Guest Reviews
- Ken (10/5): Great location and property - Location and facilities. The host met us and was friendly, helpful and showed us around the property. Beds a little hard, but did not stop us having a good night's sleep.
- Jean (8/5): Very good facilities and helpful owner. - Convenient location and good facilities. Lovely garden. Owner met us when we arrived and gave us lots of information and was very helpful. Lounge was comfortable and tv had British channels. Lots of character in this house. Both bathrooms were on the first floor with 1 bedroom. Second floor bedroom meant going down a flight of difficult stairs to the bathroom and this was treacherous at night. The house had central heating but we could not get the downstairs to work. The owner was contactable but we didn't feel it warranted bothering him. We were not aware that we needed to book the garage until just before we went but thankfully it was still available for a small charge. Several trip hazards for older people or those with limited mobility.
- Julia (8/5): We enjoyed our stay very much and eventually found a routine around the liberalism of the toilets/shower rooms. We’d - Great location, very central and close to free parking. Very easy to find and a great option for visiting the Battlefields sites The bathrooms are not quite in keeping with the rest of the property. Although very clean and well equipped, the three rooms are not completely separated with floor to ceiling walls. There is a gap of about 18 inches around the top of the toilet room, the combined shower/ toilet room and other shower. It makes for a fairly intimate experience with your friends when 3 x couples are staying. I expect that it’s not an issue for families, just a little uncomfortable for a group of middle aged friends.
- rick (10/5): Excellent accommodation - Everything was great There was nothing to dislike
- Ann (9/5): -
Zeer aangenaam weekend hier verbleven.
- Christian (10/5): -

- Nick (10/5): Lovely stay. Highly recommended provided the stairs aren't an issue for you. - Excellent location - very close to the town centre - Menin Gate, Cloth Hall and museums, churches and the garage which we hired at an attractive rate via our host, Alain. Attractive and stylish traditional town house. Spacious and pleasant interior with an extraordinary collection of WWI and police memorabilia. Great to have access to a fine courtyard garden. Generous facilities and equipment. Spotless. Alain was very efficient, communicative, helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Le Chat Noir is a tall townhouse on three floors (actually there is a fourth, used for large parties only). No bedrooms or bathroom on the ground floor. Not suitable for anyone who finds stairs difficult. We were three men of mature years (in our 60s and 70s) but all reasonably fit and no mobility issues - a couple of flights of steps normally no problem. We were OK but had to be very careful: quite steep, narrow steps with not over-generous banisters; guests are required to remove shoes to go upstairs since these are un-carpeted white-painted steps. Won't be an issue for most people. The less nimble or parents with children should be aware.
- Mary Anne Maher (10/5): “Our stay at La Chat Noir was fantastic! The house was impeccably clean, warm & comfortable. - N/a There wasn't anything to dislike, the place is immaculate, so handy for walking into Ypres. Plenty of restaurants, bars, shops within walking or driving distance.
House was cozy and warm, beds were so comfortable. Plenty of delph, cutlery, towels, pillows, cloths & tea towels.
We loved every minute of our stay.
- Peter (10/5): Excellent accommodation close to the centre of town. Excellent host who was extremely helpful - Excellent host, extremely welcoming, extremely helpful. Convenient secure parking 100m away. Spotlessly clean apartment. It was all good
- Rowena (10/5): Amazing host and amazing location. Great value for money and we would return. - The host was so lovely and helped us to check in after a long delay which meant he was up very late but still so friendly and helpful. The banisters were a bit wobbly, which was fine for adults but hence the reason they don’t accept children I expect.
- RICHARD (10/5): 10/10 Brilliant find. - Superb location, minutes from centre. Free parking nearby. 3 story town house with stairs only, so bear that in mind. Very clean and tidy all round with lots of character. Alain met us on site and gave us a tour before leaving us to it. Alain was very friendly and his communication throughout was fabulous. We would 100% book again. 10/10...if it was the Amplifier in Spinal Tap...it would even go to 11. Nothing.
- Heaps (10/5): Remembrance 2025 Le Chat Noir - Easy check in, great facilities and location in Ypres, this was our second stay here...Thank you Alain, see you again! 4 of us stayed, no complaints at all!
- Timothy (10/5): We couldn’t have asked for a better property or host, thanks again, Alain. - It was easy to find and well located. It’s a quirky property with lots of character and has been decorated by the owner with lots of memorabilia, in keeping with the location.
Alain is a really thoughtful host and kept us updated with local events during our stay. No oven in the kitchen (microwave grill provided I think but we don’t know how to use one!)
- Duncan (9/5): Excellent stay - Close to centre good facilities clean comfortable everything we needed was provided Number of stairs !
- Clare (10/5): Great place to stay.Alain couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was perfect - Really convenient location with everything you need at hand. Nothing!
- Richard (10/5): Great place to stay when visiting Ypres - Great location and Alain, the host was great, telling us everything we needed to know. Less than 5 minutes walk to the Market square. Stairs were steep, but not a problem for us.
- Erwin (9/5): -
- Steve (9/5): It was a fantastic stay, I would be happy to stay again - Location was great. It was clean and tidy and was home from home Bed was hard for my liking
- chris (9/5): -

- Jennifer (10/5): -
- Carmen (10/5): The perfect place to stay in Ieper - The host, Alain, met us at the door and explained everything. He was very welcoming. Loved the little touches like water & juice. The outdoor courtyard was like an oasis after a week in Paris. Very clean and comfortable and walking distance to everywhere. The property has many interesting pieces of WW1 memorabilia to explore. Really enjoyed our time here & wished we could stay longer. Only the stairs, and that was due to my dodgy knee.
- Xavier (9/5): -
- Del (10/5): -
- Sally (10/5): Fantastic house in perfect location - Clean, spacious, comfortable, and great location. Perfect place to stay. There is nothing not to like
- emma (10/5): Wonderful stay, great house very clean and welcoming. - Beautiful clean house, close to the city centre.

- Andre (8/5): Very good -
- Margaret (10/5): Location was fabulous and accommodation very comfortable. - Location. Alain was very helpful and courteous. He really made our stay personal and enjoyable. He gave us lots of local information. Only issue was the stairs. No bathroom amenities on ground floor.
- Jeff (10/5): Wonderful property, in a beautiful town. Perfect for group bookings. - It was very clean and comfortable Stairs were very steep for me .
But we knew that we were staying in an old town house, so no complaints.
- Petet (9/5): Short and enjoyable stay. - Excellent location for Town centre.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Jolliffe (10/5): Christmas break in Ypres. - Great location, suited our requirements of 3 bedrooms. Lovely town house. 5 min walk to Ypres town centre. Loads of bars and places to eat. Never dislikes anything about the place. Not recommended if you struggle with stairs as bedrooms & toilet are on the upper floors
- Keith (8/5): Very good - Great venue for central Ypres and exploring further afield. Host was very informative and helpful.
Would definitely stay again
- Drew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Lovely house in a great location. Would have liked a proper oven and 2 toilets .
- Sally (10/5): Fantastic - An excellent all round property and host. I cannot find anything that could have improved our stay.
- Frank (8/5): Very good -
- Clifford (10/5): Great place to stay in Ypres - Amazing house in the middle of town
Great host
Could not ask for more Nothing
- Greg (10/5): Great value home in the centre of Ypres. - Alain met us at a convenient time, showed us around the house and explained how things worked.
- Mark (9/5): Spot on. Would use again if staying in Ypres - Good communication with host prior to arrival. Arranged to meet at property at agreed time. Property short walk to Ypres main square. We rented a garage direct from host to park our motorbikes in (5) Nothing really. Able to self cater. Only downside was the noise from a bathroom fan that ran for about 20 minutes after light went off
- Mike (10/5): Excellent host, excellent facilities and fully recommend this property - The accommodation provided us with everything we required whilst staying in Ypres N/A
- Pam (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent base for Ypres Town Centre. Property is good value for money, good sized dining room, lounge, bathrooms and bedrooms. Clean and tidy and courtyard very nice. Parking a short distance away. Would definitely use again. Nothing at all.
- Linda (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable stay, great property. - Very quirky property set over 3 floors, great location, very handy for everything Ypres had to offer, which was more than we realised. The garage which was available to rent separately was very near to the property. The host, Alain, was very helpful and amenable. Can’t think of anything.
- Stuart (10/5): Ideal location - Close to the square, easy free parking close by. Alain always on hand if needed Nothing to dislike
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Victor (10/5): Excellent property for groups exploring Ypres and the surrounding area - Plenty of room, 2 shower rooms(1 with toilet) 1 separate toilet. Fully equipped kitchen, sizeable lounge and dining area. Comfortable and spacious bedrooms. Lovely little enclosed garden. Loads of interesting ornaments/pictures. Nothing, everything was fantastic.
- Dennis (9/5): Superb - Cracking 3 level property close to all the main attractions in the town. WiFi wasn’t the best and mate was a blogger so was small issue for him.
- Leake (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trish (9/5): Superb - Location Nothing
- Trevor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ave (8/5): Everything you need is here with a little bit of thought and input it could be exceptional - Location, cleanliness, parking, 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Use of kitchen sitting room and dining area. Steep stairs not suitable for the infirm. Lumpy pillows and inferior mattresses. If the pillows and mattresses were upgraded it would greatly improve the accommodation
- James (10/5): Perfect Once Again - Alain is the perfect host, with the perfect property for a stay of any duration - short or long. Property is a 3 minute walk to the Cloth Hall and obviously all the bars and restaurants are in very close proximity. The location could not be any better, really. Parking immediately outside has a max stay of 3 hours from 9am-6pm Monday to Saturday, but there is plenty of parking within a very short walk if you plan to leave your car in the city and go exploring.
Le Chat Noir is a beautiful old former antiques shop. Inside you will find lots of relics from the Great War and various Police hats and helmets from a whole range of forces. Lovely well equipped and comfortable lounge and a very good kitchen with all you could need during your stay. Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms spread across two floors - we always find them to be perfectly quiet and comfortable and spotlessly clean - also has excellent central heating if the weather is as unkind as it was for us on our last trip.
This was our second stay here, and we will be back. Excellent communication from Alain during the entire process and he's a lovely gentleman, too.
- Mike (9/5): All we expected with a great location and plenty of info on WW1 to browse. - Everything on hand for self catering. A short walk into the town centre. Free parking nearby. Central heating which was great as it was -5C outside! Didn't find any breakfast bowls. Wooden spiral staircase which might be difficult for someone with limited mobility.
- Alun (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (9/5): Great property, great location - Excellent location with free parking very close by. Well equipped and comfortable property and Alain was very welcoming.
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Heaps (8/5): Very good - Great place and great location, thanks to Alain a great host! Could do with laundry facilities.
- Jacquie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tanya (9/5): Overall and excellent place to stay - Host was very helpful with checking in and check out. Lovely big apartment, clean and host provided unlimited supply of teas & coffee. Pillows could be better, but lumpy
- Chris (9/5): Nice stay in a nice place run by a nice person. - Use of second toilet and bathroom. The bathroom was smack for people of our size. The stairs were a little too steep
- Lesley-ann (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, lovely house and a fabulous host. Nothing negative to say about the property.
- Ralph (10/5): An exceptional property in an exceptional place. We'll be back! - This is an exceptional property. Brilliant house in aa excellent location and a great host. Couldn't fault anything. Leaving

- May (10/5): Exceptional - The host, Alain, was extremely welcoming and helpful and the guesthouse is beautiful and full of fascinating objects to do with WW1. The facilities were excellent. A very confortable stay all round. Location couldn't have been better. Nothing - it was wonderful .
- Andy (9/5): Would definitely use again - Host was very nice, told us lots of info and kept in contact before and during. Perfect location for the town. Great size for big groups. Steep stairs inside which can't be helped. Floors squeaky but it's an older building so you expect it.
- Tracy (10/5): Very accommodating & perfectly placed. - Alain our host was amazing! He not only met us & showed us round, he also came on last day to say goodbye. Honesty box was amazing as fridge had water, beer, orange etc so saved going to the shop if you just wanted a drink. Garden is just a lovely extra & we spent a few hours each afternoon sitting outside & also had breakfast too. The whole apartment was well used & would recommend 100%
- Peter (8/5): Le Chat Noir is atmospheric, with interesting exhibits and a great base for a WW1 battlefields tour. - Alain, the host, met us on arrival and was very thorough in his briefing - a perfect host! Many thanks and much appreciated! First impressions really do count! The kitchen is a bit crowded for group catering and the bathroom facilities would be better with a more discrete configuration - i.e. floor to ceiling compartments.
The floorboards are quite noisy at night.
A choice of pillows would provide better sleeping comfort.
- Clive (8/5): great location with helpful host - the location was easy to get to restuarants and facilities.
The garden was superb for such a central appartment.
the host was informative and helpful
- Neville (10/5): top location - the owner was wonderful and helped us it was great
- Janetd (8/5): Very good place to stay for visiting Ypres centre. - The host was very helpful. There is free street parking available just around the corner. The house was very clean. The location is excellent, only a few minutes walk from the town square, with a useful night shop a little way down the same street. The house has very steep stairs which were quite daunting. The kitchen was well equipped but there is very little work surface space.
- Jjmck (10/5): Exceptional - This is a lovely space to spend time in. Fabulous house close to the square. Comfortable and all the extras to make it feel like home. The garden was so inviting and especially with the sun shining. The stairs were a bit steep but we took our time.

- Paul (8/5): Very enjoyable with a delightful host - Clean and safe I think some contrast on the steps, they felt a bit scary in the half light
- Jonathon (10/5): Perfect base for touring the salient. - Perfect location. Loved all the ww1 artifacts and memorabilia on display in the house.
Bags of character and very well equipped.
Would definitely use again should I return to the area.

- Liam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaun (10/5): Superb stay and excellent for military tourism - Excellent location, guesthouse, information, cleanliness and host. Couldn't have asked for better.
- James (10/5): A comfortable and calming weekend away at Le Chat Noir - Alain is a wonderful host. Excellent communication prior to arrival, and a lovely check-in experience. The property itself is very beautiful, and filled with many interesting things. Less than 5 minutes walk to the middle of town and all that beautiful Ieper has to offer. We can't recommend Le Chat Noir enough, and will absolutely return. Fabulous value for money, comfortable, clean, and everything one could need for a long break, never mind a short one. Some lovely touches inside the property, and plenty of room, too.
