- Borgund (5/5): BE AWARE OF SIGNIFICANT CHARGES ON TOP OF ACCOMODATION CHARGES - The house was equipped with everything necessary for a good stay. The location of the house is ok, with around 20 minutes drive to nice towns worth a visit as well as to skiing resort (assuming they actually have enough snow to be open) and cross country tracks. Hiking can be done directly from the house. As shared with the landlords prior to the stay, I found the lack of transparency of additional costs misleading at best. When using a portal like Booking.com I expect to be able to compare accommodation options with costs and facilities being presented in a transparent manner.
For 6 guests and three days stay during mild temperatures (no excessive heating required) we would have had to pay €100 of utility costs (IF I had trusted the metering form presented to me upon arrival - I ended up paying €67 for our actual consumption) + €120 for bedclothes on top of the rental cost of €540 - that is 40% more than the price shown at the time of booking decision.
Shortly after the booking, the landlord contacted me and informed (as they experience many, like me, not seeing this when booking the house) me explicitly about electricity, gas and water being charged additionally on top of the accommodation. THE WORST: Upon arrival I noticed he metering values had already been pre-populated. Upon actually checking the meters I realized that the values were totally off. When reporting the feel of being taken advantage of, the answer was "we pre-populate in case our guests forget to register". As the landlord has camera surveillance of the room with the meters, I find this a poor excuse.
Additional charge for bedclothes (€20 per person) was something the landlord informed me about several days after the cancellation for free had expired. As I complained about this, the landlord acknowledged that they had not been able to include this information in the advertisement on booking.com.
Conclusion: House is worth the stay, but the feeling of being taken advantage of takes down the score this accommodation offer deserves.
