Guest Reviews
- Kerrie Evans (8/5): Lovely little spot - Secure parking for our motorcycles
- Jessie (10/5): Absolute gem in Kandos - I had a wonderful stay at Bower’s hideout. It is a very characterful, unique place that is well thought out well looked after. Excellent location, right near the supermarket, with beautiful views of the hills and lovely outdoor areas including a peaceful rotunda in the garden. The thoughtful extras made the stay even better - great selection of tea, coffee, milk provided, and clear instructions on both access and how everything functioned.
Felt very safe as a solo traveler.
It is a very special place with a very friendly (but non intrusive) owner. So glad I chose it over a hotel, and hope to come back some day.
- Norrie (9/5): - Safe, quiet location; everything provided and unique decor and fixtures. We were able to charge our EV and had room to dry wet gear.
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Ros (10/5): Highly recommended - Sweet cabin in the heart of the village with the most thoughtful touches and beautiful view of the mountain. The blue bower bird theming is unique and so personal. Nothing
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Parnas (8/5): A great little place to stay in the middle of Kandos with a beautiful mountain view - Easy to fins, had everything we needed, quite location and a view of the mountain. A real little gem. We wouldn't mind coming back no complaints
- Shaun (10/5): Very cosy and charming place, facilities excellent and a great alternative to staying in Mudgee. - Pretty much everything. Very cosy and charming place, very good value for money, I wish I could carry it around with me when I travel. It's also an excellent alternative (and much cheaper alternative) to staying in Mudgee. Nothing.
- Jake (7/5): Overall a good place to stay. Would stay again if the shower is fixed :) - Overall it had everything you need, it was rather cosy, and close enough drive to local restaurants and other facilities. Bed was also very comfortable. The shower was very sensitive, extremely hard to get it to a comfortable temperature. And the bottom of the shower overflows within 2 or so minutes of use (i know there was a sign saying about how it drains properly) but sadly it doesn't. We couldn't have a proper shower each because after 2 minutes the water was leaking out the sides and going on the floor (we dried it up)
- Stephen (9/5): Bower's Rest - Good location. Everything was the way we needed it. Peaceful and quiet. A good strong AC on some very hot days. No complaints
- Peter (8/5): - We had a followvup issue needing sorting after our initial booking. This process was daunting for someone low on tech skills, and finished up involving around 10 emails. It could have been sirted with one phone call, but there was no accessible phone number.
- Mirjam (8/5): -
- Maree (8/5): Very pleasant stay. Clean, comfortable room & amenities - Self catered, but tea/tea bags, condiments supplied.
Good, easy to find location. Easy walk to IGA & pub

- Igor (9/5): Great find in Kandos - Very homely with everything one could need for a few nights. Lovely rotunda in the garden. Host was engaging and responsive. Supermarket almost next door. Only minor quibbles. Bed and sofa were a bit soft. Handwash sink is extremely narrow.
- Mark (7/5): -
- Russell (9/5): Great value for money, would like to stay again if in area. - Bower's Hideout provides excellent value for money, presented well and as per the owner's descriptions, and was the perfect venue in a quiet township for a single traveller on a cold wintry Sunday night. A tip for others - the Italian eatery located in the delicenced Railway Hotel was amazing! The shower drains very slowly but the owner warns of it, that's all really. Otherwise, everything needed is provided and all works well.

- Jon (9/5): great compact hideaway for 2 people for short breaks. - Great location to get into Dunns swamp / Wolembi NT. Not much in Kandos - Rylestone is a bit nicer, but this was convinient. Instructions for collecting key a bit confusing. otherwise all good.
- Marek (9/5): Superb -
- Belinda (10/5): Very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Definitely recommend. - The property is in a quiet location but near everything. Self contained kitchenette, off Street safe parking. - Gayle (9/5): Comfortable clean little hideout where you can relax and cook meals if you choose to - Great little hideout with cooking facilities, very friendly and welcoming host, nice and clean, warm inside on a cold night without needing heater, lucky to have discovered Bowers Hideout in a tiny town with very limited accommodation options, looking forward to returning in a few months Nothing
- Darryl (7/5): Good - A lot of the booking details was stored in emails accessible from our phone. The problem was, when we turned up we had no network access (Vodaphone), so we couldn't access our emails.
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional - Host has thought about everything. We even had a great size milk bottle left in the fridge for us. Ground Coffee plus Instant Coffee. A good tea selection. Clean. Great heating/ cooling. Comfy bed. Cooking facilities...

- Roland (9/5): Ok for overnight or a few days to explore the area - Convenient and quiet location, All ok
- Greg (5/5): Passable -
- John (2/5): Would not go back - Close to town shops and a meal at the pub and RSL were okay. The shower was filthy with black mould build up. There was dust over every surface. Sheets were dark green, pillow slips navy blue but we always carry our own pillows any way. Towels navy blue never a good sign on cleanliness We asked a person coming out of the shop next door if they could help as the owners phone number was not answering. She did not know but rang a friend in another shop who came and put the access code in for us, and he said the room is down the back, which was not locked and key was on the table.
- Maureen (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (8/5): Fabulous comfortable accommodation in a quiet location with a beautiful outlook. - Loved the garden setting and out door table with a view to the mountain. The quirky construction was great and there was a lot of thought to the choice of decor.. Nothing…

- Derek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (8/5): Was relaxing. Had a good sleep. - No breakfast. Peaceful location. Cars off road adjacent to home. Could walk to hotel for dinner. Access through street front mechanical gate was confusing. I thought pin supplied by booking.com was relevant but didn’t apply. We were driving all day and perhaps hadn’t read the online instructions. Entering of payment information was nearly abandoned as booking.com was slow in processing and payment details should have been available from previous recent booking.
- Sharon (9/5): Good thing my favourite colour is blue 🥰 A beaut spot in Kandos. - Great location, good communication with the manager, private and self contained. I would be clutching at straws to find anything I didn’t like
- Estella (8/5): Shawn is an excellent and extremely helpful guy. We will not forget his kindness and hospitality - Loved the gardens, the privacy and felt secure. Nothing
- Katroosya (9/5): Fantastic as always - The location and the privacy
- Schmeidl (8/5): Very good - Good location to explore the region. Well appointed small kitchen with everything needed for short stay. Comfy bed, great TV. Couch too soft for our likening, but easy enough to sit on the bed to watch TV.
- Cherith (9/5): Lovely quiet town to relax, and the accommodation has everything we needed to relax. - The accommodation is spotless and we were able to totally relax. We were also thrilled to see bower birds and fairy wrens nearby. Shawn was fantastic! He was very helpful, but also respectful of our privacy. He also supplied us with butter cookies, which we unfortunately pigged out on :p
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Great price. Quite comfortable. Right in town.

- Janine (8/5): Loved the style and theme of the accommodation very cute - The room was very cute loved the theme Swing Seat had cobwebs maybe making the grounds a bit tidier
- Patricia (10/5): Unique & homely guest studio. - A unique stopover experience for us in the quaint rural town of Kandos. Great use of space in this studio, which is very comfortable for a short stay. Loved the blue decor, comfy bed, and good coffee grounds with plunger (so much nicer than the coffee sachets at a highway motel!) Access via the large metal driveway gate was slightly awkward but absolutely fine when you follow the host's instructions!

- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Excellent value, super clean, friendly host and a walk to all ammenities. - Excellent value and a stroll to all local amenities. Well appointed kitchen and a garden full of spectacular bird life. The sofa was a little small, but other than that the facilities were very good.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - A really special place with every bit of space well used. Everything you could want is provided including many condiments and extras in the kitchen. So many nic nacs to look at as well.
- Mary (10/5): A home away from home, and blue is the colour. - Quirky! Comfortable! Even with very cold weather outside, the accommodation heated up efficiently and quickly.
- Celia (9/5): Great place to stay for exploring the Capertee Valley - Great little property. Received detailed instructions/information from the host about access, use of amenities, local restaurants, etc. We especially appreciated the stocked kitchen (e.g., basics for cooking, real coffee). Nice garden area with a lot of bird activity around, even in the winter - including satin bowerbirds, the namesake! Would definitely recommend.

- Neil2g (9/5): Superb - We liked the comfortable bed. The heating warmed the room quickly and adequately. We liked the unusual decoration in the room. We had difficulty in actually finding the place. There was no sign, just a small street number. Accessing the property was a bit complicated, but OK once you did it the first time. At least you knew your car was securely parked.
