• Cathryn (9/5): Really enjoyable stay in a cute house that felt like a home, close to lots of attractions - The location was excellent - close to the train, walking distance to the heart of Shinjuku Tokyo can be cold in January - we were a little unprepared for that

• Haimy (8/5): OK value for money. - Location. Nomber of rooms. Privacy. The owner was to invaciv and did not help us when we really needed his help. Was very strict. Too many messages and phone calls about the garbage. 3 floors 1 toilets at ground floor.
• Martin (7/5): Hervorragend - Wir waren zu dritt für drei Nächte im Pencil Haus. Die Unterkunft war zentral gelegen und gut ausgestattet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und können sie nur empfehlen. Für japanische Verhältnisse bot die Unterkunft sehr viel Platz.
• Doron (10/5): Absolutely great and Ash is very helpful and friendly! - Ashley and Tracey were super helpful and the house is very well equipped to give you an “at home” feeling. The house is a bit crowded but it is well noticed that Ashley and Tracey thought about every little detail and what can help to get comfortable. Could help if the washing machine was also a dryer but it was very easy to hang laundry on the balcony and even there there’s everything you may need…
• Sally (9/5): - The accommodation was very clean and had everything you needed in it ,beds were comfortable and it was a straight walk to shinjuku station Adult family of 5 with a baby, even had a portable cot and baby gates Host was very helpful and always available if we had any questions 😊
• Benjamin (8/5): Gute Unterkunft für längeren Aufenthalt - Sehr gute Lage, aber etwas laut wegen angrenzender Hauptverkehrsader. Direkt nebenan ist ein 7/11 und die Metro ist in 5 min zu Fuß erreichbar. Das Haus hat alles was man braucht, bei dem Preis hätten wir aber etwas bessere Qualität erwartet (z.B. bei Betten und Sofa). Für uns drei Personen war das Haus trotz tiny Bauweise recht geräumig Dank drei Schlafzimmern. Es gibt nur ein WC, das im Erdgeschoss unter die Treppe integriert ist und somit sehr sehr beengt ist.

• Wittmer (10/5): Perfect home to explore West Tokyo. - This is a great house away from the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku and Shibuya. It is a short subway ride from Shinjuku (Hatsudai Station, or you could walk). You could easily have a family of six in the house. We had a family of four. There is a 7-11 within eyesight and a larger grocery store about a block away. Several good lunch and dinner places within walking distance and open late. We loved the Mini-Indian restaurant. Easy walk to Metropolitan Government Building. There was light road noise which I find comforting, but you may want to include earplugs for light sleepers. Felt very safe and kids ventured out on their own. I liked everything about this property, but you need to build in travel time. Look at your itinerary and the metro lines to see if this would work for you. You will likely need to transfer at Shinjuku which is a complex station. I found Google Maps underestimated the time needed to transfer platforms and lines.
• Sara (10/5): Excellent house in central location - The Pencil house is very close to a train station (3 minute walk) and around the corner from a 7-11 (1 min walk) which you will grow to love if you visit Japan (they actually have good food!) The house has everything you might need, is super well designed, and the layout is nice. One bedroom is on ground floor, near the toilet, and there is a middle layer with a comfy couch/tv (lots of streaming options!) and well-equipped kitchen, and there are two bedrooms on the top floor. It was perfect for our family of four! Nothing we didn't like! Having more than 4 people could be hard with one bathroom, BUT the toilet is in a separate room from the shower and sink/mirror area which is super nice.
• Habib (10/5): Good experience and nice quiet location - Location location location , 7/11 store 25 yards away, open 24 hrs , supermarket and food court 8 walk away, u can walk to shinjuku if u have light luggage otherwise uber in from airport, 3 bedrooms. Attention to detail from host noticeable to make your stay comfy. Washing machine easy to use and v appreciated. Good insulation. Could have used xtrabathroom, realize space is small , for 2-4 person group it’s good , colimacon , spiral staircase so if u have difficulty going stairs, its not for you

Pencil house is small by kids loved roaming up and down the house. Location was great given that the start line for Tokyo marathon and pre runs to Yoyogi Park was easy. Great recommendation on the yakitori by the house owner! None

• Susan (9/5): It was great to be in a central area in Tokyo and we loved staying at Pencil House. - Easy to pick up keys. Great location in Shinjuku There is a 7/11 almost at the door. We didn't realise that the adult and children bedrooms would be on different floors. It was difficult to manage the rubbish and location of pickup.

• Beatrice (7/5): Excellent location - Location was excellent being in the Shinjuku area and easy to get to public transport. Host communicates frequently (eg when Wifi stopped working and needed to meet up). We unfortunately only had 1 key/ no spare keys but didn't bother us too much. It is understandably a small narrow house (hence Pencil house name). Kitchen is a squeeze (only 4 can sit) but well equipped and nice drip coffee. Overall host communication and location were our most important decisions in choosing a place to stay so this house served our purpose. Tight squeeze for a family of 7 (5 kids from 7yo to 21yo) staying 6 nights with large luggages - probably better suited for a smaller family tbh. Winding stairs so not suitable for people with mobility / knee issues (bedroom downstairs but still need to climb stairs for kitchen/living). Would have liked a dryer with the washing machine since it was raining and difficult to dry hanging outside. Beds were really firm and even with an extra blanket layer to soften so combination of stairs+extra firm beds did not do well for our backs/knees.

Kitchen was great, and we walked to different neighborhoods in different directions each day. Comfy beds and a great host. Very attentive.

• Ozlem (9/5): It was excellent. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly. - The location of the house is good. Everything you will need in the kitchen is available. It was also nice to have a little washing machine we could use. The host was very friendly and helpful. We forgot some of our clothes and cables at the house and he kindly met us a week later to hand them back to us. I recommend this place is you need to stay with a group of people.

Short walk to Hatsudai and Shinjuku stations. The owners were very helpful and always reply to my inquiries promptly throughout our stay. We left our home and car keys at the house and the owner saved the day by arranging delivery of the keys to us at Narita airport for a fair fee. Greatly appreciated! We would definitely stay at the Pencil House on our next trip to Tokyo. Highly recommended. N/A

• Annette (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - The apartment was very clean & well appointed with great amenities & the location was fantastic. We were a family of 2 adults & 3 teenagers and there was enough room to be comfortable for the 4 nights. The house is compact but functional with great kitchen facilities, so if you wanted, you could easily prepare meals & eat in, but there are so many restaurants & food options in the area we ate out most of the time. Close to Shinjuku, we walked without any issues and took about 15 minutes. Richard picked us up from the airport and then checked us in, he was very welcoming and gave us a run down of the apartment and how everything worked etc. Overall we had a fantastic stay & can highly recommend Pencil House. Nothing.
• Anthony (10/5): All round great location and nice size. - Great location, heaps of space for Tokyo. Good size. Being a larger person I did find it difficult having to walk from the 3rd floor down to the ground floor in a tight spiral staircase to use the bathroom and toilet. Also when arriving and leaving carrying 3 suitcases that are 20kg each was defiantly an effort. Still happy with the place and would stay again but worth knowing before hand.

Shower was good and great to have a washing machine when travelling with teenagers..All amenities there that we needed for family of 7 Not much not to like a bit more room in the cupboards in the lower double bedroom but when in Tokyo how often can you find a nice modern house with all amenities to cater for 7 people

Kitchen made it easy to have breakfast at home, fast portable wifi, good charging station, air conditioning, comfy beds, washing machine and helpful hosts all ensured a wonderful stay. Everything was great.

The location was great, close to the station and only a short walk to Shinjuku, and we were even met by the hosts at the train station. Ash and Tracey were generous hosts who helpedy us book transport as well. They were easy to communicate with and always very helpful! We would stay here again!

Very close to Hatsudai station and within 10min walk to Shinjuku station/area. 30 seconds to a 7 Eleven! Tracey and Ash were great with communication and Ash cam to meet us at the station upon arrival. Highly recommend the Pencil House.
• Cody (6/5): Great location, clean home but condescending host. - Convenient location and the house was very clean. Had lots of amenities to use. The host was a bit condescending when checking in and a bit cold when messaging prior to check-in. Yet once we were checked in, he was checking in on us a lot to make sure we were enjoying ourselves yet it only seemed to be so because he wanted a good review.
