamze (9/5): - Metroya yürüme mesafesindeydi. Sakin bir sokaktaydı. Fotoğraflardaki ile aynı ev. Keyifli bir konaklama oldu. Teşekkürler
- Katarina, Dubrovnik (10/5): - Everything. The fact that the interior perfectly reflects the elements of traditional lifestyle, it made us feel "japanese". Very comfortable living room, beds were good... The property

- Samantha (9/5): Lovely and spacious apartment in a good location - Huge beautiful space.

- Suresh (7/5): The apartment was well located near the Metro, clean, and fully equipped. - The apartment was well located near the Metro, clean, and fully equipped, overall very convenient and comfortable. The amenities were thoughtful, and we found everything we needed for a short stay. However, the property does require some maintenance; being “vintage” shouldn’t mean guests have to struggle with stiff bathroom doors and wooden fittings. What affected our experience most was the lack of flexibility during check-in. After a 24-hour journey and a night at the airport, we only requested to drop off our luggage earlier, but Ashley strictly insisted on a 3 PM check-in and as an alternative, suggested leaving our bags at Shinjuku Station. This felt rigid and inconsiderate, especially for travellers arriving from abroad with limited time in Tokyo.
That said, we do appreciate that on the day of checkout, Ashley allowed us to leave about 30 minutes later as we were delayed while collecting our car. This gesture is acknowledged and appreciated.
We wish Ashley the best and hope future guests find the same comfort we did, with perhaps a bit more flexibility to make their stay even better.
- Ashland (9/5): Good home to return to from the city; quiet and comfortable place. - Quiet rural neighborhood. Good cafes and restaurants in area. Close to train station. Only 1 bathroom on first level. Trash/recycling system a little confusing.
- Sandeep (9/5): Great value & lots of space. - Lots of space, value for stay was incredible.
- Michard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lecky (10/5): The house itself was huge with plenty of space for our group. The Internet was fast and there were plenty of amenities l - We had a fantastic stay at The Samurai House. Ashley meet us at the station, which was a great help to us as we had a little bit of extra luggage that he assisted with.
The pre-arrival information he sent, the house welcome pack, and questions he answered before the booking were also of a great help, as Japan/Tokyo can be a difficult place to navigate sometimes. Once inside Ashley quickly and courteously explain the house rules. We had lots of extra questions and he was able to give us information on the best restaurants in the area and also giving us transportation recommendations for the rest of our journey in Japan and information on luggage forwarding. We were very grateful for his local knowledge Nothing. Loved it.
- Patrick (2/5): The truth about Samurai House and your host Ashley - The property was located close to public transportation and in a quiet neighbourhood. The beds were relatively comfortable and the heating helped in the spaces they were installed. The owners provided some essentials for free such as soap and shampoo. The host Ashley provided the worst check-in we’ve ever experienced, as a result of a bookings.com system error that led us to the wrong location. Bookings.com sent a formal apology, our host Ashley however didn’t care. Ashley is more interested in telling people about the fact he’s been managing properties for 10 years and currently manages over 30. This was an unnecessarily pompous attitude to have given our situation. Ashley doesn’t even know one of my kids is blind, and we’ve just been walking in unknown Tokyo streets for hours. Although what happened wasn’t Ashley’s fault he made it personal by insulted us by using phrases like “one would have thought it’s easy”, showed zero empathy about the booking agency’s fault that lead us to walking significantly farther than we should have on our first day in a foreign country, didn’t greet us in a professional or friendly manner (simply jumped into drilling us about the rules of the house) and got so irritated by the fact that I pointed out to him the issue on the booking app that he stormed off like a teenage brat, said he doesn’t need to deal with this and left us all flabbergasted by his attitude. We’ve never met such a host in our years of travel. Naturally this led me to investigate the true situation about Samurai House and its host, which simply said is a tourist trap in desperate need of TLC. The house is uncomfortable, certain rooms can’t be used as the two old heating systems doesn’t cover the size of all the rooms (bathroom and toilets are freezingly cold), the appliances are so old the white plastic started turning yellow in places and they’re so inefficient. The the house is stuck in the past and not managed/maintained well… as Ashley admitted himself when he said he doesn’t have time to check on all his properties. This place should change its name from Samurai House (totally inappropriate and disrespectful given Samurai values) to Patchwork House.
- Hayley (10/5): Fabulous stay for first time in Tokyo. Ash and Tracey were both very helpful. Kids loved the house especially the tradit - Excellent location close to station
Large house plenty of space for two families with children
Excellent hosts very accomodating Steep stairs for kids but had a door we could close to keep the two year old going up and down independently
- Alex (9/5): Superb -
- Vladimir (10/5): Exceptional - the house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Location is ideal to explore Shinjuku district as well as big Tokyo area.
Ash and Tracey are exceptionally hospitable and helpful hosts. Can’t complian
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (9/5): Very spacious, great location near station, shops and restaurants. - Location was great
- Sam (7/5): Great location, excellent communication with the hosts, traditional Japanese style but a little tired and worn in some p - The traditional style was nice and the location was excellent. The accommodation is a little worn and tired but good overall.
- Neil (9/5): Superb -
- Annonymous (8/5): Excellent place to stay for a group. Wonderful area to stay with everything you need -
- Sunil (9/5): Superb - Nice cosy Japanese house, perfect for a larger family, centrally located, peaceful and quiet

- Christian (9/5): Superb -
- Vernon (6/5): Pleasant -
- Arpan (4/5): Disappointing - Enough beds for 8 of us Only 1 toilet and 1 bathroom.., house is old and does not match with picture . Microwave don’t show time .. Main door lock stuck all the time .. door are shorts and difficult for tall people to enter … check in process is difficult as we need to coordinate with owner and owner got us waiting outside the house for around 30 mins in middle of night ..
- Sharon (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (9/5): Great place, great location. - The location of the property was excellent, being a short walk from the metro and shops to get grocery supplies. There were also some good food options close by. The house itself was clean, warm and comfortable for our two family groups to stay together with plenty of room to move around. We were met at the house by Ashley who explained everything to us and was quick to respond to any enquiries. Not that we cooked at the house as our stay was only short, however if a family were to stay and use the kitchen there is not any preparation space, but unsure if this is typical for Japan?
- Diane (9/5): Superb -
- Marjolaine (9/5): Superb - The proximity to public transport, shops and restaurants.
The place is well appointed and works well for families
The quiet and authentic neighbourhood, we enjoyed not being surrounded by other tourists
The warm welcome by the owner It was a little cold downstairs, but still very comfortable
- Melissa (10/5): Cozy stay in a wonderfully convenient and quiet neighborhood - Great neighborhood, comfortable beds, well-equipped house with washer, dryer, and kitchen amenities. The neighborhood was wonderfully quiet with groceries stores, restaurants and metro station within walking distance. Family of 6 had to get used to using one bathroom.
- Yu (9/5): Superb - it's in a great location minutes away from restaurants, convenience stores, and the subway station
- Manith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kyle (8/5): Very good - Nice house with plenty of space for a large family to relax in and have personalized space. Most cost effective option for our 9-person party. Host fully explained everything we would need to know about the property. Good option for large international groups who have limited familiarity traveling to Japan/Tokyo. The house is the right size for large traveling parties with the exception of its single bathroom. Fortunately the toilet and bath are separated which alleviates this issue a bit. Overall this was not enough to ruin our experience.
- Elissa (10/5): Fantastic family home, very cosy and comfortable, lots of space and great area. - This feels like a relaxed, family home with a big, soft lounge with lots of cushions, and very comfortable beds. It is huge so the space is terrific for a family. We travelled with two teenagers. The kitchen and dining room are great, and everyone can have their own room to chill out in. The location is near a train station, with nice small restaurants and bars, a good supermarket very nearby. The Australian hosts are super friendly and great with communication, they will meet you to explain everything. We found the area quiet. It has the lovely feel of a Japanese home but with added Western touches, such as knives and forks, tea towels, English black tea, a few supplies such as cooking oil. It has an Xbox and cable TV for tired kids at night. We stayed three nights and would definitely come here again. If you're looking for a luxurious bathtub and bathroom experience, this isn't it. The bathroom is small and Japanese in style with a deep square bath and a handheld shower, and the sink for brushing teeth or washing your face is in the kitchen. This is common in Japan. There is one toilet and it's downstairs away from the bedrooms, this is also common and we didn't find it a problem at all.
