- Jeff (8/5): - Beautiful location
Comfortable bed/furniture Cooking equipment not usable
- Trudi (8/5): - Beds were very comfortable. Everything we needed for our stay. There was a smell in the 3rd bedroom. Possibly coming from the septic tank. Very overwhelming at times.
- Mary (8/5): I would love to return here with family or a group of friends. A house swap would be ideal! - The location in 100/10! The feel of the holiday house is so family fun oriented. What a lovely place for a family to hang out! The kitchen facilities were fully supportive of a large group. Excellent facilities for cooking! The pelicans or penguins who growled and squealing at us through the night!! Actually a novelty!
- Pia (8/5): Pleasant accommodation in a great spot - Easy communication and easy access. The position is great with beautiful sea views. Comfortable beds. There were a few things missing like coffee capsules, tea spoons, bbq tongues, cooking oil

- Raed (1/5): Dirty pillows, filthy lounge. Extremely rude staff. I don’t recommend at all - Nothing I’ve just read the add for Salty Dog holiday house on google that this house could accommodate eight people. Consequently I booked it cause I have Me ,my wife and four kids didn’t notice that I have to mention how many people we have in the family. Honest mistake happened that only two people were mentioned .First day we arrived we found That the house has only one small air-conditioner in the main lounge room where the temperature was above 35°C. The air conditioning was not working.. we contacted The That property manager. The owner came over and fixed it. At that point I didn’t notice or realise that there was anything wrong .The owner of the House didn’t even mention Or talk about the extra people we had. Next day early in the morning when we were still In bed around 8.00 am that property manager Christine Started to knock on our door waking up Everyone .The kids ran into me Telling me that there’s someone on the door. That was her ; the property manager without saying single nice word started to say That we are committing a fraud by accommodating extra people And asking us to pay extra or she will call the the police. I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about . I just asked her to stay calm and not to mention Police or stuff like that In front of kids. She said :would you pay the extra right now or do you want me to call the owner who is a bigger guy? Who can fix you up. I was totally surprised not by being asked to pay that gap, but by the way She conducted us not taking into account that family and the kids and honest mistakes could happen. I did pay her that extra $360. I didn’t have any problem paying that extra money . My only problem was the level of rudeness and bad attitude she conducted me In front of my kids. For the three days we stayed there. The kids didn’t stop crying every time we were coming back to the house telling us That they’re too scared of that lady and that big man she was threatening us with.
- Madeleine (8/5): Beautiful, oceanside house on a quiet street. 15 mins from Kingscote. - Beautiful, unobstructed view of the ocean. House is at the end of a quiet street, so barely any foot or car traffic. Clean, well-stocked kitchen. Ample towels and bedding. 15 minute drive from Kingscote. Uncomfortable beds. Very dirty bathroom drain. Not enough toilet paper.
- Rob (9/5): - Amazing location with spectacular view.
- Kylie (8/5): Ocean views and fairy pemguins - Fantastic view of Emu Bay from lounge and main bedroom.
Water beautiful and clear - no sign pf the algal bloom.
We saw dolphins from the hoise, stingray and fairy penguins at the jetty.
Sound of the penguins at night.
Diirectly across the road from bay - virtually no traffic.
Good bathroom and laundry.
Well equipped kotchen.
Beach cafe/bar looked gtrear. Outdoor seating could be improved.

- heyooj (10/5): Perfect stay, great home away from home, perfect location, loved the wildlife noises at night. - Clean and comfortable home feel. We loved the location. The cooking facilities were great. Loved the selection of herbs n spices In the cupboard. Having Netflix was a great bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing comes to mind
- Carolyn (10/5): - The apartment was beautiful and the location was excellent .
- Cornelius (8/5): -
- Rachel (6/5): Loves staying here, but wouldn't stay there again because of the noisy penguins at night. - Great location. Good sized comfortable house. Beautiful beach view. The mattress in the main bedroom was quite un-comfortable. The penguins where extremely noisy the first night, making it near impossible to sleep.
The house needs a good deep clean. Couch and spare blankets where dirty, along with the floor and, windows seals, bathroom etc. Clearly it only gets very light clean between guests.
- Sarah (9/5): Relaxing vibes with great views of Emu Bay - The location to the beach and jetty The windows needed cleaning
- Michela (10/5): Fantastic peaceful relaxing week - Absolutely beautiful location and home. We got to see dolphins swimming and a young kangaroo came around each evening. The only little complaint would be the condition of the pillows and the comfort of the couch.
- Miriam (9/5): Superb -
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Morag (7/5): Lovely location house needs some attention and cleaning and then would be perfect. - Location perfect and place spacious and lovely quirky furnishings Cleanliness was very grubby needs a good clean. Furnishings and outside of house in need of attention. Charged us $110 for cleaning and it wasn’t had to wash every dish we wished to use and dust and cobwebs everywhere.
- Emma (9/5): Amazing views and locations. Plenty of space for us to relax and enjoy ourselves. - Location was great and the views were amazing. Shower floor was a bit dirty.
- Hilary (8/5): Great location & excellent views. - The location, view & unexpected wildlife were excellent.
The bathroom & kitchen were clean The couch could do with a good clean.
Poor pillows.
BBQ needs a good clean
Could do with a good around clean, not spot clean. Cup draw liners need cleaning or replacing.
- Weary (7/5): Good - the view, the quietness. The kitchen was well appointed but the kitchenware and the kitchen drawers were not clean. We had to clean the few items we needed for our short stay, before we could use them. We left what we used clean. We understand this can be a result of previous guests, but perhaps it should be checked by management more regularly.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (9/5): Great stay. Would highly recommend. - Excellent location on the Bay where the penguins come in. We saw penguins and other wildlife. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Rachel (9/5): Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your home with us - Location and comfort Oven is broken - we couldn't cook (stovetop worked well)
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (10/5): We loved our stay, comfortable, clean and epic views. - Gorgeous view, fantastic spot, renovations are lovely and has everything you need.
- Mark (10/5): This place was almost the best thing about our visit to KI - Such a homely feel away from home. Very well appointed. The kids absolutely loved it. Close enough to all the amenities of Kingscote with a real coastal feel. Amazing position, great for exploring with the kids, fishing etc. listening to the penguins come in to nest every night was a huge bonus. Nothing to complain about.
- Shauna (8/5): Clean, cozy home away from home - Great location Bathroom could be modernised
- Ruby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (7/5): Good -
- Dang (8/5): Great view and location - Location and view was spectacular The penguins though really cool were quite noisy in the early hours of the morning.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Katrine (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage is in a perfect location, with panoramic seaviews. We could hear the little penguins going up the beach right outside the house each night. So serene and beautiful! Kitchen very well set up for real cooking. The weather was cold, but we were kept warm with heater in the living area and warm doonas and blankets on each of the beds.
- Kara (8/5): Look forward to returning - Was as we expected. Salty dog is in a great spot if you are looking for accommodation close to the beach, jetty. Lovely surprise was the penguins in the garden outside bedroom windows. Locals we met were very friendly. Be wary a lot of outlets such as restaurants and attractions were closed despite advertising open every day. Might be due to time of year. We found our winter stay was great and a lovely change from Nth Qld. Bbq was not cleaned by previous occupants but also not used by us during our stay.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Great location, would happily stay there again. - The location was amazing, walked to the jetty and beach, was comfortable for all family sizes, modern and clean appliances, warm and welcoming. Back yard for kids to play and beautiful sunrise every morning. Some dust accumulated under beds and furniture found when kids toys rolled under there. Fridge motor was rather loud and next to one of the bedroom doors.
- Anne (6/5): Pleasant - Setting is lovely.
Would have liked a fireplace outside and outside area that has a view.
Would have liked a clean oven. Dirty oven, no outside area to sit with view and fire.
- Alison (8/5): We had a lovely stay and enjoyed it very much. We definitely plan on coming back. -
- Tessa (10/5): Exceptional - The view
- Simpson (7/5): Lovely views but loud location - Great views, good amenities and provisions left for guests. Very informative and helpful property management. The noise!!! Penguins nest right outside the main bedrooms and make loud noises for hours at night and early morning.
Floors needed better cleaning under chairs, lounges etc which were very dusty and dirty.
- Gordon (5/5): Passable - Big space Every night that we stayed there, we were invaded by millipeds which crawled thru under the door and thru cracks in the wood frame of the door. By the morning, there would millipeds on the floor , in the bathroom and sometimes in our bedroom and in the Kitchen. Maybe it's a seasonal thing, or after the rains came as was suggested but I dun know. To us, it was a cleanliness fight against Mother nature.
- Greg (10/5): We loved it. - We loved the location and would not hesitate to recommend The Salty Dog to anyone staying on Kangaroo Island. We fell in love with Emu Bay and Kangaroo Island as a whole. With the ocean at your door step and visible from most windows but especially the large living room windows. Emu Bay is breathtakingly beautiful. The "SALTY DOG" has the BEST location on the bay. 180degree View of the Ocean. The house is well appointed with everything you could need including a Webber BBQ. We felt really at home. Emu Bay is a great central location. If you want to stay in away from the tourist strip with the most incredible views and wild life at your door, you need to stay at the Salty Dog.
- Bryce (10/5): This place has an amazing view. You can relax on the sofa and watch the water all day. The place has a cosy atmosphere, - The view is the highlight of this place, right in front of the beach. You can lay on the sofa and stare out at the water. The place has everything you want, with a nice bathroom. Nothing
- Richard (10/5): Peaceful safe and a great house. - No breakfast supplied. The location was excellent the wildlife around the house was great seeing every night. The only problem was, it was said there was ironing facilities we could find the iron but not the ironing board
- Trent (10/5): Great location and property -
- Jeanie (8/5): Very good -
- Marie (10/5): Relaxing - Amazing views and location. Emu Bay beach is lovely. Great for children. It is no problem but nice if you tell travelers in advance that you rely entirely on rainwater. That way one can better prepare for the stay in order to preserve water.
- Sophie (8/5): Very good -
- Stenhouse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (8/5): Very good -
- Llewellyn (10/5): Emu bay is very beautiful and the house has amazing views of the bay. The house was well equipped. -
- Kyla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brett (9/5): Great beach house and beach - Great view over Emu Bay. Easy walk to a wonderful beach. Comfortable beds, tastefully furnished with a nice beach shack vibe. Good communication by host. Spacious and clean. Kitchen was modern and had a good range of the basic supplies and items needed available. Laundry didn't have any washing power or liquid that we could find. Not the property's fault but the flies could be pretty bad walking to or from the beach! WiFi was a little tricky to find to turn on as the router was off when we arrived.
- Georgia (8/5): Pretty cottage with a good view - The location was fine. It was my first time there so did not know how far it was from amenities. The kitchen living room and bathroom were excellent. The views from the house were lovely and we even saw a koala in the tree in the street behind. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. While there was plenty of drawers for storage, there wasn't any hanging space for clothes or an iron and ironing board. The first night there were very cold and no electric blanket on the beds, although the owner had left an extra blanket. Small things but I imagine it would be very cold there in winter.
- Julie (9/5): Superb - The location and superb view!!
- Lisa (10/5): Fantastic home, great views, great communication, fantastic wildlife. - Comfortable, the views. Nothing, Unfortunately it was really windy and we love fishing. So we found plenty of other things to do.
- Nathan (8/5): Pretty gd stay - Location Tv too small. No drier or iron.
- Hayley (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the location, bedding, lawn area, and view. The kitchen was well equipped. Great activities for the kids. All wildlife can be spotted from the front windows. The penguins are a little loud some nights, but I enjoyed it. Would have loved a broom for the sand. A baby bath would be helpful for infants.
- Manish (9/5): Superb - Location and home
- Garry (10/5): Relaxing, quiet, peaceful, clean and magnificent views. - Everything was fantastic. The decor, the comfy beds, the best place to watch and listen to the sea. We were very impressed on the kitchen facilities. We will be back. It was the most peaceful place to relax. Also there was a lot thought into the Salty Dog. Like the wash basket for dirty clothes. Thankyou to the owner and the cleaner. Everything was very clean. There is no didn’t.
- Pip (10/5): Perfect location, very relaxing and wildlife amazing - Location, appeal Nothing - loved it
- Holly (8/5): The view and location more than made up for any short falls this place had - Location was GORGEOUS. The sunrise was magical, the birds on the rocks were amazing. The views were stunning Could’ve done with more than 2 towels and 2 rolls of toilet paper for 4 days

- Paris (7/5): Nice remote stay in Kangaroo island - beautiful views - Location was incredible and the place was themed very nicely. the beds were incredibly comfortable. The place could have been cleaner. We did not use the kitchen items, however looking into the drawers they were not that clean. Also the house has a beautiful view, but the windows were very dirty.
- Ros (9/5): Superb -
- Jeanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (8/5): Very good -
- Melinda (6/5): beautiful island and location. house could be fabulous with a little love and effort. - fabulous location, huge windows overlooking the water. kitchen is well stocked. bed uncomfortable and sheets and towels were old and dingy. sofa dirty, stained, saggy and uncomfortable. wished they had chairs for the front yard so could sit outside and enjoy the view.
- Carolyn (9/5): Best spot on the Island in a cosy home - The view and location were excellent. There was ample plates pots etc.The house had o homey seaside feel so it felt right The lounge was not set up well to watch tv and the outdoor bench did not feel sturdy. So We used our camp chairs instead
- Paula (9/5): Superb -
- Tamara (9/5): Superb - Pros - Beautiful location - lovely property. View was amazing, dolphins, koalas and an echidna all seen from the property.
Cons - like other reviews the windows to look out to that great view were quite dirty and the Weber Q needed a good scrub before use.
Otherwise great would stay again
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - clean and spacious property with all amenities you could need. great communication with Christine. will stay again on my next trip to KI noting not to like
- Natasha (7/5): Stunning views and heaps of wildlife. - The house overlooks a beautiful view and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need. Dolphins frequently visit Emu Beach. The inside of the kitchen cupboards was dirty, they had a couple of dead insects in them and crumbs throughout them. The place does not have an iron or ironing board.
- John (7/5): great views and location - the view was excellent, location good, kitchen and beds comfortable toilet in with bathroom, BBQ jets half blocked, block out blinds for lounge area, gets very hot with insulation in roof, an iron would be handy, needs more functional seating to watch TV
- Giulia (9/5): Amazing view - The house view is amazing. Rooms are big and there were toys for the kids. The kitchen was well equiped Outside table and chairs were quite old and rusty so difficult to be used. Bbq was dirty but not a big problem as we did not use it
- Marie (7/5): most enjoyable stay at the comfy and charming seafront cottage - lovely seaside ambience with loads of bedding and dining Area. loads of privacy and quiet seafront location near Jerry end of the beach. loads of cutlery and crockery- tasteful decor! great wifi! be aware only one bathroom so limitation there. back verandah should be modified to have another toilet at least.
TV and lounge positioning need improvement. air conditioner weak for SA summer heat. thankfully most days were mild for our stay.
invest in better smart TV capable of allowing users to log into their streaming service eg Netflix, Prime, Stan etc
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- G (10/5): Great place to stay we will be back. - The place had an amazing view and was beautiful and clean. Nice and close to the beach it was perfect for us.
- Rita (10/5): We had a great day - We had a great time, very comfortable wished we could have stayed longer. Another toilet would be ok
- Samuel (5/5): this house is perfect for a small family or a small group of friends just needs to be maintained a little better. cleanl - great location, nice little shack 5 minute walk from the beach.
amazing little area of grass at the front.
spotted multiple koalas in nearby trees. Weber Q was filthy and required a deep clean before use.
pots and pans were old and need replacing.
heaps of sand under rug (dirty)
dirty toilet.
mugs and plates dirty.
no iron or ironing board.
window didn’t seal properly allowing millions of bugs throughout the house.
killed 6 spiders inside throughout our stay, house needs to be sprayed for insects.
- Keith (9/5): Superb - Ocean views ànd koalas at the front door. Great location. Bathroom tap was very stiff and painfull to operate and no hangers for clothes anywhere.
- Jay (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome location in a nice peaceful seaside town. Home contained everything we neededfor our stay
- Ray (10/5): Beautiful beach stay. - Everything. Location, facilities, loved it all. Nothing not to like. A coffee pod machine would be great.
- Michaela (9/5): delightful property would stay again - light and airy and right next to the beach nothing really
- Akil (8/5): Very good -
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diana (8/5): Quant beach house with verything we needed for a comfortable stay overlooking the idyllic Emu Bay - Enjoy a great stay at this quant beach house. The property was as pictured and ideally located overlooking Emu Bay. The house had everything - including all necessary cooking items - comfortable beds and really clean which all made for a very comfortable stay. The host provided loads of useful information of sites/attractions/conveniencies etc available on Kangaroo Island which was appreciated. Nothing comes to mind.
